Thank you, Jesus. It's hard to fathom that the sinless, spotless son of God went and was beaten and nailed to a cross for our sins. He didn't deserve it. but did it for us, Lord. And I am so grateful you did, Lord. And we thank you for the precious blood that was shed to wash our sins away, to give us healing and deliverance, and to give us the hope of eternal life with you. Can we do that again? I think we need to worship the Lord with that. Just keep exalting him for another minute here. Worship the Lord for thou Lord are high above all the earth. Amen to that. Well, you may be seated this morning. We welcome everyone to Fire and Grace Church. Um, if you got a seat in the middle somewhere, you might need to scoot in. We might need to I don't know how many seats we have left. Okay, we got two up front if you need anybody needs one. All right. All right. Well, I hope you have your Bibles today. We're going to obey the Lord on something. And you graduates, y'all ought to know this very well. y'all almost ought to be able to get up here and preach it yourself. But um as I was praying last night and this morning, I just felt the Lord wanting me to uh talk about something that I've talked about many times. And uh it's about hearing God's
voice. And this is absolutely I think apart from the basic gospel message itself about believing in Jesus that he died for your sins that he rose from the dead and that you have to repent turn from your sin and follow him. Apart from that, I think one of the most important things that I can teach you and that I should exhort you to do is to make sure that you are close enough to the Lord in these last days to hear his voice. And you're going to need to keep hearing his voice because things are things are going to get crazy in the world. And you're going to have to be led by the Holy Spirit. And uh the Lord's going to use a lot of different ways to do that. And you have to be sensitive to his voice and you can't harden your heart. Um I want you to turn with me first. We're going to go to Hebrews 3. We're going to start at verse 12. And I know this is repetitious, but I had no idea too that we'd have so many people here today. We've got young ones and new ones and old ones like me. And but do we preach salvation one time and then move on? No. Do we preach miracles or healing one time and move on? You know, we got to talk about just hearing the voice of the Lord and being led by the Holy Spirit. Um, it will be a matter of life and death. And there are things that if you don't do that the Lord's leading you to do, you're going to put your family and yourself in danger. That is unnecessary. You understand? And this verse here, this passage, Hebrews chapter 3, verse number, oh yeah, I said 12, didn't I? He said, "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ if Jordan, where's Jordan? If if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end. Does that sound like we're once saved, always saved, no matter how we live? No. He says, "While it is said today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke, how be it not all that came out of Egypt by Moses, but with whom was he
grieved 40 years, was it not with them that had sinned in the wilderness, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? And to whom he swear that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believe not. So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Now, let's keep reading. Let us therefore fear lest the promise being left us of entering into his rest any of you should seem to come short of it. Now I'm going to stop right there but I want to back up to this. What he's talking about was, you know, God was manifesting himself in the wilderness to the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. They could see the pillar of fire by night. They could see his glory cloud by day. They could see him at times speak to Moses out of that cloud. They heard his voice on the mountain. They saw him part the Red Sea. They saw these things. And yet, what did they do? Instead of continuing to listen to the Lord and to Moses and to Aaron, what did they do? They provoked the Lord in the wilderness. Now, we think sometimes if id have been there, I wouldn't have done that. Really, I think about Solomon who saw the Lord twice. The Lord appeared to him twice and the things that God revealed to Solomon and yet he disobeyed God's written word, multiplied wives to himself, pagan wives, and they took his heart away from the Lord. So, this is a serious thing. And when you see the word believe here, it doesn't just mean to believe it in your head. It means that you believe it enough to obey. See, I I've said this before. Y'all have heard me say believe in the Bible. Pistuo, that Greek word means to obey the Lord. It means to continue in a walk with him. All right? It doesn't just mean, "Oh, I believe that and then I do whatever I like." That's not it. That's what most of American Christianity says. I believed in Jesus. Oh, I believe. I prayed the prayer with the Baptist preacher up front. And now they don't even go up front anymore. They just slip their hand up. Nobody will see it. Put it back down. But I prayed that prayer and I believe but they don't obey. And then they go into the wilderness which is our walk in the world and provoke the Lord to anger. And what happened? They started indulging in fornication, adultery, idolatry and just flatout rebellion. Ah, who is this Moses guy? He thinks
he's all that. They ain't listening to him anymore. Let's get our sensors out and we we're going to do this thing. Oh, that you know that story ought to scare the hell out of everybody because the Lord just said, "We're bypassing the whole thing. You're just going straight to hell." Sons of Kora opened up the ground and they went straight in. I call it the reverse rapture. But they provoked the Lord in the wilderness instead of continuing to listen to his voice, humble themselves, and obey him even when it looked ridiculous. Now, I was talking to Pastor Wall-E yesterday. I said, 'You know, sometimes the Lord, just like he did with them, he'll put you in a spot, mountain right here that you can't go over. Mountain over here that you can't go over, enemies, Egyptians behind you, so you can't go backwards. And the Red Sea in front of you, you're trapped. But the Lord says, "Move forward." But Lord, there's a sea right here in front of me. And what did he say? Move forward. Move forward. You got to be able to hear his voice. And the Lord will speak to you directly. If you're one of his sheep, he's going to speak to you directly and he will speak to you through other people. He still does that today. You got to be able to recognize his voice. Even if a little child walks up to you and says, "You know, I had a dream last night about you. They might be five years old. You better listen. You better listen." Because the Lord, he will choose all kind of different ways to speak to you. And some of them it doesn't make sense. But you've got to be paying attention. And it's something you have to cry out for that you want more than anything. I want you to go with me, of course, to John chapter 10, and I want to read a few verses here. The Gospel of John, you must hear his voice. John chapter 10. Let's see here. Let's just go down to verse I so much
