[Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] Okay, we want to welcome everyone tonight. You're listening to Prophecy Quake. I'm your host, Pastor Dean Odel, along with my co-host, Pastor Kevin Wilkinson. Uh we are live here in East Central Alabama. It is June 6, 2017. Uh we are also live right now on Facebook and on YouTube if you want to check those out if you uh and also on at Mixler uh mixlr rather.com. But we want to welcome everyone tonight. Uh it's good to be back. I know we've been out a couple of weeks. Kevin was traveling. I was traveling uh Memorial Day. Hope everyone had a good vacation uh time. But uh we're going to get back in the word tonight. Uh my heart's been a little heavy today. So, I'm going to just uh try to share with as much uh enthusiasm as I can, but this this just has been weighing on me today. So, um we're going to talk about hidden hatred and unforgiveness in Christians. Um now, this is also a word to those who were not saved. They also need to understand that God desires them to repent uh not only of their other sins and believe in Jesus and follow Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but they need to deal with this issue of unforgiveness, hatred, bitterness. Um you know, those things will get in the way of receiving God's forgiveness. So, it's an important issue. Um but we're going to talk about how many Christians uh tonight because because here's the deal. So, so many Christians, folks, and I I I am finding out more and more day by day. Um, so many more Christians uh out there have hidden hatred in their hearts. Now, they would never admit it. We're going to
explain that and going to define that word tonight because Christians know that hatred, you use the word hate. Oh, wait a minute. I don't hate anybody. Um, hatred is such a strong word. But I'm going to show you that the uh the Hebrew and Greek definitions, particularly the Greek definition in the New Testament of hatred, once you really break it down, you discover that uh there's a whole lot of people that really have hatred and unforgiveness in their heart. And and I'm talking about Christian people. And this is a serious serious issue that we need to confront. And a few weeks ago, I did in the series that I'm doing um I'm in part I just finished part four of a series on deliverance on demons and deliverance and I did touch in on it uh forgiveness and unforgiveness in part three as one of the doorways to demon spirits the tormentors. Um and I did, you know, touch on it a good bit, but I just felt again that I really needed to address this last night. I was reading First John and I got to 1 John chapter 2 and the the verses there about hating your brother and just leaped off the page and I started looking again at the at the definition of those words and um and then there's some situations going on. I mean in even within our church with uh extended family members and um there's just situations. There's constant situations. a phone call yesterday with a lady and and you can you know just so many people there's so many people out there who have been hurt and wounded and they've been done wrong by uh pastors and churches and friends and family and you know spouses and and I mean there's just so many so many people doing wrong out there and doing others wrong and there's so many uh people being hurt and Christians being hurt but uh Christians Christians aren't truly dealing with uh when they're hurt, dealing with the unforgiveness that comes in, the offense, the hurt, and then it turns into hatred and bitterness. And it's it's a serious issue. And we have to we really really have to deal with these things and and deal with them correctly. And and and here's the thing. Most people and again, most Christians when I start bringing it up, I I had this happen just a few weeks ago. You know, somebody I can I can listen to somebody talk for a few minutes and I can tell when they have a a hurt or an old wound or they're still or they're angry or they're bitter and they have unforgiveness towards someone and and you know, I just confronted them about it and boom, I confronted them about it and what did they do? the first thing. Oh, no, no, no. I don't have unforgiveness. I don't have I'm just frustrated. I'm just angry. I'm just hurt. Um, but you can tell as the anxiety level rises in their voice, as
the anger rises, as as you know, you're around them two, three, four times and it's always coming up, the same issue, the same people. Um, uh, I know we we seem to be having a few problems, but anyway, I'm going to take these off because I'm getting echo right now. But, uh, anyway, hopefully everyone can hear me uh through Facebook and um, YouTube. I don't know. We may be having a blog talk problem there, but that's all right. Uh Kevin's working on getting that figured out, but uh I can't if I start hearing two and three of myself talking there, I get I it kind of throws me off. But anyway, um and and then the second part of this, and I put in the description of the show tonight, that it's real simple that uh even the people, even the Christians who will admit, yes, I know that I have an issue. I have some hatred. I have some bitterness. I have some unforgiveness in my heart toward a a person or certain people or a family member or a pastor or whatever a church. Um they don't know how to deal with it. They'll say, "I've tried to deal with it, but I don't know how to deal with it." And um anyway, that is what we're going to try to address tonight from the scriptures. Now, I want to read something. This is going to be u Matthew 24. So, if you're uh want to follow along in your Bibles tonight, I want you to turn first to Matthew 24. Uh we're going to start reading here at verse 10, and we're just going to read a few verses down to about verse 13 about how uh what Jesus said. This is, you know, we we really haven't I haven't since the Gog and Magog message really haven't been on end time Bible prophecy. God's had me dealing with other issues, but uh this is an end time Bible prophecy issue. This is something Jesus said would be going on I believe in the people of God among Christians it would be like epidemic proportions and uh here it is. This is Matthew 24 10-13. Jesus speaking here and he says, "Then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another and many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many and because iniquity or injustice people doing other people wrong, doing wrong things." You know, he says, "Because of iniquity, injustice and sin, because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." And I found this interesting, and you know, this is a passage I've taught many, many, many, many times over the 30 years of preaching. And it's a passage that I go back and I look at, you know, and reread often. We have reached. But it really stood out to me today that the context of verse 13 when he says, "But he that shall endure to the end shall be saved." Endure what?
And in in the context here and in these few verses of being offended, being um not letting your love for even those who hurt you and do you wrong, even your enemies, not letting your love grow cold. And the the interesting word here that lets you know this is talking about bornagain bibleelving Christians is the word love here. When he says the love of many shall wax cold, it is the word agape. So it is the the love of God shed abroad in our hearts from the Holy Spirit. Uh uh in fact only a born again Christian who has been made new through the blood of Jesus by faith ha had you know had their spirit made alive again resurrected through true repentance and true faith in in Jesus death on the cross and his resurrection. That person um is the only one who can have the true love of God shed abroad in their hearts as it says in Romans chapter uh five. And so when you see he says there that the love of God, the love that that God wants us to have that he wants to put in our hearts and that he wants us to show to other people even our enemies um is going to wax cold. And that's why it's in the midst of this verse 10 and then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another. And then he says, "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." So, I want to look to at this word hatred. Now, before we before we go any any further, um this is a verse here. We're going to look at Leviticus. I don't know if Kevin if you're able to put those up or not, but uh Leviticus and we're going to jump on over here to Leviticus 19, just verses 17 and 18. And I found this interesting because I was just looking up the words forgive and hate in in the Bible. And I came across this verse. I haven't read in a long time in Leviticus, but he he says this even in the Old Testament, the Old Covenant. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart. Boy, I tell you what, it's pretty. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart. You say, "Well, Pastor Dean, I don't have any hatred in my heart." I'm going to tell you. I'm going to show you. Some of you, you're going to find out tonight. If you're if you're willing to stick in here and let God work on your heart, you're going to find out you do. But he says, "Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart. Thou shalt and any wise rebuke thy neighbor and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. I am the Lord." Now, we all know that was what Jesus repeated. He said, you know, the two commandments, the two greatest commandments, love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul,
mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. I'm just going to tell you right now that you cannot say that you love your neighbor, you love your brother. If you have unforgiveness, bitterness, offense, and yes, even hatred toward them, you you can't you're you're not walking in love for them uh uh for them. And and it's just a fact. Um, and one of our our greatest weapons, you know, I I know it's weird to call it a weapon, but I love, you know, many years ago, Dr. Larry Lee, uh, he was my pastor for a season at Church on the Rock in Rock Wall, Texas, but he had a series called The Weapons of Our Warfare. And one of them, I still have the cassette series at my house right now, but he one one of in the series was the weapon of of love. And uh now again uh we've got wrong ideas about what love is. Um some people think that that means you're not going to have any problems. There's not going to be any division. There's not going to be any strife. There's not going to be any rebuke or correction or uh you know, if you love somebody, you're never going to have to say anything that's going to hurt their feelings or correct them or make them uncomfortable. But that's completely opposite. And I and and before we we dig too much deeper into this, I want to show you and I want you to jump over to Mark, not Mark, but a Matthew uh chapter 10 because Jesus told us in the last days there would be division uh even in families, not just in churches and among church people, Christians, but in families where you know, hey, we should in a family we should be able to get along, but you know, uh That's just not always the case. So, I want to make it clear, this is Jesus speaking here, and I've talked about this in the past, not too long ago. But this is Matthew 10:34, and we're going to read down to uh verse 39 here. But Jesus speaking, he said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foe shall be they of his own household. And he that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross and followeth after me is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it. And he that loses his life for my sake shall find it. So I want to make clear that even Jesus said that there are going to be times you're going to stand for the truth of the word of God, the truth about sin, the truth of any any truth of scripture uh uh going to make people uncomfortable sometimes. And the truth taking a stand for Jesus Christ and the word of God uh on issues where other Christians don't want to agree. They don't want to accept what the word of God says. That's going to cause there's going to be some division.
