hallelujah we worship the creator of heaven and earth lord the gospel of john says that speaking of jesus that you were in the world and the world was made by you and the world knew you not great is the mystery of godliness that god was manifest in the flesh lord we worship you because you are seated upon your throne you are high and lifted up you are above all other gods there is no other beside you the name of jesus is above every name and we worship you and we praise you this morning in jesus name we pray amen hallelujah good to worship the lord amen well i tell you i have to say that there's not many things in the past that i miss but the brownsville revival is one of them i was blessed and privileged to have a friend who was on staff at the church and i was blessed to hear about it early on um and then to live only about 150 miles away so i went weekly for a while and then once a month for a while and for about five years i visited the revival that went on and on and the presence of god was strong and then the gospel was preached in truth the cross was lifted up jesus was lifted up repentance was preached and uh sin was pointed out and exposed and many people i saw run to that altar in tears and repenting and giving their lives to the lord and many prodigals came home so the critics can say what they want but the power of god was at that revival and the fruit was there and it was lasting fruit amen boy we need another one we need another revival like that anyway this morning i believe i do have something that i believe the lord wants me to share with you once you turn in your bibles and go to um we're going to start in first thessalonians chapter 5. first thessalonians chapter five you're going to have to pay attention this morning this is not an easy subject to delve into nor is it an easy one to grasp but i think it's important for the christian if we're going to mature in the lord spiritually we're going to grow
we need to understand this concept and it's the difference between the soul and the spirit what i'm going to talk to you about today we're going to call it the soulish christian okay you'll understand what that means more in a minute but um an important subject but before we delve into that real far i want to lay a little a little uh foundation here um first of all in first thessalonians 5 and verse 23 we learned something about the makeup or the nature of man right and this is uh verse 23. we're going to read it here it says in the very god of peace sanctify you wholly or completely and i pray god your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our lord jesus christ now this is of course a prayer that paul prayed for them where he's praying that god would sanctify them or make them holy set them apart but he he put a division between what makes up a man and a woman what makes up a human being and he said there are three separate greek words he said spirit soul and body now if you'll notice the order that they're in spirit soul and body that's no accident because as a christian if you are born again then your spirit man has been regenerated it is the part of you that has been risen from the dead it is the part of you that's been made alive and connected back to god the soul is the mind-willed emotions we're going to get into that more here in a second but the mind is the part of us or the soul is the part of us that has to be renewed by the word of god and by the holy spirit and is in constant conflict because guess what the soul is the man in the middle the soul is caught between the spirit that is willing and wants to do what the holy spirit wants us to do and the soul is caught between the flesh that the flesh all the flesh wants to do is sin and evil the soul is caught in the middle okay now a lot of christians and especially in here we know the difference i've taught a lot about crucifying the flesh and getting the body under control and making it obey the lord right we're supposed to bring the flesh under control paul said that we all know obvious sins of the flesh right the sins of adultery or sexual sins and immorality um we we know about those drunkenness
and drug abuse and you know we we know about those right and a lot of times i think christians uh get pretty happy with themselves if they conquered some of those sins of the flesh and and crucified the flesh and gotten some victory in that area and really we're supposed to right as christians that's one of the we are supposed to get victory over the sins of the flesh i mean that's what paul talked about in romans right how do we that are dead to sins how should we live any longer therein right shall we sin that grace may abound no god forbid right the christian uh one of the first truths that we really is supposed to be revealed to us is that before salvation we lived and indulged the flesh at will we lived after the flesh we walked after the flesh we pleased the flesh that was our primary motive and that's how it was our primary motor operation of life now we you know as a christian we don't even get this teaching anymore in most churches that to be a christian you have to repent turn from the sins of the flesh and make jesus lord of your life and then proceed in a life to mortify the deeds of the body to crucify it to to kill it to kill off those habits and sins that we indulge to not let the flesh rule you okay and that right there is hard enough in itself it can be done and it's not done through just sheer determination but you do have to make up your mind to cooperate with what the holy spirit wants to do right i mean you have to make up your mind you're not going to commit adultery when you're tempted to commit adultery right you have to make up your mind i'm going to obey god and then pray for god's grace and strength to do it okay but just crucifying the flesh and the affections and and lust of the flesh and the deeds of the flesh and the works of the flesh is not everything because there is the soul okay and this is the next really the next progression in christian life is to die to being led by your soul now let's define it again let me define these so you'll understand and i don't have time to develop the whole thing i'm just going to give it to you this morning because we're going to get into this the spirit man the spirit of man is where lies his conscience you can write these down what makes up the spirit of man of course paul said in first corinthians 15 it is a spiritual body therefore i believe it it has shape we know from his descriptions that the spirit man has eyes
