foreign [Music] we welcome everyone all of our students firing Grace School of ministry this morning this is redemption our Redemption block this is class seven this morning in the Redemption block this is going to be entitled The Dead tulip of Calvinism I say the dead tulip because tulip is the acronym used to define the five points of Calvinism and the reason we're addressing this in the Redemption block is because Calvinism is one of the Protestant or you know one of the views one of the system atic theologies that came out of the reformation and uh it it does teach about salvation now if it's wrong then we're dealing with something here that is serious and has infiltrated nearly all aspects of Christianity and uh of course I'm here to tell you today that 99 of it is wrong and it's produced a bad View and it's really produced even really a bad put put a bad character on God himself so um I know that Calvinists don't think so they they love to talk up the sovereignty of God you know but God is Sovereign but God is also created I believe free will they do away with that and we're going to get into that this morning and show you all of that but anyway let's let's get on to the PowerPoint here let's give you a little introduction here to John Calvin John Calvin was born July 10 1509 he died May 27th of 1564 he was a French Theologian and pastor and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation he was a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism aspects which include the doctrines of predestination and of the absolute sovereignty of God in Salvation of the human soul from death and eternal damnation in which doctrines Calvin was influenced by and elaborated upon the augustinian and other Christian traditions and Augustine was Roman Catholic we're going to deal with that a lot today because I'm going to show you that John Calvin pretty much got all of his theology from a Roman Catholic by the name of Augustine of Hippo anyway now pretty much today uh various congregational reformed and Presbyterian churches uh look to Calvin as their Chief Expositor of their beliefs and their this belief is spread throughout the world and so I'll say this morning that
along with Presbyterians and people who call themselves reformed you really have Calvinism Calvinism either in all five points or in uh at least several of their points some people will say they're three-point Calvinists some will say they're two um it's pretty much ridiculous but this this you know erroneous and uh demonic I believe doctrine of demons is kind of spread into everything you see part of it in the Baptist Church you see now Methodist churches when John Wesley stood firmly against this but a lot of Methodist churches have embraced this because uh you know it is it is deception so let's uh let's keep going I'll make my case again tulip this is what it stands for my students you're going to have to know this it will be on your test as we say but Tula the the Five Points of Calvinism now Calvin didn't develop This Acronym it was later done by followers of Calvinism but it pretty much and most all Calvinists except that this encapsulates the teaching of John Calvin first of all the T in tulip stands for total depravity uh the U is unconditional election or God choosing uh we'll get into what all these mean in a minute limited atonement which you're going to see I believe is the most Blasphemous and dangerous and really demonic doctrine of of all this then you have irresistible Grace for the I and then p is the perseverance of the Saints but what they mean by that is if you're one of the chosen one of the elect you're eternally secure uh to go to heaven no matter what you do no matter how you live and that's really where the doctrine of unconditional eternal security or once they've always saved comes from so let's let's look at what these break down of course Aaron said tulip eventually became the Cornerstone of the reformed theology and came into being when some of Cal and followers attempted to simplify some of his Theology and writings by using an acronym where each letter stood for one of the five fundamental tenets of Calvinism all of which are found in Calvin's Institutes of the Christian religion which is his most well-known and most exhaustive book of his theology is if you want to call it uh but let's look at the total depravity though for the T this is what they believe total depravity or inability uh Calvin taught and believed that as a consequence of Adam's sin also called The Fall every person born into this world is so morally corrupt and so enslaved to sin that he is incapable of repenting and believing the gospel and worthy of nothing but Everlasting damnation it is only God's grace that enables him to choose to follow God repent and have faith for Christ in
Salvation so the the calvinist this is kind of where they stand on this they take this verse right here John 6 44 no man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up at the last day now if you take that at you know just face value you'd say well that you know the this total depravity idea that no one can choose to follow God out of their own will that God has to do it all um sounds plausible it sounds right but what have we learned here about hermeneutics or the laws of biblical interpretation you never take one verse alone and that creates your theology or your Doctrine because in the same book the same Gospel of John we see this uh and I'm not saying that this is not true but Jesus said here no man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up at the last day that is a statement of Truth but if you take that alone and say well God's only drawing some but he's not drawing others that's what Calvinism says but let's look what Jesus said further on in the gospels this is what he said here and we're going to read this passage we'll we'll really just focus in here on verse 32 but this is John 12 31-36 so he said here now is the Judgment of this world now shall the prince of this world be cast out and I if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me now that is important and then of course he goes on to tell them if you look down that they need to believe in the light while the light is with them see verse 6 he said while you have the light believe in the light that you may be Children of the light these things spake Jesus and departed and it hide himself from them now why would you tell people to believe if you knew there were people in front of you who could not believe because God had already predestined them to damnation now here we have the the the reason that the total depravity idea falls apart or you could say at least it may have a slim amount of Truth in it but the fact is God has dealt with it it's done he is drawing all men right so what does that do well that begins to make Calvinism Fall Apart because if we if we look at this verse where Jesus said if I be lifted up from Earth and he was talking about being lifted up on the cross dying for the sins of mankind he made that clear in John chapter 3 . so Jesus was saying once I am I'm crucified once I shed my blood once I die for the sins of mankind I will draw all men unto me so all men women children everybody the Holy Spirit the spirit of Jesus Christ is drawing all people from that point further even if you say it
wasn't that way before Jesus made it clear once I am crucified I will draw all men that means god is convicting God is speaking God is pulling on the conscience of all men meaning that all men women children everyone has now the ability to choose to believe and follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ to follow him as Lord and Savior as the Creator and let's continue on here this this takes us into the next point of Calvinism which is unconditional election now what that means and what they mean by that I'll say is they say unconditional election they say before the creation of The World God selected or chose a portion of humanity to be saved and the rest were predestined to Eternal damnation in hell he chose some to be saved he chose some to go to hell he predestined it and man's choices and free will has nothing to do with it your actions your behavior none of that has anything to do with it all right they go on to say that this election is not based on God looking into the future and seeing that the person would have some particular virtues or faith but is a decision based solely upon God's will however what do we have here it says here for this is good and acceptable on the sight of God our savior now the first two verse I couldn't get it all on this slide so the first two verses talk about God said that he he wants us to pray for all men and for kings and for those in Authority pray for everyone and he says that intercessions prayers he says for this is good acceptable in the sight of God who will have all men to be saved now this right here doesn't mean and I'm going to show you it doesn't mean that everyone's going to be saved it means he desires I'm going to show you that but this means that it is God who Wills all men to be saved now how can you say that God picks some for salvation predestined chose some for salvation predestined and chose some for hell and then the scripture says here plainly that God Wills or desires all men to be saved does that make any sense whatsoever I I I I can't even fathom really how anyone can believe Calvinism just simply based on this right here and there's more scriptures to go along with this of course but here's in first Timothy Chapter 2 here where it says he will all men to be saved or we'll have all men to be saved the word will here is thilo and it simply means you can see the strongs how it's translated will or would and you see that's 159 times will or would have uh 16 times desire 13 times desirous so what it's saying here and if you look at
