lord your word declares that your spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of god i mean there are times that you reveal yourself by your tangible presence and we thank you for your presence for your power for the moving of the holy spirit god there's nothing more precious in this world than the moving of the holy spirit upon your people where we thank you now just lead us in your word this morning anoint your word this morning guide us and put a hunger and thirst in us for your word and for more of the holy spirit to have his way in our lives in jesus name amen you may be seated this morning somebody say hallelujah in this place glory glory glory to god you know it's been on my heart for some time to share what i'm about to share with you this morning and it's not like it's new but you know uh it behooves a pentecostal church to explain why it's pentecostal and what that means amen and i'll tell you i'm about tired of the blind guides out there there are a bunch of blind guides out there now we're going to start in an unusual place but today we're going to talk about the baptism of the holy spirit but we're going to go about it a different way but i want you to have your bibles and i want you to follow along with me real well because this is important this is important for the church of jesus to get this there are many believers that uh that need to pursue the baptism of the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues and begin to operate in the other gifts that is god's call and destiny upon your life if you don't do that you're really short-circuiting some of the things that god wants to do with you it's that simple now we're not a church that gets crazy with it says you have to speak in tongues to be saved or you have to speak in tongues to go to heaven it's not about that it's about you being able to be filled with the holy spirit to pray supernaturally to hear from god better to operate in the gifts of the spirit where you can hear god's voice better and minister to other people better it's to help you in every facet of your christian life and why these blind guides block people from this i will never know i had a little discussion with a guy that i'm friends with on facebook he's a minister up in uh new jersey and he made a little or a friend of his made a little snide comment that he seemed to agree with about basically all charismatics are crazy and so i had to say something as i do
sometimes and i just sat here and go you know i said and i know he's calvinist so i said well that would be like me saying all calvinist or heretics i said but anyway so we started a little discussion about it but i'm just blown away by the people within the body of christ and some of them are arrogant and prideful and some of them are sincere but sincerely wrong about the baptism of the holy spirit and the gifts of the spirit operating in the church now let me just say this morning that there's a difference between being a pentecostal or a charismatic and being what i call a charismatic okay there's a big difference and listen you can get in the ditch when it comes to the holy spirit and the gifts of the holy spirit and the power of god and and the supernatural you can get in either side of the ditch you can get in the side of the ditch that says you know that's not for today those gifts have ceased and you can have a dead dry church service like most baptists will have this morning and most presbyterians i know there's a church in montgomery of rich presbyterians that they they enjoy calling themselves the frozen chosen they really do they laugh at it i don't think it's funny right god said to be hot be on fire quench not the spirit he's saying to be sit in the pew and be cold and dead that is completely contrary to new testament christianity but then on the other hand we got people like you know some of those involved in in the ihop movement of mike bickel and some of the others out there that are getting into everything from trying to levitate to um you know to pray in uh buddhist and hindu type prayers repetition and trying to visualize things themselves and they're over and operating in the occult and so you got people that because they've seen the errors in the in the pentecostal and charismatic church world they've seen people go to extremes they basically say well i'm not gonna have anything to do with that and so their bias blocks them from seeing what's plainly written in the word i mean it's just blinded what's interesting is is that you know the bible and everybody knows that the bible talks about the pharisees and the sadducees remember they were the ones that primarily opposed jesus rome wasn't even really opposed to jesus they would let him just do what he was going to do but it was it was really the religious folk right and the religious folk when i say the religious folk i'm talking about the religious folk who said they believed in the holy scriptures who said they believed in the coming of the messiah who said they believed in in the word of god as it is written from genesis to malachi because that's all they had then right they said they believe they're just like us today we've got a bunch of people that call themselves christians that say we believe the word of god but yet parts of it reject parts of it and are
blinded because of either their pride their arrogance or their or whatever they're blinded for different reasons some of them are just too educated for their own good they're educated fools right because let me tell you if you're educated in the wrong thing that didn't help you right you got to be educated in the truth and i just i hate to say it but most bible colleges and seminaries today are nothing but but heresy factories that's all they are they're dead dry religious institutions that's been infiltrated by jesuit priests and and false teachers and that is what is producing most of the pastors and ministers today i'm afraid today that's just the way it is right but when when the bible talks about the pharisees and the sadducees paul said something interesting about him and he ought to know because he was a pharisee right so go did you turn to acts chapter 23 right now this is when paul went to jerusalem after he had been uh he had a word of warning kind of from the prophet agabus and he had a little word of warning but it wasn't don't go it was just if you go this is what's going to happen and paul of course knew he was supposed to go and he went of course an uproar took place and he went into the temple and of course they seized him and they brought him to a council and this is chapter 23 verse one let's go to this i want you to see the difference that paul stated between the pharisees and the sadducees both groups that jesus called blind guides both groups that he told his disciples do not catch yourself falling for the leaven of the pharisees and the sadducees well what was part of their leaven not just their rejection of jesus as the messiah it was their inability to discern when the holy spirit was moving when the demon was moving they just blocked that out and we need to you just need to see this because the pharisees and sadducees are still with us today okay acts 23 verse 1 and paul earnestly beholding the council said men and brethren i have lived in all good conscience before god unto this day and the high priest ananias commanded them that stood by to smite him on the mouth then said paul unto him god shall smite thee thou whited wall for sins thou to judge me after the law and command me to be smitten contrary to the law and they that stood by said revile us thou god's high priest and then said paul i wish not or i knew not brother and that he was the high priest for it is written thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people but when paul perceived that the one part were sadducees and the other part pharisees he cried