here. I'm just going to start reading from uh Oh, we'll just go to verse 27. There's so much I could do here, but I don't want to get sidetracked here. Everybody ought to know this verse, but I'm going to point out something here. John 10:27, Jesus said this. He said, "My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me." Everybody see that? My sheep hear my voice. Now, what is the first condition of this? To hear God's voice. You better be one of his sheep. There's a lot of uh goats running around in the church world that sound like sheep. You ever notice how a goat sounds just like a sheep sometime? They sound just the same until the the goats are the ones though that'll climb up and dance on your car and poop on it and everything else, right? Goats are crazy. They'll eat anything. They'll love you one minute and start headbutting you the next. They're schizophrenic. Probably some kind of creation from the Nephilim, which maybe is why the sin offering was put on them, right? All the sin, the scapegoat, right? Um, but Jesus talked about the sheep and the goats and that the Lord's going to come and when he comes, he's going to separate the sheep from the goats. And Jesus identified the sheep here as those who hear his voice and follow him. Does that define your life? Can you say, "I have followed the Lord Jesus and the leading of his Holy Spirit in my life, or am I doing my own will, my own plan? Am I following my own voice? Am I following the voice of some other human that doesn't know the Lord? Who am I following?" I remember Steve Hill in the Brownsville revival. Who are you following? Everybody follows somebody. Everybody's influenced by somebody. Who are you following? Remember Jesus told the Pharisees, they thought they were following God. And he told them, "You are blind guides. You are leading people into the ditch, which is hell. I would hate to be a blind driver for
somebody. That wouldn't be good for me or you, right? My sheep hear my voice. Now, I've pointed this out many times. I wrote this in Grace Abuse in 97. But the verbs here and the verbs follow are both present tense Greek verbs. ongoing continuous action taking place in the present. Say this with me. I am supposed to hear I am supposed to hear the voice of the Lord. the voice of the Lord. If I'm one of his sheep, I'm one of his sheep. Now, if you know you've truly been born again, you've had the witness of the spirit, you've turned from your sin, and you're not hearing from the Lord. Let me tell you what you are. Lazy, distracted, too many other voices because a bunch of noise will do what? God may be speaking, but his voice may be crowded out by all these other things. Also, I remember one of my pastors back in the day, Pastor Larry Lee, who wrote the book here, the hearing ear. He used to say this all the time. He said, "Hearing has to do with proximity." Meaning, if you were down the road here, a a few blocks, I would be speaking, but you wouldn't be hearing me. But as you draw close enough, you could hear me. See, it's not that the Lord's not speaking. He will always speak. And he is speaking. The Holy Spirit is always saying something to his church. But the question is, are we close enough to hear? Have we put aside the noise? Because I'm just going to tell you right now, if you fill your soul and your mind with the noise of the world more than you do with the word of God and time with God, it's going to crowd out the voice of the Lord and you won't be as sensitive. See, the reason he says today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. He's saying your heart, your spirit becomes hardened when you feed it everything else. But what you're supposed to feed it. You hear me? And there's another thing too. I want to say this and I'm going to say it as clear as I
can. To seek to hear God's voice, you have to be careful because the devil will come to counterfeit that. And remember, the devil is in the spirit world and the Lord is in the spirit and he speaks to us in the spirit. So the devil loves to play like he's the Lord and try to tell us things. And this is why we have to know how to decipher, discern, figure out when God's speaking and when he's not. I can say this. If you're not ever not sure about something you think you've heard from God, don't ever move with it. You hear me? If you don't know, you don't go. Right? And the Lord's okay because he knows we're just human and we have this flesh thing we got to carry around. It's a hindrance like an anchor. And he's okay if you say, "Lord, I'm just not sure that's you. I got to know. Please confirm it to me in some way." And you wait patiently. Amen. Until the Lord gives you two or three witnesses. Amen. Amen. See, I I'll tell y'all how it went with me when the Lord told me to run for lieutenant governor. I I did the run for governor exhausted. Didn't want to do it again. Told y'all that. But let me tell you what happened. I'm in Obama carry meeting. I'm sitting there minding my own business, not praying. listen to Chris Anne Hall, constitutional attorney, talk about the Constitution, and she's a Christian. And I'm just sitting there in the front row just going, "Matt, wow. That's everything she's saying right here, I said over those two years." And then the Holy Spirit came over me. When I say the Holy Spirit came over me, I'm talking about the peace of God to the point I was almost in tears sitting in a second amendment bamicary meeting. I wasn't in church, y'all. Wasn't singing songs or praying or anything like that talking about guns, right? I guess there is some glory on that, right? But I'm sitting there and I'm thinking about it. And as the the power and presence of God comes over me, and this is what I'm talking about, the witness of the Holy Spirit. I'm going to get to that in a second. But the witness of the Holy Spirit is the same presence of Jesus that you feel when you're born again. And if it's not that exact same presence and witness, don't trust it.
