walked away [music] from my kids and my wife and left the house and back [music] in 2010 and just in a mess full of demons, sex demons. But praise God, he convicted my sin and I yielded to his spirit and I said, "Lord [music] Jesus, I'm so sorry." And he can do that for you. If he can clean up my mess and forgive my sin. If he can forgive me alone, he can forgive you. He's so good. Jesus [music and singing] is so good and I'm a mess right now, [music] but I love him. I [music] love Jesus, y'all. I tell you in his presence is the fullness of joy. In his love [music and singing] there is no better love. I was telling a [music] friend just yesterday, there is no way I could explain the love of the Lord other than John 3:16. [music] And we make it so nonchalant. We say, "For God so loved the [music] world," and we just quote that, but we don't think about it. He [music] just loved the world. Who's the What's the world? That's us. [music] We're the world. We need more of your presence, more of your anointing, more of your power flowing through our lives because it's the anointing that breaks [music] the yoke. Yes, Lord. Lord, we thank you. [music] We thank you for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. And we pray, God, for more. We know, God, [music] we're empty. We're nothing without you. We need your [music] anointing. We need your presence. We need your glory. Lord, that anointing makes the whole difference in everything in our witnessing, preaching, teaching, praying, living. Oh Lord, we seek to be filled and then filled and then filled and then filled again by your Holy Spirit, Lord. Lord, we pray [music] for your touch from heaven.
Lord, [music] that's what we need, Lord, as Christians because that's where the revelation, that's where the understanding, that's where we learn to be led by by you and not by our own minds. So Lord, we pray for this. We pray today as a church for your anointing. And it's in Jesus name we pray. Everybody said, "Amen today." All right. Amen. Very good, brother. Praise God. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Well, we had our staff worship time, prayer meeting this week and um Johnny was doing that song, the anointing. I don't know who originally did it. I don't know if it was just Jeff or Jeff took it from somebody else or we don't really know where it came from. But but Jeff Finholtz, if you don't know who he was, he passed away a few years ago, but um he was the lead singer of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple and White Snake and uh and played Jesus Christ Superstar, that blasphemous thing on Broadway. He was just into the whole rock and roll and drugs and Satanism scene for a long time. And then God got a hold of him and he gave his life to Jesus and uh some Italian exmafia painters laid hands on that boy and got him set free from the demons. Uh, I mean, it was something else. But he, you know, God really used him for the season that, you know, throughout the the 90s and early 2000s, and he he's the one that made that song real popular, the the anointing. Um, so when Johnny was singing that on our Thursday night uh leadership staff meeting, the anointing just came all over me. And Johnny, the Lord gave me a word for you, too. I know the Lord gave Daniellea a word for you and she shared that with you. But where did Johnny go? But it's all right. But he just told me to tell you, it was on me the other night, but I just didn't get to it. That uh truly the anointing is on you for worship. And it's it's that minstal anointing and that when you help bring the anointing upon others. So you just know, you be encouraged. The devil's a liar. you and and jewels are anointed. Amen. Amen. And I'm not saying that to flatter anybody or puff anybody up. Um but you know what? We're supposed to recognize and discern whether the anointing is present or absent. Um, everybody, I want you to
turn with me first, and I've just called this today, the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Um, I'm sure I have several sermons. Kelsey can probably tell me I have several with the same name on it. So, this might be the anointing of the Holy Spirit 2026. Um, because there's so many times I have talked about this, but I want everybody to go with me first to Luke chapter 4. And um this should be a familiar passage of scripture or story here of Jesus, but I want to bring out some points to you because it this may turn into its own series. I don't know because uh I don't know that there's any way you you talk about the anointing of the Holy Spirit and what that means and how to obtain him and his presence in fresh ways. But I want to just look at what happened to Jesus here. Now, well, actually, let's go to Luke 4. We're going to start at verse one. Now this is after um this is after Jesus went to John the Baptist uh to be baptized in water and then he was also baptized in the holy spirit. All right. And the father spoke over him from heaven. And so Jesus then it says Jesus being what? full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan and was led by the spirit into the wilderness. Very important too to understand when the Holy Spirit comes upon you when you are anointed, you are no longer in charge of anything. You understand? And the Lord will at times lead you into the wilderness to be tempted. The word means tested of the devil. Now think about that. That's where Jesus started the whole ministry. John the Baptist then the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness to be tested, tempted by the devil. 