  1. god that you are holy set apart and different from us or your ways are not our ways your thoughts are not our thoughts you are high and lifted up lord your wisdom is beyond measure lord your understanding your counsel your the depth god of your knowledge lord beyond anything we can fathom lord now we ask you to just continue to fill us when paul prayed a prayer for the ephesians he said he prayed that they would be filled with the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of you so that they would know the hope of your calling lord they prayed he prayed for the colossians that they would be filled with the knowledge of your will god we just want to be filled with wisdom and knowledge we want to be filled with the knowledge of your will god individually corporately as a church now we want to honor you in everything we do we want to preach the truth we want to stand for it we want to be a light and a witness god help us win people around us to the lordship of jesus christ not just to believe in jesus but to submit to the lordship of jesus christ and be saved use us lord i pray in jesus name amen amen yeah that felt good hallelujah it is good to worship the lord praise be to god well does everyone have their bibles this morning i sure hope so y'all ready for part two of rebellion you know before i go into this you know i i want to share this um i don't know if i shared it last week but in the last few weeks before you know kind of before we got into this thing god was started dealing with me about this subject and actually he has for some time because um i know how important it is to understand spiritual authority both god's direct authority and god's delegated authority and of course within the church world there's always a tendency to get in either side of the ditch when it comes to any issue in the kingdom how many of you know that we've seen you know god's promises of prosperity are in the bible you know if you do certain things if you give if you sow if you obey when god promises to bless right but how many of us have seen that taken to a bad extreme in the church world i mean we've seen it on tv preachers that are just about

  2. money and it's all about you know give this now let's give this thousand dollars so you can have the anointing i have that's a bunch of junk right there okay so just but just because somebody has taken something to an extreme or abused a certain truth or taking it too far and now it's an error does not mean we negate the truth you know on on giving we should still tithe we should still give offerings we should still do the things that god says to do well that's the same thing about this spiritual authority issue there was a movement in the 1970s called discipleship i happen to know and actually work with later in the 90s one of the men who was involved in that so i got to hear how they got into it and how they got off okay and it got so bad it was called either the shepherding movement or the discipleship movement um some some very good men got involved in it uh bob mumford a guy named uh a guy named derek prince that you all need to be i'm sure you're familiar with and derek prince you know once he realized that this thing got off got over in the ditch a little bit he got out of that and and all of them ended up getting out of it but what i'm saying is just because those men took it too far and started telling people you know they had spiritual authority to the point that you had to submit if you were going to go buy a car if you were going to go on a vacation and all kinds of stuff i mean it got to be very very controlling but then what happened in the church world instead of keeping balance and just bringing coming back to the middle a little bit the church world especially the charismatics and pentecostals just threw off and said well because because spiritual leadership became abusive and controlling therefore now we just throw it off all and you know we all can hear the holy spirit for ourselves and we don't need to listen to our any spiritual leaders and so we got into the other side of the ditch all right and that's why it's important to get teaching and to understand what the bible has to say about this because just because you don't like something in the bible doesn't mean you throw it out and and make up your own right the authority issue about being submitted to spiritual authority both god's direct authority and both authorities that god has placed on the earth is a serious matter with god and he has a lot to say about it in the bible we can't just chunk that out right so that's why it's important that we get a balanced view of this and understand it because i have seen people's lives shipwrecked in either direction all right i've been around this charismatic pentecostal movement now for 25 years and actually

  3. longer than that considering the time i go back when i my great aunts and my great-grandmother took me to first assembly of god when i was a little kid for many years way back in the 70s so i've been around the spirit-filled movement a long time and i've seen stuff come and go all right i've seen good stuff come and go i've seen bad stuff come and go so let's just get in the word about this i want to review a little bit from last week i want you to turn to romans chapter 13. and what blessed me last week after uh i preached this is is several people came up to me and told me how different aspects of this they were dealing with it and how it helped them so this is a pretty exhaustive subject so uh maybe we can get through it in just two messages hebrew what'd i say i said romans didn't know i got romans 13 and hebrews 13. that's kind of should be kind of easy to remember there romans 13 let me get there and hebrews 13. now when i speak about god's delegated authorities let me explain what i mean before we read this god's delegated authorities are in what he calls and what we're going to read here is all authority is by god given by god they stand in a place ordained in office ordained by god even if they're evil now this is hard for us to accept but no one gets in a position of authority without god and without god knowing it and either allowing it or having a purpose for it i shared this last week about how god raised up moses and he's i mean pharaoh he said i raised up pharaoh for this very purpose and pharaoh was an evil authority but god said i raised him up to show my power so god will even use evil authorities and we'll talk about why you know we even have to obey even some evil authority sometimes not that if they tell us to do evil but if they give us a law like you know our government has problems everybody knows that but there's certain laws i mean we should listen to like the speeding and the seat belt and all these other things are for our protection and this is what god's talking about but the authorities i'm talking about they're civil authorities there's government authorities then there's authorities in the school children should listen to their teachers there's authority in the home the wife is supposed to be submitted to the authority of the husband and the children to the their mother and dad then there's spiritual authority in the church there's being submitted to your pastor and then there's pastors being submitted to other fivefold ministries nobody is exempt from this and if you think for one second because you can hear the holy spirit for yourself and every believer should i teach that but if you get the idea that

