CHAPTER VISUAL

2 Corinthians 4 — The light of Christ’s gospel shines through fragile servants who are afflicted but not destroyed and renewed toward eternal glory.

About this illustration

The luminous clay vessel, resilient workers, darkened street, and far horizon combine Paul’s metaphors of weakness, resurrection life, and unseen glory. Injuries are non-graphic, and God is not portrayed bodily.

Scripture basis: 2 Corinthians 4:1–18
  1. 1Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
  2. 2But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
  3. 3But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
  4. 4In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
  5. 5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
  6. 6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
  7. 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
  8. 8We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
  9. 9Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
  10. 10Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
  11. 11For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
  12. 12So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
  13. 13We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
  14. 14Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
  15. 15For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
  16. 16For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
  17. 17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
  18. 18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Pastor Dean Odle’s “Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ” is a practical call for every believer to speak the gospel clearly and courageously. From Mark 16 and 2 Corinthians 4, he argues that Christians are not commissioned merely to behave well in public or offer vague encouragement. They must proclaim Jesus Christ: who He is, His fulfillment of Scripture, His death for sins, His burial and resurrection, and the necessity of repentance, faith, and surrender to His lordship.

The Anointing of the Holy Spirit (2026)

In The Anointing of the Holy Spirit (2026), Pastor Dean Odle calls believers to seek more than routine church activity: the presence, power, guidance, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Beginning with Jesus in Luke 4, Odle argues that Christ ministered as the anointed Son and model for believers, and that the Spirit’s power exposes darkness, breaks bondage, gives authority for witness, and may provoke resistance as well as revival.

Keys of the Kingdom

In “Keys of the Kingdom,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about demons and deliverance, the condition of the church, Satanic opposition. Drawing especially from Matthew 16, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 12, Matthew 18, the teaching emphasizes that demonic influence must be answered through Christ’s authority and the freedom He provides. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that the church is called to recover biblical faithfulness instead of accommodating compromise.

Come Honestly

A Scripture-rich gospel appeal to come to Jesus without pretense: confessing sin, trusting His crucifixion and resurrection, receiving salvation by grace through faith, and following Him in repentance and new life.