40 days he fasted and prayed and the angels had to come and minister to him and give him strength to endure that. But Jesus comes out of that and he resists all the temptations of the devil. Of course, Jesus never sinned. And it says here, verse 14, we're going to drop down there. And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit. I love this. He was full of the Holy Ghost and full of the power of the Holy Spirit into Galilee. And there went out of fame through all the region roundabout. and he taught in their synagogues, being
glorified of all. Now, I'm going to jump over in a minute to Mark chapter 1, but one of the first things he did is he began teaching the synagogues. The first thing we see happen is that the demons in people who were in the synagogue. So, let's just say demonpossessed churchgoers recognized the demons in them recognized Jesus. You are the holy one of God. you are. And basically they're saying you are the anointed one. We know who you are. We know what you're here to do. And what would Jesus say? Hold your peace. Basically shut up talking and come out of right. And this had never happened before. You have to understand that in all the synagogue meetings for hundreds of years and this had never happened, right? demons talking out through people recognizing not just the anointed one but the anointing upon the anointed one. Right? Because remember this about Jesus. Yes, Jesus was and is God manifested in the flesh. But when he came here, he humbled himself and became a man. Meaning that he operated as a man anointed by God. Okay? Because we were to follow his example. So he came here to do it as a man. But of course being God also that's why he was able to not sin, right? And he made the way. Let's just let's just understand this immediately. He made the way for us to even have the possibility of being these flawed vessels that we are. Even after we're born again, washed and cleansed by the blood, we are still very flawed vessels. But the fact that he would give us his holy spirit. Think about that. The same spirit that was in Jesus, the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us. This to me is one of the the greatest things we should focus on as Christians. Greater is he that's in me than he that is in the world. I can't do anything. Anything that per se I have accomplished as a Christian or in the kingdom of God has not been because of my abilities or my fleshly strength or my mental capacity. It's all been because of the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit. Period. And this is something that I think we've just got we've we've got to cry out to God. This should be one of the main focus points of our prayer life is God anoint me with fresh oil. Fill me. Empower me. I want you to work through me.
And so Jesus comes out of that and then he goes to his hometown. Oh Lord, to Nazareth and we know what he said about Nazareth. He said, "No prophet is without honor except in his own what? Own hometown." And he goes to his hometown. But let's read this verse 16. It says, "And he came to Nazareth where he been had been brought up and as his custom was," meaning he had done this probably since the time he was 12, go into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read the scriptures, to do the daily or the weekly Torah reading. Right? And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those that are bruised or them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And then he began to say unto them, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." And all bear him witness and wondered at the gracious words which mouth. And they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?" And he said unto them, you will surely say unto me this proverb, physician heal thyself, and whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. And then Jesus said, verily I say unto you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. And then he says this, but I tell you of a truth. Many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and when great famine was throughout all the land. But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save unto Serapa, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel, and at the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed, saving non the Syrian. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath. Now, all he did was quote the scripture. And they rose up to thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill, whereupon the city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way. And um and then I'm going to keep reading. And it came and he came down to Capernaum and to the city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days. And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was with power, authority. And in the synagogue there was a man which had a spirit of an unclean devil and cried out with a loud voice, saying, Let us alone. What have we to do with
thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him? And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him and hurt him not. And they were all amazed and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this? For with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits and they come out and the fame of him went into every place of the country roundabout. Now [clears throat] it goes on the next Jesus heals many. This right here I want to show you something about about the anointing. The people of Nazareth knew Jesus. They had watched him grow up. They were familiar with him. Right? and nothing they didn't I believe they didn't expect anything different out of this day than any other day except this time Jesus gets up and reads the scriptures and it says all their eyes were fastened on him that means that as he spoke as he did something he had normally done probably hundreds of times all of a sudden there's something different now what's different the anointing of the Holy Spirit The anointing of the Holy Spirit gets people's attention. All right? See, I'll tell you a little secret. This is what they don't understand why I win the debates. Because when I speak, there's something else there. Somebody can say the same things, but there's something else there. And it annoys them, right? But I know that. You know why I know that? because I can feel it sometimes. Sometimes the Lord allows me to sense as the anointing is moving in a church service or in a political debate. Oh, you mean you could be anointed out in the world? Yeah, that's actually what it's for, right? But notice he speaks this word, right? And he tells them this day it's fulfilled. And boom, again, they're like, "What in the world is going on here?" and they start leaning to their their natural human brain reasoning, the flesh reason. Wasn't this Joseph's son? Because in their spirit was recognizing the power of God on his words. No miracle had been done, no sign or wonder. They were just recognizing in their spirit, but their mind was trying to push it away. Their mind was trying to deal with it. And this is why, as you'll see, how many times you think they'd heard the story of Elijah and Elisha, about the widow woman, about the leper, about how many times have they read it? How many times they heard? Why all of a sudden when Jesus speaks it pointing out a little truth within those
two situations that they were Gentiles? Why all of a sudden they want to kill him? See, I'll tell you something else. The anointing of the Holy Spirit in your life will bring hatred. People will hate you and won't even know why they hate you. They will come against you. They will they will say to you, "I agree with you." And then still want to kill you. They don't even know why they're so upset. But the anointing annoys demons and flesh. You hear me? And the carnal mind. And the carnal mind, guess what? Cannot understand the things of the spirit of God. The natural man doesn't receive these things. But can you imagine what did Jesus do? He read a passage from Isaiah, told him today it's fulfilled in your ears. And also, let me tell you a little story about Elijah and Elisha that I'm sure you remember. and they grab him to take him and throw him off a mountain side. Is that logical? See, the anointing makes no sense sometimes to the unsaved, but the demons in them. The fact that if you are unsaved, you are considered really God's enemy. Right. And you it gets discovered when you get around someone who has the anointing who tells you the truth. See the Bible talks about this in in Corinthians and it says that if our gospel's hid it's hid to them that that are lost in whom the god of this world little g Satan his power has blinded their minds. It says, "Lest or unless the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine unto them." See, here's what happens. You You say, "Well, I've talked to people and talked to people and talk to people and they just don't listen." Yeah, you're right. Because there is a satanic blindness on them. But what breaks that off? The anointing. The anointing will break through that sometimes. And when it does, they begin to see. Now, the reaction to once you realize that you are a sinner and headed to hell and under the judgment of God is not always nice. This is why they cuss at you. This is why they persecute you. This is why people actually resort to violence sometimes.