out in the council men and brethren i am a pharisee the son of a pharisee of the hope and resurrection of the dead i am called into question and when he had said so there were rows of dissension between the pharisees and the sadducees and the multitude was divided he knew how to divide them for the sadducees tell me that there is no resurrection neither angel nor spirit but the pharisees confessed both and there were rose of great cry and the scribes that were of the pharisees part or rose and strove saying we find no evil in this man but if a spirit an angel has spoken unto him let us not fight against god and when there arose a great dissension the chief captain feared unless paul should have been pulled in pieces of them commanded the soldiers to go to him to take him by force from among them to bring him into the castle and that night following of the night following the lord stood by him and said be of good cheer paul for i as thou has testified of me in jerusalem so must thou bear witness also at rome now this is interesting because he points out he knew you know basically satan's principle divide and conquer right but here's the thing look at what it says about the pharisees and the sadducees the sadducees said there's no spirit there's no angel there's no resurrection basically what the sadducees were where they were a bunch of religious leaders who didn't believe in the supernatural power of god they were politically motivated they were money motivated they were not true believers in the god of creation who made everything and let me just ask you this if god is almighty and all powerful enough to create the heavens and the earth and the sun and the moon and the stars and everything in the universe and he can make man and he can make everything perfect how does somehow he cease at some point being supernatural when he is supernatural is god in the natural world is god just part of the natural world or is he beyond the natural world i mean just the very nature of god if you say i believe in god you're saying i believe in something beyond the natural i believe in something supernatural something spiritual something more powerful than myself so how can you say you're religious how can you say you're a christian and you can say that the miracles ceased and the in tongues ceased and prophecy ceased and the gifts of the holy spirit sees after the first how can you say that i mean you're literally saying that the supernatural god decided all of a sudden to cease being supernatural it's blasphemy to be honest with you it's irrelevant it's illogical it's just incorrect it's just that simple it's just blows my mind but you had the sadducees you had those that
denied the resurrection that denied the supernatural power that deny that angels and spirits were operating so they don't want to talk about angels they didn't want to talk about demons they didn't want to talk about healing and miracles they didn't want to talk about anything but now let's remember he said the pharisees confessed both so the pharisees were the other group they were the group that we have today that says i believe in the gifts of the holy spirit i believe in the supernatural i believe that demons and angels exist i believe in all these things but they don't operate in them or pursue them and if anybody comes along like jesus did and starts casting demons out of people and healing people guess what happens you're they're doing that by the devil by bill's above well wait a minute you say you believe in these things right why were sons of the high priest trying to cast demons out of a guy right acts chapter 19. see this is what i'm getting at [Music] we got them all over the place today what i would call the sadducees today are your liberal theologians that don't believe the bible they really should just go on and be atheist and leave us alone get out of our bible schools get out of our churches get out of the pulpits get away from us because they're just devils okay but then there's the pharisees don't tell me pastor first baptist or whatever or pastor of first methodist or pastor don't tell me oh i believe that the gifts of the holy spirit are for today but we just don't operate don't tell me that well i believe god's supernatural but i don't believe in healing anymore knowing people but i'm praying for the sick we don't do that in our church okay then you're a pharisee right and don't dare if i speak in tongues and cast out demons and try to pray for the sick in the mighty name of jesus christ don't for a second say i'm doing it by the power of a demon because now you you're now you're tiptoeing over into the realm of blasphemy of the holy spirit right you better not tiptoe over there too far you won't get back the serious crime right so i wanted you to see that these the pharisees and the sadducees are still with us all right jesus said don't get caught up in their doctrine let me just show you that verse where jesus said don't get caught up in the leaven of the pharisees and the sadducees go back to matthew chapter 16. we'll just look at that real quick and then