But I'll never forget what I felt when I was born again. And that is the witness of the Holy Spirit. And that's the way he's going to confirm to you. Many times he's going to show you that he is saying this, that he is speaking it to you. Now, let me say many times the Lord will speak to me and I don't feel anything. That's the ones I put on the back burner and wait. Okay, Lord, I need a some confirmation. But I'm sitting there, glory of God comes on me so strong. Peace of God comes to my heart and the Lord says these words inside of me. Not like you hear me now, but inside he spoke very clearly. He said, "You are going to run for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama." I was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no." And he went, "Yes, you are." I was like, "Oh, boy." But I knew it was him. But now here's what happens. I didn't want to do it. I was like Jonah. I wouldn't run the other way. Right? But over the course of the next like two years, I just kept praying. Lord, do you really really do I have to do that? Do you want me to do that? And then what happens is is that the devil comes in and goes, "Yeah, you didn't really hear that. You didn't really hear that." You start getting that. So you start getting that doubt. So then I started praying. I said, "Okay, Lord, I know you did, but can you really let me know again?" And the next thing I know, I walk into the church one Wednesday night for prayer and I go to my desk in there and there's this box laying there and I open it up and it's the this Cherokee Tomahawk Black Robe Regiment Award from Colonel Allan West whom I have always admired as a man of God and as a warrior. And I just couldn't believe it. Had my name on it. And I mean this whole thing. And then and the Lord immediately when I picked up that Cherokee tomahawk, he said, "You wanted confirmation? Here it is." Oh. And then there was another thing. I walked out one day to uh talk to S. He was doing some work for me at my house in the backyard. And I walked out and talking to him about him. I was asking him to pray for me about running for lieutenant governor. And as he is standing there, I'm standing there. I only have like my fence is here. He's parked here with his trailer. So there was only one little strip where I could see my backyard. And as I'm talking to him about, of
course, running as a Republican, a bright red cardinal lands right in my view. Now, had he landed a few feet this way or a few feet this way, I wouldn't have seen him. Of course, you know, red now is the color of the Republican party. And I was like, "No." And then to top, okay, then I said, "Nah." I went inside. No. And the next time I went out in my backyard, I have a shop out behind there and I go out there to work out with weights and I have one window that faces the back that's right by where I work out. And I always open it because to get some air in there while I'm working out. When I opened that window, five, six, seven bright red cardinals all landed right there in front of me. I mean, they were on the ground. They were in the bushes. I was like, "What the heck, man? I have to do this." And then I just knew, you know, okay, Lord, I submit. But do you see how I waited and prayed and made sure and then of course the Lord as I stepped out and did one of the first things he wanted me to do to prepare to run for lieutenant governor, I felt the peace and the witness of the Holy Spirit on that. So let me give you first two things that I always give everybody. Number one, the Holy Spirit will never tell you anything contrary to the written word of God. Okay? He's never going to tell you you can divorce your husband or your wife without biblical reasons. Never going to tell you that. Never going to tell you to go have an affair. That kind never going to lead you into sin or false doctrine. Right? But there are things that are not in the Bible. There's nowhere it says, "Hey, Dean Odel, run for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama." I've looked. I've read the whole thing. It doesn't say that in there. Right? So, how do you know you're supposed to do something that is not in here? That you have to hear and let the Lord confirm. Okay? Now, he could he can sometimes take the scriptures that you're you're just reading and all of a sudden it leaps off the page to answer or confirm what he's telling you in some way. Like I remember when he told me this, I happened to be reading I don't know what it was, but then all of a sudden the word governor was there. I like Lord. All right, I got Yeah, I got it. And so the Lord is going to speak through his word. But the second way is what I've been talking about, this
witness of the Holy Spirit. I want you to go to Romans chapter 8 and then we're going to go to Colossians 3. But Romans 8. Now let's go down to verse 14. He says, "For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. daughters as well. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry aba father. The spirit itself or himself beareth witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Everybody see that? This is what I'm talking about. Now go to Colossians 3. Colossians 3:15 is a simple command. Did y'all know it was a command and not a suggestion? Let the peace of God rule your hearts to the which also you are called in one body and be you thankful. Let the peace of God rule your hearts. Now, the peace of God he's talking about is that witness of the Holy Spirit when you feel his peace. Not fleshly peace or worldly peace. You can smoke a joint and feel some peace. You can drink a six-pack and feel some peace. That's not what I'm talking about. Not talking about that. You can make a decision and just because you've been in a quandry, you make a decision, all of a sudden you feel better about things. That doesn't mean that's the peace of go God. That's just you are no longer in conflict because you finally made a decision to do something one way or the other. So that's a that's a what I call there's a human emotional fleshly peace that you can have over something is not the Lord. A lot of people say, "Well, I have peace about it. I have peace about drinking this 12pack." Well, I'm or or I'm Oh, I love this one. I'm not convicted. I'm not convicted about it, brother. If you are, that's good. Like, do you know what the word says about drunkenness, right? You don't have to be convicted about it, right? But he says, let see that word means you have to allow the peace of God to be. And what it says here, the rule, if you even look this up in the Strongs, it says the word umpire in it. And us old baseball players know what that means. An umpire calls something what? safe or out. Right? A lot of things the