  4. i'm an island to myself and i don't have to listen to anybody and i'm not accountable to anybody you will be deceived because you're breaking a principle in the word of god okay let's read this though in romans 13. um romans 13 verse 1 he says let every soul be subject unto the higher powers and the word powers there in the greek is the greek word exusia which means authorities some of your bibles may be translated authorities it says let every soul be subject submissive and that means submissive and obedient to higher authorities for there is no power or authority but of god and the powers or authority that be are ordained of god do you see that let every soul be submissive and obedient unto higher authorities for there is no power but of god no authority but of god and the powers that be are ordained of god and then he goes on to talk about he's going to get into a little bit even civil authority and you have to remember who's he writing this to the romans the whole world at this time known world was subject to roman authority and here's what's interesting jesus told them render unto caesar what is caesar's right peter even said if you go into peter's books honor the king who is the king caesar you see what i'm saying rome was evil yet they were in authority and what does he tell them obey those authorities respect those authorities there's reason why they're where they are and guess what guess whose job it is to deal with authority when they get out of hand gods and as you'll see in a minute we'll talk about this but it's never the people under authority's job to deal with authority god will deal with it and he'll deal with it pretty severely because he put him there all right let's look at this he goes on to say he says whosoever therefore this is verse 2 whosoever therefore resists the power or the authority resist the ordinance of god and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation see it is a serious thing to commit and live in the sin of rebellion it is the highest of satanic principles to be a rebel do you hear what i'm saying i said this last week when i say it again satan was not cast out of heaven because he was a fornicator or an adulterer or a drunkard or because he blasphemed he was thrown out of heaven because he said these words i will exalt my throne my authority above

  5. the throne of god and the moment he violated god's authority he was thrown out of heaven what caused lucifer to violate god's authority or think he was going to lift himself up against it his pride exactly the bible tells us exactly what happens what is pride pride is when you start thinking too highly of yourself than you ought to think pride let me give you an example of pride you've been saved three years and all of a sudden you think that you know more than a pastor that's been saved and teaching and preaching that's been doing it for 25 years or 30 years or 40 years you see what i'm saying when i call my elders for advice and counsel here's the thing i know i don't know more than them i might not always agree with them but one thing's for sure i have not been through more than they've been through some of them have pastored and been in the fivefold ministry longer than i've been alive i think they might know a little something right one of them could is my dad's age could be my dad you get my point it's not always about agreeing but it's always about recognizing is the anointing is the call of god is the wisdom of god in that person all right now i know i'm i'm probably getting off here but i want you to say did i just read that it says they received themselves damnation see i'm going to read that verse again whosoever resists you know what that word means fights against comes again speaks against whatever you want to put fights against the authority fights against the ordinance of god and they that resist our fight shall receive damnation why the spirit of rebellion has torn up more churches and more homes and more children it has caused more devastation and destruction than any other satanic plot it is a serious matter marriages are torn up because wives will not submit to their husbands they get resentful and bitter the husband is not feeling respected the wife is not feeling love then there's a rebellion a divorce whoever gets it is a rebellion it's a rebellion against god's authority and if it's if it's the wife not having a reason and she goes and gets a divorce

  6. it is a rebellion to that husband's authority it is a rebellion to the covenant children when you disobey your parents and and don't obey your parents with a with a sweet and good heart you are acting like satan and what's going to happen is if you keep doing that the judgment of god will eventually fall on you how many teenagers have i seen over the years rebel against their teachers rebel against their parents rebel against authority rebel against the law and they are dead in the grave and in hell right now that's why one of the promises he says about honoring your father and mother children obey your parents in the lord is one of the first he says the first promises of with the first law or commandment with a promise and he says his children obey your appearance in the lord that your life may be long on the earth meaning if you're a rebel you're gonna suffer punishment and maybe even get yourself killed before the time this is how serious this issue is divorce destruction death churches divided over this simple issue of not respecting and submitting to and obeying authority that god has placed in the church in the home in the school and in civil society that's why god says rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft that's the way he looks at it and we all know that he hates witchcraft right all right let's keep on now he goes on and just to let you know he says for rulers this is verse 3 in romans 13 he said for rulers are not a terror to good works but to the evil wilt thou then not be afraid of the power of the authority do that which is good and you will have praise of the same for he is the minister of god to thee for good but if thou do that which is evil be afraid for he bears not the sword in vain for he is the minister of god a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil wherefore we might you must needs be subject not only for wrath but also for conscience sake so he's saying hey the authorities that god set up they are not there to punish the good now some end up going evil in doing that and god will deal with them he will bring them down he has brought down great nations egypt babylon persia greece he will bring down the nation and i'll say this right now after my studying

  7. of what's going on in the muslim world toward christians and even their own people the killing of of children women and children the beating and the raping of women and children that goes on within the muslim world like it's like everything's okay with that let me tell you what's about to happen the the nuclear war that's coming in the middle east is no accident it will be god's judgment on those evil nations like iran and syria that are just spilling blood in in the streets and on the ground right now and rejecting god's authority and going against going against nature and just going against the very conscience that god put within all of us and you trust me when israel launches those nuclear weapons and they will it will be god's judgment on evil that i can't even express to you here god always uses he'll use one nation to judge another nation he's going to judge us too that's what's scary for our rebellion and our sins some pretty serious stuff isn't it so does everybody see that in the bible let every soul be subject to the authorities did i write that all authorities are of god right now there is just authority and there is unjust authority but now i want you to turn we're going to read this verse again because it seems to get ignored or you know reviled a bit but hebrews chapter 13. we can't throw these out of the bible hallelujah somebody say hallelujah say this with me i'm gonna get myself in order we'll get my home in order i'm gonna get myself an order at work i'm gonna get myself an order at school all right i'm gonna get myself an order at church hey all right all right hebrews 13 verse 17. all right says obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves for they watch for your souls as they must give an account that they may do it with joy and not with grief for that is unprofitable for you well it's pretty clear in it boy that implicates a whole lot of things what does that implicate there are people in the spirit in the spiritual realm in the church

