The Sixth Trumpet: War at the Euphrates

Revelation describes four angels released at the Euphrates and an immense mounted force bringing death by fire, smoke, and brimstone. Watchman 33 sees the expanding United States–Israel–Iran war, the Strait of Hormuz conflict, and Russia’s widening confrontation with NATO as possible preparations for this still-unfinished judgment.

Revelation 9:13–21

13And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,

14Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

15And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

16And the number of the army of the horsemen [were] two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

17And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses [were] as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

18By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

19For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails [were] like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

20And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

21Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

THE DEVELOPING CONNECTION

The conflict is widening. The prophesied death toll has not come.

Russia begins its full-scale invasion of Ukraine

The war placed Russia, a nuclear-armed state, in a prolonged confrontation with a Western-supported Ukraine and increased the danger of escalation.

Russia approves a revised nuclear doctrine

Russia replaced its 2020 nuclear-deterrence principles with a revised policy specifying conditions under which it may use nuclear weapons.

The United States strikes Iranian nuclear facilities

U.S. forces struck Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan during the June 2025 Iran–Israel war, explicitly citing Iran’s nuclear program.

Operation Epic Fury begins

U.S. Central Command began a direct campaign against Iran, widening the regional war and striking military, missile, naval, and security targets.

The Iran ceasefire framework collapses

A June memorandum intended to create safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and open a sixty-day negotiating window failed to halt hostilities. After new attacks on ships and U.S. counterstrikes, the United States declared the framework over and daily strike operations resumed.

A Russian-made cruise missile breaches Polish airspace

Polish investigators confirmed that a cruise missile manufactured near Moscow entered NATO-member Poland during Russian military activity over western Ukraine, bringing the war’s physical danger across the alliance border.

The Iran war reaches six months without a settlement

The United States–Israel–Iran conflict remained active after six months. Iran’s restriction of the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. counter-blockade of Iranian ports continued, while formal U.S.–Iran talks had stopped.

U.S. oversight documents the war’s regional scale

The first Lead Inspector General report recorded more than 50,000 U.S. service members deployed, about 36,000 combat sorties, roughly 13,500 targets struck, and Iranian damage to U.S. military or diplomatic facilities across multiple Middle Eastern countries. It also reported munitions strain and continuing hostilities.