Lord doesn't have to give you a whole paragraph and explanation to know not to do something or a situation to not get in or a person to not hang out with. He can just you can feel his peace leave. And every single time I have gone against this witness of the spirit or absence of this witness, every time I've gone against it, I have made a terrible mistake. Some old preachers used to call it the red light, green light. And you know, see women, let me tell wives, let me help y'all with something. Sometimes your husband say something like they may even be quiet, but they finally say, "No, we're gonna do it this way or we're gonna do that or we're going to do this." And a man sometimes just wants you to do what he says without him having to explain the whole thing. I can't explain to you ladies why, but sometimes we're just like, just do what I said. I don't have time or the mental energy to explain the whole reason why I want you to do this thing. That's the same way with me as a pastor or church member. Sometimes I just say stuff. I don't have time to give you the whole backstory. And sometimes it's not about time. Sometimes you don't need to know the whole backstory. You either trust me or you don't. But just know you don't always know sometimes a backstory for years leading up to a decision. Okay. But this kind of stuff, hearing the hearing God's voice, letting that peace rule your heart. So vitally important. I can't stress it to you enough. Now, the opposite of that, what the Lord gives you, he gives you peace as go. He'll give you a heaviness, a grieve. You just won't feel good about it. You you sometimes you almost feel sick about it. It's like, I know I'm not supposed to do this. You just know it. You just know when you know her, right? Always pay attention to that. Don't ever say, "Ah, I'm going to go override that." If you're a if you're a born again Christian and you're praying and you're asking God to lead you and the Holy Spirit moves on you and says is is he's not talking, he's not giving you words in your mind, but he's giving you uh you just feel it. Don't do it. Don't get on that boat or don't get on that plane or don't go with this person or don't go to this place. You better not do it. And he don't have to explain it all to you. There's times, God, recently I was to go on a trip. In fact, it was a hunting trip with friends that I know
and trust. And right before I was to leave, the Holy Spirit came on me and I had this terrible feeling. Don't go. Do not go. And I tried to shake it and I couldn't shake it. And I I told my wife, I said, I I'm going to disappoint them so bad, but I know I'm not supposed to go. And then I went and prayed for a while and prayed in tongues, in the spirit, and it just got heavier and heavier and heavy. Finally, after say a couple of hours, I mean, I knew and then I heard the Holy Spirit speak to me. Do not go. It was like, that's the last time I'm telling you. That's it. You've been warned. And I called them. It was hard for me to call them. We had planned this trip for months, but I had to obey God. It was like the first time I talked to Robkea on the phone. The first time I ever talked to Rob on the phone, he invited me to a conference to speak out in Texas. And I didn't know him very well at that point. I didn't know any of the people who were going to be speaking at the conference. And you know, Rob's pretty popular at that time. And as I'm talking to him on the phone, my spirit is so grieved and heavy like I mean just see in my mind I could have justified it but the Holy Spirit was like saying to me you're not going. And what's amazing is most of the time my wife is we're we're just exactly the same. She's like, I was on the phone talking to him and she's like, you are not supposed to go to that one in Texas. And we didn't know why at the time. We had no outward reasons why. But of course, as the next few years passed and we found out some things about a bunch of people were going to be there and other things, it was actually good. God did not want me putting my name on it, my stamp of approval on it. And I'm glad I didn't go. And who knows, there were some enemies there. They may have had something planned for me to set me up in some way or whatever. All I knew was I had this heaviness, heaviness, heaviness. Do not go. And and I'll say this, everything in me wanted to be friends with Rob and get along with Rob, but the Lord would not allow it because then, you know, stuff starts coming out and I start figuring out what road he's going down with the Torah movement and all that stuff. and and and truly I'm be honest with you if if Rob was not had not been into that stuff into that era he and I would have
been great friends but I had to stand for the truth and not the friendship that I wanted to have with him you know um we can't let our emotions overrule when the Holy Spirit is warning us I can't stress that enough because you might even make a commitment. I made a commitment to go on that hunting trip. Sometimes you have to say, "I was wrong. I should have I should have prayed about that more. I'm sorry. I'll pay for my part of it. Here it is. I'm just, you know, sorry. I can't do it." the word of God, the witness of the spirit or the check of the spirit, the yes or no. You got to listen to that and the gifts of the spirit. Now, this is what I I want to tell you is is vitally important. Go to uh Acts chapter 2 real quick. Y'all hot in here. Is it just me? We hadn't even reached summer yet. The real Alabama summer is not here yet. We might have to put another air conditioner in here. S. Um, what did I just say? What did I Acts two. This is another thing I know. I marvel at this that there are denominations of churches out there that say God doesn't speak anymore. The gifts are not for today. They don't work anymore. And I'm just like, what happened? Did God go mute? Did he lose some power? He think, well, they just don't need to hear from me anymore. It's it's mindboggling, right? The Lord says this that we get Acts chapter 2. I guess I ought to turn there. I keep stopping and preaching for a minute. Right. All right. Two. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, two verse one. They were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind. And it filled all the house where they were sitting. And they were appeared unto them clothed in tongues like as a fire, and it sat upon each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance. And then he goes on to talk about that. And I want to jump over to verse 14. But Peter standing up with the 11, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto
