Redemption #14 - Redemption of the Body
About this sermon
In “Redemption #14 - Redemption of the Body,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about faith, the resurrection, salvation. Drawing especially from 1 Thessalonians 5, Colossians 2, 1 Corinthians 5, Romans 8, the teaching emphasizes that biblical faith trusts God’s character and acts upon His promises. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that Christ’s resurrection establishes the believer’s hope and the certainty of God’s final victory.

foreign [Music] good morning everybody I've entitled this Redemption of the body because of course this class is talking about Redemption meaning what Jesus bought and paid for right what he purchased and redeemed and first and foremost is our spirit and then he's in the process of redeeming our soul and eventually he will redeem the body so we're going to talk a little bit about that this morning in fact before we get into this in great depth about the Redemption of the resurrection of the body the Mortal putting on immortality corruption putting on incorruption we do need to look at the Spirit soul and body again because this is one of the most important things to think for a believer in Jesus Christ to understand is the differences between Spirit soul and body and that process in um salvation and Redemption so first I guess first let's do this let's go to first Thessalonians chapter 5. he says this and the Very God of Peace sanctify you holy and I pray God that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ now I've taught on this and preached this many many times on this verse let's read it again one more time so we understand we get it down in US Paul said and the Very God of Peace sanctify that means to cleanse to make holy you holy that word just means is completely and I pray you're whole or your entire your complete spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ so if we see here he connects this Spirit soul and body thing also to the second coming of Jesus right because at the second coming is going to be the ultimate day of redemption that's the day that uh everything is changed everything that was bought and paid for by Jesus will be done in Believers okay but he says here we have a spirit we have a soul we have a body so let's we can put up that first graphic just to show you this right here this is first Thessalonians 5 23 and a little graphic picture here of our three distinct parts that we have that make us one person your spirit right here and I've said this before but your spirit contains your conscience which is your ability to discern right and wrong it also has to do with your intuition

your ability to perceive things in the spirit Realm and then it also has to do in the area where you worship God in spirit and in truth you also have a spirit body that has the shape of a body but it's spirit and the spirit body can speak it can hear it can see as God Wills but your spirit man is part now and then you have a soul which is your mind will and emotions your Consciousness makes you a sentient being as they say but your soul these are but these are two different things a lot of people think the spirit and the soul the same thing that's probably one of the biggest misunderstandings when you talk about Spirit soul and body people will use them interchangeably but they're really not but then of course then we have the body so I think some of the old uh the old timers used to say you know you're not just a physical person you really are a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body okay but this is very important to understand because I want to talk a little bit about the the progression of redemption of regeneration of Salvation because it really starts in this direction it starts in your spirit goes to your soul and will eventually culminate in the body that's why here toward the end of this class we're talking now about the Redemption of the body this morning but let's look at the definition just so you see these words here there are three different words for Spirit soul and body so they're not the same thing all right so here's the word for Spirit it is pneuma okay very important this is something you ought to learn here pneuma of course this shows you how many times it's used in the King James version 385 times so it's a lot Spirit just Spirit by itself is 111 Times Holy Ghost 89 times spirit of God 13 times Jesus own Spirit six times small s spirit 47 times so you see it's used a lot it means current of air breath Breeze by analogy a spirit human uh the rational Soul by implication the vital principle so on and so forth It's really the life force that God breathed into us I believe in our mother's womb so pneuma is the word for spirit and again it all depends on the context because it can mean the Holy Spirit if holy is before it in the context of the verse it can mean human the human Spirit it can mean an evil spirit just depends on the context it's just the word for Spirit okay so yes pneuma for spirit and then we have

suke but if you notice how it's spelled for soul isn't it that's that that's an English word in it psyche all right that's how we say it in English but it's okay in Greek but spelled pretty much the same way there right so we have psyche or suke and this is again it says breath but it says it's it's distinct or different because it's the sentient principle the rational or Immortal Soul the mind so this has to do with the realm of the mind and the emotions all right and then of course we have the word for body here is soma Soma and of course that's self-explanatory the physical body it says down here the body of both men and animals the physical aspect of us so is it interesting I want to say this this morning I see the trinity of God in this way and I think this is the biblical way not man's way is that let's let's go back to our graphic that if you can the uh that's first Thessalonians 5 23 just to use this for a second I see that we are created in God's image and that again like I've said many times before there are not three Deans right there's not three josiahs there's not three daniellas there's not three Kevin's there's not three but yet we have three very distinct parts now the Bible says in in Colossians 2 8 9 that Jesus is the fullness of the godhead bodily the scriptures also told us that he had the holy spirit in him without measure meaning there was no part held back so he had fully the Holy Spirit and the Soul now now the way I see the Trinity is just like this right here I see the spirit as the holy spirit of God I see the soul the mind the will the emotions as the father and I see the body with both of these in the body is Jesus okay and this is not hard to understand if you understand that even the human being when we die and we're talking about we're going to be talking about the Redemption of the body today so we're talking about if we die before Jesus comes as a born-again believer in Jesus Christ there's going to be a separation this our spirit in Soul will separate from our body and be present with the Lord our body will go into the grave so even though these three parts are one sound familiar they can separate out from one another okay

and we see this also with like the Apostle Paul in First Corinthians 5 we see it with the prophet Ezekiel how God would take their Spirit out of their body take them somewhere else and show them something now the witches and the satanists they do that with demonic power it's called astral projection or astral travel but God can do it in any believer anytime he so chooses if he wants to take us somewhere and show us something or take us into the spirit realm and show us something he can take our spirit out of our body all right he can separate that so these three parts are three very distinct very different parts but they make up the one person that we are everybody has a spirit a soul and a body okay and today what we're we're going to get to in a minute is we're talking about people who die before Jesus comes at the end at the second coming of Christ there's going to be the dead in Christ will rise first well what's he talking about he's talking about the body we're going to see the full Redemption of the body um but that's just very important for you to get a hold of because what see what did Jesus say Jesus in the body would always say I do the will of my father see that's why I say I believe the father rep is in in the creation of who we are in His image I see the father as the will the mind the will the emotions he said that's why Jesus can say I always do the will of my father I do what he leads me to do and that's really true about us too guess what you will always do in the body what you meditate on in the mind what you choose to believe and what you choose to meditate on you will act upon all right so that's what Jesus was talking about of course this thing of the Trinity the Triune nature of God it is a great mystery it is it is hard for us human beings to fully grab a hold of but I think we've got to be biblical about it now whether God is manifesting himself like he did on the day of Pentecost primarily by his holy spirit the holy spirit of God is fully God fully him manifesting his spirit is there okay um same with the father and the son they can be manifest they can manifest themselves distinct separate from the other but they are one so God is Triune but one okay he has three parts but he is one God We Are Made In His Image so moving on from that let's go now and look at some scriptures where it talks about um what I'm going to show you is the
