The Anointing of the Holy Spirit (2026)
About this sermon
In The Anointing of the Holy Spirit (2026), Pastor Dean Odle calls believers to seek more than routine church activity: the presence, power, guidance, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Beginning with Jesus in Luke 4, Odle argues that Christ ministered as the anointed Son and model for believers, and that the Spirit’s power exposes darkness, breaks bondage, gives authority for witness, and may provoke resistance as well as revival.

The service opens in worship and a sustained prayer for more of Christ, asking that the Holy Spirit bring power, revelation, healing, and freedom from routine religion.
Odle introduces Luke 4 and presents Jesus as the anointed model: fully divine, yet ministering in humble dependence upon the Spirit as he preached, healed, and delivered.
The Nazareth and Capernaum accounts are used to argue that genuine anointing makes truth spiritually forceful, exposes hidden opposition, and may produce either repentance or hostility.
The sermon warns against seeking manifestations for reputation. Odle says gifts should serve people, reveal God’s will, and accompany obedience even when the Spirit leads into difficult places.
Odle recounts prayer surrounding a public debate, then turns to Samuel anointing David. He interprets the episode as a fresh empowerment for a God-given office and task.
Samson illustrates compromised consecration and restoration through repentance; Saul illustrates disobedience, presumption, and turning toward forbidden spiritual counsel after rejecting God’s voice.
Romans 1:11, Timothy’s formation, and Elijah with Elisha support Odle’s teaching that believers should remain close to mature, faithful ministers and seek gifts that establish others.
Personal memories of Brownsville and other revival meetings frame an appeal not to despise genuine moves of God because human participants are imperfect or opposition is strong.
The sermon closes with Mark 16 themes and prayer for baptism in the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, holiness, obedience, and an outpouring that reaches homes, workplaces, and the wider world.

[music] Nothing yours, nothing [singing] at all. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] This is not planned. [music] So, we're just going to do this song. [music] You know, we can do nothing without Jesus. [music] We can do nothing without him. [music] Well, we can do stuff, but [music] without him. And [music] I'm first to be able to tell you that life is not life without Jesus. [music] The spirit [music] of my Jesus is [music] upon [singing] me. For [music and singing] he has anointed me to bring good tidings to the lost. to bind [music] the brokenhearted [singing] and to proclaim help [music] to the captives in the opening of the prisons, to those [music and singing] who are bound.

[music] It's the anointing [singing] that makes [singing and music] the difference. Once [music and singing] you know it, [music] you will never be [singing] the same. Oh, you can't live without [music] it once [music] it's rested on you. And he will [music] teach [singing] you how to walk in Jesus name. I want you to listen to the words [music] of this next verse. This next verse, I believe the Lord is wanting [music] the church to go there. Uh 1 Corinthians [music] 14 talks about going deeper with the Lord in the gifts of the spirit. [music] So as I sing this [music] verse, I just want you to agree with me in the spirit that the Lord Jesus will take each and every one of you [music] deeper in Jesus name. [music] You will cast out demons [music] in Jesus [singing] name. [music] You will speak [music] with new tongues. Oh, [music and singing] you lay your hands upon the [music] sick and they'll recover. And all these things [music and singing] you shall do in Jesus [music] name. [singing] is the anointing [singing] [music] that makes the difference. [music] Once [singing] you know it, [music] you will never [singing] ever be the same. Oh, and you can't live without [music] it

walked away [music] from my kids and my wife and left the house and back [music] in 2010 and just in a mess full of demons, sex demons. But praise God, he convicted my sin and I yielded to his spirit and I said, "Lord [music] Jesus, I'm so sorry." And he can do that for you. If he can clean up my mess and forgive my sin. If he can forgive me alone, he can forgive you. He's so good. Jesus [music and singing] is so good and I'm a mess right now, [music] but I love him. I [music] love Jesus, y'all. I tell you in his presence is the fullness of joy. In his love [music and singing] there is no better love. I was telling a [music] friend just yesterday, there is no way I could explain the love of the Lord other than John 3:16. [music] And we make it so nonchalant. We say, "For God so loved the [music] world," and we just quote that, but we don't think about it. He [music] just loved the world. Who's the What's the world? That's us. [music] We're the world. We're the world he loves. We need to get that. [music] We need to get that. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] [music] Oh hey. Oh.