you, and hearken to my words, for these are not drunken as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams, and on my servants, and on my handmaidaidens. I will pour out in those days of my spirit, and they shall prophesy, and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath, blood and fire, and vapor or pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and notable day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. And ye men of Israel says, "Hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you as yeelves also know." And then he goes on, let me just jump down to verse 36. And he says, "Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ." Now when they heard this, they were pricricked in their heart. And they said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are a far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. So how in the world does any man of God stand up with the right a straight face and say that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, the gifts of prophecy, dreams and visions, how dare they say that these things are not for us today. To me, it's just slapping God in the face and saying, "I don't care what you say. I think it's ridiculous to babble in tongues." Well, you better humble yourself. These people saying tongues, the gift of tongues that God talks about in the Bible is of the devil, that's blasphemy. But here what I have to tell you this morning. If you have not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, this is something as a Christian you need to seek God for. Until you receive, until you are able to pray, worship, speak the gift of tongues. Let me tell you why yesterday was powerful. Was yesterday powerful?
Were the gifts of the Holy Spirit moving? Okay, let me tell you. I had a busy week. I had a traveling south Alabama, then North Alabama. Busy week. I was tired. I'm old guy. Driving through those Democratun towns, the roads beat me to death. And I was like, "Lord, help me." But you know what I did yesterday when I had time to pray before I came over to the hotel? I said, "Lord, I'm exhausted. I don't know what to say in English." So, I just prayed in tonesues. I prayed in tonesues for 20, 30 minutes. I got up and got ready. I'm praying in tonesues. I get in my truck to drive over there. The whole way over there, I'm praying in tonesues. And all I'm asking him, uh, of course, my mind doesn't know what I'm saying, but I'm praying with my mind. Lord, I just want you to speak to your people. I just want you to move. And I know I don't feel like I'm even ready for this, but it's not about how I feel. People ask me all the time, how do you do what you do, praying in tongues? Because it says this in turn to um Isaiah 28 verse 11. Let me show you something. This is what he said. This is the prophecy of tongues in the Old Testament. I want you to see what he says about the gift of tongues, the baptism of Holy Spirit. And listen, I know some of you have been taught against this and you've been taught false things about it. Throw that aside and say, "Lord, I'm going to go by what your word says and I'm going to be hungry and thirsty for whatever you have for me." And God takes the foolish things to confound the wise. And there is nothing more foolish appearing or sounding than the gift of tongues. But that's what God has chosen to really launch you in the spirit and give you. And I'm going to show you where it charges you up. But look at this here. He says, "For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people." Keep going. to whom he said, "This is the rest." Somebody say, "This is the rest." This is the rest. Ye may cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing, yet they would not
hear. How many Christians are stubborn about this? And yet the Lord says, "This is the rest." So many times people say, "How do you know what to preach on?" And it was just exactly what I needed to hear. We were talking about it in the car. All kind of stuff I hear all the time, especially from Pastor Wallally and his crew. Say, "How do you know exactly what to preach, when to preach it?" I don't depend on myself. I don't try to figure it out. I don't have a list. You got to preach this and this and I don't do that. Every single time I say, "Lord, please show me what you want for today." And if I don't hear from him about it specifically, I just pray in tones for a while because he said, "This is the way I'm going to speak to you and this is the rest when you're weary." Oh, come on now. Over the years, I can't tell you, I have laid on the floor so exhausted, yet I got to go preach and I just pray in tongues and the Lord, it's like there's a moment just breakthrough and you hear, "Do this." And see, let me tell you something. Nothing is better than to know what the Lord is saying to do at the moment he wants it done. where I had said a word fitly spoken like apples what pictures of gold or something and silver I don't I can't remember how that goes now apples of gold and p pictures of silver or something like that but it's just like the right time listen you young preachers if you ever hear anything from me or learn anything I want to tell you right now hear from God pray in tongues until you know what to preach study Yes. Pray in English. Yes. But pray in the spirit. Pray with the gift of tongues. And then what does it say in 1 Corinthians 14? Anybody that prays in tongue is supposed to pray that they may interpret. And tongues and interpretation is equivalent to prophecy. Meaning you're hearing the inspired words of the Lord giving direction to you. Let's go to put up 1 Corinthians 14. I know most of you know this, but let me ask you, do you do it? How many of you in here has prayed in tongues for at least an hour straight? Anybody done that? Several of you have. Not enough. There are preachers that used to do it for eight hours until they knew