ears a mouth and a physical uh not physical but an outline of a body all right and it's the greek word pneuma for spirit but then in your spirit is where your conscience is what is your conscience your conscience is the instinctive understanding of right and wrong it is what god imprinted in us when he said that he put his law into our hearts even unsaved people have god's law written in their hearts that's why they know right from wrong that's why when you're a child or when you get into teenage years and even though you may not be a christian when you go and do your first sexual sin or your first bad you know immoral thing you feel so horrible about it that is your conscience that is your spirit that is the part of you that god imprinted his law in you so you would know right from wrong instinctively okay that's contained in your spirit another part of your spirit is the area of intuition okay now a lot of people think that's that in their in their soul they think suspicion is intuition okay but this is intuition has nothing to do with your mental suspicions all right intuition is where you perceive or sense or feel what's going on in the spirit world either with somebody or something this is the part where the holy spirit communicates to us supernatural revelation this is really the area where the gifts of the spirit work here okay word of knowledge when god reveals something either about the present or the past that you have no ability to know in the natural word of wisdom when he reveals to you something about the future so um when you walk up on somebody and you discern you perceive something everything that's coming out of their mouth sounds right and good but you in your spirit you sense no something's evil something's a myth something's wrong about this person something's dark here okay this is the area of perception or your intuition um also contained within your spirit is what i will call the area of worship or communication okay this is really the place where we communicate with god now i'm going to give you a bunch of scriptures in a second to prove all this out but he he talks about this is where you know when paul said when i pray in tongues in first corinthians 14 he said my spirit prayeth but my understanding is unfruitful he was talking about my spirit's praying to god my soul doesn't know what's going on
okay that's awesome all right we're gonna we're gonna really delve into this all right but this is the place of where you worship now this is why idolatry is such a serious sin because whatever you give worship to or reverence to or bow to in worship either blesses your spirit if it's god or contaminates it and defiles it if it's an idol okay y'all with me on this this is why you say well how do you know that pastor dean well first john i mean the gospel of john 4 is where we hear he said we must god is seeking people to worship him in spirit smallest and in truth right the place where we worship god the place where we experience that intimacy and that communication is in our spirit so you've got that your spirit is your conscience your intuition and where you worship or communicate with god or the spirit world now witches know this as well witches know that they communicate with spirits demon spirits they communicate with the spirit world through their spirit man they know this astral projection uh visualization until they gain the ability they call it the third eye the ability to see in the spirit realm they connect with the spirit realm through demonic assistance the christian is supposed to only communicate with the spirit world through the holy spirit and him alone all right all right now let's break down what is the soul okay the soul the soul has several parts the soul is your mind which is your intellect your ability to think your ability to reason right it's your natural intellect it's your will which is where you have the ability to make decisions through your reasoning process and you choose i will do this or i will do that is your will and your emotions notice that the spirit part of you has nothing to do with emotions it is the soul and it is the emotions part of the soul and sometimes our leaning to our own understanding and rational reasoning is that what gets us in trouble when it comes to god when it comes to spiritual
matters okay and then everybody of course knows what the flesh is the flesh is the physical body with its five senses okay but now the soul gets a lot of its information from our physical body and from the five senses and what we see smell taste hear touch right all right now god is concerned of course with the whole being and before i go any further let me just say this i love this illustration because the bible clearly reveals that man all right and when i say that i mean mankind a man or a woman but man is three parts spirit soul and body but yet one being the bible says we are created in the image of god therefore god is one god he's one being he's not many he's not three you know the the muslims say that we you know worship three gods it's not that at all he is one god but there are three parts of him just like there's three parts of us you know shari your spirit cherie is not is not separate from your physical sharia or your soul i mean that's just the way it is now let's break down let's just break down the trinity for a second this is the way i see the trinity the holy spirit is the spirit of god just like we have a human spirit right we have our human spirit the soul or the mind will and emotions the will is the father and when that is in a body was put in a body that is jesus amen that's why the bible tells us that jesus in colossians 2 9 that he is the fullness of the godhead bodily that's why he said to philip philip if philip said show us the father and he said if you've seen me you've seen the father me and the father are one that would be like me saying the spirit man dean and the body that's dean and the soul is we're one but i can refer to the different parts of me amen and people say well who is jesus praying to i said himself it's not complicated people look at me i said do you ever talk to yourself do you think to yourself absolutely you do do you have conversations in your mind and even sometimes out loud with yourself everyone in here does that don't you all right now what god was illustrating through separating or trying to show the