the Strong's definition it just flat tells you that yes it means to determine to choose to prefer to wish to be inclined to Delight in so what uh that verse in first Timothy 2 is saying that God desires he wishes he would that all men would be saved Not all men are going to be saved that's that's where people get into they get into not looking up words and they end up in what's called Universal salvation everyone's going to be saved ultimately in the end that's that's another false doctrine of demons that's being taught but let's look here's a few more verses let's just go ahead and destroy this idea that God chooses some to be saved and God chooses some to be damned this idea of what's called double predestination here's what the Lord says second Peter 3 9 the Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some men count slackness but is long-suffering to us word not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance so how does the god that is not willing that any should perish predetermined that there's a certain group that's going to perish no sorry John Calvin you were deceived and you were Deceiver uh acts 6 17 30 Paul preaching there in Athens he says in the times of this ignorance God winked at talking about man's ignorance about idolatry and other gods he says but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent so as you see the first two points of Calvinism that their idea that man can't repent right the idea man has no ability whatsoever to do it and especially even if they say well well we believe the elect they have the ability to do it well God said he commanded all men everywhere to repent how would God command a man to do something that he could not do see the Calvinism is not even logical much less biblical all right so God come in commands all men everywhere to repent meaning they can it's their choice he Wills or desires all men to be saved he's not willing that any should perish so what does that mean that means that man must be able to resist God right must be able that means man has a free will Calvinism teaches man does not have a free will that no matter what God's will supersedes man has no choice in the matter no part in the matter and then of course they say and and of course the unconditional election teaches as we let's let's back up to that real quick here the unconditional election says that God does not look into the future to
determine the choices we would make and then formulate a plan it says right here though that in First Peter that's exactly what he does he looks into the future first Peter an apostle of Jesus Christ to the stranger scattered throughout pontus galatia Cappadocia Asia bethenia elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father everybody see that what is elect meaning according to the foreknowledge meaning God did look into the future and he saw what the choices we would make and he chose and formulated some and he has he has really he has plans for all but he has some favorites now and I've I've described it this way if you could look into the future and you could see say you say you don't have any children yet but you can look into the future and you can see that you have 10 kids and you can see the five of them are going to love you and Obey you and respect you and that five of them are going to cuss you uh resist you hate you mistreat you and not want you um let's be honest are you going to have some favorites doesn't mean you don't love all ten no you love all 10. but let's say you could look ahead and you knew every single choice and every single action and every single thing that would happen and then as a as a father that can see into the future you go well you know what I'm going to make some plans I'm going to make some you know it's kind of like parents do now I see my you know my kids I'm going to make plans so they can go to you know I can pay for them to go to college or help them buy a house or uh help them when they're when you know when they finally get married starts making some plans right doesn't mean those plans are going to happen but those plans are are formulated and worked upon right but what are the choice what if what if you you planned you know for your daughter's wedding uh you know in the future and she decides she's not getting married well then you still had a predestined plan she chose not to follow it that's not your fault right choices so this is important to understand that we are elect our favorites that's all that is it's what it means because God looked ahead and saw we would choose him that in the mix in the midst of a wicked and perverse generation in the midst of all kind of skepticism and attacks and unbelief and
that we would still choose to believe his word to believe in his salvation through Jesus Christ and follow him and resist living the way the rest of them want to live so we are elect our favorites simply because God looked ahead and saw we would choose him and love him that doesn't mean he'll love everybody for God it was uh John 3 16 everybody for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son and whosoever not just the elect but whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life right whosoever it's not what John Calvin taught he taught just the elect just a group of chosen ones let's keep going here this one really irks me the most because this one is called the L in the Tulip is limited atonement limited atonement of the doctrine in Calvinism says that Jesus on calvary or on the cross bore the full punishment do his elect ensuring their final salvation he did not die for the non-elect who are excluded from the atonement that means that Jesus did not die For All Mankind or for everyone all right and that's what they teach limited atonement think about that limited what here's one verse you know one little passage blows this whole part of it out of the water right my little children these things John first John 2 1-2 My Little Children these things right I unto you that you sin not and if any man sinned we have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous and he is the propitiation for our sins so what the Believers because he's talking about us himself and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world how can you spout a doctrine that Jesus only died for a certain group of chosen ones elect ones now Jesus Paid Jesus dying on the cross his atoning blood his atoning sacrifice as God In the Flesh on the cross for the sins of mankind as both fully God and fully man was for all people everyone is that what the scripture says now now listen there's some Calvinists though that'll argue and say no no no he didn't teach that yes he did so don't believe that lie but then there are some people say well I don't believe that part you know why they'll say that because if they don't if you don't believe this part then the whole house of cards that is Calvinism Falls to pieces like uh it's in a whirlwind
why because if Jesus died for everyone right and yet everyone is not being saved right then and he Wills for everyone to be saved he desires for everyone to be saved we've already established that then what then men can resist and if men can resist then the next point of Calvinism falls apart which is irresistible Grace that you can't resist God notice how it starts tumbling starts falling apart irresistible Grace Calvinism teaches God draws The Sinner before he himself has a single thought of responding to the good news in other words faith is a gift and party to the sinner who is entirely passive in this act therefore regeneration the new birth occurs before belief in Christ and the chosen ones cannot resist God now they do and I have documented this they do teach that you are regenerated basically you are born again before you even believe in Jesus before you even accept Jesus that it's all a work of God because you're chosen you're born again he said what there says a bunch of people out there that but there's a group still out there that are born again they just don't know it yet they don't believe in Jesus they're living in sin they hate God they hate the light they hate righteousness they despise the Bible but there's some of them out there they're born again though because they're they're part of the chosen ridiculous this is a ridiculous system of belief but their final part so that's the eye and tulip the irresistible Grace and of course I covered this a few weeks ago but let me just say this I'll give you the scriptures of course first Thessalonians 5 um 19 says quench not the spirit so we're told not to quench the spirit right uh Acts chapter 7 Stephen preaching to the Pharisees he tells them you do always resist the Holy Spirit as your fathers did so to you so it's it's amazing that the uh you know the Bible says we can Quench and resist the holy spirit of God his drawing on us um but Calvin said you couldn't right you can't resist God and then of course the system of Calvinism the total depravity view they have the unconditional election of some chosen some not The Limited atonement God only Jesus only died for a certain group The elect
and irresistible Grace you can't resist God's will if you're if if he Wills you to be saved you can't resist him right and we've already shown you that God Wills all to be saved therefore some must be resisting if all are not going to be saved right we know all won't be saved Jesus said few will enter in many will enter the road to destruction so the Bible clearly teaches that man kind resists God's Will and desires for them I mean this is basic that means really should be basic but doctrines of demons don't have to make sense but the whole system boils down to this what they call and it's it's it's it's an almost a Clinton obama-like phrase here they use the term perseverance of saints but that's just so bad but what they mean by that what Calvinism means is this is pretty much where the doctrine of once saved always saved comes from that anyone or everyone who is truly regenerated by God's grace or the chosen ones the elect ones will never fall away or perish because they didn't do anything God did it all to save them even whether they know it or not and so there's nothing they can do to lose it so your behavior how you live your life your morality your obedience or lack thereof none of that matters and so you know you can you can listen to sermons today and they won't say Calvinism but if you listen close enough and you know what's going on you will hear it coming through loud and clear and that's the reason I'm addressing this stuff because it's very very dangerous now that's Calvinism that's what he taught so let's look into where it came from because we saw a minute ago it said that Calvin Calvin was influenced by Augustine the Roman Catholic priest that's called the father of the Church of the Roman Catholic Church not the church all right but let's let's look at this now so the the and I'm going to tell you the books and the articles uh pretty much that I'm going to show you right now these first ones quoting all this are calvinist reformed theology preachers that means they're pro-calvinism these are not books against Calvinism these are pro-calvinism pro Calvinism the Calvinists themselves so this is a book called The Five Points of Calvinism Define defended and documented by David Steele Curtis Thomas and Lance Quinn noticed uh afterward by John MacArthur that's a devil for you too right there but we'll deal with him later he's the one who says you can take the mark of the beast and you're still saved you're still going to heaven even though Revelation 14 is clear that you are going to be in hell and the smoke of your torment this is what I'm telling you these guys they claim to be the scholars
