But as I was praying last night and this morning, the Lord just completely changed what he wanted me to do today. So, we're going to do something completely different now. Uh after praise and worship, I'm going to speak to you just for a brief minute on what we're about to do and then we're going to do it. Um and because again, we don't have much room in this church. So, we'll do the best we can. But I believe the Lord wants to touch some people in here today in a special way. uh especially some of you that are visiting and visiting from afar. I just believe the Lord's not done what he started doing yesterday. And so this is going to be more of a ministry service than anything else. Also, um Jordan, if y'all would please get the uh the building plans ready to put up on the screen because I want to show everybody where we are on that. Give kind of an update. Lord, I know that you are you are so ready to reveal yourself, to touch people, to speak to people, to convict us, to change, to repent, to follow you, uh to show us that you love us and you have a much better plan than we have for ourselves. Lord, I ask you to just come into this place today, Lord, as we choose to take this time to worship you, to worship you in spirit and in truth. Lord, we ask you to manifest yourself, your presence, your power, your gifts, your healing power. Lord, we ask you to manifest yourself in here today in a powerful way. I ask you to touch, Lord, from the youngest to the oldest and all in between. Lord, we ask for you to pour out your spirit in this place because we need you. We need times of refreshing that comes from your presence. We need uh Lord sometimes just a little encouragement and strengthening in this journey as we walk by faith and not by sight. You know, I want to share something as we're singing here. You know, the scripture says in James 4:8, "Draw near to me." The Lord says, "I'll draw near to you." And I just want to say this, for me, it's been nearly 40 years now. Well, actually longer. If we go back to when I had my first powerful experience with Jesus, I was probably 11, 12 years old. 7879 back way back then. And you know, I would have never had that experience with Jesus if I hadn't had the courage to step out of the back aisle of that little Baptist church. It's right down here. It's not even just a few miles from here. But I had the courage finally because the Holy Spirit was moving on me, convicting me of my sin and pulling on me to take a step out of that seat to go confess him in front of everybody. And as 11, 12 year old, I was terrified. You know, us young folks don't like to get up in front of people. My daughter hates it, right? She's 16. Hates it. I understand. I did too. But something in me said, "I want Jesus more than I care about my friends or all these people or what they're going to think." And let me tell you, when I stepped out of the back aisle of that little Baptist church to walk down the aisle to give my life to Jesus, the presence and power of God hit me and surrounded me. And I was amazed at his love that was so intense and his power that was so intense. And I just want you to know even though I fell away for a season after that because I didn't understand what it meant to walk with Jesus, but I can tell you this. No one could ever talk me out of that Jesus was real,
that he died for my sins, that he rose from the dead on the third day, that there is a heaven, that there is a hell. I knew it because it was revealed to me in those few moments in his presence. And this is something why we have services like this. This is why we worship. It's why we take time to worship. It's why we take time to pray for you at graduation. Because my prayer is not that you will just simply believe a creed or a list of beliefs. My prayer is that you will encounter the living resurrected almighty God whose name is Jesus Christ. Amen. and that you will encounter his presence and his power and his love for you and that you will be willing to give up your sins and your own life plans to follow the one who is worthy to follow. There's no one else you need to follow. Not me, not anybody else. I want you to follow Jesus. Period. I want you to know him like I have come to know him over the years. I don't want you to just know about him. That's why sometimes I I know we we can even get overloaded on teaching and preaching. And this is why churches and some of you that are going to be ministers need listen to this. You need to be willing to stop and change a whole service to wait on the Lord for his presence to come in and his glory to come in. Now, for some of you out here, this may be a little uncomfortable because if things aren't quite right in your heart, when the Holy Spirit starts moving, you become uncomfortable. That's okay. I was uncomfortable in the backseat of that Baptist church down the road for for the whole sermon and nearly the entire altar call program. But I'm glad I took a step. Now, we're going to do another song here in just a minute after I get through sharing this with you. I want you to know that today what I'm going to be doing is praying for people that God will touch you, that God will open your eyes, that you will see him and experience him in a way you haven't. And what the Lord told me last night about 1:00 in the morning was that I was to invite the young people up here first. Now, I'm not going to make you get out of your seat, but I'm telling you, if you're 20 years old or younger, I want you up here. And even if you don't believe, even if you don't agree with mom and dad, mom and dad's Jesus freak life they're trying to live.