differences within himself the different manifestations of himself does not mean there's three different gods so if you're listening muslims and they do download our podcast turkey saudi arabia if you're listening christians do not worship three god one god who reveals himself in three different ways same god one god so your isa is not our jesus amen it looks like rick warren should know that but he doesn't all right now that i want you to see said in verse first thessalonians 5 23 let's let's just read it one more time he said i i and the very god of peace sanctify you holy and that word is w-h-o-l-l-y completely and i pray god your whole spirit soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our lord jesus christ now let's look at just a few verses i know i quoted these but i want you to see them go go to john the gospel of john chapter four we're going to turn to some verses now i want you to see some things before i go any further john chapter 4. let's just read these you know sometimes i quote things but i want you to see them john chapter 4 [Music] is when jesus was talking to the woman at the well she figured out he was a prophet or something he didn't know what in the world was going on look at verse 19 he said the woman saith in him sir i perceive that thou art a prophet our fathers worshiped in this mountain and you say that in jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship i love what jesus said woman believe me the hour cometh when you shall neither in this mountain or yet at jerusalem worship the father you worship you know not what we know what we worship for salvation is of the jews but then he said this but the hour cometh and now is when the true worshipers shall worship the father in spirit small s and in truth for the father seeketh such to worship him god is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth i want you to really see this because he says again worship is not out of your soul you may start sometimes with your soul but true worship ends up in the spirit or should all right we'll get back to that in a second all right let's look at a few let's look at a few more verses go to romans
chapter 1. just want you to remember these verses romans 1. because sometimes i think we read things and we just kind of overlook them romans 1 you there all right let's look at verse 8. he said first i thank my god through jesus christ for you all and that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world look at verse 9 though for god is my witness whom i serve with my spirit in the gospel of his son that without ceasing i make mention of you always in my prayers i want to stop right there do you notice that he said god whom i serve with my spirit oh boy he didn't say so he didn't even say body he said whom i serve with my spirit all right let's keep going um romans 12 11. tell me when you get there romans 12 verse 11 says this real simply uh matter of fact we'll just back up in verse 10 he says be kindly affection one to another with brotherly love and honor preferring one another not slothful in business now look at this fervent in spirit small s fervent in spirit serving the lord he says rejoicing in hope patient and tribulation continuing instant in prayer and so on but he points out here what being fervent in spirit serving the lord all right let's keep going go over to first corinthians 6. it's okay if i give y'all a few verses here right first corinthians 6 and i love how paul says this like he said now listen whom i serve with my spirit i think christians get a little confused sometimes every time it says spirit in the new testament it's not always talking about the holy spirit right that small s and that big ass is important to pay attention to it okay and sometimes you have to look at the context of it so you know what he's
talking about but he says my spirit so if there's any confusion my spirit so he's talking about his human spirit i serve the lord right all right let's keep going what'd i say 6 20 let's back up let's look um look at verse 17 we'll read 17-20 he says but he that is joined unto the lord is one spirit flee fornication every sin that a man doeth is without the body but he that commandeth fornication sitteth against his body what know you not that your body is the temple of the holy ghost which is in you which you have of god and you are not your own for you are bought with a price therefore glorify god in your body and in your spirit which are god's wow now granted let me say this i know i'm trying to focus in on the spirit of man here but didn't he say god i pray that god will sanctify or make holy for him your whole spirit soul and body god wants all of you matter of fact everybody knows the scripture where it says the the they asked him what the the two great commandments were and he said what the first one is to love the lord your god with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind with all your strength right the heart there he's referring to the spirit of man the soul and the mind and then even physically with all your strength it's not that god is is is not wanting part of you he wants all of you that's why it says to present you know romans 12 11 says present your even your what your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable so don't think for a second i'm saying you can be a spiritual christian and not be holy in your body not that's not what we're talking about today okay but we're talking about we we we know we got to do that now this church for sure ought to know it right all right but we need to figure out if we're being dominated by our souls now go let's before i go any further go to first corinthians 14. i just want you to see paul saying this because this is important we're going to come back to some of these i'm talking about the spiritual gifts first corinthians 14 look at verse one he says follow after charity or love and desire spiritual gifts but rather that you may prophesy for he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men but unto god for no man understandeth them how be it in the spirit small s in his human spirit he what speaketh mysteries but he that prophesied speaketh unto men to edification and exhortation and comfort he that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself right now look down at verse 14 paul talking about this
