About this illustration

The shared meal, public reading, elders’ support, and distant runner combine the chapter’s instruction and athletic comparison. The scroll carries no rendered words, and the departing figures do not literalize seducing spirits.

Scripture basis: 1 Timothy 4:1–16
  1. 1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
  2. 2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
  3. 3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
  4. 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
  5. 5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
  6. 6If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
  7. 7But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
  8. 8For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
  9. 9This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
  10. 10For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
  11. 11These things command and teach.
  12. 12Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
  13. 13Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
  14. 14Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
  15. 15Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
  16. 16Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

The Garden and the Deceiver

Pastor Dean Odle uses the Garden of Eden to warn that the deceiver’s oldest lie still promises that sin carries no final consequence. Moving through Genesis 3, Titus 2, Hebrews 10, Jude, and other passages, he argues that salvation is God’s unearned gift while believers remain responsible to obey Christ, reject habitual sin, and continue in sound doctrine. He contrasts the Spirit’s transforming grace with teachings that excuse lawlessness, addresses contemporary religious deception and disputed end-times claims, and urges listeners to stay in Scripture, prayer, humility, and fellowship with Jesus. The message closes with a call to step away from the tree of sin, repent when one falls, and keep choosing Christ to the end.

The Great Whore

Pastor Dean Odle presents a Protestant and futurist reading of Revelation 17–18, identifying Mystery Babylon with the Roman Catholic system centered in Rome. He examines doctrine, Marian devotion, papal authority, transubstantiation, ecumenism, and contemplative practices, then calls believers to test every teaching by Scripture and look to Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and humanity.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

In The Second Coming of Jesus Christ, Pastor Dean Odle warns against teachings that claim Christ already returned, the millennial reign has already occurred, and believers now live in Satan's 'little season.' He begins with the apostolic command to abide in the doctrine of Christ and to reject deceivers, then reads Matthew 24 as a chronological description of a future, unmistakable, worldwide return. Odle emphasizes that the sun and moon will be darkened, the stars will fall, heaven will be rolled back, the mountains and islands will be removed, every tribe will see Christ, and the elect will be gathered after the tribulation.

Leave the Tree Alone

A forceful Christian hip-hop warning rooted in Eden’s forbidden tree: reject the serpent’s lie that sin is safe, receive salvation as God’s gift, and walk in repentance, obedience, and the Spirit rather than turning grace into permission to rebel.