See, this used to drive This is why like when me and my brother first got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit and were praying and fasting all the time and witnessing on the street and doing all the stuff. Why? When we just got around my mom and my stepdad, they would lose their minds. I mean, I got guns pulled on me twice. I got cussed out by my own mother. I didn't do anything. I mean, I had done far worse when I was a sinner and didn't get that treatment. Right. What was causing that reaction? The anointing of the Holy Spirit now. They had heard the gospel. They had heard the scriptures. They had been to church. What was different with me and my brother? They weren't around a bunch of lukewarming hypocrites. They finally got around some people that it was real. It was legit. We were born again. We had truly repented. Jesus was Lord. We were praying. We were baptized in the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking other tongues. We were trying to get the the worldly crap and sin out of our lives. And it drove them crazy because the anointing penetrated through all the blindness and darkness. And and this is why if you are a Christian, if you know you're born again, you should never settle for being in some lukewarm rut. You've got to cry out to God. And listen, if you have the anointing, you're going to see breakthrough in areas that you didn't you never would. But you're also going to see hatred and resistance coming against you like you have never experienced. Satan hates the anointing of the Holy Spirit because he had it once and lost it and he will never have it again. And let me just tell you this too. There is nothing more wonderful. There is nothing more awesome. There is nothing more peaceful and powerful at the same time than when you actually can God allows you to feel and sense the anointing of the Holy Spirit on you and moving through you. It is actually a little I believe it is a taste of the age to come. Amen. Nothing nothing is like that. And and and so that song when that song that Johnny sang that
song he sang about once you know the anointing, you'll never be the same without it and you will never be satisfied to live without the anointing. And what to me why so many backsliders are so miserable is because they know what it is to walk in the anointing and glory of God at one point and then to be completely away from him and and not have that anymore. I mean, you're you're actually like a a junkie going through withdrawals, right? You're supposed to be addicted to Jesus. Addicted to the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Holy Spirit. And see, to me, again, there's there's part of the body of Christ who they they want the gifts and the manifestations and the the miracles and the the signs and wonders. They want all that to glorify themselves and and to build a big ministry. But the true motive and deep down should be that you want you simply want to help people come to know him. Bring healing, deliverance, encouragement, correction, whatever is needed into that person to help somebody. That should be the whole reason you desire the gifts of the holy so and so you can know God's will for yourself so you can hear his voice and so you can be led by the Holy Spirit you know the other day and and and let me just say sometimes when the Holy Spirit leads you he does lead you into the wilderness or he leads you into a situation that causes you great difficulty is he's not always leading us into a nice sweet comfortable able places. You understand? Um, you know, just to give you an example, the other day when all this heat started coming down on me and y'all know with the Alabama Republican party and just a whole war I'm in with them right now. Um, you know, it's it would be easier, my life would be a whole lot easier just to go, you know what, y'all take this whole bunch of crap and just leave me alone. I'm going this way. But you know what the Lord said to me? I'm in the midst of all this. It was last weekend. And I'm in the midst of all this mess. And I'm praying and I'm like, Lord, I'm sick. I don't feel good. I'm tired. I'm like, why am I why is this, you know, why is all this going on?
And the Lord said to me real clearly, Holy Spirit came on me and he said, "If you had not obeyed me to do what you're doing, you would not be where you are right now." And he said, "I have you right where I want you." Amen. And that was all I needed to be reminded. He didn't say it was going to be easy. He didn't say I was going to be loved by everybody. He didn't say anything. He said what? Obey me. And that's another thing about this. If you want to be anointed, you go where the Lord tells you to go. You do what he tells you to do when he tells you to do it. No matter the level of difficulty it may be, no matter how uncomfortable it is to your flesh or your mind, you do what he tells you to do. And if you walk in integrity and honesty and stay truthful and never sell out, never compromise, you will keep the anointing of the Holy Spirit on your life. And let me just tell you this too, the good thing is if you're obeying the Lord and walking as he is leading you to walk, it doesn't matter how if you feel the anointing of the Holy Spirit or not, you're still anointed. You can feel rotten to the core and still walk into a room and stir up every devil just because you