i want to encourage you to do something matthew 16 here well i thank god that when i was a 19 year old converted on fire young believer that i just read the bible and i didn't listen to pastors when i talk about pastors i mean the pharisees and the sadducees pastors amen i just read the bible for myself got to the book of acts saw the apostles and 120 get filled with the holy spirit and speak in tongues it was just way hey if they needed this otherwise simple and it's amazing how awesome you can be when you you're not being uh taught or indoctrinated against what the bible says by people who say they know the bible it's amazing and listen and the reason i'm bringing this up today is because there are people listening to us there are people going to listen to these podcasts and there's some people in here that still aren't baptized in the holy spirit you're saved you love jesus you believe in jesus if i asked you you'd say yes i believe in the gifts of the holy spirit and all that but you're not baptized in the holy spirit you've never had that experience you don't even know what it means or and or you're afraid or you're you just hadn't taken that step to understand that you have to pursue being filled with the holy spirit and speaking in other tongues and operating against you have to desire it you have to earn this desire that's what paul said you have to want it you have to go after that that experience and that infilling and want to operate in it god's not going to make you i mean you have to desire to be filled with the holy spirit you have to take the step out of the boat to walk on the water if you sit in the boat you're going to you're not going to walk on the water as simple as that right so any and you know if it wasn't important why is it in the bible so many times in the new testament and even in the old testament right what are you saying here about but the to be aware of the doctrine of the pharisees i love this right here look at verse verse 1 matthew 16 verse 1 the pharisees also with the sadducees came and tempting him desired that that he would show them a sign from heaven and he answered and said unto them when it is evening you say it will be fair weather for the sky is red and in the morning it will be foul weather today for the sky is red and lowering oh you hypocrites you can discern the face of the sky but you cannot discern the signs of the times a wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign but there shall no sign be given to it but the sign of the prophet jonas jonah rather which was something supernatural what jesus being raised from the dead on the third day was the sign of the prophet jonah and he left them and departed and when his disciples were come to the other side they had forgotten to take bread
and then jesus said unto them take heed that ye beware of the of the level of the pharisees and the sadducees and the reason among themselves is that because we have taken no bread which when jesus perceived he said to them oh you have little faith why reason among yourselves because you have taken no bread i mean i can't remember as jesus said what are y'all talking about blood i'm not talking about bread snap out of it hear what i'm saying you can almost get the frustration he said do you not yet understand neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up neither or neither the seven loads or the four thousand how many baskets you took up don't you get your mind off of bread i can i can i can feed thousands of people with a piece of bread get your mind off of bread he said what i'm warning you of is what he says how is it that you do not understand that i spoke unto you concerning bread that you should beware of the leaven of the pharisees and the sadducees then understood they how that he made them not beware of the leaven of bread but of the doctrine of the pharisees and the sadducees so the doctrine of the pharisees and the soviets according to paul in acts was how they denied the supernatural the sadducees and the pharisees was how they said they believed it but didn't operate in it uh oh uh oh and then persecute and criticize people who did like jesus and his apostles then we'll have those people in the church oh yeah all charismatics are crazy like that that was a that was a slap that was a that was a put down that was a verbal persecution little thing right there all charismatics are crazy really you know what i say to you if you deny the holy spirit you deny the gifts of the holy spirit you deny the power of god it's still available in operation today then you're a dead dry person who's quenching the fire of the holy spirit in your life [Music] and i guarantee you i have more bible to stand on than they do right now let's look at this it's real simple y'all let's lay out a few scriptures go to isaiah 28. we're talking about the baptism the holy spirit the evidence of speaking in other tongues that's the beginning that's the sign classic pentecostal belief is that the initial evidence or the sign that you have been baptized in the holy spirit is the gift of tongues beginning to operate now when the bible says you're saved when you get saved when you're born again the spirit of god does come in you
so the apostles were saved and this is even after the resurrection of jesus they're saved they're born again because jesus came and breathed on them and said receive you the holy spirit in john 20. he said breathe on him receive the holy spirit so they were born again at that moment their spirits were regenerated after the resurrection of jesus after they believed on him and his resurrection and he breathed on them and the supernatural power of the spirit entered them then he says to those same people that he just breathed on and said receive the holy spirit he says to those same people go to jerusalem and wait for the promise of the father for you will be baptized with the holy ghost not many days hints so he was saying there's something else after you're saved there's something else after you're born again there's more of the holy spirit i want you to have and the sign of that is you will be filled and overflowing with the gifts of tongues and you will be endured with power from on high to be a witness to the world and don't go do anything ministry-wise until you've been filled baptized with the holy spirit talking to people who had walked with him for three and a half years [Music] talking to people who were already healed the sick and and and think about this if jesus breathes on you and says receive the holy spirit do you think you receive i would think so right it's like those soldiers that came looking for him that night they see he said who do you who you seek it they said jesus of nazareth he said i am he and when he said those words it said they went backwards and fell to the ground power of the holy spirit hit a fool and they went to the ground what amazes me is they got up and asked again i think of a man spoken and not me on the ground i might think twice before trying to arrest him [Music] right all right now let's look at this isaiah 28 this is the prophecy old testament prophecy that god was going to do something new and it was going to be with the gift of tongues all right and paul quotes this in 1st corinthians 14 when he's explaining to them how the gift of tongues is to operate within a church service okay and here's what he said this is the prophecy of isaiah and he says this verse 11 for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people to whom he said this is the rest where with you may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they would not hear so god said here specifically with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people to whom he said this is the rest
