The Curses of October
About this sermon
In The Curses of October, Pastor Dean Odle warns that Halloween imagery and occult practices are not spiritually neutral. Using Ephesians 6, he frames October as a season of intensified spiritual conflict and urges Christians to put on the whole armor of God, exercise faith through obedience, and remove occult objects and symbols from their homes.

The service opens with worship and prayer for healing before Odle names the subject: spiritual pressure associated with October and Halloween.
Ephesians 6 defines the conflict as spiritual. Odle stresses the shield of faith as believing and acting on Scripture, then warns against celebrating witchcraft, death, and occult symbols.
Deuteronomy 7 is applied as a continuing principle against bringing idolatrous objects into the home. Odle recounts experiences in Eureka Springs and encounters he understood as demonic.
Second Timothy 3 frames increasing deception and persecution. Odle alleges that occult practitioners sometimes infiltrate churches and ministries; those claims are preserved as his testimony.
Galatians 5 identifies witchcraft among works of the flesh. Odle insists that people involved in Satanism are not beyond Christ’s mercy if they repent and leave those practices.
The armor is interpreted Christologically: Christ is salvation, righteousness, peace, truth, and the author of faith. Trials may still come, as Job and Peter demonstrate, but believers can stand.
Odle discusses sickness, legal or property conflict, and ministry strain as current burdens. He calls the congregation to discernment, mutual support, and persistent prayer.
The congregation is asked to fast and pray for wisdom, provision, church direction, and resistance to spiritual attack without panic or retaliation.
Odle warns that hatred itself is spiritually destructive and appeals for integrity in relationships, leadership, and public life while continuing to oppose occult practice.
The sermon concludes by asking God to protect and guide the church, provide for its future, strengthen its people, and accomplish his will through their present trials.

[Music] Yes, Lord. We worship you this morning. We give you the glory. We thank you, Lord, for all you've done and all you're going to do because you're not finished. Not finished with us, Lord. You're not finished with this church. You're not finished with us individually. Doesn't matter how old we are or how weak we feel or inadequate. Lord, none of that matters because Lord, you said we have this treasure in earth and vessels and that when we are weak, then you are strong through us. Lord, we thank you, God, for all that you're doing. We thank you for the healings we saw uh last Wednesday the Wednesday before. Lord, this you moved in this place and you healed people and touched people and we ask you to do the same today. Lord, I know there are those here that need healing. And we pray for those miracles to flow. You're faithful. We know we're in a war with Satan and he knows how to manipulate sickness and disease and attack us. But Lord, you've given us power to resist the devil so that he'll flee from us. You said believers would lay hands on the sick and they will recover. You said for the elders of the church to anoint people with oil and Lord, you'd heal the sick through the prayer of faith. And Lord, we believe you're the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus, you still come into your church. You still heal. You still deliver. You still save. You convict people of their sins and reveal yourself to them. Lord, we're grateful. I I'll never forget the day you revealed yourself to me when I felt the power, the peace, the love, the glory of heaven, your presence coming into my heart and my life. There's nothing better than to know you and walk with you, Lord. Even if we have to walk through hardships, even if we have to walk through difficulties, [Music] we choose to not give up, but to be of those people that endure to the end. Jesus, thank you, Lord. Thank you, Jesus. Can we do that um heart of worship medley that y'all we're going to do with I think we need to do one more song here because it's all about him. Amen. Do one more. Thank you Jesus. [Music]

[Music] And Jesus, you don't owe me anything. More than anything that you can do, I just want you. [Music] And I'm sorry when I've just gone through the motions. I'm sorry when I just sang another song. Take me back to where we started. I open up my heart to you [Music] and I'm sorry when I've come with my agenda. I'm sorry when I forgot that you're enough. Take me back to where we started. I open up my heart to you [Music] cuz I just want you. Nothing else, nothing else, nothing else will do. I just want you. Nothing else. Nothing else, nothing else will do. I just want you. Nothing else. Nothing else. Nothing else will do. Tell her I just want you. Nothing else. Nothing else. [Music] Nothing else. will do [Music]