There's going to be some strife at times. There's going to be some debate, some arguing, some contention. Uh wish it wasn't that way, but it's going to be that way. Jesus said that you're sometimes he said you're going to have to decide over a family member that if you want to get along with them or you want to take a stand for me. So I'm not talking about there's always going to be peace and there's always going to be uh comfort and and there's going to be no problems when you forgive. In fact, there's some people you're going to have to forgive from a distance. uh you don't you don't you're not going to you're not going to need to hang out with them, but you're still going to have to forgive them and not have hatred in your heart and offense and hurt and bitterness toward them even if you can't be around them and you can't fellowship with them. Um some people you you shouldn't be around. In fact, I want everybody to look at Romans. Let's go to Romans chapter 16. Um because the Bible even tells us that there are people that we should separate from at times. Um boy, let me I'm going too far cuz I'm getting in my head. Um some other passages here, but let's go to Romans 16 and then we'll flip over to 1 Corinthians um chapter 5 just to just to cover some things. We're just going to kind of study the Bible tonight. I hope you guys can hang in there with me. But here's Romans chapter 16 and we'll go down to verse 17. I'll let Kevin catch up with me there. Um, he's good. All right. Romans 16:1 17. This is Paul speaking. He says, "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them. uh for they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ but their own belly and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple. So here Paul says look um walking in love, walking in forgiveness doesn't mean you ignore every problem. You don't ignore someone that's that causes division. You don't ignore someone that brings false doctrine or false teaching. Uh you don't ignore these things. Uh you don't ignore sin in the camp. You got to you got to confront it. it's got to be dealt with. Um, but he says here, you know, it's real clear if someone's if if they're causing division and offenses, and the word offenses here means stumbling blocks. They're causing people to stumble. Um, if if a person's like that, it says mark that person and avoid them. So again, forgiveness and love don't does not always mean you're going to be able to fellowship or be with in the presence of that person um all the time. I mean, I went through uh a very difficult divorce years ago that I didn't want to go through. It wasn't I didn't get the divorce and I didn't do anything. Uh there were no grounds for divorce. But the other party, my my ex,
uh she wanted a divorce. she wanted to she didn't want to be a pastor's um wife anymore and there were other issues going on with that and her desires. But, you know, regardless, she went her way and it caused me a lot of hurt and a lot of pain and a lot of anger and a lot of bitterness. And yes, boy, did I I'll admit, man, I had unforgiveness. I had anger. I had bitterness. I had offense. I had, you know, I had hatred in my heart for her for a while and it it began to destroy me and and though uh we never it it never worked out. She went on and got the divorce and and moved on and we we each had went our separate ways, I still had to work through forgiving all the damage that was done to me, to the ministry, to the children, to everything. I mean, it was devastating, but it taught me a lesson and it showed me what bitterness, offense, hurt, unforgiveness, and yes, all of that turns into hatred in your heart towards someone. And uh and I'll tell you, I'll be very honest, I I didn't get over it in just a few weeks or a few months. It took me a little while. I would admit to God, though, I would say, "I'm angry. I'm angry. I'm hurt. I I I you know I I wish bad things on her. I mean I was I was in a bad way, you know, and I I tell you what, I thank God that he showed me the way out of that. Uh because if not, I wouldn't be sitting here today uh preaching the gospel and sharing the word with you and and I certainly wouldn't have had God restore everything to me that I lost and even and even better. So it's it's vitally important. Um I had you turn to uh we just Romans 16. Let's go to 1 Corinthians 5 just so you see there is a time to separate from people. And this is 1 Corinthians chapter 5. We'll start at verse one here. He said, "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles that one should have his father's wife. and you are puffed up and have not rather mourned that he that has done this deed might be taken away from among you. For verily abs as absent in body, but present in spirit, I have judged already as though I were present concerning him that hath done this deed. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together in my spirit with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ to deliver such in one unto Satan, for the destruction of the flesh, the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your gloring is not good. Know you not that a little leaven leavenvens the whole lump. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, even as ye are unleaven, for even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with the old leavenven, neither with the leavenven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote unto you an epistle not to keep company with fornicators, yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world. So, he's saying, "No, no, I'm not talking about the unsaved." He said, "But I wrote to you not to keep company." He said, "Or with idolattors or extortioners." He says, "If that was the case, you'd have to go out of the world." But verse 11, he says, "But now I have written unto you not to keep company if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, habitual fornicator that won't repent or covetous or an idoltor or a or a drunkard or an extortioner with such and one know not to eat." And then so he he he tells them right there, look, if you we're going to have in the church, we're going to have in families people that are going to want to stay in sin. They call themselves Christians. They call themselves a brother, a sister in the Lord. They want to stay in fornication, adultery, drunkenness, whatever, drug use. And there comes a point where, yeah, you're going to have to separate from them. I've had to put people out of the church. Um, and and and I'm sure it's not the last time I'm going to have to do it. I've had to do it several times over the years. So I wanted to make the point that love does not throw out rebuke, correction, confronting and dealing with sin, dealing with um when when someone does something wrong, you know, if your brother trespass against you, go and tell him. If he doesn't hear you, go and take someone else. I mean, there's a process of dealing with things, but just be sure that I'm not saying, "Oh, hey, you know, you you you you're not forgiving unless you're hanging out with that person and having barbecues." I mean, that's that's not what I'm talking about. Hopefully, you know what? Some of these situations and relationships could get to that point of forgiveness that relationships and fellowship can be restored, but sometimes it's not going to be the case. But you still have to forgive and you still have to deal with the hatred in your heart. Now I want everybody to go and I guess we ought to put up I want to put up well let's let's go to first John chapter 2 just quickly and after we read this I guess you can be ready with the um the definition of hatred here from the Strong's Greek dictionary. But this is what I was reading last night. And this is 1 John chapter 2. We're just going to read 9 through 11. And this this just really jumped off the page last night. I knew the Holy Spirit was stirring something in me. Uh when I read this, it says, "He that saith or the person, the Christian that saith, he is in the light. I'm walking in the light of Jesus. I'm walking in the light of the Lord. I'm walking in the light of the word. I'm I'm a Christian. He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now. He that
loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. Well, these are huge statements we're going to come back to. But remember, he that loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. Now, when it says love, we're not talking about just you have f warm fuzzy feelings for people. It's not what this is talking about. We'll define it in a second. It says, "But he that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whether he goeth, because that darkness has blinded his eyes." And this is what really, really stood out to me. And this is what the Lord told me. He said, "So many of my children, so many of my people claim to be walking in my light, in my truth, in my word. Yet in their heart, they hate a brother or a sister in the Lord or a family member or someone who's hurt them. and they don't even realize that they are walking in darkness and that their eyes are blinded and they don't even know where they're going or what they're doing. And and and and for that matter, a lot of people don't even realize that this is the root source of much of the trouble in their lives. because I read this when I did, you know, a couple of weeks ago when I did the um the open doors message of the deliverance series and um and I covered it, you know, I covered it. Okay. I mean, but we went through Matthew 18 and the story where Jesus told, you know, the Lord um forgave this servant all of his debt, but then that servant went out and wouldn't forgive another fellow servant a very small debt. And it says the Lord said he was delivered to the tormentors. And it talked about those tormentors. Man, man, there are Christians living in torment spiritually. Can't seem to get out of darkness. Can't seem to break the curses. Can't seem to get the demons to leave. Can't seem to get the sickness and the pain and the aggravations to go. Can't seem to stop the onslaught of endless problems and troubles in their life. And really this the the deep down ugly dark taproot is that you have unforgiveness and hatred toward a brother. And it's interesting because he says that darkness has blinded their eyes. That's why so many Christians I think when I say hey you know what you you're offended you're offended with that. I hear somebody start talking about somebody and and the the the voice starts shaking or the anger starts rising or the you know the frustration level starts getting I go man that you're offended you're you're you're offended. No I'm not. That's the first thing that comes out. No I'm not. I'm like you're in denial is what you're in.
Um, there's one particular person, I get the same story from their childhood every time I see them. And I'm like, of their alcoholic father and what he did to them. And I'm like, wow, yeah. Was he a jerk? Yeah. Was he an idiot? Yeah. Was he hurtful and terrible? Yeah. But, uh, you're a grown woman. That's been 50, 60 years ago. When are you going to forgive him? and get free truly forgive. Now, let's break. Let's look at this word here because again, the denial in Christians. Oh, no. I don't hate anybody. I hatred. No way. I'm just I just don't I just don't like them very much. I just dislike that person. You ever heard that? Kevin can nod back there at me at least. He doesn't have a mic tonight. But how many times have I heard Christians over the years, "Oh, no, no, no, no. I don't hate that brother when they're talking about, you know, I wish he had get his. Oh, no. No, I don't hate him. I just dislike him a lot. Okay, let's look at this definition. This definition of hatred is uh hopefully going to wake up some of you to see where you are. And I've got a story to tell you that's really heavy upon my heart. It's a sad story. And I hope the people that it's all about will be listening and watching tonight or maybe see this at a later date. But here's the strong definition of hatred in this passage that I just read in 1 John chapter 2. And it's the word misso. And here's how it's defined. It is hatred to detest, especially to persecute. Listen to this one. By extension, to love less. All right. Now, let's break this down because I looked up these words. The word detest means to dislike intensely. Do you hear me? The word detest, if you detest somebody, it means that you dislike them intensely. And then the definition says hatred to detest or to dislike intensely, especially to persecute. Now pay attention to this. You say, "I don't persecute people." Yes, you do. If you have unforgiveness, bitterness and hatred in your heart and you detest somebody, especially another brother or sister in the Lord or a family member, here let me tell you how you persecute them. The word persecute means that you inflict some kind of mistreatment upon them that causes physical or emotional pain, suffering, fear, or rejection. Everybody thinks persecution has to be physical like what you know
the Muslims do to Christians. Torture, beat them, you know, throw them in prison, uh, behead them, stone them, hang them. I mean, there the ISIS and Muslims all over the world are doing that to Christians. Blow them up, shoot them, whatever. But persecution is not just physical violence. It's not just, you know, murdering another Christian. In fact, if you read on in first John, we'll get to that verse in a minute. It says, "He that hates his brother is a murderer." So God equates this hatred in your heart the same as committing murder. But he says that here that that this so I'm I'm going to read it out. The word detest means to dislike intensely to the point that you persecute that person by inflicting some kind of mistreatment that causes physical or emotional pain, suffering, fear, or rejection. Thus, hatred is simply not loving someone who has hurt you enough to forgive them, but instead you want to make them feel some kind of pain or you want to make them feel fear or you want to make them feel rejected. It is this it is the taking of revenge by hurtful words or just ignoring them, rejection or sometimes even violence. It really is the eye for an eye attitude. Now, when you think about this, I'm I'm going to tell a little story here. There's someone I know, a family that I know, and I've met all the family members except for the father that hurt this family many, many, many years ago. I you know I mean we're talking about decades ago there was a family four children and father and mother and the father and mother end up getting a divorce. The father I think had an affair. The father ends up leaving the wife and leaving the kids. I mean two boys and two girls. Terrible terrible situation. what he did, the way he did it, um, brought great pain and great hurt into his wife, into his older children, uh, and to his youngest, all the way to the youngest. Great pain. Um, again, these are people I know. These are people I've met. And um you know he's he's pretty much the father's pretty much been out of their lives um since then. And and again we're talking about you know over 30 years. I don't even know the exact number but it's it's 30 plus years. And I mean there's been I think at different points a few encounters, a few conversations, um telephone
conversations or I don't know. I mean I again I don't know every every detail but some of those didn't go well you know but when this situation comes up when when talking and getting to know these people when this when this issue would come up you you you can hear the hurt the anger the pain the sadness you know we're talking about a lifetime lost of of this man being with his children, being able to see them grow up and see them get married and see them have kids and be with his grandchildren. This this guy, he blew it, man. He missed out on their lives, their kids' lives. Um, I mean, he he really blew it. But here's the thing and and and even over the years and you know I know one of his daughters really well and over the years he's even said and done hurtful things in those time periods to the you know just he hasn't been a good man. He wasn't a good father. He uh he wasn't a good husband. He brought a lot of wounds, a lot of pain, a lot of hurt, uh a lot of lot of I mean just you know these this this this ex-wife, this these four kids, they have every right to be angry, to be bitter, to be hurt, to be to not want to have anything to do with him. But there's one, and I'll just say she attends our church, and I've watched her deal with this and forgive this man because she knows how important it is to forgive. So, in recent months, in recent uh years, it was discovered that this man has cancer. Um multiple issues going on, but serious cancer. Uh it looked like for a while he might be getting better. Now it looks like it's getting worse. But miracle of miracles happened the other day. This man's never asked for forgiveness. He's never said he was sorry. He called his his daughter, the one that attends our church here. He called her out of the blue. I mean, he doesn't even live in the country. He called her and asked her to forgive him and apologized for all that he had done. Said he was sorry and that he hoped uh that she would forgive him. Now, I'm going to tell you something. You want to talk about a miracle, you want to talk about huge, you want to talk about big.