and the refreshing now we know this is a reference to the the gift of unknown tongues operating in a person's life because paul used it in first corinthians 14 and we may turn there in a second but we know that because we know that the apostle was directed specifically by jesus and the holy spirit to write what he wrote and so we know the context we know the explanation we don't have to guess right so he says with stammering lips and another tongue will he god speak to this people why is that let me tell you something when you're baptized in the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues and you start exercising that gift and praying in tongues in your private prayer time as paul did he said i will pray with the spirit or with tongues i will pray with the understanding also when you do that what you're doing he said the man or the woman that prays in an unknown tongue edifies himself or builds up or strengthens his his spirit so what happens is when you're praying in an unknown tongue you're edifying you're strengthening your spirit man which enables your spirit man to be more sensitive to the holy spirit to hear god's voice and he said in the same chapter first corinthians 14. we're going to turn there a second but he said in the same chapter let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret what does that mean well if you're to pray and ask what you're saying and the bible just said that you're praying the will of god when you get the interpretation that's god speaking to you and revealing to you his will in a matter all right that's why it says in isaiah 28 for with stammering lips and another tongue will he god speak to you he also says that this is a rest and a refreshing that comes to you when you do this oh boy but see why do we don't and and listen there's some of us that are baptized in the holy spirit have the gift of tongues and we don't use it in our prayer times nearly enough right and yet god said this is the way i want to speak to you this is a way i want to give you spiritual emotional and physical rest this is the way i want to refresh you how many of you say it's a good thing to hear god to hear from god to know god's will in a matter amen this is an important issue but notice what he says this is what's amazing he prophesied the rejection by most of the church world of the baptism of the holy spirit in the gift of tongues because he said this look here in the prophecy for with stammering lips in another tongue will he speak to this people to whom he said this is the rest wherewith you may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they
would not hear they would not hear a refusal to hear the sound doctrine in the bible sound doctrine sound hermeneutics sound teaching clear scriptures well let me give you an example this guy said to me that paul condemned speaking in tongues and the gifts of the spirit condemn them in first corinthians 12-14 and i sat there and go you are wrong brother he did not condemn them he gave the parameters for them how to operate in a service and ended the chapter 14 with forbid not to speak with thugs [Music] and i'm sitting there going i told him you're blind you're just blind i don't understand truly a sadducee truth and you know what i love the guy i call him he gets out and tries to preach the gospel on the street i mean he's doing what he knows to do but he's just he's bound up eating up messed up with calvinism and all this all this anti charismatic pentecostal bias that he's been fed in his life it gets weary it just gets worrisome watching willful ignorance spiritual blindness i mean can you imagine jesus think about this matthew 12. jesus is sitting there he cast the demons out of a boy that's death and dumb now he cast the demons out of a boy death and dog and he's healed he can speak he can hear the pharisees and the sadducees should have been dancing around and happy oh no oh no [Music] no no he must have cast out these demons he must have the prince of the demons he must have bales above jesus had to give a whole speech satan does not cast out satan or his kingdom is divided but folks they're with us today they're all over the place and what's sad here's what's sad what's sad is so many of their sheep in these churches so many of the people they're not resisting the truth they've just never been taught
but their pastors at some point had to confront it because us charismatic and pentecostals we're kind of pushy we're kind of that little annoying we're the monkey and the rich right we're the fly annoying we kind of gnaw at you and go hmm what about that what about that verse those whole chapters on this side you know i think a lot of them would just like us to go away shut up quit talking about this and you know what's what's sad is a lot of pentecostal and charismatic churches have stopped talking about the need to be baptized in the holy spirit to speak in tongues to operate in the gift of interpretation word of knowledge word of wisdom healing miracles discerning of spirits prophecy and and i don't even get this you know acts chapter 2 after they're baptized in the holy spirit says the 120 you know are baptized in the holy spirit all of them are filled and speak with other tongues right and then peter stands up to preach and the first thing he says and it shall come to pass in the last day saith god that i will pour out my spirit on all flesh your sons and your daughters will prophesize your young men will seek visions and your old men will dream dreams and i pour my spirit out on your handmaidens and on your servants and they will prophesy in the last days how's it done away with in the first century how has it been away with but the bible says in the last days the gift of prophecy is going to work even stronger even on your sons and your daughters i just i'm i just i'm marvel at the religious arrogance and blindness you can read those verses like i read them what is wrong with you if you you're gonna sit there it's blue and you're gonna tell me it's green well it says it's blue do we speak english let me just like that guy paul condemned forbidden people who were speaking to no he didn't this is crazy kooky talk all right now let me show you something let's let's y'all know the verses acts chapter 2 acts chapter 10 acts chapter 19. we may look at those in a second but go with me to first corinthians 13 let's look at the one verse that they pull out of context mangle and twist to try to prove that the gifts have ceased after the the bible was completed i'm just blown away he pulled this out on me this morning thank you andrew for inspiring a a wonderful discussion that we need to have this morning [Music] are you ready first corinthians 13.
