About this sermon

In “Worship & Warfare,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about worship, Satanic opposition, biblical love. Drawing especially from John 14:6, Luke 4, Ezekiel 28, Ezekiel 28:11, the teaching emphasizes that true worship centers on God and is expressed through reverence, surrender, and obedience. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that Satan’s work is described through deception, accusation, temptation, and opposition to God’s purposes.

on a piece of paper that we believe God where it's not a blind faith that we have Lord you reveal yourself to your people. Lord you promised Lord in your word that those who love you and those who obey you and keep your Commandments that you would come and manifest yourself to them. Well, that's what your word says and Lord you are faithful to that. The Holy Spirit comes and and confirms to us and bears witness that we are children of God when we are born again. And Lord I thank you that we can know you Jesus and not just about you Lord and that's what it's all about Lord you we were created to know you. We were created to have fellowship with you. We were created to to worship you and adore you and love you and you and you love us Lord. And we're just grateful Lord. We're grateful that you're merciful and patient. We're grateful that you're just and holy. You are righteous and there is none like you. God none like you Jehovah. None like you almighty God. None like you Lord Jesus Christ. Lord we just worship this morning. We give thanks. We give praise. We declare and exalt you for who you are the king of kings and the Lord of lords the God of all gods. You are the mighty one the holy one the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob the true God. All other gods are false gods. We exalt you. We bless you this morning. The mighty name of Jesus. Hallelujah. Praise be to God. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. You know I think even though that we are a Pentecostal charismatic leaning church of course believing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit believing in the fivefold ministry um believing in in praise and worship and all that that means. um I still think we've have a long way to go to learn some things about worshiping God and loving God and giving praise to God. And the Lord just kind of laid this on my heart. I remember years ago um there was a teaching in the 80s that started kind of in the in the 80s maybe in the late 70s but I remember it in the 80s and and even in the 90s where they talked about there were seven different Hebrew words just for the word praise in the Old Testament. And sometimes just translated praise but they're really different Hebrew words.

  2. 0:03:01

And I remember that study and I and I'm pretty sure that I taught on worship when I had the church in Montgomery. um but I've never taught on it like I'm about to um because I started digging even further into the scriptures on this matter. And um I began to see there were a whole lot more words for worship and praise and and exalting God than just those seven words that got to be so popular back in in the 80s. And listen it was good that it got popular because a lot of people learned um biblical worship and what that was about and truly what it means to worship God. Now I don't know how far we'll get into some of those words today but I want you to understand and I just put worship and warfare today on this message but really it could be really entitled the war over your worship. Okay. But anyway the war over your worship there's a war the devil you know you look at it this way. God created you to give glory to him. He created you um to fellowship with him. He created you to honor and glorify him. Just the fact that he made you and I in his image um shows that we are supposed to reflect him and we are supposed to be like him and love him and be close to him and all those things. um But the devil is out there too. Satan Lucifer uh the adversary um we're going to look at some things about him today but he's after your worship. And Lucifer doesn't care what he can get you. If he can get you to worship him then he likes that. But if he can't get you to directly worship him then he will try to get you to worship something else. He will try to get you to adore honor bow to idolize something else. And it's important that we know that that the war going on in our lives is over our worship. It's over our adulation. It's over our for our love. And you're either going to give it to God 100% or you're going to give it to some other God some other idol some other demon or some or or the devil himself or you're going to give it to some person or thing that you idolize. But you're going to worship something. This is something we just need to settle down in us. You and I human beings are created with an innate desire and and we're just built that way that we're going to worship something. We're going to praise something. We're going to love something.

  3. 0:06:01

See what I'm saying? And here's here's what I'm getting at. If we can learn to put God first then we will be able to truly love the people around us the way we should. But the moment we don't put God first is the moment that everything gets messed up. Listen if the devil wasn't after worship why would he create so many false religions? He hides behind all these different names Krishna Vishnu Allah Buddha Maitreya He creates all these names. He had all these different gods in the Old Testament Baal Beelzebub Ashteroth Molech Malcolm all these different names but you know what they all point to one being. Satan right? And he would do anything to get somebody to bow to a statue. If he couldn't get somebody to bow to a statue and worship Baal then he would create a female deity like Ashteroth. He'll do anything he had. You know that's why they had all those different gods and deities. The demons and Satan himself would reveal themselves to these people in different ways and get them to worship them as God but it's always been about that. It's always been about your worship. Now another thing before we dive into this we need to understand as Christians not only not only is this area important to us in our fellowship and our relationship with God and just being what we are created to be. I mean you want to tell me why why some people are depressed and discouraged they're just not being what God created them to be right? I mean God created us to worship him to love him to be close to him and if we won't worship him and if we won't draw near to him then we're really frustrating the very reason we were created right? But anyway before I get into this I I want you to know too that your worship is also a powerful weapon against the spiritual warfare that Satan brings against you. All right? Now I'm going to show you this and none of us including me in here and I'm going to tell the truth none of us I don't think really understand how worship singing praising God exalting God speaking those things out of our mouth truly lifting up the name of Jesus and exalting him and praising him and singing to him lifting our hands bowing before him all the things that we'll see are parts of worship all those things cause the devil and demons great pain and agony. It causes the power of God literally to come into the situation whether you feel it whether you see it or not at that moment but literally when you begin to truly worship and praise

God God says that he inhabits the praises of his people. This is a an amazing phenomenon. That's why it's important that your your life of worship is not just on Sunday mornings. Amen. It should be seven days a week as much as you possibly can. And again we're going to see all the reasons for this but I want to show you just a few scriptures first and this is kind of an introduction today I guess you would say but go to John chapter 4. Now this is a familiar scripture it ought to be to many but we have to lay the foundation here on this. When Jesus was having a discussion with the woman at the well the Samaritan woman and of course because of Jeroboam's sins when the kingdom split after Solomon because Jeroboam set up a a false religious system in Samaria in in the region of Dan. He set up this false religious system because he was afraid the people would go to Jerusalem to worship and therefore he would lose people even though God gave him 10 tribes and gave Rehoboam only two down in the south. He was afraid if the people left the northern kingdom of Israel and went to the southern kingdom of Judah that he would begin to lose them because of the temple was there. So he created his own his own temple, his own altar, his own sacrifice, his own priest. He created his own system because again the devil got in this situation because what was the war over? The people's worship, right? And so now you had a king of Israel and Solomon of course started this, but a king of Israel began to lead God's people to worship other things. Oh yeah, they still worshiped the Lord God Jehovah, but they just started adding things. Well, guess what? You don't add things. If you're a child of God, you you are born again child of God, you you can't worship other things. You can't have other gods. You can't have other idols. That's why Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but through me. And that's basically here what Jesus tells this woman at the well because she said, "Our fathers, the Samaritans say we should worship in this mountain. But the Jews say you should worship here." And Jesus doesn't avoid the subject. He actually straightens it out. So let's read this. We'll read a little bit of it. Let's see. Let's go down. All, let's just uh verse five. Then cometh he to the city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well