And what I thank God about is that she was ready because she's been dealing with this in her heart for some time. She was ready for that phone call. This is her father and she was ready for that phone call and she was ready to forgive him and to show compassion and mercy and love to him. Now, because she accepted this and because she did forgive him, she's already catching it from her mother and her siblings because they want to hold on to the anger, the hurt, the pain. They want to, in fact, you know, he's supposed to come to the states and they want to meet up with him and they want to give him a piece of their minds. And all of these these other siblings also claim to be Christians. I don't believe that, you know, a couple of them really ever been born again, and if they have, they're backsliden as they can be. But still, they all claim to be Christians. And I thought to myself, if there is not a definition of hatred, if if what they want to do to this dying man who's trying to make a little amends for all the wrong that he did and the pain that he caused. um they want to get to, you know, get with him and cuss him out and, you know, he's reached out and they'll cut him off. And I thought to myself, how on God's green earth is that Christian? How is that showing any love, any compassion, any mercy, any forgiveness? And then I, and this has all been going on in this past week, and then I read this. I wasn't trying to look this up. I read this in John. He that saith he w he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whether he goeth, because that darkness has blinded his eyes. See, they detest this man and they detest him with such intensity that they not only want to keep the unforgiveness and the bitterness and the pain and the hurt and they they want to remember it and hold on to it.
They want to persecute. They want to make this man feel even worse than he already does. Now folks, I I want to say this to you. You're not always going to get an apology in this world. It's rare you're someone's going to humble themselves and say, "I was wrong. What I did to you was wrong. I'm sorry for what I did to you." There's not a lot of people in this world that humble themselves and admit they're wrong. Not a lot. And you know, I think about what Jesus said to Peter in that story in Matthew 18. And he said, 'Lord, you know, if somebody comes to me and and they sin 70 times in a day and they turn and say, "I repent." The Lord said, "Forgive them." 70* 7. I I'm I'm just blown away. You know, recently I've had people turn on me. I had one guy turn on me, turn against me, come against me. You know, it's fine. It's fine to disagree if you want to disagree over some doctrinal or theological issue. That's fine if you want to disagree. But, you know, you get nasty, you start name calling or, you know, you join another group of people that want to just try to slander and destroy uh me and and this ministry. Well, you know, this guy, he took off and he joined this little group and you know, I was like, "All right." you know, so I just banned them and blocked them from from my stuff on social media. But, you know, it wasn't too long. I mean, it was just a matter of weeks really. I get an email from this guy and he he apologizes. He says, "You know what? I was wrong. I'm sorry. I I shouldn't have I shouldn't have done that to you. I shouldn't have gotten hooked up with these people and be attacking you." He says, "You know, will you um will you forgive me?" and and you know I'd like to be back on your social media stuff. I'd like to I'd like to follow and I want to you know and you know what immediately it's like sure man I forgive you man it's all right because it's just you just I guess I'm just shocked is how rare that is that somebody admits they're wrong anymore and says hey I'm sorry I was wrong I apologize please forgive me um folks somebody does that to you and you don't want to accept that and you don't want to um forgive them from your heart and deal with the your hatred. You still want to get revenge. You still want to make them feel pain or bitterness or rejection or you want to hurt them back because they hurt you. Um or you want to speak against them or you want to keep nursing it and rehearsing it. Um I'm telling you, you're you're walking in hatred. You're not just walking in unforgiveness. You're walking in hatred. according to the definition of the word and and listen this is Strongs but I looked it up in theers and and other Greek lexicons it's the same thing to detest someone intensely to the point that you want to persecute them you want
to get them back you want to make them feel pain you want to mistreat them back you want to make them feel uh rejected isolated um you know I mean that that's a lot of times our persecution is is our indifference toward them, a person that's hurt us. Um, but we must confront this. Some of you out there, it's it's ex-husbands, it's ex-wives, or it may even be your wife or your husband you're married to now and living with. Some of you, it's a it's a child that's hurt you and cussed you out and left. Some of you, it's a pastor or a deacon or an elder or a Sunday school teacher or an evangelist that came through a church that didn't do what you thought they ought to do and you're still hanging on to that thing and you're nursing that little you're nursing that little offense. You keep giving it bottles. You keep coddling it and you keep holding on to it and and then sooner or later, of course, it starts screaming and crying and pooping and peeing on you and then of course, boom, you're you're you're rehearsing it again and again and again. And it's amazing because when you hold on to unforgiveness and when you hold on and you and to bitterness and offense and hurt and it's and it turns into hatred, one of the things about that little baby you hold on to, it never grows up. It never changes. It just keeps screaming and crying and peeing and pooping all over you and you just keep holding on to it. And um we're going to This is what we're going to do. We're going to take a little break, but when we come back, I'm going to get into how you deal with this. There is a way. Some of you say, "Well, I've tried to deal with this, but you know, it just keeps coming back or I can't or it won't go." And I'm going to tell you why that's happening to you. And I'm going to tell you how you have to do it. And folks, Jesus said it. Unless you forgive from the heart other people's trespasses that's trespassed against you, unless you forgive from the heart, God will not forgive you. Now think about that for a minute. You are not getting to heaven with unforgiven sins. It's not happening. In fact, we may read back through Matthew 18. The story reveals a truth there that every bit of the debt that was forgiven you when you won't forgive someone else is put back on you. And that's why, listen, this is why so many Christians are not going to are not enduring until the end.
They're offended. They're full of unforgiveness. They're full of bitterness. They're full of hatred. They're full of wanting revenge. I, you know, I thought about this poor this poor man, this poor father. He, you know, he he's a Mormon. He He needs He needs some of these Christian children of his to lead him to the true Jesus, not the Mormon Jesus, but to the true Jesus of the Bible so he can be born again and be saved. But if they won't talk to him, if they want to cuss him out, if they want to give him a piece of their mind, if they want to hold on to all this offense, how they ever going to talk to this man and try to lead him to find peace with God, to find true salvation in Jesus Christ before he dies and goes to hell. And that's why I told my wife, I said, you know, the lady in our church, the the the the baby, she's the baby of the the family, she's forgiven him. And I said, you know what's happened? that forgiveness that she has forgiven him and and he brought her great pain as a child leaving them and over the years rejecting her and her making attempts and him not living up to anything. But the fact that she kept working and knew I've got to forgive. I can't hold on to this. And the fact that when he calls and says I'm sorry, please forgive me. um the and and she immediately shows forgiveness and mercy and love and compassion toward him. I told my wife, I said that right there has opened the doorway for her to share the true gospel of Jesus Christ with this man this before he passes away before he dies. If she would have held on to this bitterness and this unforgiveness and this pain and this and and this hatred and wanted revenge on him and wanted to make him feel pain because he made her feel pain, she wouldn't be able to share the gospel and this man would die, you know, deceived believing in a false Jesus, the false Mormon Jesus, the false gospel of Mormonism. At least now there's a chance that he'll listen to the one in his family who showed him mercy. We'll be back in a minute. [Music]

[Music] [Applause] [Music] Okay, we're back. You're listening to Prophecy Quake. I'm your host, Pastor Dean Odel, along with my co-host, Pastor Kevin Wilkinson. We welcome you back. Uh, tonight we are talking about hidden hatred and unforgiveness in Christians. And, uh, we've just been covering the definition of the word hatred. Um, I don't even know if I'm going to get into some of the other stuff. Just the word, you know, I was looking at the Hebrew word. It was amazing. I was looking at the Hebrew word uh for forgiveness and the one for hatred. And both words contain the same three letters. They're just two of them are changed. And it's it was very interesting. But, uh, I don't even know if I I want to get into that tonight because this is tonight's not about trying to be uh fancy or give you fancy uh, you know, teaching. This is just to try to to dig in to make you understand how important it is um to deal with unforgiveness towards someone, hurt, anger, bitterness, and yes, even hatred in our heart toward people. Um I want us to turn to Matthew. I've, you know, I've talked about this and uh alluded to it several times, but let's go back and read this again. This is Matthew chapter 18. Uh this is uh Peter here speaking with Jesus. We're going to start at verse 21. Matthew 18 21. And we'll read all the way. We're going to read to the end of the chapter because it's so vitally important. Um and verse 21. Then came Peter to him or to Jesus and said, Lord, how oftin against me and I forgive him till seven times? And Jesus said to him, I say not unto thee until seven times, but until 70 times seven. Therefore, as the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him 10,000 talents. And for as much as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold his wife and children, and all that he had, and that payment to be made. Uh the servant therefore fell down and worshiped him, saying,"Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all." Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him a hundred pence. And he laid hands on him, and he took him by the throat, saying, "Pay me that thou owest." and his fellow servant fell down at his feet and besought him, saying, "Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all." And he would not, but went and cast him into prison till he should pay the debt. Now, I've I've said this many times. Can a man that's thrown in prison pay a debt? No. There's no way. There's no way he can work. There's no way he can get money. Uh so, what you've what you've basically done is you've you've put the person in an impossible situation. They can't do anything about it. Um it's terrible.