  8. that have rule over you that you should submit to that you should listen to all right they're watching out for your souls now granted are there preachers that don't watch out for your souls yes are there bad ones right that's why god has given each of us the choice of who we submit our spiritual lives to he wants us to find that church and that pastor and those leaders to submit to but hey if it's if it's bad then find one right but once you find one once you find one be faithful right and most all of you have i'm not i'm not jumping on anybody but this is a principle you don't understand because it it just it permeates this is this is like a i don't know it's like a a a web it just permeates everything work school home church government it's everywhere [Music] and god's watching every bit of it right but obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves because they're watching for your souls now what happens here what happens to start disturbing this this flow here and what i was going to call you know i said this is part two of last week and it is but i want to talk about the the part here of reviling authority and offense because as i studied this out and as i read i was rereading watchmen spiritual authority what i noticed is that usually sometimes it's pride that causes speaking against authorities that god puts there because you start thinking you know better you know more and guess what here's what's amazing is you might even be right but it's how you go about it too that's why it talks about don't don't rebuke an elder but entreat him as a father be careful how even how you approach them because if you approach them harshly even if you're right you're not gonna get the answer you want right this is what a lot of people don't realize it's always not what you do but how you do it right amen all right let's keep going i want you to turn over it with me let's go we went on this last week but i want to get dig some stuff out of it here but go to back to the book of numbers here man i hope i can get through all of this today book of numbers way back some people don't like the old testament but i got news for them the bible says all scripture is given by inspiration of god and is profitable for doctrine reproof and instruction in righteousness so we can use the whole book and it's interesting most of the new testament uses the old testament to

  9. preach its principles am i right all right i've never understood we don't listen to the old testament when it's all in the new testament you know many scriptures matter of fact even these stories that i'm talking about here but numbers 12 what does the word reviling mean reviling that's right speaking bad against speaking negatively speaking critically it can even mean speaking abusively to criticize with abusive language but anyway i want to show you this because these two stories and some of these things we're going to look at when you see how simple some of the offenses were see sometimes you say the word offense you think it's something big it's usually not something big that causes an offense but once there is an offense and especially with leadership if you get offended with someone in leadership then we think because well maybe they did something wrong or they said something wrong or we saw their imperfection or their their mistake all of a sudden we think we're justified to come against that authority and the gods god's looking at god matter of fact god will let authorities that he is anointed and placed in positions he will let them make a mistake sometimes to test those under authority to see how they will react because if somebody's really has a seat of rebellion in them the moment they see a flaw i mean this is why a lot of wives rebel against their husband they've seen their husbands flaws they've seen their husband's mistake and they think well i can do it better he doesn't know what he's doing he keeps making mistakes and they try to become the head of the house and what you have is a rebellion going on when that happens it may sound justified but god still looks at it as witchcraft and that's why there's so much turmoil and heaviness and depression and oppression in the home you know and i have to say my wife's one of the best that i've ever seen at not rebelling against me but she's not perfect at it give you a little example and this is just this is just an example to help this is what this wasn't a big thing but she you know she's doing some repenting not just to me but to some people in her life about you know she's realizing i'm really this morning we repented over a leader we said something about just privately but still repented over that because we shouldn't have said it but yesterday right i'm i'm up we're up in i'm up in the attic handing down faith's bed to her and i said just set it up against the car and let me hand down this other one she decides to carry in the other mattress and i'm sitting there about to drop the thing because she disappeared i'm like where where are you

  10. and and so i'm about to fall out of the attic because it's about to yank me down the stairs because i was handing it down and she's gone and so i'm like hey where are you i barely had it by my fingertips too and i'm like where and so we i got down and she goes you're yelling at me i said no i needed you i was about to drop this out of the attic and and said and so we were coming in she goes well i just wanted to take it in i said but that's not what i said i said set it up against the car i said i'm standing in an attic it's 120 degrees in here i don't want to stand in here waiting on you to carry it in the house i said i don't i said i said i can't believe i'm saying this because it's something my dad used to say i said but i said i don't talk just to hear myself talk you know but she was she nodded her head and she was like you know that's right you know and say why it's important i mean that's a little thing but a little thing how many times is it at work how many times even at church is it just a little thing that ends up being a huge problem and that's what i'll show you this this there were some very little things here that got people offended and it got them offended at people who were in authority over them and it caught it almost caused it caused some huge problems even with jesus now think about that even with jesus and he was perfect perfect leader who never sinned and they still attacked him i find that hard it's hard to comprehend it but let's let's read this we read this last week but i'm gonna read again numbers 12. i want you to see how small a thing can start a big fire all right and miriam and aaron spoke against moses because of the ethiopian woman whom he had married this is numbers 12 1. so they spoke against him concerning the ethiopian woman that he had married for he'd married an ethiopian they said has the lord indeed spoken only by moses and has he not spoken also by us and the lord heard it see this first thing they tried to find a fault in moses oh he married an ethiopian woman jews aren't supposed to marry gentiles but it's funny when god called him to egypt like i said last week when god called him to egypt to go get the children of israel out of egypt he was already married to the ethiopian woman so god already had a didn't have a problem with it but they couldn't really find fault in moses because he was pretty humble at this point it's what 40 years in the desert will do to you right and he's pretty humble but they had they found fault they found a fault and they thought that oh well we hear god too so that gives us a right