now first corinthians 13 is sandwich right between 12 and 14. right y'all don't mind if i have a little fun today come on y'all smile at me a little bit right i know i'm being a little facetious but hey first corinthians 13 happens to be between two other chapters right now in chapter 12 let's look at chapter 12 real quick what does he say here in verse 1. now concerning spiritual gifts brethren i would not have you ignorant i don't want you to be ignorant have you ever thought about this if if you say that the gifts of the holy spirit have ceased for the church today then what you're really saying is that all this that paul wrote about them in first corinthians and thessalonians in romans what you're really saying is that what paul wrote's not for us today those things he wrote about that's not for us [Music] you're on dangerous ground when you start saying stuff like that because i have another verse of scripture first timothy 3 16. you know what it says all scripture is given by inspiration of god and is profitable for doctrine for instruction oh uh-huh all scripture so when you start saying oh no that doesn't apply especially new testament stuff doesn't apply to a new testament church well we've really stepped off into the swamp right all right look at this woman first corinthians 12 he says now concerning spiritual gifts brethren but i would not have you ignorant pretty straightforward right he goes on to talk about all the gifts now look at first corinthians 14 we want to see what it's sandwiched in between first corinthians 14 look at verse one follow after charity or love and desire spiritual gifts oh wait a minute desire you know what desire here means earnestly lust for here's you want to know something you're committed to lust after [Music] to operate in the gifts of the spirit isn't that amazing now let me ask you a question if paul would say in chapter 12 now conserving spiritual gifts i was brother i would not have you ignorant and then in chapter 14 said follow after love and desire spiritual gifts is he going to contradict himself in chapter 13 and say they're not for today they're going to cease doesn't even make sense
right all right so let's look at the verse they use in this all right let's read first corinthians 13 verse one though i speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity or love i am become a sounding brass or a tinkling symbol though i have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and though i have all faith so that i could remove mountains and have not charity or love in action i am nothing and though i bestow all my goods to feed the poor though i give my body to be burned and have not charity or love it profiteth me nothing charity suffers long and is it kind is and is kind charity envy is not charity vault is not itself or does not boast itself it is not puffed up in pride does not behave itself unseemly seeketh not its her own is not easily provoked thinketh no evil rejoices not in iniquity but rejoices in the truth bears all things believes all things all things endures all things charity never fails but whether there be prophecies they shall fail whether there be tongues they shall cease whether they'll be knowledge it shall vanish away why for we know in part and we prophesy in part but when that which is perfect is come then that which is in part shall be done away now this is the verse they try to say that when the bible was finished completed the canon was completed they tried to say that this is what was perfect and that's when the gifts ceased but here's where i've got to ask them a question then did knowledge cease i think for some of them it did but why if you say tongue ceased and prophecy ceased when the bible was completed then so did knowledge so there was no need to study the bible anymore to gain knowledge there was no need to to go to school or to research or to study anything because knowledge ceased [Music] see this is what happens if you start behind things that are clearly written in scripture you begin to look like a fool [Music] okay because it's stupid and in these guys i want to tell you these guys these preachers these pro these professors they harp on hermeneutics i know it's a big fancy word from seminary but hermeneutics simply is the laws of biblical interpretation there's certain laws that we follow to clearly understand the scripture like i've always shared once the bible interprets the bible right number two context context right when it comes to words the law of first
usage and things like that where we look at how a word is used in its beginning when it was first used and then how it's used in the bottom you compare how it's used and you know what it means right these guys harp on hermeneutics the laws of interpretation but don't battle them when it comes to their little pet pockets and traditions that don't match the book they don't like tongues they don't like pentecostals they don't like charismatics they don't like the fact they might have an untidy little service [Music] that they can't control and so they ignore the pharmaceutics being hermeneutically correct on everything else hypocrites i call them for what they are you're a hypocrite you want to be hermeneutically correct about redemption but you're not going to be hermelitically correct about the holy spirit baptism and gifts you are a hypocrite my friend right and that's what jesus looked at him said you hypocrites you can discern the face of the sky but you can't discern this right y'all don't mind playing talk do you i love my brothers at disagreement i love them i pray for them i know some of them are going to come around and their eyes are going to get open but frankly i'm just going to call a call a spade a spade just call it what it is jesus did he look right straight out of your bunch of hypocrites your blind guides your white wash tunes full of dead men's bones you've got the key of knowledge you're supposed to be the leaders and teachers but you won't go in and those that are trying to get you right jesus spoke it plainly to him did that did that mean jesus didn't love them because he spoke plainly to him no he was hoping that they would get take that slap in the face from him and wake up and snap out of their religious blindness and get filled with the holy ghost and get filled with the truth the wrapping the power of god and you know what thank god some of those pharisees did like nicodemus and others some of them you know what walked away we know that you must be from god because no man can do these miracles but nicodemus walked away from them joseph of arimathea [Music] i mean praise god there's some some godly men who who you know were indoctrinated in a certain belief system but finally woke up and said you know what jesus you are the messiah your miracles are from god almighty you are the healer you are the messiah you are the deliverer you're the same yesterday today and forever and then walked away from that listen there's a lot of baptist methodists presbyterian that finally after years of somebody telling them and reading the bible [Music] they finally saw it i mean we got some former baptists in here don't we i was