but they're so contrary to scripture and these are salvation issues which is why we're covering it Redemption class but in this book here the Five Points of Calvinism it says here as for Calvin's theology there is no question that rather than deriving it from a diligent study the Bible he imposed upon the Bible certain preconceived ideas from his Roman Catholic background which locked him into an erroneous interpretation many leading Calvinists agree that the writings of Augustine were the actual source of most of what is known as Calvinism today calvinist David Steele and Curtis Thomas point out that quote the basic doctrines of the calvinistic position had been vigorously defended by Augustine against Pelagius during the 5th Century A.D okay so this is a pro calvinist in a book defending Calvinism admits that the basic doctrines of Calvinism were defended defined really put forth by Augustine all right let's keep going here's another Pro Calvin book this is the other side of Calvinism Lawrence M Vance says here in his eye-opening book The Other Side of Calvinism Lawrence M Vance thoroughly documents that quote John Calvin did not originate the doctrines that bear his name this is stated emphatically by calvinist Vance quotes numerous well-known Calvinists to this effect for example example Kenneth G Talbot and W Gary Crampton Wright the system of Doctrine which Bears the name of John Calvin was in no way originated by him BB Warfield declared the system of Doctrine taught by John Calvin is just the augustinianism common to the whole body of the reformers thus the debt which the Creeds coming out of the Reformation owe to Augustine is acknowledged oh what he's saying here is the Roman Catholic Augustine's theology pretty much permeated a lot of the Theology of the reformers especially John Calvin and even Luther to some degree now let's keep going we're going to look at what Augustine believed in a minute but anyway Charles Spurgeon one of the most well-known most quoted most beloved calvinist preachers of the 1800s you know they called him the prince of preachers he's come to my attention recently that he very well may be and it looks like he may be have been a Freemason he quotes because I'm doing a study on Freemasonry an in-depth study and the things that in a lot of uh spurgeon's messages are word for word
out of Freemason Oaths in different degrees yeah I'll I'll share that later on but regardless he was a famous preacher but uh and calvinist loves Spurgeon but Charles Spurgeon admitted that perhaps he said quote perhaps Calvin himself derived it Calvinism namely from the writings of Augustine Alvin L Baker wrote there is hardly a doctrine of Calvin that does not bear the marks of Augustine's influence for example the following from Augustine sounds like an echo reverberating through the writings of Calvin now remember this is a quote from Augustine here even as he appointed them speaking of God even as God has appointed them to be regenerated whom he predestined to each everlasting life as the most merciful bestory of Grace while to those he has predestined to Eternal death he is also the most righteous awarder of punishment so Augustine plainly taught some were predestined to Eternal salvation to everlasting life by God some were predestined to Everlasting damnation and destruction in hell that was the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Augustine Augustine was in the 400s A.D the 5th Century Calvin didn't come around until the 1500s 1100 years before Calvin the Roman Catholic Augustine was teaching these the Roman Catholics you get my drift all right let's keep going here's the book from 1956 Calvin and Augustine there's no question as to the important role Augustine played in molding Calvin's thinking Theology and actions this is particularly true concerning the key foundations of Calvinism Warfield refers to Calvin and Augustine as quote two extraordinary gifted men who Tower like pyramids over the scene of History makes me want to throw up a little bit my mouth right there right yeah that's that's who we want towering over the scene of History these two Calvin's Institutes of the Christian religion make repeated favorable references to Augustine frequently citing his writings as authoritative and even using the expression confirmed by the authority of Augustine so Calvin esteemed this guy let's look at where Calvin himself credits Augustine with having formulated key Concepts in his institutes this is just a small sampling of the references in Calvin's writings and notice I give you the documentation down there you can look it up for yourself but he says here and then this is uh
John Calvin in his Institutes of the Christian religion we have come into the way of faith says Augustine let us constantly adhere to it the truth of God is too powerful both here and everywhere to dread the Slanders of the ungodly as Augustine powerfully maintains Augustine disguises not that he was often charged with preaching the doctrine of predestination too freely you see that he abundantly refutes the charge for it has been shrewdly observed by Augustine that we can safely follow scripture for Augustine rightly expounding this passage says and so so he he he's quoting Augustine and lifting him up and defended him he goes on and say I say with Augustine that the Lord has created those as he certainly foreknew were to go to destruction and he did so because he so willed if your mind is troubled decline not to embrace the counsel of Augustine so he says he right here he says the Lord chose some to Everlasting destruction the damnation he predestined some to hell and if you doubt what I'm saying if you have problem with what I'm saying if your mind is troubled by what I'm saying declined not to embrace the counsel of Augustine not the Bible Augustine John Calvin goes on in his Institutes of the Christian religion to say I will not hesitate therefore simply to confess with Augustine that those things will certainly happen which he God hath foreseen and that the destruction of the non-elect consequent upon predestination is also most just so he's saying here that he agrees with Augustine that God's predetermined those two destruction that those who he's predetermined to destruction that it's just and fair even though it doesn't seem just but if you're troubled about that look to the authority of Augustine are y'all about to throw up with me a little bit but you know what I never heard anybody talk about this I never heard anybody admit that John Calvin even when I wrote my book Grace abuse and I talked about John Calvin in his tulip and studied it out and looked at it and you remember this is very early in the days of the internet too It was 95 96 I started writing the book um Grace abuse I only found about I really never found out about the Augustine connection I did find out about Calvin burning people at the stake murdering and torturing people we'll get to that later but uh which sounds very Roman Catholic to me right but let's go on Calvin's almost complete agreement with Augustine is nothing short of astounding
listen this Calvin called himself an augustinian theologian I mean what more do you have to say here right he said of Augustine Calvin said whom we quote frequently as being the best and most faithful witness of all Antiquity now you need to remember this because in just a second we're going to look at what Augustine believed what he taught what the pope said about him several popes said about Augustine but he calls and John Calvin calls Augustine the best and most faithful Witness of antiquity now remember this is Augustine into the 5th Century A.D this is this is we're talking about you know over a hundred years into after Constantine came in and corrupted and formed his own State Roman Catholic Church because he did that Constantine did that in 313 A.D so we're well into the corruption we're well into the state Church of Rome and uh how how does how does it see this is what gets me how does a reformer who's saying we need to come out of the Roman Catholic Church how does he build his entire theology on the father of the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church and how would he ever say that a Roman Catholic theologian who you're going to find out Augustine got his doctrines of this stuff from the gnostics how does he say he's the best and most faithful witness of antiquity my mind just goes I'm like how just on this alone how could anyone follow John Calvin and Augustine and called himself a Protestant no you're a closet Roman Catholic is what you are all right let's keep going he goes on to say it is Calvinists themselves who insists upon the connection between Calvin and Augustine McGrath writes above all Calvin regarded his thought as faithful exposition of the leading ideas of Augustine of Hippo window concedes upon points of Doctrine he borrows from Saint Augustine with both hands this is calvinist admitting this right this is not Pastor Dean making up stuff let's keep going back to this book again the other side of Calvinism says how be it to prove conclusively that Calvin was a disciple of Augustine we need to look no further than Calvin himself one can't read five pages in The
Calvin's institutes without seeing the name Augustine Calvin quotes Augustine listen to this over 400 times in one book that he wrote the Institutes of the Christian religion he called Augustine by such titles as listen to this holy man and Holy Father calling a bishop a priest of Rome a holy man and a Holy Father Augustine worship Mary we'll show you that in a minute and taught it as well um this is disturbing to say the least again how does a Protestant reformer call a Roman Catholic priest Bishop teacher how does he call him holy man holy father I don't know unless maybe you're a Roman Catholic agent this is what I really believe and you know you can calvinist you know pretty much deal over into a catatonic state with me saying that because they think he is reformed theology reform it's Reformation it's pure Reformation theology no it's pure Catholic theology and it was meant to to infiltrate the church with false Doctrine because he knew that false Doctrine would weaken the Protestant church not strengthening right but Vance further points out that calvinist admit that Calvin was heavily influenced by Augustine informing his doctrine of predestination how can one of the principal leaders of the Reformation Embrace so fully the doctrines of one who had been called the first real Roman Catholic and the principal Theologian creator of the Latin Catholic system as distinct from the Evangelical protestantism and what should be said about the fact that so many Evangelical leaders continue to hold both Augustine and Calvin in such high regard how's this even possible let's look at this right here there's a that's uh that's that's a mural or a win I don't know that's something from the uh a church Saint Augustine Roman Catholic Church dedicated to Augustine that picture is there uh mini Lee and Calvinists agree that the writings of Augustine were the actual source of most of what is known as Calvinism both Martin Luther and Calvin basically followed Augustine who lived from 354 to 430 A.D in the areas of predestination and the sovereignty of God and could very well have rightly been called augustinianism augustinians I should say the basic foundation for Calvin's extreme theology that denied the human will were inspired by Augustine who taught that foreknowledge was the same as predestination he said consequently sometimes the same predestination