he says for if i pray in an unknown tongue my spirit pray it i just want you to see that my spirit is praying a lot of people think the holy spirit's praying but it's your spirit praying and the holy spirit is there helping your spirit pray what needs to be prayed amen let me explain our physical makeup with a little illustration of the tabernacle of moses okay let's remember the tabernacle of moses and i did this a while back but just remember this the tabernacle of moses had a fence around it okay a big fence around it and that was called the outer court okay that's where the brazen altar was where they killed the sacrifices and some of them were burnt offerings and then it had the brazen laver now you had to go the priests had to go do their offerings at the brazen labyrinth then they had to go wash at the i mean at the altar then they had to wash at the laver it had water in it it was a bowl with water in it and then there was the tabernacle itself now the tabernacle you went in and the first room was 10 by 20 cubits long all right but there was a veil because there was a second room that was the holy of holies okay now what's interesting about this is there's three parts to the three areas there's the outer court there was the inner court where there was this table of showbread which represents the word of god the lamp stand with the oil which represented the holy spirit and the place right up next to the veil to the holy of holies the altar of incense or prayer okay and then you went into the second veil and that was the holy of holies where the where the mercy seat was and that's where the actual presence of god dwelled in the tabernacle on the mercy seat all right this is a beautiful picture of the human being that's why god did it this way the outer court is the body okay the first inner court is the soul this is where we choose to serve we choose to read our bibles the show bread the bread of life we choose we choose to obey the holy spirit here we choose uh to pray but these things the showbread the oil and the lamp stand and the in the prayer altar the altar of incense all those were for a reason to take us somewhere else those represent the soul the mind will and emotions and the holy of holies where god's presence without where his spirit was actually manifest would be our spirit see when god comes to dwell in us guess what do you think he's dwelling in our flesh what did paul say about our flesh he
said in our flesh dwells no good thing do you think he's dwelling in our soul where it's all conflicted and back and forth no god dwells when he dwells in a man or a woman he dwells in the area of their spirit okay this is so important y'all because what i'm talking about this morning the soulish christian okay you as a christian will be dominated led either by your flesh or by your soul your emotions and your own reasoning or by your spirit that is yielding and cooperating with the holy spirit in you now here's what's so dangerous for many of us we get confused sometimes between what is of our soul and what is of our spirit okay many people get emotional and think that's the holy ghost now granted if the holy ghost is really moving on you you may become emotional but it's not turned around you see what i'm saying we think a lot of times that for instance like i said earlier that our curious mind and suspicion is discernment when usually we're just deducting things from little hints we pick up and we're trying to figure things out we're leading to our own understanding we think that's discernment matter of fact discernment most of the time goes i have no reason why i feel this or think this but i just know it okay now again i'm not saying the soul is bad all bad because does god use our souls does god want us to use our souls to serve him yes okay it's part of the process it's part of you know you you can't read your bible unless you you in your soul make the decision through your will i'm going to sit down and read the bible your soul is involved in this process okay but i wrote this on facebook yesterday because the lord just i got up yesterday morning to pray and the lord just impressed this on me so strong that too many christians are led by their emotions and leaning to their own understanding and have no concept of when they are yielding to the spirit when they're yielding to their own soul and we have got to learn the difference because listen to me if you're led around by the your soul you're going to be up and down you're going to miss god
one day you're going to hit it one day you're going to miss one day you're going to be up and down and all around okay and you cannot serve god consistently out of your soul and remain strong spiritual you cannot do it you were not created to serve god primarily out of your soul you will wear out okay because there's a in proverbs i think it's proverbs 18. you'll have to check me on this but there's a scripture back there that says the spirit of man sustains his infirmity and literally what that means is your human spirit within you is what sustains your flesh this is why witches and people who get into astral projection and there and learn how through demonic power to for their spirit to leave their body they begin to age very quickly and have physical problems because the spirit is supposed to remain in the body that's why james said like faith without works is dead so is this the body without the spirit is dead that's why when jesus came and raised the little girl from the dead she'd only been dead for a short time but that so that means her spirit was out of her body for a little while when he raised her back and called her spirit back into her body first thing he said was give her something to eat why he knew her body would be weak okay because your body is made to have that spiritual that spiritual part of you the spirit is the very life of the flesh okay now we can get real technical this morning and talking about your how how