About this sermon

In “The Foundation of God,” Pastor Dean Odle presents a Scripture-centered message about a biblical foundation, the condition of the church, faith. Drawing especially from 1 Thessalonians 5, Psalm 11, 1 Corinthians 11:1-4, Isaiah 9:6, the teaching emphasizes that a durable Christian life must be built on Christ, sound doctrine, and obedient response to Scripture. Odle connects that foundation with the conviction that the church is called to recover biblical faithfulness instead of accommodating compromise.

struggling with some things. So, I want you to just, you know, step out there, be bold. Don't be ashamed of the gospel. Remember, the gospel is not just that Jesus died for sins and rose from the dead. That's of course the most wonderful thing, but the gospel is also that he bore our sicknesses and our infirmities. He came to set us free from the demonic forces that that latch on to us and oppress us and and so, there's a lot of people out there that need they need the true gospel. They need to understand what it means to repent, and they're going to need somebody to explain it to them. And they're going to need some deliverance, and they're going to need some healing. And that's what God's called his church to do. Amen? Hallelujah. So, take that word right there as God's saying, "I'm ready to I'm ready now." Amen? Don't look to a day in the future to do something for God. Do it now. Amen? All right. Hallelujah. Don't despise prophesying, the Bible says. Tongues and interpretation in the church is equivalent to prophecy. Amen? So, don't despise prophesying. 1 Thessalonians 5, don't despise prophesying. Prove all things. Hold fast to that which is good. Amen? The Lord is with us. And that's one thing I can say for sure. I can judge that prophecy there, that interpretation. I know the Lord is with us. God is moving in new and fresh ways. Amen? Hallelujah. And he's moving all over the place. Um, I've shared with you a word God gave me back a a few, I don't know, maybe it was a couple of months ago, two or three months ago, but I was praying right there on that couch is where I usually pray in the mornings. And I was praying and the Lord just spoke to me and he said, "You know, our little church is and he said, "You guys are the the five loaves and the two fish." All right, not much. Just a little boy's lunch. But, Jesus took that and Jesus is able by his power and by his anointing and by his favor to to use us to touch thousands of people and we're seeing that happen right now. Um but I believe that uh I believe we're going to do more than just just what's going on through the internet and through our different outreaches, through all that, but God wants us to reach this city. Amen. This region, Opelika and Auburn. And you know, a lot of people think, well, you know, this this city's full of churches. We're in the South. We're full of churches, yeah? We are full of churches, but sadly, most of them do not preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. They preach a version of it uh that's watered down that's actually so watered down that it's become a false representation of Jesus. But, this was the warning of the Apostle Paul. He said that, you know, there would come a time they would not endure sound doctrine, but they would heap to themselves teachers having itching ears, right?

  2. 0:03:02

He said that time would come and we are in that time, right? But, he told his people to preach the word, to be instant in season and out of season, to reprove and rebuke and to correct with all long-suffering, right? And doctrine. So, we're going to look at the scriptures this morning. The Lord's given me a a message I think we need to look at, but uh I'm just simply going to call it the foundation of God. Cuz I felt like that's what he spoke to me this morning. Did everybody take your Bibles and turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 3. 1 Corinthians chapter 3. You know, there's a scripture while you're turning there, I'll just give it to you. You can write it down, jot it down, look it up. But, it's Psalm 11 verse 3. And David wrote there, "If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?" Right? The foundation. And the foundation of God is is important because you know what I'm finding out? I'm finding out that there are a lot of people who call themselves Christians in this world who are not even established on the basic foundation of of God, the basic foundation of Jesus Christ. They're not even They They think they know Jesus, or they think they know about him because they know his name, or they might know a few scriptures. But, what I'm finding out is many Christian people don't even understand who he is. Much less what it takes to follow him, what it takes to be saved, to be born again, what it means to become a disciple, what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit and walk in power, and what it means to walk in holiness. I mean, that's almost a bad word now in the church world, holiness. Now, if you say that word, you're legalistic. Right? That God actually demands holiness uh from his people. So, let's let's look at this. We're going to go through a few scriptures and then, you know, just go wherever the where the Lord says here, but let's go to uh 1 Corinthians chapter Look at verse 1. Paul's speaking to this church and he says, "And I, brethren, cannot speak unto you as under spiritual, but as under carnal, even as under babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk and not with meat, for hitherto you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able. For ye are yet carnal. For whereas there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are you not carnal and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos, are you not carnal? Who then is Paul, or who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believe? Even as the Lord gave to every man. I have a I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So

  3. 0:06:03

then neither is he that planteth anything, neither is he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one, and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are laborers together with God. And you are God's husbandry, you are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me as a wise master builder, Paul said, here I have laid the foundation and another buildeth thereon. He says, but let every man take heed how he builds thereon. Now look at verse 11. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now we could say that much easier than I guess it's written here a little difficult, but no there's no other foundation that can be laid except the foundation of Jesus Christ. But what and if we let the devil come in or the church world, the seminary world, the theological world, we've let the devil come in and change this. What happened? I'm going to read another scripture before we go on, but notice it says here what? That there is no other foundation except Jesus Christ. Now we have to identify him, right? We got to be sure we know who we're talking about. Why is that? Well, flip on over and go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 11. 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 Because Paul warned about people coming preaching another Jesus, another gospel, and having another spirit. Now, this is some of the stuff I've I've preached to you guys a good bit, but I'm going to go a little different direction with it hopefully today and help you. But, here is what he said. This is why he said, "No other foundation can be laid but the foundation of Jesus Christ." So, we need to look at who Jesus is because Paul warned in 2nd Corinthians 11:1-4 he said, "Would to God that you could bear with me a little in my folly, and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But, I fear lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus whom you have not preached, or if you receive another spirit which you have not received, or if or another gospel which you have not accepted, notice he warns. He see he tells them, "You might well bear with them. You might accept it."

Listen, there are a lot of churches out here. There are a lot of big, pretty, fancy churches. There's a lot of big denominations out here that claim to preach Jesus. They claim to preach the gospel. They claim to have the Holy Spirit. But, I'm going to tell you right now, many of them do not have the real Jesus. They do not preach the true gospel, and they do not have the Holy Ghost. I don't even care if they have signs and wonders and miracles going on. And right now, in these last days that we're living in that Jesus warned us about, we are at epidemic proportions of this false Jesus being preached. This blew me away. You know, I made a statement on my Dino Ministries Facebook page this past week about Jesus Christ being God in the flesh. Now, this is foundational Christian doctrine that's clearly in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Our Lord is one Lord. God Almighty, the creator, is one God who manifests himself in three different ways, but he is not three different gods. He is not three different beings, and Jesus Christ is not somehow lesser and somehow a created being or did or had a beginning. But yet, there are many people out there who call themselves Christians that believe say they believe in God the Father, but that they don't believe that Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh. Now, we might look at this in a little depth this morning, but still here I'm I'm My mind's boggled. I mean, because of the verse that comes to my mind, one of my favorites, is of course Isaiah 9:6 that we should know that's on Christmas cards every year, right? That's you even see in secular places all, you know, around Christmas time every year you see Isaiah 9:6. Behold, what? A child is born. A son is given. And his name will be called what? Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. Right? The Old Testament prophet Isaiah called this son who would be born, this child who would be born, who would be a son, he called him the Mighty God, not a mighty God. That's right. Call him the everlasting father. And then when Jesus looks at Philip and we're in John 14 and Philip is standing there and he says to Jesus, even Jesus' disciples were confused about this. And Philip says, "Show us the father." This is John 14. Show us the father. And what does Jesus say to him? He turns to him and he says, "Philip, have I not been so long a time with you?
