About this sermon

In “Sex, Lust & Judgment,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about the soulish life, biblical love, endurance. Drawing especially from Matthew 5, Romans 7, 1 Peter 2, Romans 1, the teaching emphasizes that natural emotion and self-directed reasoning must yield to the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that biblical love is demonstrated through truth, patience, sacrifice, and conduct toward others.

of sexual images and lust and things they don't start when kids become teenagers okay they start much earlier than that and now we live in a society where those images and those messages are everywhere and kids see them and kids hear about them i remember when i was in third grade people coming and talking about sexual stuff in the classroom and especially it really cranked up a notch in fourth grade but we live in a season where we have got to deal with this and and so you know where i'm going this morning because i'm going to be talking about sexual lust sex sex lust and and really um judgment day because this issue is so important this issue is going to take people down right here either you're going to overcome this or it's going to overcome you there is no other way you will be defeated by lust and sexual sin or you will defeat it and it is a battle that many men and women of god have had to fight with everything in them but there's a whole segment of christianity today that has given up the fight and given into their lust and given into to living in it and have made excuses and theological doctrines so that they don't have to fight this fight and win it we're going to look at that today i want you to turn with me though first i want us to go first to the book of second timothy and let's go to second timothy chapter three this is something that i share when i go out witnessing on the street or on the campus especially when i'm talking to men now this lust is not just a problem for men okay more so maybe than others but i want to read this right here uh this this is uh second timothy chapter three we're gonna start at verse one and read down a few verses here let's let's read this know also that in the last days perilous times shall come for men shall be lovers of their own selves covetous boasters proud blasphemers disobedient to parents unthankful unholy without natural affection truce breakers false accusers incontinent and y'all underline that one we'll talk about that in a second incontinent fierce despisers of those that are good traitors heady high-minded lovers of pleasures more than lovers of god having a form of godliness but denying

the power thereof from such turn away for of this sort are they which creep into houses and lead captive silly women laden with sins and led away with divers lust ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth now this is specifically a message from paul that the holy spirit spoke to him about the last days and he said in the last days it would be dangerous times perilous okay he said as it would be and really it just shows us he said it's going to be difficult times in the last days because we are bombarded we are bombarded by the sexual images around us all the time we are bombarded by the demon spirits and the rise of the occult activity in the world the spirit of antichrist is creeping over and taking over the world and it says that literally it talks about in daniel that the spirit of antichrist wearing out the saints and you know we've talked about that before about the wearing down of the mind but the battle is in the mind but i want you to see this he said one of the things that would happen to these people in the end times would that they would be incontinent now that word incontinent there in the greek means to be powerless to have no self-control whatsoever okay now you can check me out later i didn't look up and put down all these definitions in the powerpoint but it that's what it means to be powerless to have no self-control whatsoever literally the webster's dictionary defines this word incontinent as a person who is unable to control himself sexually control the mind control the actions and this is so so very serious so he said that people would just throw off self-control but here's what's interesting in talking about these people he said these people that would be incontinent unable to have any self-control that they would be lovers of pleasures more than lovers of god didn't say they wouldn't love god you hear me says they would be lovers of pleasure more than they love god this is talking about christians and i can prove this because what does he say he says they have a form of godliness they have an outward appearance of christianity because the only thing paul would call godliness you guys is christianity there is no godliness or cl cleansing or anything else in any other religion so paul says they have a form of christianity they talk about jesus they go to church they sing in the choir but they can't keep from creeping into houses and committing sexual sin now specifically of course here this talks about men creeping into houses but guess what it takes two to tango doesn't it right takes two to tango so he says that they

would have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof now the power of course here's the greek word dutimus which means god's miraculous power his supernatural power can i just say that you're going to need every ounce of fight that's in you and every ounce of god's grace and help that you can get to overcome this battle now everybody knows i'm telling the truth here amen and then he goes on to say and this is what ought to be scary he said they leave these they go into these houses they creep at least it literally means they sneak around they sneak into these houses and they find silly or foolish women that are laid down that means just full of sin led away with divers lust but listen to this it says ever learning well they read their bibles they hear sermons ever learning but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth let me just tell you a little bit about why i'm on this today see this past week i got a text from someone i won't name the name but i got a text from someone a good christian who's saying that they they have this this friend or this acquaintance whose children um or i guess one of them are they're they're living with their girlfriend and this christian woman is saying that she's come to the realization that because jesus has forgiven our sins past present and future that they're okay to live together in fornication and sexual sin and that's what they've come to believe they've come to believe that they can believe in jesus have a form of godliness go to church sing in the choir but but because they have this false belief that sins are somehow automatically forgiven whether you confess and repent or not they've got this idea that they're once saved always saved no matter how they live so they've they've embraced this they've they're ever learning they're learning learning the errors of calvinism they're learning the eras of of you know baptist men or presbyterian theology they're learning these things but never able to really come to the knowledge of the truth because guess what the bible says jesus said if you continue in my word you will know the truth and the truth will make you free you see what i'm saying if you're moving into the truth you will be overcoming sexual sin and temptation and love i'm not saying you'll be perfect but you'll be overcoming it you won't be indulging it you won't be making excuses for you won't be creating doctrines and theologies that make it okay for you to live in those things but we are the church world is full full of these people who make excuses and the parents of some of these people are scared to tell them the truth