what to do in the service they were going to be doing. say that's just crazy. No, it's called trusting the Lord. The foolishness of God. What? How's it go? We'll get to that in a second. Where where did I tell you? 14. 14. All right. Follow after charity and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy. Let's keep going. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God. For no man understandeth him. How be it in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. Now, just for those, let's back up real quick. Just because there are those who say because Acts chapter 2, they were speaking in known languages that they had not learned. That's what that is. Blah blah blah blah blah. But then Paul talks about unknown that no man knows. Okay? So, there's the tongues of men and there's the tongues of angels. I've never learned Chinese. But if the Lord wanted to give me the ability to speak Chinese in a situation, then he would give it to me, right? And that is a gift of tongues. But there's also the heavenly language that no man knows, no man understands, the devil doesn't understand. And you pray in this unknown tongue that no man understands. How be it? It says in the spirit you're speaking mysteries. Meaning you are speaking things that are hidden that you need to know. You understand? Things you need to know. Then I go to the next one. But he that prophesith speaketh unto men to edification, exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth, builds up, strengthens, charges like a battery himself. So when your battery feels low, what are you supposed to do? Pray in tongues. But you say, "Oh, but the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12, not all speak with tongues." It doesn't say that all can't. It just states all don't because it's something you have to seek. It's something you have to want and it's something you have to step out of the boat when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you have to open your mouth and cooperate. He God's not going to force your mouth to move. And I say, "Pastor Dean, you you preaching that Pentecostal?" Yes, I am. I'm Pentecostal through and through. First church I ever set foot in, first Assembly of God, Opelica, five years old. And you know what I heard in that church? Tongues and interpretation of tongues in the
service as a kid. And it was powerful. And that church was packed back in that day. and say and then that's another use of it because there is a different a diverse tongue for the public service to be interpreted. Okay? But it's mainly for your prayer life and your ability to hear and charge yourself up and know what God is saying. See, I don't have to question God's ways. You understand? His ways work. Amen. His ways always work. You sit there and sometimes you're praying in tongues and thinking the devil's putting in your head, what are you doing? This is useless. You're wasting your time. This is what he always does to you to fight you. You're never wasting your time praying in the spirit with the Holy Spirit, giving you the utterance, strengthening yourself spiritually so that you can hear. See, our spirit man gets weak, it gets wounded, it gets beat up, it gets beat down by this world. And you have to recharge your whole your your spirit, man. We have a spirit, soul, and a body. You have to recharge your spirit by time in the word, prayer, worship, but also praying in the spirit. It talks about that in the book of of Jude. He says, "Building up yourselves in your most holy faith." What? Praying in the Holy Ghost. If you have been lazy and have not obeyed the Lord to seek after this to be filled and for this these gifts to be started in your life, it's time to get off your lazy butt. Turn off the TV. Put down the phone and the tablet. Turn off the secular music and all the entertainment and the doom scrolling and say, "God, I want to be filled. I want to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I want the gift of tongues. I want to prophesy." The Bible says we are supposed to desire these things in our lives. Why? So we can hear his voice. And this is the way he does it. So I don't care if the Baptists don't like it. I don't care if Presbyterians don't like. I don't care if the Lutherans don't like it. I don't care if Episcopalians don't like it or Catholics or anybody else. I don't care if they have a doctrines of death. Say God doesn't speak. God doesn't move. There's no power from God anymore. I don't want to hear it. I don't care. They're just dead churches
with blind leading the blind. Amen. And God, I hate to think of the people that keep following them. It says, "The man who lacks understanding remains in the congregation of the dead." Proverbs says, "Yeah, put that one up. I can't I remember when the Lord showed me that when I was a young man, I read that verse. I was like, "Oh Lord, don't let me be in the congregation of the dead. But but what's a dead Christian? A dead Christian is somebody that's not listening and not obeying. They're living in sin. That church for them is a social club. It's to make them feel better. That's why they go to these places that don't talk about these things. It's comfortable to sit in the back row of a mega church and hear about how to deal with stress at work. And there's just no problems with that, right? cuz everybody's got stress at work. We need to deal with that, right? And you know, I I make I I talk about these things and y'all think I'm just being funny and making up stuff. I've gone to these churches. I' I've gone to multiple big churches and actually heard sit down and the sermon is stress at work. I'm like, you got to be joking me that I'm here today and this is what they're saying. Oh, I remember one big church I went to, whole series on nutrition. I'm like, am I in health class? Did we go back to the ninth grade? I'm like, I I don't want to hear this when I come to church. When I come to church, I want to hear about Jesus. I want to hear what the word says. You know, I pray over my food. It's all sanctified. Even the hog fat, it's all sanctified. Here it is. Proverbs 21:16. The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead. I am not going to be there. What makes us alive is that we pray and hear and obey. You want to be a a a living Christian on fire. It's not about your feelings. I don't feel on fire today, so I'm not. Guess what? We all feel like that. I feel like that most every Sunday morning I get up. Takes me a while to get out of it. I don't go by my my physical body feeling or my emotions. I said, Lord, I want to be filled. I want to hear your voice and I want to do that. And let me tell you when you are diligent to hear what he is saying and to obey that is where he puts fresh