And he says here um verse 31. So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told their lord all that was done. Then his lord, notice it says his lord there. Then his lord after that he had called him said unto him, "Oh you wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt because you desired me. Shouldest not thou have had compassion on thy fellow servant even even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth and delivered him to the tormentors till he should pay all that was due to him. Now look at listen to verse 35. So likewise shall my heavenly father do also unto you if you from your hearts forgive not everyone his brother their trespasses. Now this is serious business because there's so many of you out there. You said, "Well, I, you know, I forgiven him, but you're still, again, it's still deep in your heart. You're still angry. You're still bitter. Your blood pressure still rises when the situation comes up. You still, you know, really don't like them. You don't like, you know, there's just a lot of stuff. It's still there." Okay. Um and Jesus said if you don't forgive from your heart then your heavenly father is not going to forgive you. And in fact the servant who was forgiven by his lord of all the huge debt that he owed. It was just wiped away when he wouldn't forgive his fellow servant. The Lord came into the picture again and said now you got to pay me 1:00:021 hour, 2 secondseverything. Your debt's not paid anymore. There's one for you once saved. 1:00:061 hour, 6 secondsalways say people right there, unforgiveness, folks, is a deal breaker. 1:00:121 hour, 12 secondsUnforgiveness means all of the debt you've been forgiven. All that sin, all that terrible debt that you couldn't pay 1:00:191 hour, 19 secondsfor that Jesus paid for you on the cross, he's willing to forgive you. All this servant had to do was fall down and 1:00:271 hour, 27 secondssaid, "Lord, have patience on me and I'll pay you everything." And it said, "The Lord had compassion. when he saw humility, when he saw a willingness to 1:00:341 hour, 34 secondsdo what was right, the man falls on his face, he he you know, the Lord immediately says, "Okay, God went from wrath to 1:00:431 hour, 43 secondsmercy." And he says, "Okay, you're forgiven. 1:00:461 hour, 46 secondsYou're hold it. You don't have to do anything. You don't have to you don't have to do anything else." 1:00:541 hour, 54 secondsBut wouldn't it make sense if the Lord did that for you that you should do it for others? 1:01:021 hour, 1 minute, 2 secondsBoy, this is this is huge. And if you don't, you will not be forgiven. This is how huge this is. My wife said it today 1:01:091 hour, 1 minute, 9 secondsand I agreed with her. She said, "I think that this is the number one issue that's going to keep the most the 1:01:161 hour, 1 minute, 16 secondsbiggest number of Christians basically out of heaven." Because see, there is going to be a judgment day. There's there's a judgment, a great white throne judgment 1:01:251 hour, 1 minute, 25 secondsthat happens at the end of the millennial reign after Jesus returns and he rules and reigns for a thousand years. There's a great white throne 1:01:321 hour, 1 minute, 32 secondsjudgment. And at that great white throne judgment, that's only the the wicked dead. The unsaved dead are brought out of hell and they stand before God. The 1:01:401 hour, 1 minute, 40 secondsbooks are open and they're judged according to their works. But there's a judgment before that when Jesus returns, a judgment of the Christians. 1:01:491 hour, 1 minute, 49 secondsAnd a lot of people think, you know, the Baptists have always taught and the Calvinists have always taught, oh, the judgment of Christians, well, we'll all 1:01:561 hour, 1 minute, 56 secondsstill be saved. We may lose some rewards, but we're all making it into heaven. 1:02:011 hour, 2 minutes, 1 secondFolks, that's not the picture you get when you read through the parables of Jesus, the truths he was talking about. 1:02:071 hour, 2 minutes, 7 secondsYou read through the parables of the 10 virgins or the parable of the talents or the parable of the marriage supper, the 1:02:161 hour, 2 minutes, 16 secondswedding supper, and you see there's a separation that happens. And I I've I've taught on that many times, but there's 1:02:241 hour, 2 minutes, 24 secondsgoing to be a judgment seat. The judgment seat of Christ, there are going to be Christians. Now, remember, if the great white throne judgment at the end of the millennial reign is just the 1:02:331 hour, 2 minutes, 33 secondswicked dead, they're brought up out of hell. Death and hell give up. the sea gives up the dead in it. They stand before God and they're judged and their 1:02:411 hour, 2 minutes, 41 secondsnames are not found written in the book of life. Of course not. That's why they're in hell. And he says, you know, they're but they're going to be judged according to their works. The severity 1:02:491 hour, 2 minutes, 49 secondsof their eternal judgment is going to be meed out at that point. 1:02:541 hour, 2 minutes, 54 secondsBut you have these pictures in the New Testament uh where like Matthew 25 where you've got three servants standing 1:03:021 hour, 3 minutes, 2 secondsthere. Two hear the words, "Enter into the joy of the thy lord." one says, "You wicked and sorrowful servant, you knew what you should have done. You didn't do it. Cast him into outer darkness." There should be weeping and nashing of teeth. 1:03:131 hour, 3 minutes, 13 secondsThere's going to be the separation judgment. The judgment seat of Christ is where Christians will be judged. And yes, for some it will be a matter of 1:03:211 hour, 3 minutes, 21 secondsreward or not, less reward. But for others, it's going to be a matter of eternal life or not in heaven. And some 1:03:291 hour, 3 minutes, 29 secondsare going to be cast into the outer darkness. Some are going to be taken and thrown into the fire because they have backsliden because they either went back 1:03:381 hour, 3 minutes, 38 secondsand became practi practitioners and habitual practitioners of sin and iniquities that are unto death or they 1:03:451 hour, 3 minutes, 45 secondschose not to forgive and to have hatred in their heart toward people. 1:03:511 hour, 3 minutes, 51 secondsAnd the Bible says and in fact we're going to let's let's just turn there. 1:03:541 hour, 3 minutes, 54 secondsLet's go to uh back to first John and I believe it's in chapter 3. Let me go ahead and turn there because I want everybody to see this. 1:04:151 hour, 4 minutes, 15 secondsYeah. Chapter 3. All right. 1 John chapter 3 and we're going to go down to verse 11. 1:04:271 hour, 4 minutes, 27 secondsAnd let's just read this here. 1:04:301 hour, 4 minutes, 30 secondsHe says, 'For this is the message that you heard from the beginning that we should love one another. And I'm just going to I'm just going to throw this in 1:04:371 hour, 4 minutes, 37 secondshere, folks. Listen to me. If if hatred is the equivalent of not forgiving, then love would be the equivalent of forgiving. 1:04:481 hour, 4 minutes, 48 secondsOkay? God demonstrates his love toward us in that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Meaning, God made a way to pay for our sins so we could have 1:04:561 hour, 4 minutes, 56 secondsforgiveness. God made a way for forgiveness. And then all we have to do, we don't have to work or earn it. We come to him and we say, "Lord, forgive 1:05:041 hour, 5 minutes, 4 secondsme for being, you know, a rebel, a sinner, wicked." And he says, and you say, "I believe in Jesus. I believe Jesus died for my sin, rose from the 1:05:131 hour, 5 minutes, 13 secondsdead. Forgive me." Boom. God says, "Okay, forgiveness." So God demonstrates his love by forgiving us, by making the 1:05:221 hour, 5 minutes, 22 secondsway of forgiveness through the blood of Jesus. and by forgiving us when we ask and repent in in sincerity and in truth. 1:05:301 hour, 5 minutes, 30 secondsSo we show our love to our brothers and sisters who have hurt us, wronged us, trespassed against us. Uh you know we 1:05:391 hour, 5 minutes, 39 secondsthis is how we show love that again saying I love somebody talk is cheap. 1:05:451 hour, 5 minutes, 45 secondsUm for this is the message that we have heard from the beginning that we should love one another. This is 1 John 3:11 1:05:531 hour, 5 minutes, 53 seconds12. Not as Cain who was of that wicked one and slew his brother. And wherefore 1:06:001 hour, 6 minuteswhy did he uh slew he he him? Or why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil and his brothers were righteous. 1:06:081 hour, 6 minutes, 8 secondsMarvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life because we love the 1:06:161 hour, 6 minutes, 16 secondsbrethren. Boy, let boy hear that tonight. 1:06:211 hour, 6 minutes, 21 secondsWe have passed from death. But he's talking we see this is what people miss when when the Apostle John uses the term 1:06:291 hour, 6 minutes, 29 secondshere we we know we Christians. Me and you. If I said we in this room right now, it's me and Kevin. I'm saying me 1:06:371 hour, 6 minutes, 37 secondsand you, brother. Christians. I'm a Christian. You're a Christian. I'm saying we. He says if we know we have 1:06:441 hour, 6 minutes, 44 secondspassed from death unto life because we love the brethren. We have forgiven our brothers. 1:06:521 hour, 6 minutes, 52 secondsOh boy. He that loveth not his brother abideth or lives dwells in death. 1:07:001 hour, 7 minutesSpiritual death. 1:07:021 hour, 7 minutes, 2 secondsSo if you're not willing to forgive, if you're not willing to let go of the hurts and the bitterness and the pain, and you may be some somebody may have 1:07:091 hour, 7 minutes, 9 secondsdone you horribly wrong. They may have abused you. They may have beaten you. 1:07:141 hour, 7 minutes, 14 secondsThey may have lied about you. They may have stolen from you. They may have done all kind of horrible things to you. They may have sexually abused you. They may 1:07:211 hour, 7 minutes, 21 secondshave they may have done all kind of horrible things. And he's saying though you must forgive them from your heart. 1:07:301 hour, 7 minutes, 30 secondsHe says, "Whosoever look at verse 15. 1:07:331 hour, 7 minutes, 33 secondsWhosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and you know that no murderer hath 1:07:421 hour, 7 minutes, 42 secondseternal life abiding in him." This is a salvation issue. 1:07:471 hour, 7 minutes, 47 secondsunforgiveness, hatred, bitterness, a desire to hurt back, to hurt someone 1:07:541 hour, 7 minutes, 54 secondswho's hurt you. A desire to get them back reveals that you have hatred, bitterness, and unforgiveness in your 1:08:031 hour, 8 minutes, 3 secondsheart. You don't love them when you want revenge. You hear me? 1:08:111 hour, 8 minutes, 11 secondsYou don't love them when you want to hurt them back. You haven't forgiven them when you want to give them a piece of your mind or cuss them out or hurt them in some way because they hurt you. 1:08:231 hour, 8 minutes, 23 secondsYou are not walking in love. You are walking in darkness. You are walking in death. You are hating them. You detest them and you are persecuting them. 1:08:351 hour, 8 minutes, 35 secondsWell, see, there's a lot of people get this way. I mean, folks, you wouldn't believe somebody can start disagreeing with me. It's just like with Cain and 1:08:431 hour, 8 minutes, 43 secondsAbel. Well, Cain got mad because Abel did what was right, what God expected, and God accepted it. Cain had an idea he 1:08:521 hour, 8 minutes, 52 secondswas going to do what he wanted to do and off of the fruits of the ground. But Cain gets mad at Abel for doing the right thing. 