But I guarantee this, if you take a step toward Jesus, he'll take a step toward you. And if you want to know him and you genuinely want to know for yourself, the Lord's letting you know today's the day. You remember when Thomas doubted that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead and he appeared in the room and he said, "Thomas, quit doubting. Come over here. You want to you want to see? You want to touch?" Okay. Some of you are doubting Thomas's. That's okay. cuz I know you don't know what I know. You hadn't experienced what I've experienced. I can't expect you to be like me. But I can tell you if you want Jesus, if you want to know him, if you want to be forgiven, if you want to be one of his sheep and walk with him and know him in a real way, not just religion, not just going to church, then you can. And if you do that, if you meet him and you understand that, then you then you will understand church. Some people come to church, they don't even understand what we're doing. Why are they standing here and sing for so long? Why do they raise their hands? Why do they cry? It's okay. You don't have to understand it. But I can tell you this. When he touches you, you'll cry. And it's not tears of sadness either. It's overwhelming peace, overwhelming joy, overwhelming realization that he is real, that he's alive, that he cares about each one of us, that he's got a plan for each one of us. It's far better than our plan. But go ahead and try to work out your plan. Enjoy that. But if you'll surrender to him, you don't even have even after you surrender, you don't even have to be perfect. You know, I give you this this story and we have people from Australia here. Whole family from Australia. You're from Australia. 1988, I was in Israel for a month during the first init. People getting killed right across the street from where I stayed. Gunshots through the night. Bombs, a bomb went by me. I mean, it was Israel, right? And I was traveling around the country with my brother and we met this guy from Australia named David Hook. I hadn't found him since. So, if y'all Australians can find him, let me know if you find David Hook. He will remember me. David Hook had just graduated from high school. He was an atheist.
big time. He was a farmer from a farming family in Australia and I don't remember exactly where he was from. He loved my baseball t-shirt that I had because our supporters was like the farmers some farmer group and he's like he traded me his sandals for the shirt. Like I was just going to give it to him but he's no we have trade something. I said okay what do you want to trade? He said I'll give you my sandals for your shirt. So I gave him my shirt, but he argued. He traveled the country with me and my brother and several other Christians for two weeks and he argued every day his atheist, why he didn't believe there was a God and blah blah blah blah blah. Right? And I gave him the best apologetics, defense for Christianity, arguments. I preached the gospel. I gave him what I could give him, right? So after two weeks of this arguing on bus rides in front of everybody, you know, Israelis and Arabs just looking at us like we're crazy. We go to the garden tomb, the actual garden tomb where Jesus rose from the dead. That's right under the rock of Gol Gotham that looks like a skull to this day. And we stayed in there, I don't know, for about 30 minutes. And I was talking to the other Christian, a Christian from New Zealand, another Christian, two Christians from France. Yeah, there are Christians from France, y'all. I know it's surp. And he got real quiet. I noticed that David was real quiet over in the corner, you know. We left and you have to walk out of the garden through the garden. You have to walk out of a through a little store into an alley. And we were walking down this alley and he said, "I felt something in that tomb I've never felt in my life. I felt a peace come over me, a presence come over me I've never felt in my life." And all I said to him, I turned and said, "Well, that's just Jesus trying to get your attention, boy." And uh we went back and he was staying with us. We were in the same youth hostel, sharing the same room. And my friend, the guy less that was from New Zealand had a little Sony Walkman that had the little plug-in speaker and he was playing some Christian music and David was over there with his head down and he popped his head up and he said, "You know what, guys?" We looked and saw, "Here comes another argument." He said, "I want this Jesus y'all been talking about. I said, 'Well, let's pray then. And he bowed his head and I led him in a prayer to ask Jesus to forgive his sins and to be Lord of his life. And the presence of God was so strong in that little youth hostel room right across from David's castle.