walked in there. See, that's what I do all the time. I don't even some I don't even have to speak. I just walk into a room, everybody's mad at me. We have people talking about that. We used to have people that were here, they're no longer here. You say, they would just get mad at me for no reason. They're like, "All of a sudden, I'm just mad at Pastor D. He didn't do anything. He didn't even say anything that offended me. I'm just mad at him." And I don't know why. That's cuz the anointing in me is anointing the demons in you. And I'll tell you something else. The anointing is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. He's also known as the spirit of truth. Meaning, he's always going to be he's always going to have his power on the truth. Really, all you got to do is keep telling the truth. Keep telling the truth and the anointing of God will be upon you. Some captives and people are going to get set free, but you're going to be hated, persecuted, and they're going to want to kill you. You hear me? If you are not stirring things up, check yourself. Am I anointed? Do I have a prayer life? Do I have a worship life? Am I obeying the Lord? You know, I'll tell you something else, too. Some people think, "Well, I got to pray eight hours a day to be anointed." No, you
don't. But if the Lord told you to do that, you better do it. You understand? sometimes like he did with Joshua and the sin of Achen and all that and Joshua throws himself down pray the Lord said get up what you what are you praying for the problem you got to go deal with the problem I don't need your praying I need you to go fix deal with the problem so sometimes the answer is not am I praying enough it's am I obeying enough am Am I in the will of God for my life? Am I doing what he wants me to do? Am I where he wants me to be? See, that's the thing about Jesus. Jesus what? Always followed what the father told him to do by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, he always had the anointing. Even when his spirit was troubled and he felt sorrowful. Remember there were times Jesus was felt overwhelmed by what was going on around him. John 11, garden of Gethsemane. times he felt physically, mentally, emotionally overwhelmed, but yet the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the power of the Holy Spirit was still upon him, tangible upon him because he was right where he was supposed to be. I cannot stress this enough. I can tell you right now that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is on my life because I have continued to say, "Lord, whatever you tell me to do, that I will do." That's it. I'm yours. If the Lord told me tomorrow, you're you're you're done. Fire and Grace, I want you to walk away. Turn Fire and Grace Church over to somebody else. I would do it. Now, I don't think he's gonna do that. But you understand, I'm not I'm not married to anything except my wife. That I can't what I'm saying that I can't say put Jesus second or third or fourth or fifth. You get what I'm saying? If the Lord told me tomorrow, hey, I don't want you running for Lieutenant Go, I'd walk away in a heartbeat. Bye. Thank God. Hallelujah. You understand? But see, I know too the anointing of the Holy Spirit, he wants us like with Jesus, he wants us to not just stay in the wilderness.
There's a point where we got to go into the world. We got to walk into the synagogues, to the marketplace, to the temple court where everybody is. We take that anointing there. See, that's what you you see the Apostle Paul doing. You want talk about somebody anointed? The Apostle Paul was anointed. I can't believe there's Froot Loops out here say talking about the Apostle Paul was a false apostle. Y'all, anybody you hear anybody that's a devil talking? He was so anointed of God that he could go into a city and they would start a riot. They would want to tear him to pieces. And that's what I say. The anointing of the Holy Spirit truly, the true anointing will bring a revival or a riot. Sometimes both. Yeah. Sometimes both. But you will be hated just because of that. I know I know people who've gotten saved, had job the same job for years, got saved, got filled with the Holy Spirit, didn't even talk about Jesus at work and got fired. Just because the people around him could not stand him anymore and didn't even know why. We just can't deal with this person anymore. And this is this is why too a lot of times you have to when you go in in like you've got to go into a situation, okay? Like give an example me with the January 20th, the debate we had that night knowing I'm going into a situation where there's already going to be great spiritual opposition just to me being there. Right? That's why you have to take the authority you have in the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus and bind the demons and rebuke them and resist them before you get there. You had to bind the demons in people which binding is the temporary suspension of de demons activity. And what was cool is that I have other people that know how to pray and do spiritual warfare that were praying for me that evening. And what was funny is Jordan Jordan bound the lying spirits while we were while I was sitting up there debating. He said, "I felt like I'm supposed to bind the lying spirits in West Allen, the politician." This is why he couldn't answer the question because the only spirit working through him was a lying spirit. And when Jordan bound it, he wouldn't even answer the question whether he voted to raise the gas tax, which is a matter of public record, right? But he wouldn't even say it because the demons in him are lying spirits. They wanted to lie. Well, they were going to have to tell the truth. And he wouldn't even do that. So, either lie or tell the truth. Well, the lying spirit's bound. I'm not telling the truth, so I can't speak. I'm not