and you just finally couldn't ignore the scriptures anymore you couldn't ignore the truth right no i don't mind it that's good preaching now look at this here how do we know let's back up he said this is the verse they try to use verse 8 charity never fails but whether there be prophecies they shall fail whether there be tongues they shall cease whether there will be knowledge that shall vanish away for we know in part and we prophesy in part but when that which is perfect is come then that which is in part shall be done away but the word of the chapter is not over with yet there's a few more verses and he tells us first of all let me ask this question does it say anywhere in this verse that when the scriptures the new testament's completed that's perfect no then how can you say that you're making up stuff that's not even there and that's what you have to do if you're going to teach and believe false things you have to make up stuff that doesn't exist right so look what he says he says when i was a child he continues when i was a child i spake as a child i understood as a child i thought as a child but when i became a man i put away childish things now look at what he says for now we see through a glass darkly but then face to face he says now i know in part and then i shall be known even as i am known so he's saying plainly here for now we see through a glass darkly but then face to face what is that talking about face to face when jesus returns or when we die when we see him face to face at that moment the apostle john said in john 1 john 3 that we will be like him for the moment we see him we'll be like him we'll be changed we will be one with the lord we'll have his mind full revelation and understanding of exactly what jesus that's perfect let me just say this jesus is the only one that's perfect even this book right here i believe it's inspired by god i believe it's infallible but it's limited even the apostle john said that of all the things if all the things were written that should have been written that jesus did and said the word itself could not contain the books this is not all there is to god to say that this book right here is more perfect than the lord himself oh no he's that which is perfect when we see him face to face that's when there'll be no need for tongues anymore that's when there'll be no more need for prophecies anymore that's where there'll be no more need for knowledge because we'll have the full revelation and understanding we will have the mind of christ in that moment this is this is what most people realize one day we're going to be one with the lord
when he comes back or when we go be with him we're going to be one with the lord his bride two becoming lord we're gonna be completely have his mind have a body like his in a moment the moment we see him face to face full knowledge now how do we know this too here's another hint to this [Music] see matter of fact look at look at first john three hold your spot here in corinthians look at first john three i've been quoting a lot of stuff i guess i need to turn to you look but just so you know face to face is when that which is perfect when we will know when knowledge will be not needed anymore first john chapter 3 verse 1. everybody there first john 3 says behold what manner of love the father has bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of god therefore the world knoweth us not because it knew him not beloved now are we the sons of god and it does not yet appear what we shall be but we know that when he shall appear we shall be like him for we shall see him as he is so the moment he appears when that face-to-face moment happens no more need for studying the bible why because you're going to know the living word of god face to face no need for speaking in tongues why because all the fullness of the holy spirit that he has you're gonna have [Music] y'all understand what i'm saying it's like the moment we see him face to face all of him will be downloaded into us [Music] god's people will forever be one with him part of him [Music] that's what's beautiful that's why now see he says we know in part we prophesy in part we see through a glass darkly but then one day face to face that's when that which is perfect has come now let me give you a word here when it says when that which is perfect is come i'm going to give you a greek definition of the word come there to let you know it doesn't even mean it doesn't even mean have anything to do with the scriptures being finished it has to do with jesus coming look at this very popular i love using that their um you know study guides and books they use very popular one among the uh theological elite right it's called players anybody heard of thayer's greek english lexicon never heard of it
oh come on y'all have got some lion ex babies in here y'all better stop it right but that'll greek english lexicon says that the greek word in first corinthians 13 10 for perfect is and means the perfect state of all things to be ushered in by the return of christ from heaven that's a direct quote from thor's greek lexicon shall i say it again all right there's greek lexicon on the word perfect here on that which is perfect has come says this there's greek dash english lexicon says that the greek word in first corinthians 13 10 for perfect is tedious that's t e l e i o s i'm gonna spell it again t e and means quote [Music] the perfect state of all things to be ushered in by the return of christ from heaven so here we got the scripture saying that now we see through a glass darkly we need the gifts the gifts of the spirit are revelations of things that we need to know that we need to see that we need to operate in now but then when we see him face to face there'll be no need for those things as we'll be like him we will know fully and then even theaters greek english lexicon says that the word perfect is tedious which means what the perfect state of all things to be ushered in by the return of christ from heaven but this guy on facebook says i'm wrong nobody your own study books [Music] your own study tools right this is how i would i wrote this in my book not in the i think it's the next to the last chapter of the polluted church book called true prophetic ministry but i wrote this this is what i wrote about this what this is the way i i worded this here i said [Music]