signified also under the name for knowledge that is nonsense that is truly trying to twist and mingle two two words that are completely separate from one another right predestination and foreknowledge are not the same thing but they're trying to do that because they're trying to erase that it's the foreknowledge of God whereby he makes his plans not that he predetermines this will happen with you no matter what you do all right so that's what they're trying to erase but that's Augustine's teaching adopted by Calvin and just so you know I checked the sources and these books and these uh articles that I looked and this was they quote this Source right here and and this is notice that it says uh theopedia right here an interview on the joy of Calvinism with Greg Foster it's a pro Calvin Calvinism website uh it says here Calvinism is named after the 16th century reformer John Calvin whose overall theology is contained in his Institutes of the Christian religion he in published in 1559 sometimes Calvinism is referred to by other names such as augustinianism because Calvin followed Augustine in many areas of predestination in the sovereignty of God so they admit it all right I probably could spend more time on this I will say here's I mean there was a 1986 article in Time magazine called the second founder of the faith it says law and in that article it said long before Calvin Augustine championed predestination uh so this article admits that he quotes that Calvin quotes Augustine 400 times in Institutes and these are some more quotes he's talking about I hold with Augustine look at this I hold with Augustine uh but I highlighted this quote down here at the bottom in blue he says I say with Augustine this is John Calvin I say with Augustine that the Lord has created those who as he clearly foreknew were to go to destruction and he did so because he so willed as soon as you see it's plainly set right so let's keep going so here are the words of Augustine most aptly apply and this is still him uh here's I want to drop down to the one highlighted here this is John Calvin in his institutes he says but why says Augustine have some ears and others not who has known the mind of the Lord are we therefore to deny what is playing because we cannot comprehend what is hid this is a faithful quotation from Augustine but because his words will perhaps more have more Authority than mine so they were uh where Calvin put this guy right this quote by John Calvin I had to include this because this is the most
damning of them all and I I am belaboring the point of the connection to Augustine because it's important for you to see it but Calvin said in a word Augustine is so holy with me or completely with me that if I wish to write a confession of my faith I could do so with all fullness and satisfaction to myself out of his writings but that I may not on the present occasion be two prolex I will be content with three or four instances of his testimony from which it will be manifest that he does not differ from me one pins point and it could be more manifests still could the whole line of his confession be induced how fully and solidly he agrees with me in every particular Calvin Augustine agrees with Calvin no Calvin you plagiarize Augustine isn't that something he agrees with me you get the time frame messed up here Augustine came before you John Calvin you're agreeing with him yeah Lee the gymnast and monkey gymnastics these people do with semantics I mean it's just blows my mind I just I pulled that up to show this is the this is the online version of that book uh let me see down here the treaties on the eternal predestination of God by John Calvin that's it online right there page 38 where he that's the quote so multiple I've been showing you multiple sources here right um you can find all this yourself where he says Augustine is Holy with me so who was Augustine let's look at Augustine a minute we've definitely I would say you think we've made the connection between Calvin and Augustine right pretty well I'd say I could have done more I left out a bunch so who is Augustine Phillips shaft Protestant Theologian and a historian of the Christian church called Augustine quote the principal theological creator of the Latin Catholic system what what the principal theological creator of the Latin Catholic system the Roman Catholic system so let's keep going Saint Jerome another Roman Catholic the translator of the Latin Vulgate corrupt Bible of the Roman Catholics wrote approvingly Catholics Revere you speaking of Augustine Catholics Revere you and accept you as the second founder of the ancient faith and which is a mark of Greater Fame all Heretics hate you no all true Protestant Christians who believe the Bible don't like you
Pope John Paul II well he was a Dandy gave credit to Mary for healing him when he got shot whether that was even real or not may have been a whole act who knows Pope John Paul II in an anniversary pronouncement terms Augustine the quote common father of our Christian civilization no he's talking about when he says Christian civilization he's talking about a Roman Catholic civilization right this was the 16th anniversary of Augustine's conversion Cardinal Joseph ratzinger who became Pope Benedict he was before that he was Pope John Paul's doctrinal overseer says through Augustine I learned to believe to know faith and to love the church what faith did he love what church did he love what Doctrine did rat singer adhere to Roman Catholic theology not Protestant theology all right here are some other things that uh Augustine believed we'll just run through him he believed that salvation is not to be found outside of the Roman Catholic Church and there's the quote he said man cannot have salvation except in the Catholic Church what you mean the only way I know if I'm chosen is if I'm a Roman Catholic think about that we just took this to a whole new level no you can't even say I'm a Believer in Jesus Christ but I'm not Roman uh then you're not one of the predestined chosen ones are you if you're not in the Roman Catholic Church so I guess we narrow this group of chosen ones down they they had to choose the right Church Gordon Augustine right he says uh right here but by the same word by the same Sacrament you were born but you will not come to the same inheritance of eternal life unless you return to the Catholic Church Augustine so I guess I don't know I guess if you left the Catholic Church you weren't chosen anymore I had to come back I don't know how this works really I'm they're confusing me guys he believed Augustine believed that the Roman Catholic Church was pure I mean really he believed of course in the Supreme teaching Authority because of apostolic secession so he believed the nonsense of the Roman Catholic Church was from Peter on and that uh you know blah blah blah we'll just keep going uh he believed the baptism and here's what's confusing right he says he believes in predestination some are just predetermined to be saved some are not
but then he'll say well stuff like this but but you have to baptism and the Lord's Supper communion you know Mass whatever in the Roman Catholic this is required for salvation so he says according to the Apostolic tradition the Churches of Christ hold inherently that without baptism and partition participation at the table of the Lord it is impossible for any man to attain either to the kingdom of God or to Salvation and life eternal so he says this is about infant baptism too he believed in you had to baptize infants and that if at basically infant baptism is what determined whether you inherited eternal life it's just crazy he says there are three ways in which sins are forgiven in baptism in prayer in the greater humility of penance God does not forgive sins except to the bad times so you get some of your stuff but here he has he he taught and believed in the fifth century that Mary was a Perpetual virgin even though the Bible says that after she had Jesus as a virgin that she knew her husband Joseph meaning they had sex and had more children six more precisely can I just say Mary ceased to be a virgin right after not long after Jesus was born okay this is in the Bible all right but Augustine the faithful Roman Catholic that he was thought the Perpetual virginity of Mary Mary remained a virgin in conceiving her son a virgin and giving birth to him a virgin and carrying him a virgin in nursing him at her breast always a virgin Heretics he called anti Dr my rights or whatever I don't know what that is Heretics he called are those who contradict the Perpetual virginity of Mary and affirm that after Christ was born she was joined as one with her husband so he said that you were a heretic if you believe that Mary had sexual relations with her husband and had more children and ceased to be a virgin right um of course he taught the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist of the cookie or that you know boom the cookie becomes Jesus nope the Cookie doesn't become Jesus sorry not what happens it's a symbol all right he believed in the Purgatory and praying for The Departed dead and of course finally he said here I would not believe the gospel myself if the authority of the Catholic Church did not influence me to do so so I wouldn't believe anything unless the Roman Catholic Church said for me to