  11. to speak against moses and to come against his authority in the situation well listen what happened he says the lord heard it and boy does he hear everything verse three now the man moses was very meek above all men that were upon the face of the earth and the lord spake suddenly unto moses and aaron and miriam coming ye three out to the tabernacle of the congregation and the three came out and the lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle and called aaron and miriam and they came forth and he said now hear my words if there be a prophet among you i the lord will make myself known unto him in a vision i will speak unto him in a dream but my servant moses is not so who is faithful in all my house with him will i speak mouth to mouth even apparently and not in dark speeches in the in and the similitude of the lord shall he behold wherefore or why were you not afraid to speak against my servant moses and the anger of the lord was kindled against them and he departed and the cloud departed from off the tabernacle and miriam became leprous boy there's a whole lot in this right here first of all what did the lord say when he corrected this problem he didn't deny that he spoke to aaron and miriam but he said even though i speak to y'all i speak to moses in a different way this is something that it's hard for people to get a hold of god put apostles and prophets and evangelists and pastors and teachers and then ordains elders and deacons and he has an order that they go in but god does that that's his business and he says what right to be submitted to that i didn't make up these rules and i think far too often see here's the thing what was what was one of the problems here aaron and miriam were moses brother and sister even though they knew and had recognized the call of god on moses once they found fault in him well you know god speaks to us too so boy have you ever heard this i'm hearing it i'm hearing it from pastors i nancy has a pastor friend of hers actually she was attended his church over it was hilarious he even said when she she posted something about watchman's spiritual authority or something about this and he was like he's like i am sick of people telling me that they hear the holy spirit for themselves and they don't need to they don't need to listen to it or be accountable to anybody he goes i even have to be accountable to people i have because i'm tired of it because what was he talking about as a

  12. pastor he has seen just like i have seen people say hey i got this i don't need you anymore and what happens i've watched their lives slowly go down this hill and it and that's why god sets this order up right now let's keep going so that's the story there now i want you i want you to see before we go to we'll we will look at cora in a second but i want you to go go to um luke chapter four you all okay this morning we're still doing good on time it's not even 12. a little teaching this morning backing up reviewing now we're moving forward luke chapter four i'll show you something with uh even with jesus what happened did you know you can recognize the anointing on somebody and still rebel against them i've never quite figured that one out you can recognize the anointing and rebel against them and god's not happy about it jesus starts his ministry in the synagogue in his hometown i'll get there in a second i'm thinking while i'm turning and i don't pay attention to where i'm turning so jesus comes out of the wilderness let's just read from verse one it says jesus being full of the holy ghost returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit of the wilderness and there he was tempted 40 days of the devil and then he comes out let's see let's go down to verse 14 and jesus returned out of the wilderness he returned in the power of the spirit into galilee and they went out of fame through all the region and he taught in their synagogues being glorified of all now jesus goes home to nazareth and when he'd come to nazareth where he had been brought up and as his custom was he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up for to read and there was delivered unto him a book of the prophet isaiah and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written the spirit of the lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and the recovering of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are bruised and to preach the acceptable year of the lord and he closed the book and he gave it again to the minister and sat down and all in the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him now you have to remember it just said jesus came out of the wilderness he came out of the wilderness into galilee he started doing miracles but then he

  13. goes home to nazareth and he goes into the temple just like every other sabbath and he goes in there as his custom was and he goes in there and he reads this but this time it's different see before jesus as he was growing up as he was growing up he would we know it says as his custom was meaning he's done this many times before but this time he stands up with the anointing and the power of the spirit and everybody in there can feel it it says all the eyes there were fastened on him and then it says this it says he began to say unto them today this scripture is fulfilled in your ears and all bear him witness and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth now let's stop right there the word gracious in the greek is the word charisma meaning they all bear witness to the anointing of the holy ghost flowing out of his mouth when he spoke these words something was different about jesus today why because he had been to submit you know here's a beautiful picture jesus even submitted to the ministry of john the baptist and when he came up out of the water the holy ghost came on him then the holy ghost drove him into the wilderness to fast and pray and to resist the devil's temptation but jesus comes out he submitted to god's authority he submitted to the ministry of john the baptist a man's authority jesus is fully walking under god's direct authority god's delegated authority he comes into nazareth full of the holy ghost stands up like he has many times except this time he is standing in the office of the apostle of the prophet of the evangelist of the teacher the high priest he's standing fully in the office and call of god and the anointing is there flowing through him and the people recognize it they discern it they feel it they know something's different but then they get offended why are they offended is this not [Music] joseph's son see this right here they started looking at him in the natural instead of looking at the office and the power in which he was standing don't we do this to every authority figure just about in our lives see they couldn't find a sin in him but he's he this is just joseph's son he's full he grew up here we watched him be a little boy and play in the street what's this on him now no no no

  14. and it says is this is not this joseph's son and then he said unto them now look what happens here he said them you will surely say unto me this proverb physician heal yourself whatsoever we have heard done in capernaum do also here in your country he said i say verily i say unto you no prophet is accepted in his own country but i tell you of a truth many widows were in israel in the days of elijah when the heaven was shut up three years in six months when great famine was throughout all the land but unto none of them was elijah sent but unto sarepa a city of sidon and a woman that was a widow and many lepers were in israel in the time of elisha the prophet and none of them were cleansed saving david the syrian so here jesus simply gives it listen y'all got to listen to this jesus preaches the word to them now the story of elijah oliver knew the story of elisha all of them knew and all jesus pointed out was the word of god but guess what it was the one part of the word of god they didn't want to hear they didn't want to hear that jesus said hey people are going to get healed people are going to get miracles and guess what some of you jews are going to miss out just like in the days of elijah just like in the days of elisha they were sent to gentiles some of you are going to miss this he was telling him ahead of time so now the people who just recognized the anointing on him the moment he told him something they didn't want to hear what happened next when they heard it says verse 28 and all they in the synagogue when they heard these things were filled with wrath rose up and thrust him out of the city led him unto the brow of a hill where the city was built that they might cast him down headlong but he passing through the midst of them went his way do you see that the same people that just recognize the anointing and the power when he preached something they didn't like and said something they didn't like they tried to kill him boy is this any different are we any different no i cannot tell you how many times over the years of pastoring pastor that i feel the anointing and power of god on you when you preach i feel the anointing and power of god when i come to church you preach the truth it's awesome it's awesome it's awesome i love it i love it i love it until it doesn't agree with something they want to do or something in their lives