The presence of God was so strong in there. I at the end of my prayer, I said, "Lord, I thank you that you are here. Your presence is here." And he looked up, his eyes, when I said, "Amen," his little eyes were just bugged out. And he said, "He is here. Somebody else is in this room." And he went from an atheist to a bornagain follower of Jesus Christ. And the last time I saw him, he is laying on that bed in that hostel cuz we had to leave. And he was going back to Australia and we were going back to the United States. and he uh he's reading I gave him my little pocket New Testament and he was reading Matthew. See, it was both a truth of the word of God and the presence of God that touched him. So, I'm going to say this today to some of you young people. If you're struggling with doubt or you think mom and dad are crazy or maybe ah this is this thing is Jesus thinks it's not for me or you know that church oh believe me this goes on. That church my parents are dragging me to is crazy. They believe theirs flat. Let me just tell you it ain't about all that. We can disagree on some things, but let me tell you one thing we can't disagree on. Who is God Almighty? Who is the creator of the universe? And who is the only one that can save us from ourselves, from our sins and our wickedness and our evil that dwells in our hearts? He's the only one. So today, we're going to sing one more song. I want y'all to do more love, more power if you don't mind. Amen. We're going to do that. And at the end of that, I'm going to give an altar call for the young people first. Now, like I said, you can stay in your seat if you want to, but if you take a step toward Jesus today, he's going to take a step towards you. And I'm going to lay hands on you and I'm going to pray for you that God will touch you and reveal to you himself in a way that you may have never experienced. And I go back to the story here is in 2 Kings 6 of Elisha with his servant. He had a servant that believed but really still didn't know for sure. And when the Syrian army came against him thought, man, we're toast. But see, Elisha could see something. He knew something that his servant didn't cuz his eyes wasn't open yet. And so finally Elisha says, "You know what? I'm going to pray the Lord open your eyes." And he prayed, "The Lord open his eyes." And that's when he saw
that there were angels all around, chariots of fire all around them. And what I'm going to pray today is that your eyes be open. I'm talking about your spiritual eyes to know Jesus in the spirit as you ought to know him. That you would encounter him. So for you doubting Thomases, this is your moment. You can't say I never got a chance or this is just mom and dad's thing or understand. And then after that, I want especially the spouses of our graduates and any family that came that didn't get prayed for. If you want prayer, I want you to come up after these. We pray for these young people. And then after that, anybody wants to, that's what we're going to do today. As long as it takes. And there will be for some of you prophetic words will come forth, words of knowledge and maybe nothing and maybe even when we pray for maybe you feel nothing but I can tell you what's going to happen. This is what happened when I went to the Brownsville revival. I remember many times going there thinking nothing happened and I would go home and the power of God would fall and move just so you never know what God's going to do. But you know why I would go to the Brownsville Revival? Because I wanted more. I wanted more of Jesus. I wanted more of the Holy Spirit. I wanted more of his power in my life. So that's why we're going to sing this song. So let's stand one more time. You can sit after this if you need to, but I want to hear this song. It's a old song. It's from the 70s. I mean, I was just 1:12:571 hour, 12 minutes, 57 secondsBut at 16, when I was 16, when I at the height of all that, my dad decided to take us back to a church. 1:13:071 hour, 13 minutes, 7 secondsAnd uh and this little church was so it was so dead. 1:13:131 hour, 13 minutes, 13 secondsBut we went from time to time. And but I remember they had a little revival. They had an evangelist come. The drinking and driving got worse. so many times I should have 1:14:451 hour, 14 minutes, 45 secondswrecked my car and killed myself. I I thank God to this day that I didn't die in my stubbornness and rebellion. 1:14:551 hour, 14 minutes, 55 secondsThat I didn't die in my sins or even worse kill someone else while I was doing it. 1:15:071 hour, 15 minutes, 7 secondsBecause when I came back to Jesus and started going to the prisons to preach, I've told this story that I encountered a young lady that I had led to Jesus about 5 years before. 1:15:191 hour, 15 minutes, 19 secondsBut she had gone back to drinking and rebellion and partying. 1:15:251 hour, 15 minutes, 25 secondsAnd drunk one night driving, she hit somebody and killed them. 1:15:291 hour, 15 minutes, 29 secondsShe wakes up out of a coma three, you know, 3 months in the hospital and realizes that when she gets out of the hospital, she's going to prison. 1:15:411 hour, 15 minutes, 41 secondsUm, that's what stubbornness and rebellion will do. And I just I'm going to tell you this because I can feel it from 1:15:491 hour, 15 minutes, 49 secondssome. I won't point you out just yet. You have a free free will to choose that.