believe that's pretty jacked up right all right and then Augustine on Force now this is where they kind of the beginning came to lay down to for Catholics that if you became a heretic in their eyes if you didn't believe what they believed and agree with them that they were had right to use force on you to force conversion or to punish you even to the point of death and uh Augustine said here 300 Bishops with many thousands of inferior clergy were torn from their churches stripped of their ecclesial possessions banished to the islands and prescribed by the laws if they pursue to conceal themselves in any of the provinces of Africa there are numerous congregations were deprived of rights of citizens and exercise of religious worship by these severities which obtained the warmest of pro a probation of Saint Augustine great numbers of uh or whatever we're reconciled to the Catholic church so through his push for severe punishment persecution banishment exiles they were forcing people to return to the Catholic Church by force all right so this was this was in the fifth century so there's ample evidence here that Calvin never freed himself from the Catholic Church apparently considering himself a Christian from the time he was baptized as an infant in the Roman Catholic Church he said this is Calvin quote we ought to consider that at whatever time we are baptized we are washed and purified once for the whole of life what I thought you had to be chosen is it which is it Calvin is it am I Chosen and predestined to be part of the elect and be saved and it doesn't matter what if I'm one of the Chosen and I don't get baptized but wait a minute but if I'm one of the chosen but I still have to get baptized but what if I'm one of the chosen I don't know it yet I've been regenerated before I believe indeed foreign this is the insanity of this they're so conf they're just so confused but look you you can see in what he said here the doctrine of unconditional eternal security or once they've always saved no matter how you live he's saying it here through baptism once you're baptized you're eternally secure no matter what do you see that so this idea was pushed by Augustine and then by Calvin but Calvin was a Roman Catholic cat I mean you're gonna see in a second he he
was in a very wealthy very well connected Roman Catholic Family all right but he says here we ought to consider that whatever time we are baptized we are washed and purified once for the whole of Life of course that's lie deception wherefore as often as we fall we must recall the remembrance of our baptism and thus fortify our minds so as to feel certain and secure from the remission of sin so he said if we fall just remember we've been baptized and that we're our sins have been forgiven don't worry about it he says for though when Once administered it seems to have passed it is not abolished by subsequent sin so he's saying if he were baptized that means your sins were washed away and it doesn't matter if you fall you just remember your baptism and that none of that purification is washed away by any subsequent sins you may commit this is perverting of Grace this is turning Grace into licentiousness lasciviousness a license to sin the very thing Jude warned about but this is what John Calvin did he said for the purity of Christ was there and offered to us through baptism and he's talking about his infant baptism he said in the Catholic church he says for the purity of Christ was then offered to us all always is in force and is not destroyed by any stain it wipes and washes away all our defilements infant baptism once for all why should so so remember you're hearing modern preachers say what your sins are forgiven past present future John uh Charles Stanley the one of the most famous well-known Baptist preachers in America says your sins are forgiven past present few you'll hear this repeated in almost every mega church in the country now let's look at this John Calvin's background May answer the question why he would so embrace the Roman Catholic Gnostic doctrines of Augustine John Calvin was born yeah this is uh Ignatius Loyola the founder of the Jesuits the Society of Jesus The Counter Reformation to stop the Reformation I believe he was working with them but that's just my opinion based on some of these things but John Calvin uh was born into a devoutly religious Roman Catholic Family of prominence his father was the secretary and legal adviser to the Roman Catholic bishop of their town pretty connected and John Little John Boy was put on the Roman Catholic Church payroll at the age of 12. what the little altar boy I don't know and remain so for 13 years until one year after his alleged conversion to protestantism
meaning once John Calvin when he was 25 said he became he was born again or he was converted to Christianity he didn't really ever say he was born again but then he was converted to Christianity he remained on the Roman Catholic Church's payroll for one year while he wrote the Institutes of the Christian religion think it kind of fishy that's like me you know saying I left the Illuminati while I'm still on their payroll and I'm writing a book for for the Christians a book that happens to be full of Illuminati doctrines right no it's all a little fishy to me but it goes on to say here it says it was not until May 4th 1534 that he returned to his hometown and resigned his employ by the local Bishop he was then arrested in prison and then managed to escape now let me just say something the Roman Catholics during these days these centuries we're killing millions of people they they had perfected imprisoning binding torturing people but oh John Little John manages to escape he's one of the elect that's right so he was arrested in prison then managed to escape and although he was on the Run and changing his place of residence Calvin managed to finish his original institutes in 1535. this massive voluminous book he wrote no I think he was being paid by Rome as an infiltrator of the Protestant Reformation and he took the doctrines of Augustine and he became and he knew the seeds of that augustinianism would poison the true Protestant church and Lead many back to Rome ultimately in the last days which it has done and so as it sounds like the cover story of one groomed to infiltrate the Protestant Reformation with Roman Catholic heresy Calvin wrote the institutes now now get this remember the Bible says don't put a novice one newly come to the faith in a position of leadership or being a teacher so let's look at this Calvin wrote the Institutes of the Christian religion said to be one of the greatest theological books of all time when he was a brand new convert less than a year after his alleged conversion we've got entire entire denominations following the Theology of someone even if it was true he was converted
a year after his conversion no just that alone ought to disqualify him as a teacher as a leader see the reason I'm going to tell you what the reason another reason let's just say he wasn't a Roman Catholic agent the reason he had to pretty much completely plagiarize Augustine and the reason he idolized Odyssey and the reason he loved on let's just say he wasn't a Roman Catholic sympathizer and he wasn't an agent one plausible reason why he would take so much from Augustine is because he was a new believer and he had nothing himself to offer because he had no depth of knowledge of the scriptures or the Bible or theology or anything he's not the brilliant Theologian he was a new convert and he plagiarized a theologian from the 5th Century and the Protestant Reformation bought it because most people were ignorant and they thought this is a learned man because he had a privileged wealthy upbringing and he managed to get a bit of an education but he was brought up Roman Catholic this goes on to say here brought up a devout Roman Catholic he had just been recently been converted to protestantism while there's little doubt that Calvin was determined that scripture be his sole Authority and that he was convinced that he uh that what he taught was true to God's word how could anyone believe that even a unusually bright convert can become in a few short months and mature enough in the Christian faith to write tomes on some of the deepest subjects in all Christianity just not plausible here's the proof let's hear what Calvin said himself and the preface of the 1557 commentary on the Psalms he said I was quite surprised to find that before A year had elapsed from his conversion all who had any desire after pure adoption were continually learned although I myself was as yet but a mere novice and Tyro a beginning and learning center so he even admits that people began coming to him even when he was a novice says a minuscule amount of Common Sense would have one agreeing with Dave Hunt and said unquestionably his institutes Calvin's institutes could not possibly have come from a deep and fully developed Evangelical understanding of scripture instead they came from the energetic enthusiasm of a recent law graduate and a fervent student of philosophy and religion a young genius devoted to Augustine and a newly adopted cause he saw it with His Brilliant legal mind
to make up what for what he lacked in spiritual maturity now that's if he was really a true convert to Protestant Christianity I don't think he was now let's look at the connection to the gnostics and this is the book it's a great book here another book by doctor Ken Johnson the Gnostic origins of Calvinism on page 14 he says here what we know about the gnostics came mainly from the church fathers irenaeus and hippolytus until see some people could say well you know it was just Christians misrepresenting what the gnostics believe until though the uh Gnostic library at nagamandi Egypt was found in 1945 and the contents of this Library confirmed with the church fathers or what the church fathers stated that had been the current Gnostic belief system so let's keep let's look at this this is continuing page 14. now I'm going to read this and pay close attention here because this is this is uh quite amazing this is what gnosticism believe okay gnosticism taught that there are 30 eons or gods that exist in the pleoroma outside time and space the goddess Sophia created the Demi urge a Creator angel who the gnostics called the god of the Old Testament Yahweh so they say Sophia that God is Sophia created Yahweh right this is gnosticism and they say the god of the Old Testament was created by Sophia called the Demi urge and he was a tyrant and being unaware He was unaware of the eons or the other gods and he thought he was the only God and it says here but this God of the Old Testament this bad Demi urge that the gnostics say they say he created man true enough but Sophia gave man a spirit some may be saved if they do enough good works but some are predestined to go to hell so what gnostics taught now remember this is in the first century this is 300 you know years before Augustine so the gnostics were teaching some are predestined to go to hell gnostics have spirits that are emanations from Sophia this makes them predestined to be saved it is impossible for them to lose their salvation it does not matter if their behavior is good or evil now this was a teaching the Demonic doctrine of demons this is the Demonic doctrine of demons