i see clearly the event that removes the dark glass and partial knowledge is when we meet jesus face to face at the resurrection it is when he comes he is the perfect one paul the man who went to heaven and heard unspeakable words which were not lawful for a man to utter the man who wrote the majority of the new testament said in essence now even after all my revelations i know in part but then when i see him face to face in my resurrected body i will know him just like he knows me there will be a full revelation of jesus when we see him face to face i said so it is clear that tongues and prophecies will only cease when jesus christ physically returns to the earth and we see him face to face until then we need every tool and gift that god has for us and all the help we can get furthermore when peter was speaking about the baptism the holy spirit on the day of pentecost when they all spoke in tongues and prophesied he said this in acts 2 39 for the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are far off even as many as the lord our god shall call that's acts 2 39 speaking specifically about the gifts of the holy spirit that they saw and heard now let's look at it go back to acts chapter 2. we're going to finish this up in about two seconds here acts 2 fast when we're going to do acts 2 acts 10 acts 19 we're going to do them real fast just go and read them acts 2 verse 1 and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all one accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of the rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared to them clothing tongues like as a fire and set upon each of them and they were all filled with the holy ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance so the holy ghost came filled them they spoke say this holy ghost fields they spoke in tongues not holy ghost spoken tongues oh holy ghost fails gives you the utterance you take the step out now let me say this the baptism of the holy ghost is not for somebody who's living in sin it's not for somebody's compromising i just don't say this you know again we have people listen to this stuff all over the world if you're in adultery if you're into sexual sin homosexuality you're in fornication you're in uh drunkenness and drugs and alcohol witchcraft you're in idolatry you're in sin first
thing you need to do is repent and get out of that you got to remember these are people that heeded the the teachings of john the baptist and then jesus about repent turn from your sin live a holy life give god your whole life so that your sins can be washed away and then see i questioned somebody that's still living in willful habitual ongoing sin and they come up and tell me oh i got baptized the holy ghost and speaking in tongues i want to test that spirit right there right [Music] he's not just called the spirit he's called the holy spirit for holy people right the scripture is plain god gives the holy spirit to those that obey him acts chapter 5. that one hurt you right so the holy spirit is for people that are serious about following jesus and listen anybody can counterfeit things right i've seen folks fake speaking in tongues i've seen folks fake falling out in the holy spirit i've seen folks fake shaking i've seen them fake prophesying and words of knowledge people can counterfeit fake stuff somebody might pass a few uh counterfeit bills doesn't mean i'm through using money i'm just going to examine it and make sure i got the real all right now that's acts 2 acts 10 years later i think if i remember correctly about 11 years later i might have to check that i can't remember but it's it's so years later the apostle peter is sent to cornelius's household he starts preaching to the gentiles right cornelius his family all the house full of people he starts preaching to him i love it in a house just like we are today and look what he says he gets down while he's preaching and let's see we'll go down to verse oh where he started preaching he said verse 34. this is acts 10 verse 34. it says this right here then peter opened his mouth and said of a truth i perceive that god is no respecter of persons but in every nation he that feareth him and worketh righteousness is accepted with him the word which god sent unto the children of israel preaching peace by jesus christ he is lord of all that word i say ye now which was published throughout all judean began from galilee after the baptism of john which john preached how god anointed jesus of nazareth with the holy ghost and with power who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil for god was with him and we are witnesses of all these things which he did both in the land of the jews and in jerusalem whom they slew
and hanged on a tree god raised up the third day and showed him openly not to all the people but unto witnesses chosen before of god even to us who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead and he commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that is he which was ordained of god to be the judge of the quick and the dead to hear him give all the prophets witness that through his name but whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins and while peter yet spake these words the holy ghost fell on them which heard the word and and they were the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with peter because that on the gentiles was also poured out the gift of the holy ghost for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify god then answered peter can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the holy ghost as well as we and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the lord then pray they prayed him that he would tarry certain days so here we see many years later peter goes directed by god to go to the gentiles starts preaching the holy ghost falls on them what happened when they were baptized in the holy ghost just like the apostles they spoke in tongues and prophesied [Music] see why do pentecostals believe it's the initial evidence because the bible says it is the bible shows it is go to acts chapter 19. acts chapter 19. years later another good chunk of years later paul goes to ephesus the apostle paul and if this is not as plain as the nose on your face i don't know what it is all right i've seen them try to explain this one away but this is what he says acts 19 verse one and it ca and it came to pass that while apollos was that corinth power having passed through the upper coast came to ephesus and finding certain disciples he said to them have you received the holy ghost since ye believed wait a minute now i thought i got it when i believed obviously not what he was talking about right paul said have you received the holy ghost since you believed and they said unto him we have not so much has heard whether there be any holy ghost and he said unto them unto what then were you baptized and they said unto john's baptism so water right but they were believers in jesus there are people out there that try to teach that they weren't believers in jesus yet wait a minute now he said have you received the holy ghost since you believed right so here we go let's finish it verse 4 then said paul john verily baptized with the baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him that is on christ jesus when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the lord jesus