  15. and then all of a sudden i go from being the best thing sent sliced bread to being a devil and i just marvel i marvel at it but why does god allow these things to happen why did that happen in nazareth to expose their pride their sin their rebellion just recognizing the anointing on somebody and the power and the authority what were they supposed to recognize what was jesus telling them that day you know what he read and said this day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears he was saying i am the messiah the sent one i am him that they all knew that was a messianic scripture and he said it and he said this day this is fulfilled in your ears so jesus said i am the messiah basically saying i am the king of the jews i am the promised one i am the one who will rule the nations with the right of i am in authority and they were like wow the power of god is in church this morning and then he started talking about how this was going to be for the gentiles too whoa the religion started coming up what we jews we're jews we're special that ain't going to the gentiles what are you talking about and they tried to kill jesus think about that his home church you know what that's like bill you tell them what they don't want to hear and they tried to destroy you somebody ought to say it's good preaching now i want to show you see that is quite funny man we're getting a little a little rain here go with me to matthew 13. i want you to see this the connection here well i tell you i feel the anointing here today matthew 13. this is when jesus went later he went back to nazareth after some i don't know how long a period it was it may have been a year two years you know his ministry was over three years long but he ends up going back to nazareth another time but i'll tell you that's a bold man right

  16. now you know can you imagine some of the designs going uh question lord um didn't they try to kill you there last time we were we went to priests no gotta go back bill there you go there's one for you all right matthew 13. and i pick you know most people read the the passage of this particular passage in mark but i found it interesting what it said in matthew 13. let's go down um it's toward the end of the chapter verse 53. everybody with me verse 53 all right and it says and it came to pass that when jesus had finished these parables that he departed this and when he was coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue in so much that they were astonished again they were astonished and they said let's have this man this wisdom and these mighty works is this not the carpenter's son is not this his mother called mary and his brother and james and and joseph and simon and judas and his sisters and are they not all with us when it's happy the then this these things where do you get these things for we know his family again they're they they get focused on where he came from and look what verse 57 says and they were offended in him over something so simple but look what the offense stopped and they were offended in him but jesus said unto them a prophet is not without honor saving his own country and in his own house and he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief their rebellion their resistance their offense at his looking at him in the natural instead of looking at the call and authority of god on his life caused them to miss what god wanted to do with them how many people what have i seen god give me words over that i know what god wants to do some great things with them but they get offended they get rebellious they get reviling and then they're gone and they're messed up see listen to me closely pride rebellion reviling either you root those things out of your life or they destroy you

  17. your spiritual life and you miss the call and the plan of god on your life you miss many miracles you would have nazareth didn't get the miracles jesus wanted to do mighty things in his hometown guess what there's always a special feeling that you have for your hometown always i grew up here i i'm amazed that god sent me back here after all those years there's always been a special thing in my heart for here but do you know my first message here how many of you some of you were in that first meeting my first message here was from first corinthians 16 verse 9. behold there is an open door paul talked to the greek said there's a great ineffectual door open unto me but there are many adversaries that was my first message here tell me that wasn't prophetic okay i had even my one of my best friends turn against me since being here i mean a man that i went to school with from from junior high on even in college a man that i helped start his first church a man that i had discipled completely turn against me and you know what it was easy moral issue he took the wrong side and i wasn't budging from the right side but then what does he do go all over town slander in me so yeah there's been an open door here god's done wonderful things but i can tell you this that i feel like one of the reasons we i've see we've seen some people healed saw a lady healed at work i've shared that with we've seen some miracles but i think one of the reasons that our this church has not seen even near the miracles that my church in montgomery saw in the same amount of time because of this offense and this this resistance you know it's no coincidence that not one of my old friends that i went to high school with that i grew up with not one of them has come to this church now y'all met joel but i didn't really grow up with joel we were just kind of he was much older and we were just acquaintances kind of had the same friend but the guys that were in my class that still live here not one of them has even visited

  18. and see it would be the opposite with me because if one of them was preaching somewhere or pastoring somewhere i want to go i like man i want to hear i want to hear what god's doing in there i just don't understand the concepts but it's this is this is this offense issue and it in the offenses come over stuff so so simple now i'm going to share something i shared wednesday night everybody go to john chapter 12. john chapter 12. the reason that this has to be dealt with in a church is because it'll spread like a plague john 12. and again this was an attack on jesus right here still hard to fathom everybody with me this is why listen what we're about to read listen closely to me this is why you need to be very very very careful about what you say to each other particularly about whoever's leaders in your life because what happens is once you start speaking it like first the way i'll say this first if you have a problem with me okay if you think i'm doing something wrong or i said something wrong or i hurt you or i offended you in some way or you know it may just be a misunderstanding or you know i'm not perfect i may have said something i shouldn't have said i do that i do sometimes all right nobody perfect in this world i've done it come to me and tell me because the moment you don't come to me and tell me that you're offended or that i offended you and you start talking to other people then people who were not offended will pick up your offense and get offended and then a lot of damage gets done in the body of christ well i mean i've seen i've seen this you you think look our little church i've seen this eat up and destroy big churches big churches that were like in the thousands that don't exist now because of this all right because one thing i can guarantee you i or nancy will offend you at some point that's a fact wives your husband will offend you husbands your wives will offend you children your parents will offend you