from gnostics you hear what I'm saying they said some are predestined to be saved gnostics did some are predestined to go to hell forever but it has nothing to do with your behavior how you live your life whether it be good or evil this is the origin of the doctrines of Augustine and Calvinism and this is why you see such strong language against these ideas in second Peter in Jude in first second third John in Revelation because this was toward the end of the first century when when the apostles wrote those books Peter and John and they were fighting this already it's nothing new Under the Sun all right I'm not going to go ahead and read all the rest of the of their nonsense there this is more from the Gnostic origins of Calvinism let's take it on down a little further so that's the early gnosticism gnosticism broke into two camps one of them was by uh led by a guy named valentinus this guy actually met the Apostle John and well John found out he was John was walking into a bath house gets to go take a bath that's how you took a bath back then or you went to the lake he found out this guy was there he wouldn't go in no it wasn't this guy I'm sorry I'm getting I'm confused it was another guy but that's how John was though John was like oh that heretic's here I'm out the Apostle John but Valentina said this now listen to this it's amazing he said saving faith and remember the gnostics mixed Christianity and this occultism together okay so Valentina said saving faith comes from your spirit if you are one of the chosen men are born saved and some are not predestined to be saved but are predestined for hell this was valentina's Doctrine huh he said the rest might be saved through works now the Calvinists wouldn't accept that but they accept this other right only those whose Spirits are emanations from Sophia are predestined to be saved all others are predestined to hell this is that double predestination and those predestined for salvation do not need to practice good works do you see this this was the teaching a valentinus the Gnostic this is the teaching the basic teaching right here in fact this one little paragraph there's one little paragraph here encapsulates the doctrines of Calvinism once saved only saved
predestination unconditional election some are chosen to be saved some are chosen to be damned all the way back to the gnostics not the Bible the Nazi and it doesn't matter how you live if you're predestined for salvation you do not need to do anything you don't have to live holy obedient nothing you don't I mean there's there's Christians out there preaching that that Christians once you're saved you don't even have to repent anymore not to mention you can fall away and be lost as the Bible teaches right unbelievable let's keep going here manichaeism or manichaeism this came around about 80 50 252 I'm a guy named Mains he formed a set called the mannequins they mixed Christianity with valentinian gnosticism and other Persian elements he stated that his teaching came from Christ in the Persian Magi Manny taught that there are two Gods one evil and one good he taught Jesus came to reconcile man to Satan the dark God but Jesus he said Jesus did not undergo punishment on the cross so he denied the cross this almost sounds like uh Islam because this is where Islam goes they deny Jesus died on the cross this Manny Guy taught that man does not have free will and some are born with their nature totally depraved and they don't have the ability to make choices While others are born nearly perfect Manny said he was the comforter the paraclete so he claimed to be the Holy Spirit he also said that he was that which is perfect Manny taught that vegetarianism and marriage and having children or sins and that there was a Purgatory for purifying Souls I wonder where they that ended up 252 purgatory Roman Catholic Church didn't come around the 313. ah the Roman Catholic Church adopted the idea of purgatory from Manny from Manny the Gnostic well it doesn't stop there because uh Augustine was a mannequin he was a gnostic Manny follower for eight years uh oh eight years he was into this group so when he comes into Christianity he realized that that Pure manichaeism or manichaeism would not would not fit with Christianity so he changed it a bit and came up with the idea that a Christian is predestined for salvation not because of anything in himself but because God simply ordained it without any explanation this had to be because mankind is so totally depraved and unable to do anything in and of himself thus the
doctrines of predestination total depravity and bondage of the will were formed in Augustine when he was a mannequin gnostic that interesting of course I think Dr Johnson is too kind to August David is now the apostolic fathers when we talk about the issue of free will this man have a free will was it ever taught in the church well it's not taught in the Bible that man doesn't have a free will choose you this day whom you will serve right whosoever will right those things are if you continue if right so if we follow the church the early church fathers I'm talking about before Roman Catholicism came in the early church fathers going all the way back to Ignatius of Antioch made statements clearly that said that mankind has a free will Ignatius of Antioch he says here seeing then all things have an end and there is set before us life upon our observance of God's precepts but death as a result of Disobedience and everyone according to the choice he makes you see that Ignatius of Antioch you know who he was discipled by Peter and Paul and he taught It Is by Disobedience that everyone makes their own choices y'all see that you can keep reading he says according to the choice that he makes shall go to his own place let us flee from death and make the choice of life if anyone is truly religious he is a man of God but if he is irreligious he is a man of the devil made such not by nature but by his own choice so Ignatius of Antioch discipled by Paul and Peter said it's by your own choice you choose to obey God walk with God believe God you choose to disobey God you choose to live in wickedness let's keep going Justin Martyr who lived 100 A.D to 165 second century Christian apologist he said this but that you may not have a pretext for saying that Christ must have been crucified and that those who transgress must be among your nation and that the matter could not have been otherwise I said briefly by anticipation that God wishing man and angels to follow his will resolve to create them free to do righteousness possessing reason that they may know by whom they are created and through whom they were not existing formally do now exist with a law that should they should be judged by him if they do anything contrary to right reason and ourselves we men and angels shall be convicted of having
acted sinfully unless we repent beforehand if the word of God foretells that some angels and Men shall certainly be punished it did so because it foreknew that they would be unchangeably Wicked but not because God created themselves everybody see that so that if they repent all who wish for it can obtain Mercy from God look at that Free Will in men Justin Marner Temptation the Assyrian 120 to 180 a pupil of Justin Martyr he said our Free Will has destroyed us that's it first line our Free Will has destroyed us we who were free have become slaves we have been sold through sin nothing evil has been created by God we ourselves have manifested wickedness but we who have manifested are able again to reject it we have a free will to accept our and indulge our wickedness or to reject it irenaeus the famous irenaeus who wrote against heresies irenaeus of Gaul 130 to 200 the bishop of Leon France he was important linked to the Apostolic Church I mean he says it Plain As It Gets it certainly he had been discipled by polycarp the bishop of Smyrna who is said to have been instructed in the Christian Faith by the Apostle John directly this is what irenaeus said this expression of our Lord he said how often would I have gathered thy children together and thou what is not he said for the fourth the ancient law of human Liberty because God made man a free agent from the beginning possessing his own power even as he does his own soul to obey the behest of God voluntarily and not by compulsion of God for there is no coercion with God but a good will towards us is present with him continually and therefore does he give Good Counsel to all and in man as well as in angels He has placed the Power of Choice everybody see that irenaeus because man is possessed of a free will from the beginning I think agorus of uh Athens on into the second century freedom of choice as to both virtue and vice so there you have it I mean we can keep going he says here I mean this is just too good for his man disobeying true death upon himself so obeying the will of God He Who desires is able to procure himself life Everlasting whoever desires it Clement of Alexandria but we who have heard the scriptures that self-determining choice and refusal have
been given by the Lord to men free will so think about this you see the early church fathers we go from from the Apostle John polycarp Ignatius on up through the secondary irenaeus Clement Theophilus taught free will fifth century you're getting into the corrupt Roman Catholic Church no Augustine no man don't have free will the church taught man had free will to choose the gnostics thought that they did not Augustine trained by gnostics adopted man does not have a free will God chooses some to be saved some to not do you see this is history if the true church fathers did not teach this in the first century the second century the third century why would we believe that this is the established doctrine of church should be Covenant I didn't need it right deception the doctrines of men were over the doctrines of the Apostles now this is a great book that um actually talked to this brother many years ago when I was writing Grace abuse I never got the book but I did find a quote from the book and I called the author to make sure I had permission to use it but this guy this is an 800 page book this guy wrote right here 800 pages is excellent extensively documented it's called the believer's conditional security by Daniel corner and I like we talked on the phone we had a good talk this was 1997 somewhere around that time period but we talked about this aspect of John Calvin the burning at the stake of Michael Services the doctor The Physician Michael services now most most people don't know about this and they but they don't and they don't even know about this and they don't know that this was really just one instance of many okay but this was was so well documented that it shows that Calvin had intent upon killing Michael cervatus if he ever got a hold of him simply over theological differences and that even years later after Calvin had this poor man burned at the stake with green wood so it would take longer that he did not repent of committing murder simply over a theological difference no crime was committed just theological doctrinal differences so let's let's look at this because again this is again this is well documented I have it in Grace abuse as taken from Dan Corner's book