1:08:591 hour, 8 minutes, 59 secondsAnd God even has to rebuke him. He's like, "Cain, why are you getting angry? What are you doing? 1:09:041 hour, 9 minutes, 4 secondsDon't you know if you do the right thing, you'll be accepted to? You'll be blessed." But Cain gets angry, jealous, 1:09:111 hour, 9 minutes, 11 secondswhatever. But he lets this anger build and this offense and this, you know, 1:09:181 hour, 9 minutes, 18 secondshatred. Hatred and unforgiveness can come in from many different angles. Hurt or you feel your pride got hurt or 1:09:261 hour, 9 minutes, 26 secondsyou're jealous or you're envious. It could come from so many different directions. But folks, he says here 1:09:341 hour, 9 minutes, 34 secondsvery plainly, whosoever hates his brother, detests him, doesn't like him, intensely doesn't like him to the point of persecuting him, mistreating him. 1:09:431 hour, 9 minutes, 43 secondsNow, people disagree with me sometimes. 1:09:451 hour, 9 minutes, 45 secondsInstead of just saying, you know what, we disagree. I mean, they start calling me all kind of names. I mean, get nasty, mean. What What do you got to do that 1:09:531 hour, 9 minutes, 53 secondsfor? Okay, so you disagree with me on something. Why you got to get nasty about it? 1:10:031 hour, 10 minutes, 3 secondsWell, whosoever hates his brother is a murderer. 1:10:081 hour, 10 minutes, 8 secondsAnd you know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1:10:141 hour, 10 minutes, 14 secondsSo, do you have intense dislike for someone? Do you have a desire that they get what's coming to them because of what they did to you? 1:10:261 hour, 10 minutes, 26 secondsDo you want the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth? Here are the questions. 1:10:341 hour, 10 minutes, 34 secondsNow, let's let's look at this. The Christian knows I'm and now I'm I'm going to address. Here's how we deal with this. All right. 1:10:441 hour, 10 minutes, 44 secondsAre we having a problem? No, we have a question. Okay. Um, it was posted on Facebook. 1:10:511 hour, 10 minutes, 51 secondsAll right. says, "Can you truly forgive someone but still be hurt and angry but sin not?" I asked this because Ephesians 1:11:001 hour, 11 minutes4 said, "Be angry and do not sin, do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil." Can you 1:11:091 hour, 11 minutes, 9 secondsclarify? Yes. Yes. Of course. I mean, of course, you know, I have a situation in my own family that I'm not the person is 1:11:191 hour, 11 minutes, 19 secondsstill acting like a snot and uh and and still doing what they were doing before 1:11:261 hour, 11 minutes, 26 secondswhen I had unforgiveness toward them. I don't like what they're doing. I'm not happy about it. Um, but I don't have the 1:11:341 hour, 11 minutes, 34 secondssame um I don't have the same intensity and 1:11:401 hour, 11 minutes, 40 secondsanger and frustration and desire to lash out back at them. I think that's a good indicator. You can still be 1:11:481 hour, 11 minutes, 48 secondsdisappointed. You can still be hurt. You can still be um, you know, wish things were different because you can't control 1:11:561 hour, 11 minutes, 56 secondsother people's actions. But if you if you know you've dealt with the desire to 1:12:031 hour, 12 minutes, 3 secondslash back, see, I I could feel myself with this this person when I finally admitted that I had unforgiveness toward them. I could feel myself wanting to 1:12:111 hour, 12 minutes, 11 secondslash out, wanting to, you know, hit back and uh, you know, make it sting uh where 1:12:191 hour, 12 minutes, 19 secondsI hit back. And, you know, there's plenty of things I could have said and done to make it really, really sting. 1:12:251 hour, 12 minutes, 25 secondsBut then I thought, you know, that's not gonna that's not going to fix the problem. It's going to make it worse. So 1:12:331 hour, 12 minutes, 33 secondsagain, yeah, I think you can be angry and sin not. I do agree with that. You can't I believe you can uh still have 1:12:421 hour, 12 minutes, 42 secondsdisappointment and hurt and not be walking in hatred and desire for, you know, them to be punished or to have 1:12:511 hour, 12 minutes, 51 secondsjustice in some way. Um, and you can still be open to, you know, 1:12:581 hour, 12 minutes, 58 secondsum, and and you can always tell because if when you think about, okay, what if that person came to my house right now? 1:13:051 hour, 13 minutes, 5 secondsWhat if that person called me on the phone right now? Um, measure how you would feel about that at this at the moment. Let let's say, okay, 1:13:131 hour, 13 minutes, 13 secondsif that person uh dropped by your house or phone call or a text or some, you know, contacted you in some way and say, "Hey, look, I'm you know what? I'm sorry. I apologize. 1:13:231 hour, 13 minutes, 23 secondsUm, if you find yourself not being able to just instantly forgive them and say, "It's okay. It's all right. You know what? I've already 1:13:311 hour, 13 minutes, 31 secondsdealt with this and I appreciate you apologizing and let's let's uh forget the past and let's move forward." If 1:13:391 hour, 13 minutes, 39 secondsyou're ready to do that, then you should be okay, you know. Um, if you're not, then maybe you need to deal with this 1:13:471 hour, 13 minutes, 47 secondsarea. So, I hope that answered the question out there. Um, any other questions before we move forward? Okay. 1:13:541 hour, 13 minutes, 54 secondsNow, and and and that's here and that's where we're getting to here. Here's the brass tax of this. And this is this is why I think so many Christians have a 1:14:021 hour, 14 minutes, 2 secondshard time. They'll say, "Well, I've tried to forgive a person or I've tried to deal with this and I just can't." 1:14:111 hour, 14 minutes, 11 secondsUm, well, I I told my wife today, I said, "Really?" that I believe that most Christians can't seem to overcome this. 1:14:211 hour, 14 minutes, 21 secondsNot because, you know, the other person may still be hurtful or mean or still acting the same way. Um, but it's 1:14:301 hour, 14 minutes, 30 secondsbecause we don't admit that having this unforgiveness 1:14:381 hour, 14 minutes, 38 secondsand bitterness and desire for to be vindicated. 1:14:441 hour, 14 minutes, 44 secondsum we don't have we don't recognize it as sin in our lives that we are committing a sin 1:14:511 hour, 14 minutes, 51 secondsbecause the focus is so on the other person who's hurt us and done us wrong and this is where we're messing up. See, 1:15:001 hour, 15 minuteswhen God dealt with me with the person in my family that I have unforgiveness story, they haven't changed one iota of 1:15:071 hour, 15 minutes, 7 secondstheir bad behavior or how they treat me or or this or they have not apologized. 1:15:131 hour, 15 minutes, 13 secondsThey have not tried to rectify this situation in any way whatsoever. In fact, they've even gotten, I believe, a little worse. Okay. So, what changed? 1:15:251 hour, 15 minutes, 25 secondsWhat what started the process for me to be able to forgive them? Well, first of all, I was in denial about it like most of you have been at one point or 1:15:331 hour, 15 minutes, 33 secondsanother, and you still may be, but I was in denial. Somebody would have said, "You have unforgiveness toward her," I would have said, "No, I don't. I just 1:15:411 hour, 15 minutes, 41 secondsI'm angry. I'm hurt. I'm frustrated." That's what I would have said. So, be careful that that's not a copout to deal with the problem because it was for me. 1:15:511 hour, 15 minutes, 51 secondsUh, but I went to hear good brother John Kilpatrick, the from the Brownsville Revival. The pastor had been there at Brownsville Assembly. He came here to 1:16:001 hour, 16 minutesAuburn to do a service and I went to that service and God changed his message and he dealt with this issue of unforgiveness and the Lord really 1:16:071 hour, 16 minutes, 7 secondsconvicted me and showed me that I did have unforgiveness and uh but the first step was first admitting 1:16:171 hour, 16 minutes, 17 secondsthat I had unforgiveness, bitterness, a desire for to be 1:16:231 hour, 16 minutes, 23 secondsvindicated, justified for, you know, uh some some get back. And um 1:16:321 hour, 16 minutes, 32 secondsso that that was the first step. I I had to admit it. The second one was I had to 1:16:381 hour, 16 minutes, 38 secondsconfess that it was sin in my life to have this attitude toward her, to have 1:16:461 hour, 16 minutes, 46 secondsthis unforgiveness and this desire um to to be holding on to this hurt and 1:16:541 hour, 16 minutes, 54 secondsthis pain and this frustration and this anger to the point that that it was tormenting me and um 1:17:031 hour, 17 minutes, 3 secondsinterfering with my prayer life and my Bible study and my other relationships, I just had to say, "Okay, God, it's 1:17:121 hour, 17 minutes, 12 secondsunforgiveness and hatred and bitterness in you. Even I don't care if it's all 1:17:181 hour, 17 minutes, 18 secondsthe other person's fault that everything they did, it was all them, it's still sin." And so the first thing 1:17:281 hour, 17 minutes, 28 secondsI did was I said, "God, please forgive me for the sin of unforgiveness, 1:17:361 hour, 17 minutes, 36 secondsbitterness, hatred in my heart toward this person that hurt me. Forgive me for 1:17:451 hour, 17 minutes, 45 secondsholding on to this, for nursing this, for letting it eat away at me, for 1:17:541 hour, 17 minutes, 54 secondsthinking about how I should say this or that or do this or do that or how I had 1:18:001 hour, 18 minutesa right to lash out or sting or hurt back or hit back. 1:18:091 hour, 18 minutes, 9 secondsAnd um once I confessed it was sin and asked God to forgive me, that was a that was to for me that was huge. When I 1:18:181 hour, 18 minutes, 18 secondssaid, "Jesus, please wash this sin of unforgiveness, anger, hatred, hurt, these sins out of 1:18:281 hour, 18 minutes, 28 secondsmy life toward this that I've had toward this person." Man, that was the beginning. And then I said the word. So I'm giving you three. 1:18:361 hour, 18 minutes, 36 secondsFirst thing, admit it. Number one, admit it. I have unforgiveness. 1:18:411 hour, 18 minutes, 41 secondsNumber two, it is sin in my life and I need to ask God to forgive me for the sin 1:18:481 hour, 18 minutes, 48 secondsand for continuing to nurse it and rehearse it. I mean, I hope everybody gets that one. 1:18:551 hour, 18 minutes, 55 secondsNursing it and rehearsing it over and over and over again. 1:19:031 hour, 19 minutes, 3 secondsNumber three, what I say, I said, first admit it that you have it. Number two, ask God to forgive you for it. And then 1:19:111 hour, 19 minutes, 11 secondsyou need to say, number three, you need to say out of your mouth out loud after you've done one and two, say out of your 1:19:181 hour, 19 minutes, 18 secondsmouth, out loud, say, "Father, I forgive them. I release them." 1:19:291 hour, 19 minutes, 29 secondsYou say, "Well, well, I don't feel it, pastor." It's not about feelings. 1:19:321 hour, 19 minutes, 32 secondsDoesn't matter whether you feel it or not. 1:19:351 hour, 19 minutes, 35 secondsWhen you start acting upon the word of God, then the changes come. Faith first, then the mountain moves. 1:19:451 hour, 19 minutes, 45 secondsFaith and then speak to the mountain and then it moves. 1:19:491 hour, 19 minutes, 49 secondsAnd then after that, I'm going to tell you, you should begin to sense a change. 