and when paul had laid his hands upon them the holy ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied oh boy there it is again right now my last verse i want you to go to first corinthians 14 the last few verses here let's just read verse 38 39 and 40. and we're going to close with this here's how paul ended the whole discussion with them with the corinthians on the gifts of the holy spirit and how tongues operates in the church how they operate in your private life here is his instructions to the pastors elders deacons leaders of this church and to us today this is his instructions plain and simple and i love this verse 38 he said but if any man be ignorant let him be ignorant you want to be ignorant of this you want to be blind you want to be a religious pharisee inside the sea go ahead i'll tell you once or twice and after that i'm done i'm not going to argue with you this is too much it's too plain in the scripture i'm not going to argue with folks right is it but every man be ignorant let him be ignorant wherefore brethren covet to prophesy and forbid not to speak with tongues shh kid wherefore brethren covet to prophesy and forget forbid not to speak with tom let all things be done decently and in order so how did it cease how can a pastor say oh no no we're not going to do that here no if they do they're direct rebellion to the word of god they're robbing their people of rest refreshing and a closeness with god a deeper relationship with god and the more power that they can have they're just robbing them and again some of them just have never been taught it they're they're ignorant not willingly ignorance the difference between being ignorant and being willingly ignorant you know the difference something ignorance no one's ever told you willingly errors they told you you just don't want to hear it right you refuse to listen so listen to me this morning i'm just going to share this there's much more we could say you got if if you're not baptized in the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues and the gifts of the spirit are not working in your life this is something that you have to desire and you have to pursue and if you're not there it's okay
everybody had to start somewhere everybody had to learn about it faith comes by hearing the word of god first on an issue but after that if the bible says to covet something desire it want it then you need to go after that with all your heart because obviously you need it so i'm going to say this to you i don't know for sure but i know i'm sure i'm hitting with for somebody in here but if you haven't received this i want you to go and i want you to get in the bible and i want you to study this stuff i want you to read acts 2 acts 10 acts 19. i want you to read first corinthians 12 13 14. i want you to go read mark 16. go read about this get it down in you and we will pray for you we will lay hands on you when you feel like you're ready and you're hungry and you're you're there we'll do what paul did with those 12 men in ephesus that he laid his hands on them and the holy ghost came on them and the lord will feel you begin to work in your life and you will see a deeper dimension of the holy spirit working in your life ability to hear ability to pray how many have you been trying to pray at times position i just don't have the words [Music] that's when you need to be praying in tongues that's what it's for and listen there's diverse kinds you know first graders talk about diverse kinds of tones that means different kinds there's tongues for private devotion there's tongues for public service and interpretation those are two completely different issues there's tongues that are to be used in prayer meetings there's tongues that are to be used in public worship service and preaching teaching service there's tongues though that you're supposed to use though in your private devotions paul said it i pray with my understanding i pray with the spirit or tongues also i sing in the spirit and i see understanding also [Music] paul said i wish he told the christian church that probably at this time is about 40 000 people he told them he said that [Music] and he was having to get them a little bit in the church [Music] and break some forever [Music] and somehow paul was condemning tongues somehow paul was restricting the church from operating in the gifts of those no and i'm just going to finish with this i'm just going to quote this first thessalonians 5 says this verse 19 i believe it's 20 21 down through this is what it says he says what quench not the spirit despise not prophesy prove all things and hold fast to that which is good [Music] don't quench the spirit don't put the
spirit's fire out don't say no to the gifts of the spirit don't say no to the power of god don't resist what the holy spirit wants to do he says don't despise prophesying in supernatural revelation words of knowledge terms of interpretation together is prophecy don't despise those and you know what the word despise means to lightly esteem take lightly i mean he's telling the church that believed in it not to take it lightly what does he think about the ones who totally reject i don't know that's the folks going to be in trouble on judgement day that's all i got to say you don't rob god's sheep of truth you don't rob god's people of power you don't rob god's people of what they need to walk this walk out you don't rob them and get away with that's another sermon amen pursue the baptism of the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues and the gifts of the other gifts of the spirit until you are operating in it in your private life and then in the church service everybody in this church should operate in the gifts of the spirit amen let's pray heavenly father we thank you today for your word we thank you for the truth we thank you god for sending your holy spirit to fill us god to anoint us to overflow and to move through us i thank you lord that this gift to be baptized in the holy spirit to speak with other tongues to operate in prophecy and healing and and all the things you said all the nine gifts lord i thank you that this is for today you said it's to you to you and to your children and to all that are a fault even as many as the lord will call god you haven't changed you're always going to be supernatural you're always going to be beyond the natural realm and you want your children walking and operating beyond the natural realm and so lord help us to do things your way not the pharisees way not the sadducees way not the religious blind guides way but lord your way the bible way i pray that people listening to this will finally understand why they've been frustrated in their christian lives while they've been dry and dull at times and really struggled they need to move on if you're listening to this this morning or you're listening to a podcast later on you've got to keep growing in your christian walk you've got to keep going deeper you've got to keep obeying and being filled with the holy spirit and operating in the gifts of the holy spirit that's part of the journey
don't reject it father we pray today that people will be baptized in the holy spirit all over the world from this message and in this church even in jesus name amen hallelujah