uh and I I had multiple I had the Encyclopedia Britannica I mean there's a lot of sources that document this event so this is not a conspiracy theory this is history it says on October 27 1553 John Calvin the founder of Calvinism had Michael cervatus a Spanish physician burned at the stake just outside of Geneva for his doctrinal beliefs he the originator of the popular doctrine of once saved always saved known in certain circles has the perseverance of the Saints violated The Cry of the Reformation solo scripture by murdering a doctrinal heretic without scriptural justification this event was something John Calvin had considered long before Michael Services was even captured for John Calvin wrote his friend Farrell on February 13 1546 seven years prior to Michael servants arrest and went on record saying if he servitist comes to Geneva I shall never let him go out alive if my authority has any weight that sounds like pretty clear intent he will not leave Geneva alive if I catch him does that sound like a Christian no evidently in that day John Calvin's Authority in Geneva Switzerland had ultimate weight this is why some referred to Geneva as the Rome of protestantism well they got that right and to John Calvin as the Protestant pope of Geneva yep during cervatus's trial John Calvin wrote These are documented from his writings I hope that the verdict will call for the death penalty laughs who do you think had Authority and influence over the jury there was no democracy in Geneva all this reveals a side of John Calvin that is not well known or very appealing to say the least obviously he had a prolonged murderous hate in his heart and was willing to violate scripture to put another to death in a most cruel way although John Calvin consented to Michael cervative's request to be beheaded he acquiesced to the mode of execution employed but why did John Calvin have a death wish for Michael Services well let's continue to rescue servants from his heresies that's what he was trying to do he's thought now does this not sound just like the Roman Catholic Inquisition of all those medieval centuries leading up to this rescue him from his hair and Calvin replied with the latest edition of his Institutes of the Christian religion which served as promptly returned with insulting marginal comments despite Services sick please Calvin who developed an intense dislike for service
during their correspondence refused to refer return any of the incriminating material so John Calvin had sent Michael Services because Mike he had heard Michael Services was um didn't agree with his Doctrine his theology so Calvin says I'll convert him I'll send him my book sound like it like what goes on today right I'll convert him so Michael Services read the book and put a lot of notes throughout it where he disagreed and sent it back this was like slapping Little John Boy in the face right so um you can see where John was developing an offense and a bitterness and an anger but it turned into murder I mean it turned into murderous attitude and and eventually murdered now listen to this here let's continue he says convicted of heresy by the Roman Catholic Authority service escape the death penalty by a Prison Break heading for Italy service is unaccountably stopped at Geneva where he had been denounced by Calvin and the reformers he was seized the day after his Revival so he escapes Rome now these people were escaping man Rome was slacking he escapes Rome flees to Geneva arrested the next day right poor guy he's having a hard hard time of it it says he was seized the day after his arrival condemned as a heretic when he refused to recant and burned in 1553 when the apparent tacit approval of Calvin in the course of his flight from Vienna servant has stopped in Geneva and made the mistake of attending a sermon by Calvin he was recognized and arrested after the service Calvin had him arrested as a heretic convicted and burned to death from the time that John Calvin had him arrested on August 14th until his condemnation Michael's servant has spent his remaining days in an atrocious dungeon with no light or heat little food and no sanitary facilities Let It Be noted that calvinist of Geneva put half green wood around the feet of service and a reed strong with sulfur on his head it took over 30 minutes to render him lifeless in such a fire while the people of Geneva stood around to watch Michael's servantage suffer and slowly die just before this happened the record shows that pharaoh Calvin's close friend and Associate walked beside The Condemned man kept up a constant barrage of words in complete insensitivity to what servitists might be feeling all he had in mind was to extort from The Prisoner and
acknowledgment of his theological error a shocking example of the soulless cure of souls after some minutes of This Server deceased make any reply and prayed quietly to himself when they arrived at the place of execution Farrell announced to the watching crowd here you see the power Satan possesses when he has a man in his power this man is a scholar of Distinction and he perhaps believed he was acting rightly but now Satan possesses him completely as he might possess you should you fall into his traps that's intimidation of the crowd when the Executioner began his work servitists whimpered a whispered with trembling voice oh God oh God the thwarted Pharaoh snapped at him have you nothing else to say this time servant is replied to him what else might I do but speak of God thereupon he was lifted onto the pyre and chained to the stake and a wreath strong with sulfur was placed on his head when the were ignited a piercing Cry of horror broke from him Mercy Mercy he cried for more than half an hour the terrible Agony continued for the pyrian had been made half green wood which burns slowly Jesus Son of the Eternal God have mercy on me the tormented man cried from the midst of the flames and here's here's the documentation of all this you see this why clip Wycliffe encyclopedia Michael's Services the Martyr I mean it's just unbelievable now let me ask you this before we go on to this other Dan Corner in his book made the illustration what would our church think if Pastor Dean tied up one of his dogs in the backyard to a pole and burned the dog to death slowly with Greenwood would anyone from henceforth attend this church or this ministry why because that would speak volumes to the character and the Heart to the belief system that I had you would think he is mentally deranged demon-possessed heretic if I burned my dog at the state now let me let me let me just put this to you also I couldn't tie anybody's dog to a steak and burn I believe in hunting for survival and
for food but I don't like I don't get joy out of killing things right not even animals that's why I know like you know you see the eskimos and the Native Americans and when they when they kill an animal they're just very somber and serious about it it's very sacred to them why because they know hey um we shouldn't do this flippantly even take an animal's life and here we have one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation having a man horrendously horrifically tortured burned at the state that I don't know that there's anything more painful than fire right and you sit here and you think about that and you're like just because servitists didn't agree with your theology now some people some people try to say well you know John Calvin repented and I won't read all of this oh I guess I left that one out but anyway I was going to say I left out the part where Calvin wrote a letter seven years or some years later where he he never repented he justified the act of doing it so he didn't repent of this but let's keep going there was a book that was written by name a guy named uh katret who was trying to clear the record for Calvin and you know basically he's trying to make Calvin look better than he that he really was and tried to justify the execution of Michael cervatism so here's a guy a pro Calvin guy writing a book but in his book he admits that Michael Services wasn't the only one he says in his book he says it's it's precisely contrite's favorable portrayal of Calvin that gives credit to the reality of the no less than 38 executions recorded in his book despite catrette's careful downplaying make no mistake history clearly records that Calvin both directly and indirectly had both men and women jailed tortured and executed and he not only approved of such practices but instigated them and this is a list of just a few of them um freckles Durant dies under torture without admitting to the crime of spreading the plague his body was then dragged to the middle of town and burned this is in Geneva February of 1545 another following the incident with Danette several more men and women were apprehended including a barber and a
hospital supervisor who had made a pact with the Devil two women were executed by burning at the stake presumably for the crime of sorcery I.E are spreading the plague Calvin interceded apparently to have them executed sooner rather than after an additional time in prison the council followed his directive and urged the Executioner the more diligently in cutting off the hands of the uh male factors I mean it just goes on more executions and tortures 1545 uh carefully watch to prevent death most of the tortured refused to confess means of death very little to include decapitation so they were cutting people's heads off too that sounds like a bunch of crazy Muslim Calvin had the magistrate C's below an anabaptist who was against infant baptism for stating that the Old Testament was was abolished by the new below was Chained and tortured for stating we're not under the Old Testament we're into the new that's what I say a lot so Calvin would have got a hold of me too wouldn't he May 16 1545 the last execution concerning the plague outbreak bringing the total dead to seven men and 24 women a letter from Calvin a test to 15 of these women being burned to the stake Calvin's only concern was that the play did not come to his house man what a guy was accused of writing a poster against Calvin he was arrested and tortured until he admitted to the crime and then he was executed for a poster against Scout now let's read these right here this is first John 3. 11-15 here's what it says for this is the message that you have heard from the beginning that we should love one another not as Cain he was of that Wicked one and slew his brother and wherefore slew he him because his own Works were evil and his brothers righteous Marvel not my brother and if the world hates you we know that we have passed from death into life because we love the Brethren he that loveth not his a brother abideth in death and whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him the very Bible the very word of God that Calvin claimed to adhere to condemns him to hell for being a murderer his very theology is destroyed by the fact that he was an ongoing murderer and hated people who disagreed with him is that not written right here now look at this here's one for you Calvin followers John 16 1-3 these things Jesus said have I spoken unto you that you should not be