responding to Mr. Odel's nonsense. the question about you raising the gas tax. Right? This is what I'm talking about. There is spiritual battles going on, right? And that exposed the wickedness of that. That man manifested. The demons in him manifested. You said, "Pastor D, you talking about him? He might hear this." Yeah, I don't care. He's demonpossessed. He almost did a lizard neck thing there that night. He's a lying, scheming politician full of lying spirits and no telling what else. But guess what? That confrontation when the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the truth hit the lying, deceptive spirits, that's why it it exposed the whole thing, right? Well, this is what Jesus did. The anointing of the Holy Spirit exposed the whole problem in Nazareth, their unbelief, the way they looked at him. They probably been looking down their noses for decades. Oh, his mother, you know, she was an adulteress. He's, you know, a bastard or something like that. I mean, they probably thought that up, right? and they but again they had no discernment real discernment of who he was. So then he steps on the scene and see the anointing is God's hand upon you. It's God's approval upon you. And boy does the devil hate it. And boy, I tell you what, you know, the picture, the picture I made today was David being anointed by Samuel, the prophet Samuel. And the moment that Samuel said, "David, come here. You're the one." His brothers were not happy. It exposed the pride, the jealousy, the arrogance. See, the anointing is always going to expose what's in you and what's in people around you. It's not always pleasant when we find out what's really in folks. God always God always uses situations like this to find out and help you find out where your heart is. You know, if his if their brothers his brother's hearts were right, they would been happy for David. They were not.
Especially Eli, right? He was really ill. He was the oldest. Oldest supposed to get everything, right? Firstborn get everything. Not little brother. But what does it say there in First Samuel 17 I mean 16. When when Samuel anointed him and I'm gonna just I'm going to just bring this out. Samuel was anointed by God and God sent him yes to pour oil on his head but it was more than that. It was a transference of the anointing of Samuel upon him. Y'all have to understand this is this is something if if if you want the anointing, not only do you need to be honest, truthful person and obey the Lord and follow the Lord, but you need to be make sure you're around other people who are anointed because it rubs off on you. But he said, "How long wil thou mourn for Saul, seeing I've rejected him, look at this, reigning over Israel, fill thy horn with oil, and go and send thee to Jesse the Bethleamite, for I have provided me a king among his sons." And it says, "When he anointed him with oil, the spirit of God came upon David that day and left Saul." Now, I'm going to tell you this. I believe David already had an anointing upon his life because God called him a man after my own heart. He was obviously a man who prayed a lot, fasted, worshiped God. But that day, another anointing, a fresh anointing. And I will say this too. There are multiple anointings that can come on your life. There's one when you get saved. There's one when you get baptized in the Holy Spirit. There's another when you step out to be a witness. There's another that can come upon you when you're called to a specific ministry office. But think about this, David. We forget that when David went and killed Goliath again, what did he say? It's not it's not me. It's the Lord's going to do this. The anointing on. And think about this. David would go out and he would kill hundreds of Philistines by himself. one man. His mighty men would hang out with him.
These were the people closest to David and like what was his name? Uh Eleazar, the son of Dodo the Ahoite or something like that. But when it talks about men who could take a sword or a spear, one man, and go fight and kill 800 men at a time. This is supernatural, right? It's like Samuel killing a thousand Philistines with a jawbone of a donkey. War him. I mean, it physically it wore him out. To do something like that, you have to have the hand of the Lord, the anointing, the power of God upon you. I mean, Samson, I'm sorry. People look start looking funny. I know I must I knew I must have said something something weird. Samson is what I meant. And and Samson's another another illustration of this too, how he was a very flawed individual. But as long as he walked in obedience to the things God told him to do, God even overlooked all his other mess. He definitely had female issues. Now, because he didn't deal with that, that issue finally took him down. But how did it take him down? It took him down when he went against the things that made the anointing be upon his life.
