The Glory of God
About this sermon
In “The Glory of God,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about the glory of God, the condition of the church, prayer. Drawing especially from Psalm 63, Psalm 16, Isaiah 66, Exodus 13, the teaching emphasizes that God’s glory exposes sin, deepens reverence, and changes those who seek His presence. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that the church is called to recover biblical faithfulness instead of accommodating compromise.

[Music] i believe the lord has given someone the interpretation don't be afraid to step out which you felt the lord begin to speak to you or say to you or show you i just want to say that was from the lord and i'll tell you why in a minute anybody else feel anything else that's something i shared with the church a few weeks ago that a church like ours it's trying to the message we're trying to put forth and the thing we're trying to do the devil is going to oppose it on every side but he will oppose it by opposing individuals the church does not do anything but what we all do and uh amen it's a battle sometimes it's a battle for me on sunday morning sunday nights sometimes i don't sleep too good believe it or not sometimes even the pastor doesn't want to come to church amen praise god y'all can be seated i'll say this about um that word um kevin had no idea and i didn't tell him before the service that my message this morning is about the glory of god and um i think it's something it's something that we need to um get a hold of that the glory of god is a different a different aspect of god and i know that in times past and i think when we were meeting at nick and karen's i talked a little bit about this but i'm just going to start off with this right here um tuesday night when um

we're going to have bible study and it seems like things have kind of changed with bible study because everybody's had something that's got to be done on tuesday nights and i understand that and we were just an experiment to see if tuesday nights would be a good night but um so we may be changing that around in the days ahead and maybe do like in every other friday get together and something like that i'm looking at something different here but um but it ended up being just this nancy and i but it ended up being awesome because we just started praying and we had on some of these songs we listened to this hill song and we had this and we just started praying and and i want to tell you sometimes when if if you'll give yourself to prayer there are times when it seems like it's work and it's difficulty but there are sometimes when the holy spirit moves on you and begins to help you pray and begins to pray through you what he wills and as we begin to pray there and i begin to pray and i begin to ask god and this is something i've been just meditating on really for about the last two years is the difference between the glory of god and even his presence the difference between the glory of god and the anointing the difference between the glory of god and even the operation of the gifts the glory of god yes is his presence but his presence is not always his glory we'll talk about that in a second but as we were praying it just came all over me to pray for the glory of god to come down and and this is not a term that i use lightly or flippantly when i talk about the glory of god because when the glory of god truly comes down upon a person or upon a church or even upon a region when the glory of god shows up it's not all nice the glory of god comes down and exposes sin the glory of god will judge things that he was but that he was tolerating for a season when his glory shows up he won't tolerate anymore and if you don't believe me you can ask ananias and sapphira you can get away with things in the presence of god that you can't get away with in the glory of god there are people who can live in sin and still operate in the anointing or the gifts of god but they will not have the glory of god and the church has made the mistake of thinking that the anointing of god or the presence of god when we get together is all we need and if that was all we need then we would see revival breaking out all over the place but we don't because you have to pay a price for the glory of god you have to pay a price of of hunger and being hungry and thirsty for more of god's glory and with a willingness for god to deal with anything in you that's that's wrong the glory of god will not come on a people who keep on compromising those same compromising people though can still operate in the gifts and the anointing you get what i'm saying

that is one of the most dangerous things in the church world to think that we can have god's presence and miss his glory and then be those people that said lord we prophesied in your name and in your name we cast out demons which takes the authority and power of jesus to do but jesus will look at us and say depart from me you lawbreakers lawbreakers don't get the glory see holiness is a requirement for glory to come god can call you and anoint you like he did samson and the anointing and the gift will keep working even while you're sleeping with the harlot see what i'm saying the gift will keep working for a while and this is the dangerous thing that we can deceive ourselves and even think in church that if we feel the breeze of the presence of god that we're okay well you know what it's wonderful to have any manifestation of god's presence in a in your prayer prayer life or in a church service or when you worship but but thinking that that somehow sticking your toe in the pool or or just sticking your toe in the river is the same as diving in the river and the same as the river filling you and flowing out of you it's a whole different revelation take your bible and i want you to just turn to this scripture this is in psalm 63 we're going to go a few places with this and but as we were praying i guess i didn't tell you again but as we were praying as i was praying for the glory of god this the spirit of god came all over me about it i mean i was in tears about it because i know that no church will be fully what god wants it to be unless the glory manifests in it i know that sinners will not fall under conviction and now i'm talking about sinners that have no intention on getting saved falling under conviction unless the glory of god comes the glory of god brings the fear of god and i'm going to prove these things in just a second but the glory of god to bring the bring the fear of god it brings the conviction but let me say this to you what you don't realize is is this is one of the reasons some of you have gone to church for years and never felt really satisfied on the inside is because most of those churches most of them don't even have the presence of god at all they have they so don't preach the truth and they so don't hunger and thirst for him and there's so much sin in the in the camp they just they don't even have a breeze of his presence but every now and then in some of those churches they might as the bible says when we if two or three are gathered together in his midst he said he will be there and the bible says when we praise the lord he will inhabit our praises and every now and then he'll

come in there and people will think that was great but something down on the inside is never satisfied well i want to say this the presence of god just the breeze of his presence is a good thing but the only thing that really satisfies the human spirit and the human soul is the glory of god now i want to say this in in the old testament there's two different words when you you'll see the word the presence of the lord like in psalm 16 when he says in your presence is fullness of joy y'all know about that remember that scripture psalm 16 in your presence is fullness of joy well that word presence there is the is the hebrew word panim and it means the face as the part that turns basically what that means is is the glory is so on god's face that even if you can get him to turn his face in your direction in the sense of him having favor that is the pawning that is the presence now let me tell you the presence is good i'm not trying to put down the presence of god when god turns his face towards you in favor and and that light begins to shine upon you it's a wonderful thing when you feel that peace of god wash over you anybody know what i'm talking about it's a wonderful thing when you feel your heart strangely warmed as john wesley said when he was finally born again it's a wonderful thing when like the the people on the road to emmaus when they said did not our hearts burn within us while he opened the scriptures to us that experience of the presence of god is is the reality of christianity not that you can just know about this god that we serve but that you can know him and experience him and talk to him and him talk to you that it's a real relationship so the presence of god is good the same word is used in isaiah 66 and 64 when it talks about the presence of the lord coming down in the mountains trembling i mean so i'm not trying to diminish the word presence but it is a completely different term from the word glory in the old testament when you see the word glory translated in the old testament when it is speaking about the glory of god it is the hebrew word kabald and what that means in the hebrew is it means a copiousness a heaviness an overflow of god and this is the way i've tried to to define it and i've defined it in the past is this way because one day god just hit me with all this and i was just writing it down as fast as he was he was showing it to me but a good definition of this is that the presence of god is the atmosphere around him it's when he turns his face he may be still at a dis distance but he gets close enough that some of it starts radiating off him and you feel it okay