offended they shall put you out of the synagogues yay the time cometh that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God's service and these things will they do because they have not known the father nor me see no one with a true born again spirit by the Holy Spirit washed in the blood of Jesus filled having someone having had truly the love of God shed abroad in their heart could not be a person that could say you know what you disagree with me about infant baptism so I'm going to burn you at the stake slowly oh you made a poster mocking me that'd be like me hey oh you made a video you know this guy that makes his videos mocking me and trying to trash let's go hunting down guys and burning meant to stay no what did Jesus say pray for your enemies bless those who curse you do good to them do good to them he said these words right here of Jesus in John 16 1-3 plainly tell you John Calvin did not know God he didn't know the father he didn't know him at all but yet he was killing people torturing people and prison people trying to force people to believe his nonsense of a system of theology and willing to kill to enforce it he only sounds like more like Rome now how could anyone follow that guy how could anyone say oh he's the great it's theologian of all time no it was nothing more Calvinism Calvin himself Geneva all of them they were no more than A variation a slight variation but yet holding many of the same beliefs practices and philosophies of Roman Catholicism but just a slight variation why would anybody follow that man I wouldn't follow that man to the corner grocery store right much less trust his theology for my eternal salvation or my relationship with God no Calvinism is of the devil let's let's just break it down one more time tool it total depravity Calvin says Calvinists say you can't come to God you're totally
depraved no one can come to God by their own free will you don't have a free will you don't have a choice some are chosen some are not but even the chosen can't come to God only God he does it all and even to the point that he you get saved before you believe all right unconditional election you're chosen before the foundation of the world not by God's foreknowledge he just chose some to be saved a group to be saved a group to be damned for eternity and there's nothing you can do to change it one way or the other the Bible says choose you this day whom you will serve repent or you will perish it's unbelievable limited atonement Jesus only died for the elect for this chosen group yet the Bible says Jesus died for all men Sins Not for ours only but for the sins of the whole world irresistible Grace Calvin said you can't resist if you're one of the chosen you can't ever resist God the Bible says you do always resist the Holy Ghost even as your fathers did quench not the spirit grieve not the Holy Spirit and then they teach because you're chosen because you can't resist God because you Jesus died for you you're part of that chosen if you're part of the chosen you cannot ever fall away and be lost go to hell this system is just of the devil that's all I mean there it is just run back through it a little bit Jesus said if I be lifted up I will draw all men to me so all men are being drawn but not all men are being saved God Wills or desires all men to be saved but they're not so men are resisting the will of God for them free will free choice there it is the Greek word god wishes desires all men to be saved come to the knowledge of the truth there's just a few of those verses just letting you see it again limited atonement this one just irritates me tomorrow limited atonement Calvin says Jesus didn't die for everybody and the Apostle John says he is the propitiation the sacrifice for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world crazy in it once saved always saved now granted the doctrine of once saved always saved I believe didn't start with Augustine or Calvin or even the gnostics
I believe it was the first lie of the Garden of Eden because the first lie I mean this is what was God trying to teach mankind he puts the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil there he puts the Tree of Life there they have all these other trees in the garden they can eat from God tells Adam and Eve don't eat at the tree of the knobs of Good and Evil the day you eat of it you shall die Satan comes in and says you know what you can eat that tree and you won't die so God says look obey me and live forever conditional Satan says no no no humankind mankind Adam and Eve you don't have to obey God you can disobey and still live forever and get this knowledge of Good and Evil you can get this apple it's the first lie you guys it's the first lie you cannot live any way you want to live and think I don't care how I don't care if you've been saved a week you've been born again and truly in Jesus for a week a year 10 years 20 years 30 years at any point with your free will you can choose I'm gonna go rebel against God depart from God live in sin fall away or or depart from the truth of God start believing lies and you can walk away from God if you want to because it's free will you have a free will you can resist you're not a robot you're not forced God put the two trees in the garden so they were so he could show mankind there is a choice you can choose to do it my way or you can choose to do it Satan's way the bad way you choose and the whole system of the gnostics of Augustine of Calvin was no you can't choose God chooses for you can y'all see this or is it just me the ultimate nonsense that's why I called it here the dead tulip of cowardice it's there it's just death false Doctrine is death do you know that there's a story and I think uh and I'm going to close with this there's a story in um and I can't remember I think it's in Dave Hunt's book what love is this that's a great book If you're looking at a book for to deal with Calvinism that one is what love is this by Dave Hunt though he still adheres to what saved always say even though he rejects the other four points of Calvinism he clings to that one I don't understand after he takes a book that's thick slams and exposes Calvinism uh but the Believers conditional eternal security by Dan Corners another great book I have another book by a Baptist believe it or not a book by a Baptist Seminary Professor from way back probably I think he probably wrote it in
the 1950s called life in the Sun s-o-n Life In The Sun by Shank another great book uh hard to believe that a Baptist Seminary Professor wrote that against once they've always say but he was just being true to the scriptures um but in one of those but I'm pretty sure it's him what love is this by hunt he tells the story a woman wrote to him about her husband who had become a calvinist he had not been a calvinist before but he became a full five-point calvinist reformed you know the whole nine yards and so you know he's thinking of course that because he's you know because he's seeking God and because he's in the word and because it's all of this you know he's he's one of the chosen he's got to be right so this guy you know he's living his reformed calvinist Christianity and all of a sudden he begins you know the struggle that we all have with temptation and the lust of the Flesh and sin and those struggles and he began to really struggle with sin and begin to fall back into sin begin to you know I think drinking and sexual immorality and all this stuff and the conclusion he came to when he he would try to repent and he would try to stop those things and he would find himself still just falling back in him again and again and again and again the conclusion that he came to was I must not be one of the chosen I must be one of the chosen to be chosen to damnation so he took upon himself the belief that he was not one to be saved and just went full-blown into the wickedness because he began to believe that he was pre-destined by God that God predestined him to be Wicked that was in Huntsville yeah yeah he needed Deliverance exactly you need deliverance from his demons and he didn't understand the sin and habitual sin is a choice and sometimes yeah there can be a demonic stronghold there that can be making it overwhelming and you need help but to never think ever believe the devil's lie that there's no hope for you that you're one of these predetermined to go to Eternal damnation and there's nothing you can do to change that that I mean this is why false teaching I don't care if if entire denomination seminaries and professors believe it and mega churches believe it and I don't care if the majority I don't care if 99 believe it it's dangerous demonic and destructive to believe any false doctrine that some Man created it's just that simple you better read the book the Bible you better read the New Testament thoroughly slowly completely without the
filter of Baptist theology without the filter of Roman Catholic theology without the filter of you know any type of calvinist reformed theology or Luther read it for yourself especially Matthew to Revelation you need to read that because we live now under the New Covenant you need to read that and see what it says what it requires of you what it doesn't require and believe what it says period because Rome has deceived us and lied to us from its beginning but so has Calvinism John Calvin lied and taught things that were false Luther taught things that were false you know we could almost just let this be church history class almost today so this really has been because a great portion of the Reformation was around John Calvin so anyway I'm going to stop this class today I can't believe I got through all that in less than well no what time what time did we start 9 30 and it's yeah okay I figured well anyway this is uh Redemption class seven just so you remember that we are dealing with the topic of Salvation and Redemption and things that are salvation issues and so we've been covering that thoroughly we started with the blood of Jesus but anyway I hope you guys learned something today about Calvinism of course I'm not getting today the purpose of today is not getting into the doctrines going through all the scriptures on proving why the doctrine of once they've always saved are unconditional eternal security or once they've always said no matter how you live I've already covered that actually covered that in what the last three Redemption classes I think all right anyway class dismissed God bless you guys