  19. children you offend your parents quite often right and it can be just simple sometimes simple things but look at this everybody with me john 12 i'm going to try to hurry through this right here don't let the cancer spread by the mouth and matter of fact this is a good little exhortation before i read this if you know you're you got your ill at somebody you got an offense or you got something that's hurt your feelings or you're angry or whatever at somebody you need to talk to them already there's a situation this morning somebody's offended not here somebody's offended though they're running their mouth and it spread now to another group of people and i am going to address it but this is why this is this this will give you the picture it'll show you then jesus look at verse 1 john 12 then jesus now notice the words underlining them jesus six days before the passover where how many days six days everybody pay attention then jesus six days before the passover came to bethany where lazarus was that which had been dead whom he raised from the dead and they made him a supper and martha served but lazarus was one of them at that sat at the table with him then took mary a pound of ointment of spikenard very costly and anointed the feet of jesus and wiped his hair uh wiped her his feet rather with her hair and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment then saith one of his disciples everybody say one one of his disciples judas iscariot simon's son which should betray him ask this question why was not this ointment sold for 300 pence and given to the poor doesn't that sound religious right sounds religious sounds good see this is what this is what's dangerous rebellion and reviling authority can be hidden it can be masked in religion it can be you know oh did you know you're talking about did you know the pastor said such and such to me you know we should pray for him don't mask that i mean that's rolling up some dog poo in a taco shell don't feed me that amen and that's what judas just did right here i figured y'all like that one all right let's keep going

  20. so one of his disciples said why was this ointment not sold for 300 pence and given to the poor now remember john wrote this many years later when he wrote the gospel of john and he added he knew why he said this he said not because he cared for the poor but because he was a thief and had the bag and bear that was therein so here's the thing judas's motive for saying this was selfish he had a selfish mother he wanted jesus to put more money in the bag so he could siphon some off he had a selfish motive but he masked his selfish motive in religious talk but what it really was was an attack upon the authority of jesus for letting this woman do this it was all mass in religion and jesus exposed it when he said this he just rebuked him verse 7 then said jesus leave her alone against the day of my bearing she has kept this for the poor always you have with you but me you have not always so jesus rebukes them right now go to matthew 26 everybody say six days that was six days one of his disciples it was mary anointed what his feet right i remember when i saw this years ago it blew my mind matthew 26. four days later all right let's read this matthew 26 everybody there let's read verse one and it came to pass when jesus had finished all these things he said in disciples you know that after two days is the feast of passover and the son of man is betrayed to be crucified wait a minute now now what we just read that happened in mary and martha and lazarus house they said was six days before the passover this jesus said two days before the passover so four days later jesus is still hanging out in the town of bethany he goes to somebody else's house still in the town of bethany let's go down verse six now when jesus was was in bethany in the house of simon the leper there came unto him a woman having an alabaster box a very precious ointment and poured it on his head wait a minute four days earlier it was mary poured it on his what what do we have here two separate issues two separate incidents a lot of people have always thought that this was the same thing the same incident it's not

  21. let's keep reading and it says that she poured the alabaster box a very precious ointment poured it on his head and as he said it me but when his disciples saw it they had indignation and said to what purpose is this waste for this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor in four days judas's negative reviling of authority masculine religion had spread to all the other disciples four days that's all it took boy this and think about this these were men who loved jesus these weren't bad people these were good people given in to resistance and rebellion and reviling of authority and you want me to tell you where all this roots from if you have a preacher that preaches righteousness and holiness and commitment to god and faithfulness and purity if you've got a preacher that preaches like this nine times out of ten i'm going to tell you the problem roots up from an idol in your heart sooner or later if you're in a church like that and you carry an idol in your something you want real bad sometimes more than you want to obey god sooner or later that thing is going to be pushed to the surface because the holy ghost is in the business of exposing and pushing things up that we bury and hide because he wants to get set us free from them sometimes stuff is hidden even to us we deceive ourselves we or we don't realize that it's in there pride rebellion stubbornness or something we want and god's wants to push it up push it up that's why i tell people all the time you sit in a church like this and we're not the only one david wilkerson preached like that he preached stronger than i preached leonard ravenhill preached stronger than i pray preach stronger preach better than i preach but they were the same way if you had a hidden idol or a hidden sin sooner or later it was going to look you in the face and you either deal with it or you start hating the messenger all right why do you think the israelites god's

  22. chosen people killed so many prophets and god sent them we don't want to hear it not anymore no one here i'm gonna give you one more one more passage did y'all see that jesus rebuked him again you know it was around the same time they got to you know two days later you know what they were doing right at right before they ate the final passover meal with jesus you know what they were doing arguing amongst themselves who would be the greatest i ain't gonna be you peter it's me i can you imagine jesus he comes up what were y'all talking about he knew what they're talking about he just wanted them to say it what are y'all talking about oh they shut up it's amazing where the human [Music] heart and psyche can go even the people that love jesus now let's go go with me to proverbs this will be our last scripture maybe proverbs 18. i found this very interesting proverbs 18 everybody i'm i hear pages still turn i want you to see it for yourselves we'll give you a hebrew definition though if you're writing it down i'll go slow cause i just didn't have time to put this on a powerpoint because i wasn't really sure i was going to do this today all right proverbs 18 verse 19. it says this a brother offended is harder to be one than a strong city and their contentions are like the bars of a castle a brother offended let me give you the definition of the hebrew word here offended y'all ready it's the hebrew strong dictionary hebrew dictionary number 6586 the pronunciation of the word is pasha p a h pasha here's what it is defined as all right it says it is a primitive root through gives the idea of expansion but it means to break away from just authority isn't that interesting to break away from just authority that is to trespass apostasize quarrel a thin rebel revolt

