About this sermon

In “Spiritual Pollution,” Pastor Dean Odle develops a Scripture-centered message moving through remembering genuine spiritual renewal, satan’s attack on simplicity in christ, when revival becomes compromised, admiration must not replace discernment. The sermon follows the speaker’s argument chronologically, grounding its principal appeals in biblical passages and practical ministry examples.

Chronological teaching outline

Select a section heading to play the sermon from that moment.

01
Through 10:15

Opening prayer asks God to cleanse His people and give them continuing hunger for truth and His word. The appeal asks hearers to measure their response by that biblical priority.

02
Through 20:30

Odle recalls his early faith and church prayer while introducing the question of why revivals lose spiritual vitality. This portion explicitly uses Corinthians 11 in developing that point.

03
Through 30:45

Second Corinthians 11 frames spiritual pollution as deceptive influences that corrupt devotion to Jesus. This portion explicitly uses Acts 16 and 2 Corinthians 11 in developing that point.

04
Through 41:00

Historical revival movements are discussed to show how pride, error, personalities, and untested experiences can displace the gospel. This portion explicitly uses Jeremiah 23 in developing that point.

05
Through 51:15

Odle discusses respected revival figures. The speaker argues that sincere ministry does not make every later teaching or association safe.

06
Through 1:01:30

The sermon warns against treating prophecy, supernatural vocabulary, or dramatic experiences as automatic proof of the Holy Spirit. This portion explicitly uses 1 Timothy 4 in developing that point.

07
Through 1:11:45

Biblical warnings show that even a fulfilled prediction must be rejected when it leads people away from God’s truth. This portion explicitly uses Revelation 2 in developing that point.

08
Through 1:22:00

Odle critiques teachings about guided heavenly encounters. The speaker recounts encounters with deceptive people in church settings.

09
Through 1:32:15

He argues that fascination with famous ministers can open congregations to doctrines and spirits they would otherwise question. This portion explicitly uses Matthew 24 and 2 Malachi 3 in developing that point.

10
Through 1:42:30

Malachi 3 closes the warning with God refining His people and distinguishing those who fear and serve Him. This portion explicitly uses Malachi 3 in developing that point.

This is the end your home This is my daily you're there we're lost without you

We need your presence. We need you Holy Spirit. We need you to fill us and lead us and guide us we need you to give us discernment Lord to help us figure out the counterfeit That is fully present in the churches throughout this country and Lord, we pray God you give us discernment this morning in Jesus name and everybody said amen Amen Hallelujah. Well, we welcome everybody to fire and grace church this morning. And yes if Children get a little out of hand. We have a place downstairs Where you can still hear and watch the service we understand we don't do children's church here I think we've avoided a lot of problems with that We're a little different You know There's nowhere in the Bible says you got to have a specific children's church or youth group or any of that In fact when we first started we tried the youth group thing. It was a disaster and I said never again But I want you to open your Bibles this morning we're gonna start in 2nd Corinthians You know This is probably going to be repetitive for some of you today but How is your son doing? We've been praying for him Amen. Well her son Mike we've been praying for him Mike Nichols and Praying that God will do a miracle. He was diagnosed with what was it? It was a colon cancer and it had spread to his liver. So a good report from the doctor. Amen That's good. We just keep praying everybody lift up can remember to keep praying for Mike Nichols. Amen But 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 verse 1 Let me set the stage here a little bit before we read this we're gonna read verses 1 through 4 here And I've read this many times but deception is a great problem in the body of Christ now I've been in this Pentecostal charismatic minefield. I'll call it now for 38 years and actually longer than that when I consider that my Great-grandmother and my great-aunt's took me to the first assembly of God Church of Opelika in oh Gosh, when was that when I was four five six seven years old? So I kind of had a little experience with the Pentecostal full gospel thing when I was a little

  4. 0:16:00

Little bitty guy and I knew it was real the gift of tongues. I remember hearing it the first time In that first assembly of God Church the gift of tongues and interpretation of tongues Which is equivalent to prophecy and just as a little guy sitting on about the second pew with my great-grandmother in my heart In my spirit, I knew it was real. I knew it was God Saw people get healed there And then of course later on a few years later We ended up my dad decided to go to the Baptist Church right down here Northside Baptist Church when I was about 11 So around the somewhere in that year between when I was 11 and 12 is when I was truly born again in that church and some evangelists came through and Preached a pretty powerful message and it took four of them in a row to get me To get out of the pew and give my life to the Lord then we fast-forward as I've shared when I was 19 after Falling away from God and living in sin and being completely blinded by the devil for about seven years Drinking and partying and doing drugs and all the stuff I was doing from junior high all the way into college God finally opened my eyes to what real repentance was right and I repented and turned from my sin and and totally surrendered my life to Jesus at 19 1987 and Just a little while later. I'm talking about within weeks just because I was reading the Bible I wasn't able to go to church as I've shared because I was working on Sundays. So my boss could go to church and But just from reading the Bible I saw the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues I saw that clearly I didn't have any pastor or preacher ever teach it to me I just read it from the Bible and said well Lord is what I said I said if the Apostles who spent three plus years with you in personal training and Teaching if they needed to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and have the gift of tongues Then I guess I probably need that as well and I was actually in my little room a little prayer room of where I was living at the time in Arkansas and God filled me with the Holy Spirit now I felt the Holy Spirit come upon me But I had to open my mouth and yield to speak in a language the unknown tongue That I had not learned or nobody taught me or anything But I knew I had to take a step of faith out of the boat To receive because one thing God will hand it try to hand it to you, but you've got to receive it Now I say all that to say this There's two extremes that go on right now in the body of Christ particularly in America Also in Europe but also in Africa because we everything we do it ends up going over to Africa the good and the bad Right. We are America's a Spreader of stuff, you know, and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not so good