1:19:521 hour, 19 minutes, 52 secondsAnd then what do you do? Then you begin to pray for that person and you bless those who curse you and you do good to them. 1:20:041 hour, 20 minutes, 4 secondsYou see, you you you begin to put actions in there that are opposite to the way you've been feeling, 1:20:141 hour, 20 minutes, 14 secondsyou know, and and this has helped me even in this in the in the past couple of weeks 1:20:201 hour, 20 minutes, 20 secondsuh deal with a situation. For instance, um there was a a church member got into it with a with someone that doesn't even 1:20:291 hour, 20 minutes, 29 secondsgo to church, but they got into it over something, one of my sermons or one of the controversial issues that I cover. And um they got into it. I 1:20:371 hour, 20 minutes, 37 secondsmean, they got into, you know, a heated debate, but it was public cuz it was on Facebook for a little while. And this 1:20:451 hour, 20 minutes, 45 secondsperson who's never met me, didn't know me, uh said some pretty nasty things about me. called me some some pretty 1:20:541 hour, 20 minutes, 54 secondsnasty name. And of course, I'm not in the conversation, but I can see it. I saw it. And I thought, well, I'm not even entering into this conversation. 1:21:011 hour, 21 minutes, 1 secondThis is fun to watch. You know, this is all right. And um now, now before, see, I would have probably gotten a little 1:21:091 hour, 21 minutes, 9 secondsheated under the collar and wanted to type out a page response to this situation, but I'm like, "No, I'm going 1:21:161 hour, 21 minutes, 16 secondsto let I'm going to let my my church member deal with this problem." Um, but what was beautiful about that 1:21:241 hour, 21 minutes, 24 secondsand and these were two Christians again, my church member and another guy. But what was beautiful about it is that 1:21:321 hour, 21 minutes, 32 secondsum when it went too far, when this when this fellow went too far and said some things that were not true and said some 1:21:411 hour, 21 minutes, 41 secondsmean things that really had nothing to do with the conversation, it just an emo as as he said later, an emotional response. 1:21:491 hour, 21 minutes, 49 secondsUm, but when when my church member confronted him, say, "Hey, hey, hey, now you're you're getting off the rails here. 1:21:571 hour, 21 minutes, 57 secondsThis is this is going a little bit too far." Here's here's what's beautiful is because God's been dealing with me about 1:22:051 hour, 22 minutes, 5 secondsthis and I've been working through some of these with some of these people cuz I have some difficult people in my in my life at times. And because I've been 1:22:131 hour, 22 minutes, 13 secondsdealing with these things, um it it was beautiful because the guy apologized to 1:22:201 hour, 22 minutes, 20 secondsmy church member, then took down all of his comments, and then it's so funny because 1:22:291 hour, 22 minutes, 29 secondsum I can't get into the details because I give away too much, but um there was an 1:22:371 hour, 22 minutes, 37 secondsopportunity where I was going to have to be around that person for the first time 1:22:441 hour, 22 minutes, 44 secondsthis past weekend. And I want to say I really appreciated the fact that once again I had somebody come up to me and 1:22:521 hour, 22 minutes, 52 secondssay, "Look, did you see what happened on Facebook?" And I said, "Yeah, I did." 1:23:011 hour, 23 minutes, 1 secondAnd the person goes, "Look, I'm sorry. I apologize. It was an emotional response. 1:23:051 hour, 23 minutes, 5 secondsI went too far. I don't know you. I shouldn't have said any of those things." And you know what? I was ready to go, hey, it's fine. It's no no big 1:23:141 hour, 23 minutes, 14 secondsdeal. All's forgiven. It's all good. You know, and then what' I do? We we 1:23:221 hour, 23 minutes, 22 secondsthere was just a situation that they were involved in where we had an opportunity to bless them with something that they needed. And so we bless them 1:23:291 hour, 23 minutes, 29 secondswith what they needed. And um and I just thought, you know, this is the way this is supposed to work. 1:23:381 hour, 23 minutes, 38 secondsYou know, I could have real easy got got my, you know, my panties in the wad and got my feelings hurt and got, you know, us men, we don't really get, you know, 1:23:451 hour, 23 minutes, 45 secondsour feelings hurt, mopey. We get mad and respond out of, you know, anger and hit back and sting back. And I'm, you know, 1:23:531 hour, 23 minutes, 53 secondsI still do some of that. I'm trying to get better. Hopefully, we can all get better at this. But, uh, I don't want to let anything 1:24:011 hour, 24 minutes, 1 secondbecome linger and fester and become, you know, uh, an infected wound. You That's 1:24:091 hour, 24 minutes, 9 secondsthe problem with wounds. We're going to get wounds. I mean, you can be you, you know, Kevin and I, we've worked together in construction jobs. And I mean, I 1:24:181 hour, 24 minutes, 18 secondsdon't care how how careful you try to be, you know, it's like me. I've dropped batteries out of hammers on his head. I mean, the battery's out of nail guns on 1:24:271 hour, 24 minutes, 27 secondshis I've stepped on, you know, three and 4 inch nails up into my heel and stuff. 1:24:321 hour, 24 minutes, 32 secondsWe've had some crazy stuff happen and you're going to get injured, but you tend to it. You tend to it properly and 1:24:411 hour, 24 minutes, 41 secondsit heals properly and it doesn't get infected and uh and much worse. So, 1:24:491 hour, 24 minutes, 49 secondsI hope tonight that this is helping somebody out there. Um, 1:24:561 hour, 24 minutes, 56 secondslike I said, I know people that are just they've been hurt in so many churches by so many different pastors and pastors 1:25:041 hour, 25 minutes, 4 secondswives and leaders and things. And there's been so many misunderstandings and so many issues that, you know, there are people that don't want to go to 1:25:111 hour, 25 minutes, 11 secondschurch because they're just they they they they're just angry at the at the name at the office pastor or, you know, 1:25:191 hour, 25 minutes, 19 secondspastor's wife or uh church. Um, and I understand that. Look, there there was a season I after my divorce and when I 1:25:271 hour, 25 minutes, 27 secondswent through all that that I didn't just lose uh a church and a ministry and uh friends and my home and everything that 1:25:351 hour, 25 minutes, 35 secondsI had known, but I remember Christians turned against me and other pastors in town turned against me and I got very 1:25:431 hour, 25 minutes, 43 secondsvery very hurt by church people and church people that I thought were my friends and that I thought were my brothers and sisters and would be there 1:25:511 hour, 25 minutes, 51 secondsfor me in my time of need. And none of them were, not a one, not even my best friend at the time, he took the side of the other 1:26:001 hour, 26 minutesside. And you want to talk about tough, that was tough. And and I got so hurt with church folks, Christians, pastors. 1:26:111 hour, 26 minutes, 11 secondsNow, here I am, a a bornagain, spiritfilled, you know, prophet, teacher, pastor, 1:26:181 hour, 26 minutes, 18 secondschurch planter, been pastoring at that particular church for seven years. 1:26:231 hour, 26 minutes, 23 secondsAnd after that there were there was a season I did not go to church for one entire year. 1:26:301 hour, 26 minutes, 30 secondsI how do how does a how does a pastor and a minister a five-fold minister called of God get to the point he's so 1:26:391 hour, 26 minutes, 39 secondshurt and angry and disappointed and uh bitter and full of unforgiveness 1:26:471 hour, 26 minutes, 47 secondsum that you don't go to church for a year. I mean, and I even had, and I'll say this, I had one pastor that showed 1:26:531 hour, 26 minutes, 53 secondsme some compassion and love, and I will never forget him. But I even lumped him in with the other ones and said, you 1:27:021 hour, 27 minutes, 2 secondsknow, I went to his church for a while, and then I just finally said, I'm not going to any church, but it wasn't his fault. So you you got to be careful because once you start, you know, you 1:27:101 hour, 27 minutes, 10 secondsyou once you're start getting bitter against a, you know, a group like a church or group of pastors or whatever, 1:27:171 hour, 27 minutes, 17 secondsyou find yourself um lumping everybody into that if they're they call themselves pastor. We got another 1:27:241 hour, 27 minutes, 24 secondsquestion. We do. We have actually two questions. All right. Go ahead. 1:27:311 hour, 27 minutes, 31 secondsUh first question is what if you've forgiven someone you do not desire harm or retribution in any capacity but feel it is unsafe to be around that person 1:27:391 hour, 27 minutes, 39 secondsbecause they haven't changed their harmful behaviors. Is it wrong to keep them keep them at a distance? Is that a 1:27:461 hour, 27 minutes, 46 secondsform of unforgiveness? And is it okay to have boundaries when it comes to those people? 1:27:521 hour, 27 minutes, 52 secondsAnd then second question are there demonic elements that make it harder in forgiving someone? Can you how can you 1:27:591 hour, 27 minutes, 59 secondsdiscern if it's flesh or demonic on the first question? Absolutely. I uh 1:28:071 hour, 28 minutes, 7 secondsthere are some people and that's why I don't know if the person if you were um here in the beginning of the program because I did address that in the 1:28:151 hour, 28 minutes, 15 secondsbeginning of the program that there are times there are reasons there are appropriate reasons why you should 1:28:231 hour, 28 minutes, 23 secondsseparate from certain people if they're if they're going to keep pushing false doctrine or they're going to be keep sowing division and strife. If they're 1:28:311 hour, 28 minutes, 31 secondsYeah. if their behavior is negative and harmful and even dangerous um yeah you're supposed to separate from them. 1:28:391 hour, 28 minutes, 39 secondsSo yeah again forgiveness is not um I guess what you fellowship is not 1:28:471 hour, 28 minutes, 47 secondsa necessity in every situation to show that there's forgiveness or love. Um two there's there's just a big point that 1:28:561 hour, 28 minutes, 56 secondsthere are people out there who need to apologize. I mean there's another situation again in our church but with 1:29:041 hour, 29 minutes, 4 secondsextended family members of church members out there. Um there's one situation where if um a particular 1:29:131 hour, 29 minutes, 13 secondssituation if the if the the individuals involved who have done the the harm, the 1:29:201 hour, 29 minutes, 20 secondsnegativity, the gossip, the slander, the um the the different things, the manipulation. if they would just 1:29:301 hour, 29 minutes, 30 secondsapologize and and acknowledge that this behavior has been ongoing and problematic for 1:29:361 hour, 29 minutes, 36 secondssome time and if they would just admit that there could be a restoration of the 1:29:431 hour, 29 minutes, 43 secondsrelationship because I know that our church members they have a desire to have a restoration of that relationship but the the people over here who again 1:29:521 hour, 29 minutes, 52 secondswho are Christians won't acknowledge what they they've been doing won't acknowledge their bad behavior, won't it won't apologize, won't repent, want to 1:30:011 hour, 30 minutes, 1 secondjust act like, you know, brush it under the rug and act like it never happened, and they just keep doing it. And so they've put their foot down and I, you know, it's a difficult situation, but 1:30:101 hour, 30 minutes, 10 secondsour our church members have put their foot down and said, you know, we're not having any fellowship with them until they get the point that they need to 1:30:201 hour, 30 minutes, 20 secondsstop this behavior, this bad behavior, hurtful, manipulative, divisive behavior, and repent. And and again, if 1:30:281 hour, 30 minutes, 28 secondsthey if if the other parties would simply say, "Hey, we we're wrong. 