  23. transgress i'm gonna back up i know i went fast offended here's the hebrew word pasha it means to break away from just authority that is a direct quote from the strongs to break away from just authority that is to trespass what is trespassing anyway there's a sign up says don't trespass here don't come on this property and you go i don't care i'm going on the property right that's trespassing a disregard for the rules right apostasize i think it's interesting because offense will always make you fall away from god you get offended with a leader you get you get offended with a fellow church member you are going to fall away why because god begins to draw back his hand from you and if god doesn't help you live the christian life you won't live the christian life you can't without god's grace and help so if you become prideful and he has to fight against you and pull his hand back you're going to find out that yeah you might hear from god you might be anointed you might be gifted you might be called but what happens is god goes and take my hand off now let's find out how you do with your gifts and your hearing and everything else by yourself dangerous time because deception will set in y'all look at me offense will always open the door to deceiving spirits and let me say i have learned this the hard way you hear me i've learned this the hard way because i've done it but once a deceiving spirit takes root on you one thing i've learned about them they're smarter than you are smarter than i am these spirits have been around a long time but they know how to sound just like the voice of god and some of the scariest lessons god has taught me is when he's pulled his hand back from me that either i was offended or i was rebelling against authority or i was i had an issue i was dealing with and god pulled his hand back and i thought i was still hearing and i was sure i heard god and god let me mess up royally and not make me realize

  24. boy i thought i heard god and i blew it to pieces and i will tell you what that did it so humbled me and so broke me and several times when i was a young man it's so i was like man i'm going to be careful about this hearing god thing it's not easy and so that is why too when you're in those situations whether it be you got an offense or or a sin that's a pride or something that's there and a leader is there to try to recognize that and get you to deal with it before you get deceived that's why god puts us in those places sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees and somebody's got to go hey step back come here it's not trying to control your life i will never tell you what house to buy what car to buy whether you can go on vacation i'm not i'm not into controlling every aspect of your lives i don't want to i got enough problems trying to do mine right but god put me here if i see something that's dangerous or wrong or off or timing off i put me here say hey wait watch listen look you might not see this and you know what even i and this is something else god has used some of you to speak to me about things and i have to be humble as a leader to be able to say i remember bill had a word for me a word and it was a word of correction not some big huge thing but it was something i was saying out of my mouth i didn't need to say and he came up and he didn't do it in a haughty or a prideful way but he just said you know the lord just kind of gave this to me you really need to stop saying that you know what i said you know what you're right i need to stop it and i have you got to be able to receive correction amen let me just read this it's interesting this is this is from the book of jude i pulled this this is the amplified bible in the book of jude you can read this later if you want to you can turn it now if you want to i'm gonna close with this i promise this is it even though there's more to this page this is it this is something the book of jude the book of jude is an interesting little book you know why you know who jude was jesus's brother his half brother the one who was involved in marketing when they said you know in john 7.

  25. but you know what happened all of these guys didn't receive jesus at first all his brothers but eventually they all did and became apostles okay jude was an apostle so he could understand authority like and you know jesus was his older brother so there was a that authority issue as well he didn't like older brother you know and matter of fact think about having jesus as a brother jesus is perfect you're not you know his pr jesus the parents know this kid's called to do something powerful i don't know about y'all but this one is can you imagine the tension is kind of like joseph and his brothers right but thank god he humbled himself and came around but he wrote this book and he talked about people coming into the church and turning grace into a license to sin and all this and he gets down into talking about this is all about christians here this is all about within the church this whole book is all right and look what he says here i'm going to read this this is this is out of the uh the amplified this is jude 8 through 13. and if you don't have the amplified just listen to it with me and then you can read it later so he's talking about he says nevertheless in like manner these dreamers he's talking about these people within the church he said these dreamers also corrupt the body they scorn and reject authority and government they revile and libel and scoff at heavenly glories and the glorious ones but even when uh michael the archangel was contending with the devil and they judiciously argued and disputed about the body of moses he dared not presume to bring an abusive condemnation against him do you know why that michael didn't bring an abusive railing accusation against the devil because michael at one time had been under his authority michael didn't even dare touch it you see what i'm saying he didn't go off on him even michael watched his words because lucifer had been in charge all right here we go let's keep going he just said the lord rebuked he said but these men revile they scoff and sneer at anything they do not happen to be acquainted with and do not understand and whatever they do understand physically that which they know by mere instinct like irrational beast by these they corrupt themselves and are destroyed and perish and then he says woe to them for they have run riotously in the way of cain paul what did cain do he rebelled right god he knew god wanted a lamb he wanted to do fruit want to do it his way but get this he wanted to be

  26. religious his way he didn't want to listen to the authority of adam he didn't want to listen to the authority of god he wanted to do it his way and get this the one who wants to do religion his way will always try to destroy the one who wants to do it god's way principle from the very beginning okay let's keep going they have gone in the way of cain it says and have abandoned themselves for the sake of gain it offers following the error of balaam who was balaam you all know this because i preached on this a while back balaam was a prophet who heard from god but balaam got off and got out of god's will even though he was hearing god because he had a selfish motive he had an idol in his heart and that's why god had to use a donkey to speak to him to correct him because god was about to kill him [Music] balaam allowed himself to be manipulated by someone else balaam god told him when the king of moab came and said come and go with us but god told him don't go but then he went back and prayed again and god told him to go as he was going god was going to kill him why is that god sent this deception to it basically he had told him initially do not go right [Music] when god says it one time he don't have to say it again so balaam goes back because balaam really wants to go so bam goes back and prays again lord says go as he's going god's there to kill him if you want something bad enough you won't listen to the first command and that was balaam so he said they gone in the way of balaam and what did balaam do instead of repenting from his error he continued on in his area and eventually turned against even though he ended up obeying god and blessing israel he ended up turning against israel and teaching moab how to get israel to fall into sin so he was a divided individual one moment he was for israel the next minute he was coming against them he was completely a double-minded man right let's finish and he said they have followed the error of balaam and have perished in the rebellion of korah you know what korra was i'm not going to read this today but cora and his 250 men were levites and they were elders in israel and when this is in number 16 and when