spiritual and powerful the blood the human blood is okay because blood is what connects it all together this is why leviticus 17 10 10-11 talks about the life of the flesh is in the blood and i have given it to you upon the altars for your making atonement for your souls it's why the blood of jesus christ is so important because it's not just a phys physical blood it is the very life source and force and power of god all right um that's why your blood where's your blood flow through your heart amen it's constantly flowing it's constantly moving guess what blood leaves your body guess what else leaves your body life is gone right okay um anyway we can talk more about that later all right i want to show you this this is something i said and i wrote yesterday i didn't put this on facebook because i didn't want to get into it but i said i'm just going to read it so too many christians today are led more by their emotions than the bible and the holy spirit they live their christianity more out of their soul their mind will and emotions than they do out of their spirit that is submitting to the holy spirit this is
why so many end up believing false doctrines and going to dead churches that are full of christians who never repent or get free uh from immorality religious traditions and doctrines that comfort the soul i.e the emotions become more important than the written word of god and what the holy spirit really wants to say and do the sad thing is is that many of these people are convinced that they're being led by the holy spirit when in fact it's just their own soul and their own flesh their own feelings they can talk a good spiritual game but they usually start showing their true colors when the truth in the by their when you when shown the truth in the bible that exposes their wrong beliefs or their sins okay this is why the writer of hebrews said this and i want everybody to go to hebrews chapter 4. now something's going to make sense to you hebrews 4. and i'm going to bring out my little illustration today i've brought this out before the kids always like this this is my carlos the fifth replica sword here looks like a real one all right weighted and everything two-edged sword that's the reason i bought this years ago paid a hundred dollars down in orlando for this but i bought this because i knew many times we're going to talk about the bible or the word of god as the sword of the spirit okay now let's let's look at this passage here and this will make sense a little it'll start making sense all right let's go to verse 12. everybody all know this all right he said this he said for the word of god and this is the logos i'll come back to that in a second but he says for the word of god is quick or alive and powerful sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and that of the joints and marrow it is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart oh we need to grasp this right here listen to what he's saying why is he saying that there is the need that the word of god the sword of the word of god needs to come in and to divide between what is soul and what is spirit because listen to me without the word of god being the final authority without the word of god being everything to you see the word of god listen to me the word of god and the truth of the word of god has to be more important to you than your emotions and how you feel about
something this is why we've got a church that's led by emotions we've got doctrines created by men that are clearly just emotional because if they taught the truth then some of their children are lost see what i'm saying i know preachers who used to believe that homosexuality was wrong that it was a sin that it would damn your soul to hell if you didn't get out of that sin but then one of their children got into homosexuality and they got emotionally involved and they let their emotions change their beliefs and what they have now is soulless christianity they talk about jesus but they they've created a doctrine of men a false doctrine that is emotionally based emotionally created and they're deceived see listen you can't let emotions shake you from the truth see this is why going back to john a minute ago said that those who worship god must worship him in spirit and truth because you can't even know the difference between what is soul and what is spirit what is emotion and what is of truly the holy ghost if the sword of the spirit which is the word of god doesn't come in and sever it and show you which is which amen this is why the word of god is so important listen the word of god is not so you can just gain spiritual knowledge matter of fact someone can get a lot of spiritual knowledge of the word of god and become prideful arrogant and have no true spiritual maturity they can have a lot of knowledge this is what the bible's talking about in second timothy when he says ever learning never able to come to the knowledge of the truth why because they're trying to do it out of their own intellect leaning to their own understanding and and basing their doctrines and their theology out of their emotions and and human examples try like like for instance the whole once saved always save thing one of the arguments that comes up is well god you know what what parent wouldn't would throw their child in hell listen that is an emotionally based argument that is contrary to the truth of scripture see what i'm saying what divides that the truth of the word of god coming in and dividing no that is soul that is your own mind reasoning that is human reasoning that is human emotions that is not the truth of almighty god