anointing and power on you. Not while you sit and disobey. All these people say, "Oh, I want the anointing." Do you do you want the power of God on you and flowing through you? You have to be doing something. with it. It says the Lord worked with them. What? As they went, right? You have to be hearing and obeying. The only reason God's anointing and presence is in this church and on my life is because I keep trying and seeking him to hear and obey. That's it. hear and obey. Now, I want to get to this. It's only 12. I can't let y'all out yet, right? But this one's very important. I I may not even get to all them, but this one I wanted to get to today. The Lord will speak to you through dreams. Y'all got quiet. And this is very important because this is an area where we get a lot of crazy dreams. Sometimes the Bible even warns that that some dreams can come because of a multitude of activity and business and speaking, you know, and you got to be able to recognize when it's just nonsense. All right? But it's very important sometimes even when you think it might be nonsense. If you had a very vivid dream and it was like in color, crystal clear, and you remember it when you wake up, you better be writing it down. And just let me go ahead and tell you, just for the sake of whoever might be listening, do not buy any type of dream interpretation book. That's divination. It's witchcraft. And I don't care if some Christian prophet put it out because I know one that did years ago. Don't Google it. Yes. Because you're gonna find all kinds of bad stuff. All right? Because the reason I say that only God can give the interpretation of parts of your dream that maybe you can't figure out. You have to just put that on the backboard. That's why you need to write it down and date it. and wait on God. You don't need a uh somebody saying uh oh, if you have a bus in your dream, it means you got to go to school. No, no, no. And sometimes you'll have a dream and
immediately when you wake up and you start thinking about it, the Lord is showing you something about a situation that you're going through and you can see where every part applies. Sometimes you won't know what any of it means. Sometimes you'll know what half of it means. What's wild is when it comes to path. I recently had one dream that I had several years ago that the details of this and it was about one of our political leaders in Alabama and it has come to pass to the tea. Okay. Now, there's still more to it that hadn't yet, but part of it has happened. Exactly. And God allowed me to be right there to hear him talk about he didn't know it was the fulfillment of it. I'll give you this. This was I don't mind saying this because the Nathaniel Led Better the Speaker of our Alabama House is a snake. Now I'm going tell you why I know that too. He just proved it. But give you how dreams work. I had this dream where um I walked up to a cabinet. You know how you have little cabinets and they open up down here? And I walked up to a cabinet and I opened it and this snake jumped out at me. And this snake was like it was not like any other snake I'd ever seen. It was uh black and red camouflage pattern looking. Okay, you know what I'm talking about. like like camo but black and red camo, which is odd except for you know Scott would wear it. Um Johnny Johnny and Scott um and so I thought that was strange and again like I didn't know what it meant when I had this dream. So, I don't know, a few weeks later, I am up in the state house or where the cabinet is, right? And I'm walking around the floor. I think it's the fourth floor where the house is. And I'm and I'm with Kelsey's with me and another gentleman who we won't mention. And uh in fact, well, I better not say that publicly. Um, but we walk around and we're looking for any of these legislators that might be there because we were trying to talk to them about HB30 and we're confronting them about a bill and we're we're walking down these I mean the halls are huge. You walk in a big U. So we'd walked all the way this way, all the way down the other end and I'm walking back and here comes one guy walking down the hall with the mask on. They were still wearing masks and he's walking by himself down a
hallway and he's wearing a mask and I said, "Are you lead better?" And he said, "Yeah." And of course he knew who I was. But I I gave him my card and we start talking and I you know I basically I was confronting him. Are you going to put your name on the bill? You actually going to support this? It's going to help. I mean, I was just confronting him about his playing games, politic, and but I happened to finally look down at his tie, and his tie was like red and black camouflage. And the Lord said, "Here's your snake." And boy, has it proven to be. And I hope he hears this. But see those kind of things the Lord can show you. I remember one person I was questioning. Were they a real Christian and just struggling with some things or were they an enemy? And I remember they them appearing in my dream and looking me right in the face and all of a sudden turning into a wolf and I was like well that answers that. Right. So dreams are very very important. God will warn you through dreams. And I won't go through all the scriptures about that. But a vision, a vision is just seeing in the spirit world like dreaming, but you're awake. And this happens a lot with me. And let me just tell you, sometimes I can have my eyes open and I see the vision just in my mind. I see it. God shows it to me that way. Sometimes I actually see something around someone or on them or sometimes my eyes are closed. I'm praying for somebody and I see the vision. I see like a movie play. All right, that is a vision. Those are what's called I would call them closed visions. But now when you have your eyes open and there is a massive thing that happens in front of you like I've had before where just heaven open and the glory of God and I'm watching this whole I'm seeing it both with my spiritual eyes and my physical eyes. That's an open vision. Those are rare. They happen but they're rare. A lot of times it's the Lord will just play a short clip of something he wants you to see. Um I'll give you an idea. I was guy when I was pastoring a church in Montgomery came and he wanted deliverance but I something was wrong. I didn't feel good about it and um you know we sit down we're talking and I had known him you know for years and never really had peace. I just knew something was wrong with this dude but I didn't know what it was. Remember in here I just didn't feel good about. So, you know, I didn't trust him anyway. But he's sitting in my office wanting to go