  27. the rebellion started if you look at look at this with me this is good we have to do this numbers 12 aaron and miriam rebel against moses authority numbers 13 the spies are sent in to the land of israel to go just see they want to come back with a negative they were just to go see it and come tell everybody how good it was they come back and do what give a negative and basically begin to speak against what moses has told them they're going to do what god has said we're going to do we're going to go into the promised land so they come back and say we can't do it chapter 14 the people rebel it moves into the congregation and the people were built and say we're going to go back to egypt well by chapter 16 it's not just within some hard-headed lay people it's got within the entire leadership of the levites almost the entire these were the it says they were the men of renown they were the leaders of the congregation and they came against moses you know what they said to moses they said you take too much upon yourself moses who are you why do you lift yourself up above the congregation the lord is among us all the people are holy who do you think you are you know what moses did fell on his face because he knew oh god moses fell on his face at this point and said nothing at first you know why because he knew god's going to kill all of them because moses understood it's one thing to touch god's holiness it's another thing to touch his authority he said he got down and he prayed and moses had already prayed and intervened because god was going to kill him all in chapter 14. so moses falls on his face but then a little anger rises up at him which leaders do get ticked when they get resisted there's a little bit of going what but here's what happened he said you know what y'all bring your sensors out and tomorrow we'll see who the lord chooses is his leaders basically what moses says the lord's going to settle this and he said and then moses said this to the sons of core he said you take too much upon yourselves basically you have no idea what you're doing or what you're getting into and so they come out and basically moses went and told that told aaron and told the rest of him said you better tell the people to get away from these people because everything they have is going to be gone

  28. their families their children their tents everything's going to be swallowed up this is the only example we have in the bible of the reverse rapture of earth opening up and people going to hell like that the earth opened up and swallowed them up and they all died and went to hell god said this is what's going on in my church the way of cain the way of balaam and the way of korah [Music] and then you know what he says about him jude he said these are twice dead plucked up by the roots do you know there's no way to be twice dead and still be alive you you know the only way you can do that you had to be dead in trespasses and sins then you were born again and made alive and now you've backslidden and you're dead again in your trespasses and sins that's how you're twice dead and then plucked up by the roots it's the only way it can happen because he said these people were in the church so they were still physically alive but then he calls them twice dead and here's what's interesting i'm going to tell you all this i and i will shut up the next verse he says in the amplified i think this was interesting he says these are the hidden reefs elements of danger in your love feast hidden reefs i was telling somebody before service that when god started dealing with me a few weeks ago about preaching on this on rebellion that i saw a vision of this room where we have church here and i saw the chairs out here and nobody was here i just saw it was set up for church and then this floor right here became transparent and it was water underneath it it was almost like this was glass and there was water underneath it's like a like an aquarium and there was a snake rather good-sized snake swimming underneath here and the lord showed me he said that's the spirit of rebellion that's been slithering underneath the surface here and wives and husbands and children it's time we deal with it rooted out of ourselves rooted out of our home root it out of this church and i'll tell you when the when when aaron and miriam rebelled against moses it says the cloud lifted off god will not put up with

  29. rebellion in his house he his presence will lift off of it if it's not rooted out so i know this is something that god wants us to deal with so because he's getting ready i believe to move in this church in greater power not just in here on sunday morning but when we go out into that world the fall is going to be all about evangelism and people are going to get saved and people are going to get healed and people are going to get delivered and some of you are going to be taking people through deliverance and because i can't do it all also one last thing here very soon i'm going to talk to some of you there's a few i'm going to talk to but i know it's time for me to ordain elders and ministers within this church officially people who i know have called to certain things and it's time for us to do that remember nick i prophesied about that a long time ago and i'll go ahead and say whom the lord has laid on my heart to make elders now nancy's already considered by me as the associate pastor of this church but i said about two years ago maybe three years ago that god was preparing nick and kevin to be elders in this church and i believe god laid upon me one other night and it's paul even recently to ask now you can say no you don't have to be but i feel like that's that's what god wants to do and he wants we should do it because that's the biblical pattern that's the that's the way you do things as soon as once you there are men that you know that are faithful men there's an ordination as elders it should take place there'll be an anointing a greater anointing that'll come on you to minister to people there's people called to the five-fold offices in here that i know god wants me to ordain as ministers and there's there's and that's the that's the pattern and i told my wife i said you know i mean i believe i'm gonna make it to the rapture but i said you know i don't know for sure nobody knows but i said if something happens to me this church should continue y'all should continue as a church family you could you should continue with the things that i've been able to teach you and pass on you should pass those on to others it shouldn't just dispel and y'all end up in different dead lukewarm places that are you know y'all should carry on if if i don't do that if i don't have a timothy if i don't have a barnabas attempt you know if there's not then i failed i may have succeeded with you guys but i

  30. i fail the next group amen so some people say well a church this small why do you why would you even bother doing that but it's it's important to follow the biblical pattern yeah so we're going to do that and that time has come and so even within that god isn't even now wanting us to understand the authority issue so we respect each other in the places where god has put us amen all right let's pray father in heaven i thank you for your word god and what everyone has to to to take your word and to chew on it and digest it and study it and meditate on it so it becomes real in them and then you have to show them what it means in their life and to and to live it out and so lord i just pray that by your grace and the power of the holy spirit you will you will show us and not only us in this room today but lord those who will listen to this podcast and cds and lord we pray in jesus name that you will take this truth and they'll become a great repentance over rebellion and reviling of authority and and that they'll they'll become more order in god's house and in the lord in your church and in your kingdom that there'll be a whole lot less rebellion in fighting and speaking against and god help us deal with offenses if there's any offense in us toward one another toward a leader help us go to them and deal with that until it is removed and lord within wives and children it's time to be submissive and respect and obey the father of the house father i pray you help us all in jesus name amen