see christianity 20 years ago 25 years ago 30 years ago a lot of them decided you know what we're going to do we're going to soften things up we're going to create churches and sermons that appeal to the emotions and the souls and the flesh of people instead of that mean nasty sword that cuts through all this junk it cuts through sin it cuts through error it cuts through false teaching it cuts through everything we don't want the word we want soulish christianity that touches our emotions that makes us go home feeling good and encouraged but we don't want to be convicted we don't want to be pierced to the heart with the truth we don't want to be told we want to be able to serve god you know help in the children's ministry you know help out in the church and do whatever and and think that that okay i've done i've got my little i've got my little church my little religion fix but we don't want to learn about what it means to be a spiritual christian who loves the word of god who's willing to accept it without emotions and just accept the truth we don't want to talk about praying in tongues having a prayer life having intimate worship we don't want to talk about those things that's too much work that's too much to bypass i want just a little emotional christianity that tickles my intellect and makes me feel good let me read this to you here let me read this here let's read this verse again and i'm going to read it to you out of the amplified i want you to listen to this okay this is why it's so important to stay in the word of god listen i was saying this a minute ago and i think i got sidetracked let me say it real quick the reason you need to stay in the word of god is not primarily to gain knowledge the reason you need to stay in the word of god is because you constantly need to be able to see yourself you need a constant evaluation of where you really are are you really spiritual or are you soulish and carnal are are are my doctrines correct do i stand for the truth even when people don't like me see the drive the soulless drive for success and to be liked and to be somebody has driven the church into these errors but it's soulish it's emotional i love what the you know the famous
scripture and proverbs three what does he say trust in the lord with all your heart and what lead not to your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path see here's what watchmene says about this he talks about this in the spiritual man but he says this real plainly he says just conquering the sins of the flesh is only one step in christianity after conquering the sins of the flesh and truly experiencing some deliverance and sanctification and you're walking with the lord holy and obedient then comes the lifelong issue of crucifying self and self is in the soul you hear me this is what jesus was talking about in the garden of gethsemane the spirit is willing the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak paul said it in romans 7 he said for with what my spirit he said i desire to do the will of god i rejoice but i see another law another war in my members luring against the law of my mind poor souls caught in the middle but listen to me you will either make the soul listen closely you will either make your soul bow to your spirit and the holy spirit and you will be spirit led or you will be soul and fleshly you're going to be led by one of those things all right let me read this verse again are you all okay with this i hope you're learning something all right let's read it in i'm gonna read it in the king james and i'm gonna read it in the amplified for you he said for the word of god the logos that means what got what was written for the word of god is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of the soul and spirit it's going to divide and show you what is soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents or purposes of the heart all right let me read the amplified because this is just good listen to this this is the amplified version for the word that god speaks is alive and full of power making it active operative energizing and effective it is sharper than any
two-edged sword penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life of the soul and of the immortal spirit and of the joints and marrow of the deepest parts of our nature exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart oh let me give you an illustration mother teresa mother teresa was a completely soulish christian not led by the spirit not obedient to the holy spirit at all let me explain that all right what she did in going to help the poor and those orphans in india was a wonderful thing okay it's a good thing all right but it was an emotionally based thing okay how do i know this because i know that mother teresa did not believe the scriptures she taught and believed that all religions led to god she was a universalist she was not a christian so all of her good deeds and it was good to help orphans and it's good to help children not saying it wasn't good but that desire that she had and that willingness to go to india and to do that work was clearly out of her emotional connection to want to help children now even though that's good her spiritual life she worshipped mary said hindus went to heaven buddhists went to heaven that everybody goes to heaven whether they accept jesus or not so she was never led by the spirit of truth she never let the sword of the spirit come in there and separate the truth from her emotions she believed she would go to heaven because she took care of orphans no mother teresa i'm sorry you don't go to heaven for good works you don't go to heaven for even caring for poor people as good as those things are you don't you have to be born again you have to turn from sin and you have to walk with god worshiping him in spirit and in truth you have to sever between your emotions this is why first corinthians 13 the love chapter says that you can give everything to the poor and your body to be burned and still not have love see that's hard for the worldly soulish
carnal unsaved person and even for many christians who just live christianity out of their soul that's hard for them to comprehend what do you mean i could go give everything i have to the poor and give my body to be burned and die trying to help someone and that's not showing love that's showing human emotional love it has nothing to do with the love of god that exalts the truth above everything else and see ultimately what she did to many people is through her soul work her emotional christian work she damned people to eternal hell by not giving them the truth of the gospel that only jesus christ can save you you've got to turn from your hindu gods your buddhist gods you've got to turn from these idols and these sins and accept jesus as the only lord and savior so she helped no one for eternity say soulish christianity is damning christianity because only the truth sets the captives free amen see jesus said i am the way the truth and the