1:30:331 hour, 30 minutes, 33 secondsForgive us. we we are wrong. Um we see where you're coming from. We're going to work on stopping this behavior. Um years 1:30:421 hour, 30 minutes, 42 secondsand years ago, I had to I had to separate from people in there were people in my family who had such anger issues and I'm talking about anger 1:30:501 hour, 30 minutes, 50 secondsissues that would turn violent. And you know, it was the grace of God several times that when uh several, you know, 1:30:581 hour, 30 minutes, 58 secondswhen people would try to get violent with me that I didn't, you know, revert to old and and uh and return fire. I 1:31:091 hour, 31 minutes, 9 secondsmean, I'm telling you, it's just the grace of God because I mean, I've been punched and didn't return a punch. But I would I 1:31:171 hour, 31 minutes, 17 secondsafter after the one eruption of violence or the threat of violence from a person 1:31:241 hour, 31 minutes, 24 secondsthat had you know again a Christian uh having some serious issues but at the time I had little children 1:31:331 hour, 31 minutes, 33 secondsand they pulled this stunt and you know with my kids in the room and after I told them I said look you know we're not going to do this anymore. 1:31:431 hour, 31 minutes, 43 secondsI said, 'I can't be around you because, you know, you might explode and want to, you know, get me in a fist fight. I'm 1:31:511 hour, 31 minutes, 51 secondsnot worried about me. I can handle myself. I said, but but my little 2-year-old here, my my daughter gets hurt and we going to have a bigger 1:31:581 hour, 31 minutes, 58 secondsproblem. So, so I separated from that person, not because of unforgiveness or bitterness, but because um I needed to 1:32:071 hour, 32 minutes, 7 secondsmake a point that their behavior needed to change. 1:32:111 hour, 32 minutes, 11 secondsand um and and that separation and that taking a stand 1:32:181 hour, 32 minutes, 18 secondsdid cause them to deal with their issue and it never happened again. And there was a later on after about six months there was a restoration of that 1:32:271 hour, 32 minutes, 27 secondsrelationship. But um sometimes you have to take a stand and it's not wrong to take a stand and say look I can't I can't be around you whether it's verbal 1:32:351 hour, 32 minutes, 35 secondsor physical or or you know maybe they're abusing drugs and you just like I'm not I'm not putting my family and myself in 1:32:431 hour, 32 minutes, 43 secondsharm's way to be around you anymore. I love you. I've forgiven you but you're going to have to deal with this problem. 1:32:501 hour, 32 minutes, 50 secondsAnd that's what you know I read it in 1 Corinthians 5 where Paul talks about you know in church of Corinth he was talking about people Christians who wouldn't get 1:32:581 hour, 32 minutes, 58 secondsout of fornication or drunkenness or adultery or idolatry. Like I said there comes a point where you have to show them we're going to separate you from 1:33:061 hour, 33 minutes, 6 secondswe're going to separate from we're not going to fellowship with you. You can't come to church. We're putting you out of the church. We won't even no one's even allowed to eat with you. That's not 1:33:141 hour, 33 minutes, 14 secondsbeing mean. That's not showing a lack of love or forgiveness. It is to get them to deal with their problem, the bad behavior, and hopefully that they'll 1:33:211 hour, 33 minutes, 21 secondsrepent so they won't be lost and go, you know, end up in hell or destroyed. So, 1:33:271 hour, 33 minutes, 27 secondsuh, to answer that question, yes. Again, separating, not having fellowship with certain people, it's a good thing at 1:33:361 hour, 33 minutes, 36 secondstimes to make them confront there is a problem that they need to deal with. 1:33:401 hour, 33 minutes, 40 secondsThey need to apologize. They need to repent. They need to correct the bad behavior and then there can be a restoration. Um, I tell people all the time, I mean, I know this is a, uh, an 1:33:491 hour, 33 minutes, 49 secondsextreme example, but, you know, uh, a woman may be raped by somebody and, you 1:33:561 hour, 33 minutes, 56 secondsknow, eventually after that kind of trauma and hurt and pain, um, you know, she is still required by God, if she's a 1:34:051 hour, 34 minutes, 5 secondsChristian, she's required to forgive the person that hurt her and did such a terrible thing. Is she required to hang 1:34:121 hour, 34 minutes, 12 secondsout with that person or to be in the same room with them or fellowship with them or be friends with them? No, absolutely not. Um the other thing the 1:34:211 hour, 34 minutes, 21 secondsother question um about is it demonic, you know, when it has these things and or is it the flesh? And the answer is yes. 1:34:301 hour, 34 minutes, 30 secondsIt's both. It's always both. Demons and the flesh are uh they're partners in crime, man. They work together against 1:34:401 hour, 34 minutes, 40 secondsyou all the time. Um you you must recognize that. Bind them in Jesus' name. Resist them in Jesus name. I many 1:34:471 hour, 34 minutes, 47 secondstimes I bind spirits of unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred, division, strife. I bind those demons and people I know that 1:34:551 hour, 34 minutes, 55 secondshave those that want to the demons want to rise up and make matters worse. And particularly in family situations, extended family situations, man, 1:35:041 hour, 35 minutes, 4 secondsespecially when it gets around time where you're going to have holidays or birthdays, oh Lord, you better bind some demons up. You better bind spirits of 1:35:141 hour, 35 minutes, 14 secondsstrife and division and uh in Jesus' name, bind them up and hinder them from operating. But uh know this that that 1:35:211 hour, 35 minutes, 21 secondsanything that a demon can do, the flesh can do better. So we all, you know, we bind the demons and 1:35:291 hour, 35 minutes, 29 secondswe bring the flesh under control. That's what we do. Huh? How? 1:35:381 hour, 35 minutes, 38 secondsWell, it is a fruit of the spirit. That means you do something. I mean, bringing the flesh under control. Now, I I'll say this. It's kind of the old story I've 1:35:461 hour, 35 minutes, 46 secondstold many times. You know, two dogs that are going to fight. And uh I know it's a terrible illustration. Michael Vic might 1:35:531 hour, 35 minutes, 53 secondslove it. But you know, you two dogs, one on each side, they're going to fight in three weeks. You feed one, you know, 1:36:011 hour, 36 minutes, 1 secondt-bone steaks for three weeks, and the other one you don't feed, who's going to win the fight? And so, you know, the flesh is going to be strong if you're 1:36:081 hour, 36 minutes, 8 secondsnot, you know, if you if you're not spending time in prayer, you're not spending time reading and studying and meditating the word of God. If you're 1:36:161 hour, 36 minutes, 16 secondsnot spending time in worship, uh if you don't fast uh from time to time and seek God through fasting and prayer, you're 1:36:241 hour, 36 minutes, 24 secondsnot going to be your flesh is going to be stronger than your spirit man. So, if you find yourself weak, then uh you're 1:36:331 hour, 36 minutes, 33 secondsnot going to really control the flesh. I just got news for you. You're not gonna have any You're not going to have any spiritual strength to bring the flesh 1:36:401 hour, 36 minutes, 40 secondsunder control. Remember Paul said in 1 Corinthians nine, he said, "I keep my body and I bring it under subjection, 1:36:491 hour, 36 minutes, 49 secondslest by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should become a cast away or reprobate." So Paul was saying, I I by the by the spirit by the things 1:36:581 hour, 36 minutes, 58 secondsof the spirit, I keep my body, my flesh under control. And the things of the spirit are just what I said. Prayer, fasting, 1:37:071 hour, 37 minutes, 7 secondsreading, studying, meditating on the word of God, praying, praying in tongues, praying in the spirit, um binding the devil, resisting the devil. 1:37:151 hour, 37 minutes, 15 secondsI mean, again, you got to be exercising your spiritual muscles so that when you enter the battle and the fight, you're ready to stand, putting on the whole 1:37:231 hour, 37 minutes, 23 secondsarmor of God. Um, but you know, if if you haven't been doing that and you've been just neglecting prayer, you've been 1:37:311 hour, 37 minutes, 31 secondssitting around watching hours of TV, you know, you don't pray, you don't fast, you don't read your Bible, um, you get into a situation, 1:37:401 hour, 37 minutes, 40 secondsum, you're not going to really have any strength to to bring the flesh under control or the demons for that matter. 1:37:461 hour, 37 minutes, 46 secondsSo, I hope that answered the question there. 1:37:511 hour, 37 minutes, 51 secondsAny more questions? Those are good questions. Hey guys out there on Facebook and those of you uh listening and watching, those are great questions. 1:37:591 hour, 37 minutes, 59 secondsUm, you know, this is a real battle. 1:38:021 hour, 38 minutes, 2 secondsThis is this is the real battle. This is the day-to-day nuts and bolts. This is where the rubber meets the road. Um, you 1:38:101 hour, 38 minutes, 10 secondsknow, relationships. I tell people all the time, you know, uh, even marriage, I mean, marriage is the is a a crucible. 1:38:181 hour, 38 minutes, 18 secondsIt's funny. I mean, God to to ordain from the foundation of the world to put together uh two such different 1:38:251 hour, 38 minutes, 25 secondscreatures, male and female, and make them live in the same house and uh have children, and that's the how we're going 1:38:341 hour, 38 minutes, 34 secondsto make the human race keep going, and that's how we're going to uh um you know, do things. It's just amazing 1:38:411 hour, 38 minutes, 41 secondsbecause we're so different. But those differences um God knows that if we will allow him 1:38:481 hour, 38 minutes, 48 secondsto work and do what we need to do, those differences are will make us a better person. Call it, you know, holy 1:38:561 hour, 38 minutes, 56 secondssandpaper. I know I'm holy sandpaper on my wife. I mean, I am. I know it. I drive her crazy. 1:39:031 hour, 39 minutes, 3 secondsAnd uh and she'll tell you, she's like, she, you know, she can't get me trained. 1:39:081 hour, 39 minutes, 8 secondsIt won't ever happen. She won't ever But again, she learns to deal with that 1:39:161 hour, 39 minutes, 16 secondsinstead of it turning into anger or frustration or bitterness or unforgiveness. And and folks, if you if 1:39:231 hour, 39 minutes, 23 secondsif you if they're married people, if you're listening tonight, I'm telling you, I said it a couple of weeks ago when I did the message on Open 1:39:311 hour, 39 minutes, 31 secondsDoors. Um, if you don't forgive quickly and frequently in your marriage and 1:39:391 hour, 39 minutes, 39 secondstruly truly if you're still bringing up stuff that happened 2 3 5 10 20 years ago, 1:39:471 hour, 39 minutes, 47 secondssomething's wrong because those things should be forgiven and and put away. 1:39:551 hour, 39 minutes, 55 secondsWe should only be deal Look, my wife and I, we get in a fight every now and then, our argument about something. It's much less now than when we first got married 1:40:021 hour, 40 minutes, 2 secondsbecause we we've learned each other better. But still, there's nothing coming up. We're not I'm not bringing up something she did 8 years ago. 1:40:121 hour, 40 minutes, 12 secondsIt's not going to happen. 