Pursuing and Attaining the Glory of God
About this sermon
In “Pursuing and Attaining the Glory of God,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about the glory of God, the condition of the church, and David’s example. Drawing especially from Isaiah 6, Isaiah 64, 1 Chronicles 13, and 1 Samuel 10, the teaching emphasizes that God’s glory exposes sin, deepens reverence, and changes those who seek His presence. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that the church is called to recover biblical faithfulness instead of accommodating compromise.

think the church talks about but luke knows very little about what we call the glory of god sometimes i think is what we're talking about the anointing or we may sense the wind of god's presence every now and then but the glory is is much different the glory of god is much more intense much more terrifying much more purifying one of the examples i could give and many of you already know this and i in isaiah 6 about isaiah's encounter with the glory of god isaiah already knew god he already was operating in the prophetic gifts he already flowed in the word of knowledge i guess you would say in the word of wisdom and the prophetic revelation he already flowed in that and even we we see in healing because of the the ministry to king hezekiah but we see something different when all of a sudden isaiah is there and king uzziah dies and he says i saw the lord high and lifted up and his glory filled the temple and when he saw the glory of god here is a holy man of god here is a prophet of god already now not living in in habitual sin not living in you know some kind of compromise or or rebellion but here's a holy man of god encountering the glory of god what does he say i am undone i am unclean and i live among an unclean people the glory of god causes us to see the sin in our lives it causes us to see the sin around us in a different way the glory of god makes us realize i am not as clean as i ought to be i am not as pure as i ought to be i am not as holy as i ought to be but at the same time the glory of god as he strikes that fear and that respect in you the glory of god makes you want more of that see this is what the church hasn't realized is that the anointing alone will never satisfy our hearts the anointing is good and i thank god for the anointing and i thank god for the gifts of the spirit but that is not where it's supposed to end the church can have the anointing and have the gifts and still be a dying church the anointing is not enough the presence of god is good but the glory of god is better amen the glory of god will change the community the anointing and the presence of god can help strengthen the church but you're not going to see the community change unless the glory of god comes down and this is what we've got to get a hold of and for the glory of god to come down it takes a different level of passion it takes a different level of desperation and commitment and and repentance and hunger and thirst and and it just takes a desire to get the glory of god to come down i mean a baby christian that just got saved and just got filled with the holy spirit can operate in the gifts that does not mean that they have this they've even learned yet what it means to yearn and to thirst and to hunger for

god they hadn't even learned that yet but there are christians as we have we grow and as we've been maybe a christians for a few years and we realize that those little breezes of god's presence are wonderful but we need a rushing mighty wind amen that's what's going to change the church that's what's going to change the community and the church we're going to find out we're going to find out that that you know what david wanted this but made some mistakes and didn't get it and there's some other people that had the glory and lost it and there are reasons why and this is i'll just say this this is one of the things that i think that we we've got to get a hold of especially this younger generation is that there are things that god will tolerate in his glory i mean in his presence or his anointing that he will not tolerate when glory comes there are things that you might get away with without judgment or correction on your life from god but when the glory of god comes down that's when people drop dead in church just ask ananias and sapphira some people look at that story and they wonder say why it seemed like god was so harsh but what you don't understand is that the level of glory that was there and what god was doing could not be tainted god was establishing the church in its infancy stages it could not be tainted it could not be compromised it could not it could not have any mixture in it and so when they came in and lied to the apostles and lied to the holy spirit god said i can't let you ruin or contaminate this atmosphere because god said if i let you contaminate the atmosphere then i have to lift off and if i have to lift my glory off then this baby church won't make it and that's where god is is with us he sometimes even has to remove some some people you know some churches sometimes need to grow in reverse before they can actually move forward amen that's what happened in acts chapter five and it says it's amazing if you read acts chapter 5 it says after that happened great fear fell on the church but it also says that great signs and wonders happened the fear of god produces the life of god the respect of god the honor of god the fear and trembling when we sin well i can tell you i can tell where a christian is let me tell you if you sin and you've got this attitude that you know what the grace of god covers it and it's no big deal you your heart attitude is so far off you don't even know where you are but the christian who who has touched the glory of god a little bit they'll know when i sin i tremble because i don't want to lose this glory i don't want you lifting off of my life samson found out what it was to lose the glory off of his life he even said i'll go out like i used to no god was lifted off of his life this is something that i'm passionate and hungry about i spent many days i mean i go back i've been doing this for many years now and i would go where god was moving in

the past i've been i was there at larry lee's church on chur in church on the rock rockwall texas back in 88 and 89 when god was moving and the prayer ministry was being pretty much the prayer ministry was being established in the united states and being focused on and spiritual warfare was becoming a subject that people were starting to deal with i saw what happened i saw why church on the rock fell apart i was there when it fell apart i got to see the brownsville revival a friend of mine was the children's pastor i lived in montgomery at the time i went down once a week because i knew it was a real move of god i remember walking in there the first time in the glory of god being in that place and i remember after studying after years of studying revival history from finney and azusa street and wesley and the first great awakening studying all those things when i walked into brownsville i knew the glory of god was there in a different way and we just we've we've got to catch some things because god wants to move you know god was and i'm going to say this this may be a controversial statement but god was moving at lakeland but lakeland had problems and because the problems didn't get addressed it got so hungers to move he was moving even though there were problems going on but the problems caused the thing to die and that's what i want to talk to you about this morning what i want to talk to you about is both two things pursuing and attaining the glory of god pursuing and attaining the glory of god this is something that david understood and i i want to just read this i wrote this down last night when i was praying over this and studying but revival i wrote down i said revival real revival is an outpouring of this glory manifested by the holy spirit that's what revival is when the glory of god descends that's that prayer in isaiah 64. god rend the heavens and come down here rent the heavens and come down when that glory comes down that's revival when people are shaking under the fear of god and they're trembling under the glory of god when you're when when the priests can't stand to minister when when it's not about falling because there's some wind but when it's you can't stand because you are broken over your sin and the sins of your nation and you're groaning and weeping and grieving in the spirit because you want people to be saved and delivered from sin and from going to hell when that grips you when that glory grips you and i remember being brownsville and i remember it was august 9th 1997 in a pew there the glory of god gripped me so strong the groaning and the weeping for lost souls and i remember that i fell over it wasn't i fell out or anything it was that i could not stay in the pew i had to get on the floor and groan and weep under the glory of god for god to move and god spoke to me then there are things i've shared in the last couple weeks god spoke to me about a move of god about a revival that was to