life no man's coming to the father but by me if you don't confess me before men if you're ashamed of me say i will be ashamed of you timothy ii timothy 2 he says guess what if we deny him he will deny us it says if you don't have the son you don't have the father either there is no bypassing jesus christ for salvation and guess what if you don't preach the truth that jesus preached you don't have jesus even though you may name the name of jesus see i bring up mother teresa because for many people that's an emotional issue oh mother teresa she was a godly woman she was the same she helped those orphans for years how could you dare speak about her you my friend are an emotional soulish christian my heart grieves and is broken that that woman gave her life to help other people and yet in the end she died and went to hell and so did many of the people she left she died in idolater she died a universalist she died without knowing the true jesus christ of the bible well i'll probably get hate mail from this one but i'm sorry see here's the thing some people think i'm harsh sometimes but the the reason that that sounds harsh is because i'm not emotionally
involved in mother teresa i can look at her and go yeah she did a wonderful thing helping orphans and feeding the poor but she was lost because she didn't believe the truth of the bible and she didn't follow jesus christ and she didn't stand up for him you see what i'm saying and she worshiped mary and everything else so see i'm not you see how truth separates between what is emotional and what is spirit the holy spirit listen to me the holy spirit's only involved in one thing the truth amen matter of fact one of his names that jesus said was the name of the holy spirit is the spirit of truth that's why it's impossible to worship god unless you worship him in spirit and truth right he told the woman at the well she said you know our fathers say worship in this mountain and you're say that one and you know what he didn't say oh it's okay it doesn't really matter what you do he said no you worship you don't know what you worship he said salvation is of the jews so you know what jesus did he said your religion is wrong lady salvation is of the jews but there's a day coming when the true worshipers will worship the father in spirit and in truth that's what he's seeking for spirit and truth let me tell you right now there is no truth outside of the word of god if it contradicts the word the written word of god genesis the malachi and matthew to revelation it is not the truth this world you cannot make up your own truth the truth of god the only truth the eternal truth is what god said in this book and that's all on judgment day when we all stand before god to give an account of our lives we are going to be judged by what is written in this book called the bible we're going to be judged whether we believed it and whether we lived it and whether we preached it tough stuffing i know it's time i'm gonna show you one illustration we're gonna quit just go to one more go to matthew chapter 16. i want to show you peter doing this real fast i think you need a biblical illustration matthew 16. verse 13. everybody there nod your head at me all right here we go matthew 16 verse 13 he said when jesus
came into the coast of caesarea philippi he asked his disciples saying who do men say that i the son of man am and they said some say that you are john the baptist and some elijah and others jeremiah are one of the prophets and he saith to them but whom say ye that i am and simon peter answered and said thou art the christ the son of the living god look what jesus said he said jesus answered and said blessed art thou simon arjonah for flesh and blood has not revealed this unto thee but my father which is in heaven in other words you didn't figure this out through your own intellect through your own body through your senses or even your soul's reasoning jesus said my father has revealed this to you and who reveals things holy spirit so god supernaturally revealed the truth to peter's spirit he just blurted it out and said you are the christ the son of the living god wow peter there's no way you could have known that that is a supernatural revelation from the spirit of god to your spirit it's wonderful when god overrides our our stupidity right and boom we can just blurt out something and be it's god right let's keep reading he tells in verse 18 he says i say unto thee you are peter upon this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and of course that wasn't the catholic church at all he said i will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven now look then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was jesus the christ okay now let's keep going at this point verse 21 very important it says from that time forth began jesus to show unto his disciples how that he must go into jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and the chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised again the third day now here jesus begins to reveal to them i am going to be taken by the chief by the scribes by the priest i am going to be crucified killed and i will be raised against i mean he tells them long before he's explaining this is what's going to happen guys now you got to remember he just said peter just said by the revelation of the holy spirit through his spirit he just said thou art the christ the son of the living god right now he gets into the soul he did that by his spirit now he's about to do something by so so jesus is telling him i'm going to go be killed be raised again look at verse 22 then peter took him and began to rebuke him saying be it far from thee lord this shall not be unto thee