through deliverance. I'm like, "Well, okay." Blah, blah, blah. We're talking. As we're talking, God plays a movie in front of me. I see him dressing up in black clothes with a mask and then going out into the night and raping women. And then the Lord also told me, showed me that he also goes after children. Now, this is not something you can go to the police with, but the Lord was like, "Have nothing to do with this man because he's just here playing a game. He's wasting your time." And I told him, I said, "You are evil." And I said, "And you have an issue lusting after children." And he said, "Yes, I do." It's funny how sometimes they confess. It's like Holy Spirit true serum comes upon them. I said, "Walk out that door and do not come back." back. Now, this is somebody for those of you that need to know. I had witnessed to him and tried to lead him to the Lord for years and finally the Lord had given him opportunity and finally the Lord pulled back the curtain on his evil. Not everybody's who you think they are. I had that happen a few years ago when I got COVID. The Lord showed me a person who came to our deliverance seminar who dispersed it on me and another guy standing next to me on purpose. Showed me she was CIA. Showed me she where she was trained the whole nine yards. Saw the whole movie. Now I don't control that. These are not visions I try to conjure in my head by meditation or visualization. That's all evil. That's all witchcraft. But when the Lord drops it on you, you better pay attention. And sometimes you'll go, I just know. I just know. You know, I just knowm. Well, that's good. We have to be led by the Holy Spirit. Now, I apologize to those that I've taught this to many, many times because you've heard me talk about it, but I know I was supposed to talk about this this morning for somebody for some reason, but if you ignore the voice of the Lord, you are going to end up in trouble. You hear me? And that's what you know, Wall-E and all his gang talk about how I show up in
their dreams and rebuke him about stuff or give them direction or something. And that's something else, too. Like Paul said when he was they didn't know where to go when he just got stuck, you know, in Acts 16. And so they decided, all right, we'll go to sleep. And that night, he has a dream of a man of Macedonia saying, "Come over here and help us." He says, "I knew then what to do." Right? I wake my wife up sometimes. I'm actually hitting somebody and kicking them. I mean, I'm in physical fights sometimes. That happened this past week. I'm in a fight. So, anyway, let's stand. It's only 10 after 12. Oh, no. Call the Baptist. I don't think they would say that. Oh, you know, we are one body and we have one shepherd and God's given us one book. It's really all here. It's just that not every Christian chooses to follow it. That's what's so sad. Or they'll follow part of it and they won't follow the other part. You got to make up your mind. I'm going to be the Christian that wants it all. I want everything this book says I can have. Everything it says I can do. I want to do it before I leave here. You have one life. You know, I don't know why lately I've been thinking about and I'm only 57, but I I've been thinking about, you know, the the the majority of my life is over. I mean, you think about it. If I live to be 77 or 87, still the majority is over. And I'm thinking, wow, I know one thing I didn't do for the last 38 years was waste my time. I kept trying to follow the Lord even when it was the darkest days. And I don't have any regrets. And that's what I'm saying. You got to be ready. You got to be ready. And don't waste your life on foolish, worldly, sinful, evil things. Just don't waste your life. I mean, that's really, if you think about it, all we have to hand to God. We have nothing else to give him that he needs or wants except us. That's it. All I can say is you made me, I'm yours now.
and all I want to do is get back to you. Amen. Let's pray. Father, we come to you today in the name of Jesus. And we just thank you that you love us so much, that you revealed the truth, that you gave us the the scriptures, Lord, that you inspired the prophets and apostles to write exactly what you wanted to say. And then also, Lord, you bring your Holy Spirit upon us to confirm what you say and what you want. And you lead us into holiness and you lead us into obedience and you lead us into power. You don't want us to be dead and lifeless. You want us to be hearing your voice and doing what you've called us to do so that you can anoint that and flow through us. I pray this for everyone here today, everyone watching and listening, everyone out there, that they'll turn loose of whatever worldly vice has them, and they'll let the blood of Jesus wash that sin away. That they'll bind and rebuke and cast out the demons of that sin and get free and walk with you as a true disciple. Lord, that is my prayer. Jesus name. Hallelujah. So I do want to say that um if you're when you're praying if you're praying for something, it don't matter what it is, healing or deliverance or whatever, if you feel like it ain't working, don't give up. Don't give up. because the harder we prayed and the more that we prayed and asked people to prayed or to pray, it seemed like the worse it got. And and just know that Jesus is never late. He's always on time. And and so you stay steadfast and diligent and you will see miracles. You will see them. So I just want to say, Amen. Amen. That is so true.