look what jesus did but he turned and said unto peter get thee behind me satan thou art an offense to me for thou savers not the things that be of god but those that be of men then said jesus unto his disciples if any man will come to me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me now this is he's talking about the soul deny your see peter loved jesus peter didn't want jesus to die he didn't want him to go away he didn't understand that that's what he had to do so when jesus starts talking about this peter's emotions are involved so his soul gets involved in this and and through his soul he says something completely stupid lord this isn't going to be now listen if jesus was talking and you believe jesus is the christ son of the living god and he always does the things that please the father and he's always saying what the father tells him to say if he's saying he's going to go and be taken of the scribes and the pharisees you should just say you know what yeah okay lord that's what you say i believe i don't understand it so he's trying to lean to his own understanding he's trying to lean to his own understanding he was trying to lean to his emotions and yet peter said this i mean jesus said this type of thinking is of satan this is satanic when you try to do christianity you try to live for me out of your soul your own reasoning and your own emotions you are going to screw it up no matter how many times you said things right before okay you hear me because look what he starts talking he starts talking about denying self and then he refers to the soul here and he says if any man will come after me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me for whosoever will save his life shall lose it and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it for what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul and what shall a man give in exchange for his soul for the son of man shall come in in the glory of his father with the angels and then shall he then he shall reward every man according to his works so he's telling peter here was was peter committing adultery was peter committing the sin of drunkenness was peter lying no peter was simply entering into his own reasoning and the soul it sounded good no no lord they're not going to kill you no no lord that's not going to be to you see how it can sound good but it was totally based and charged out of peter's emotional attachment out of his own reasoning and jesus said this kind of thinking is an offense to me it hinders the will of god it hinders
the plan of god it hinders the flow of the spirit in your life to do the will of god see how do how do we how do we put the soul in check can we tell you how you put the soul in check you take the sword of the spirit which is the word of god and you say you know what i may not understand it but let god be true and every man of liar it may not make my emotions feel good but it's god's word and it's true and i accept that truth and trust god see we've had people in here come and go because of emotions because of soulless christianity because they couldn't handle the truth but it's because they're either emotionally attached to they don't want to accept the fact their children are lost and going to hell or they don't want to accept the fact that you know roman catholicism is false or they don't want to accept the fact that you know what we are in the end times and it's just the way it is and you're going to you know you're going to have to deal with those with that truth that's not comfortable to our emotions and our own reasoning and let me just say this god is always what is of the spirit and of the word well always great it will always great against selfish emotional motivation always so not only do you have to crucify the flesh you have to crucify the soulish emotional human reasoning responses to the gospel and to the word of god you have to and and and i'm gonna end with this i'm just gonna say this you know there are people out there they're atheists and agnostics and people that come up with all these crazy arguments and accusations and and problems with the word of god and you know what i believe there are some things in the bible that i go okay god you know it i i don't understand i i you know you here but here's what i'm getting at i think the lord left some things unexplained he could have told us how long creation took he didn't he said seven day i mean six days before there were even the sun and the moon were even created so was that earth days doesn't say maybe it was millions of years in between we know mankind's been here on this
planet only about 6 000 years that's a fact but then if you start arguing that the earth is only six thousand years oh well maybe it is maybe it didn't how how long between god created the heavens and the earth and the earth was without form and void and darkness covered the face of the deep and he moved upon that how long between verse one and verse two no one knows so the material that the earth's made out of could be millions of years old but when god finally finished forming it so that we could live on it that's about 6 000 years but see you get what i'm saying we start trying to lean to our own understanding and arguing he said don't i just trust god you know what i believe i believe he made the heavens and the earth i don't care how long it took in in our physical time i don't care if it took him six real days he could do it or he took millions of years to do it in our time span makes no difference to me god created the heavens and the earth i believe it it's the truth that settles it for me you can argue you can fuss you can fight you can reason you can you know what i'm saying you can do all those things you want to do but i know there's a god who made this place amen it's not emotional he just did it i don't have to believe is near as much foolishness and and have faith in the stuff they got to have faith in happen and all this just happened by accident a lot of coincidences a lot of perfect accidents to make it all work but anyway let's pray thank you jesus hallelujah father we ask you lord to take this truth and these truths about being spiritual christians versus being soulish and carnal and help us to become more spiritual father i believe your word and i believe it's true and i ask you lord to help us to do the things that will make us more spiritual and humble and to sharpen the our human spirit to be in the word so that we can see ourselves so we can know the truth so we can divide between what is soul and spirit to be in prayer to pray in the in tongues in the spirit so that we can strengthen our spirit man to fast when we need to fast to be more concerned with spirit things spiritual things and truth than we are with emotions lord help us to to absorb this and to incorporate it to our lives
and grow up as christians father i pray this in jesus name