1:40:151 hour, 40 minutes, 15 secondsAnd that's what I told people. I said, you know, with all of our issues, with my issues and her issues, and you know, we're both leader personalities, so you 1:40:241 hour, 40 minutes, 24 secondsknow, that's real easy. and she's very organized and and uh list oriented and 1:40:311 hour, 40 minutes, 31 secondsI'm fly by the seat of my pants. Uh hate list and don't like to plan. It drives 1:40:391 hour, 40 minutes, 39 secondsKevin crazy too. But what I'm saying is is that you know we we butt heads. We're going to butt heads. Um and we're going 1:40:481 hour, 40 minutes, 48 secondsto rub each other the wrong way. But but it's going to happen. And so to have a 1:40:551 hour, 40 minutes, 55 secondsgood marriage, you got to be able to say, "I'm sorry. Forgive me. I stepped over the line there." Um, and do that often and frequently. 1:41:081 hour, 41 minutes, 8 secondsAnd then truly forgive. 1:41:111 hour, 41 minutes, 11 secondsAnd if you and if you do those things, you you'll have a good marriage. I can honestly say that my wife and I, we don't have anything built up from even 1:41:201 hour, 41 minutes, 20 secondslast year or the year before that or when we first got married there. It just doesn't come up. 1:41:291 hour, 41 minutes, 29 secondsYou know, again, if you're arguing about stuff that happened years ago, somebody 1:41:361 hour, 41 minutes, 36 secondshasn't forgiven or both of you maybe um serious serious issues. 1:41:441 hour, 41 minutes, 44 secondsBut look, I'm not going to keep pounding and pounding this issue. We could go through many, many, many, many scriptures, many, many more. But I think 1:41:531 hour, 41 minutes, 53 secondsI think we've made the point tonight. If you're watching on Facebook or YouTube or you're listening tonight, here's the 1:42:011 hour, 42 minutes, 1 secondhere's the sum of the matter. We'll pull the Solomon uh thing here. Here the sum of the matter. 1:42:071 hour, 42 minutes, 7 secondsIf you're going to we'll go back to the first passage of scripture we looked at in Matthew 24:10 through13. He said, 1:42:151 hour, 42 minutes, 15 seconds"And then shall many be offended, shall betray one another, and shall hate one another, detest, not like 1:42:231 hour, 42 minutes, 23 secondsum want revenge, want to inflict some kind of mistreatment." He says, "And many false prophets shall 1:42:311 hour, 42 minutes, 31 secondsrise and deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, but he that shall endure 1:42:371 hour, 42 minutes, 37 secondsunto the end, the same shall be saved." Don't let your love grow cold. You say, "Well, pastor, how do I know if my 1:42:461 hour, 42 minutes, 46 secondslove's going cold?" Well, your love's going cold if you're not forgiving people when they hurt you. 1:42:521 hour, 42 minutes, 52 secondsYour love's going cold if you want revenge. 1:42:591 hour, 42 minutes, 59 secondsYou're going to have to endure. You're going to have to fight through this. I mean, this is one of those issues. Look, just like I, you know, I've counseledled 1:43:061 hour, 43 minutes, 6 secondsmany, many, many guys over the years that have struggled with sexual lusts, 1:43:131 hour, 43 minutes, 13 secondssexual sin, pornography, on and off, up and down, all around struggle. I mean, 1:43:211 hour, 43 minutes, 21 secondsjust in a u you know, some of them molested when they were kids and so they had extra struggle. Some of them just were so promiscuous 1:43:301 hour, 43 minutes, 30 secondsum that they just, you know, again, they trained themselves and they opened so many doors. And I mean, so there's guys 1:43:371 hour, 43 minutes, 37 secondsout there that are just they're doing what they they're struggling to walk the Christian life. But listen, it's a struggle. You better win. It's a 1:43:461 hour, 43 minutes, 46 secondsstruggle. You better you better overcome. The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, sexual immorality. You cannot be a fornicator, an adulterer, a 1:43:531 hour, 43 minutes, 53 secondshomosexual. you can't and and go to heaven. So, you better be in a process of fighting the battle, learning how to 1:44:021 hour, 44 minutes, 2 secondsovercome in the name of Jesus and through the weapons of warfare and through all the spiritual uh things in the word of God that God gives us to fight and become strong. 1:44:131 hour, 44 minutes, 13 secondsYou better be engaged in that fight. And this is another area, this area of 1:44:201 hour, 44 minutes, 20 secondsunforgiveness, bitterness, offense, and yes, even hatred hidden in our hearts toward people. This is something that's 1:44:281 hour, 44 minutes, 28 secondsan ongoing battle that we're going to fight. We may get everybody forgiven and 1:44:341 hour, 44 minutes, 34 secondsbe happy, joyful, you know, wonderful, you know, in a wonderful place, and then, you know, here it comes. 1:44:431 hour, 44 minutes, 43 secondsSomebody's coming and they're going to hurt you or they're going to turn against you or they're going to betray you or they're going to lie about you or 1:44:511 hour, 44 minutes, 51 secondsthey're going to falsely accuse you or they're going to, you know, steal from you or hurt somebody in your family or whatever. I mean, 1:45:001 hour, 45 minutesit's coming. The devil, that's why Jesus said offenses will come. They're coming. 1:45:041 hour, 45 minutes, 4 secondsThere's nothing you can do to stop. You cannot stop them from coming. They are coming. It's going to be how do you handle them? 1:45:111 hour, 45 minutes, 11 secondsAnd this is ongoing. So this is something you need to put in practice, but you never, it never gets put in, you 1:45:201 hour, 45 minutes, 20 secondsknow, on a shelf in a back room somewhere in a dark closet. And you go, "Okay, I learned this. I've done this. I put this up on the back shelf in the in 1:45:271 hour, 45 minutes, 27 secondsthe closet back there. We're never going to have to deal with this again." That's just not going to happen. You're going to be dealing with this. 1:45:341 hour, 45 minutes, 34 secondsAnd as the days get darker, as the days get more intense, as persecution and 1:45:421 hour, 45 minutes, 42 secondshatred rises in the earth more and more, listen, when Jesus said here, people are going to betray one another. You can't 1:45:501 hour, 45 minutes, 50 secondsbe betrayed by an enemy. You're betrayed by someone you you trusted, that you love, that was close to you. Betrayal is 1:45:571 hour, 45 minutes, 57 secondsone of the most painful things because it was somebody you you loved and trusted and thought was a friend or you know a loved one or uh you know a 1:46:061 hour, 46 minutes, 6 secondsbrother or sister in Christ and you you walked to the house of God and company and everything was wonderful and then you find out that they turned on you. 1:46:141 hour, 46 minutes, 14 secondsIt's funny. Everybody who endorsed my first book turned against me. Every single one of them except for one. 1:46:221 hour, 46 minutes, 22 secondsEveryone who wrote the little blurb, endorsed my first book, eventually turned against me, betrayed me 1:46:291 hour, 46 minutes, 29 secondsviciously. Some of them, hey, it happens. 1:46:351 hour, 46 minutes, 35 secondsYou know, Jesus had a Judas in his life and his ministry was only three years. 1:46:421 hour, 46 minutes, 42 secondsHow many Judicases do you get with 30 years of ministry? A few more. Let's just put it that way. There's always going to be betrayal. 1:46:501 hour, 46 minutes, 50 secondsThere's always going to be people sinning and trespassing against you. Uh there's always going to be tongues wagging against you. There's always 1:46:591 hour, 46 minutes, 59 secondsgoing to be, you know, debates and strife and disagreement and but it's all in how we handle them. 1:47:071 hour, 47 minutes, 7 secondsUm so I hope tonight that this has helped somebody and and just remember this, you know, as Paul said in Romans, and I I'm thinking it's Romans uh 14. 1:47:171 hour, 47 minutes, 17 secondsYou you might can check me on this. I don't It's just in my mind I can't but you know Kevin you can find this but 1:47:251 hour, 47 minutes, 25 secondsbasically he says this as much as lith in you as much basically as much as possible live peaceibly with all men. 1:47:361 hour, 47 minutes, 36 secondsI mean that's what we should seek is that I'm going to love my enemies. I'm going to bless those who curse me. I'm going to do my very best to live peacefully. 1:47:461 hour, 47 minutes, 46 secondsThat doesn't mean that I'm going to compromise what the word of God says that I'm going to water down or I'm going to ignore sin or I'm going to 1:47:531 hour, 47 minutes, 53 secondsignore uh error or I'm going to ignore things. No. 1:47:581 hour, 47 minutes, 58 secondsBut as much as possible, we should try to be at peace even with our enemies. I 1:48:051 hour, 48 minutes, 5 secondslove the verse in Proverbs, a man's ways please the Lord, he causes even his enemies to be at peace with him. And I've experienced that. some of my my my worst judices in my life. 1:48:181 hour, 48 minutes, 18 secondsUm because I prayed, because I forgave them, because I prayed for them, I blessed them. Um I I worked real hard to 1:48:251 hour, 48 minutes, 25 secondsmake sure I wasn't in unforgiveness or bitterness or hatred. I have seen God take my enemies and even some of my 1:48:341 hour, 48 minutes, 34 secondsJudas's and they have come full circle and even have supported this ministry and blessed 1:48:411 hour, 48 minutes, 41 secondsus and become you know friends and or at least to the point of getting along and and being fine. So, 1:48:501 hour, 48 minutes, 50 secondsum, good things can happen when you when you try to walk in peace and to love people and 1:48:591 hour, 48 minutes, 59 secondsforgive people and bless even your enemies. And that's what I hope, you know, I hope for this family with this 1:49:071 hour, 49 minutes, 7 secondsfather who did such damage. He did do damage. He did bring a lot of pain and a lot of damage. But this man has paid 1:49:161 hour, 49 minutes, 16 secondsdearly. He he missed out on the lives of his children and his grandchildren and and he's dying. 1:49:251 hour, 49 minutes, 25 secondsHopefully these all the rest of the family, even the exwife, the mother of these four children who 1:49:341 hour, 49 minutes, 34 secondswere abandoned and hurt can forgive this man and bless him 1:49:411 hour, 49 minutes, 41 secondsand show compassion and mercy and truly forgive from the heart so that he can find Jesus before he dies 1:49:511 hour, 49 minutes, 51 secondsand he can find forgiveness and love from people. Guess what? He's He's wanting forgiveness and love that he doesn't deserve. 1:50:001 hour, 50 minutesBut isn't that the way it is with all of us? With God, we want God's love and forgiveness. We don't deserve it, but we 1:50:071 hour, 50 minutes, 7 secondswant it and he gives it. And he wants us to do that with other people. So anyway, I 1:50:161 hour, 50 minutes, 16 secondshope that this has spoken to someone out there tonight and that you will put this 1:50:251 hour, 50 minutes, 25 secondsinto practice um immediately and frequently. Um is there any more one more question? 1:50:331 hour, 50 minutes, 33 secondsYou're looking like you got a question back there. We got about we got 10 minutes. Yeah, I see him stirring back there. 1:50:421 hour, 50 minutes, 42 secondsYeah, we can uh we got a couple of questions here we can all look at is uh not sure if you mentioned this. However, 1:50:491 hour, 50 minutes, 49 secondshow do you know that you have fully forgiven someone? What are some of the signs? And then another one, is it okay for a Christian man to live with a single female as roommates? 1:51:021 hour, 51 minutes, 2 secondsOh boy. 1:51:061 hour, 51 minutes, 6 secondsAll right. Number one, um how do you know that you forgiven? 1:51:101 hour, 51 minutes, 10 secondsI think you can tell by your attitude just just the inside. You'll know like when I forgave this family member that 1:51:191 hour, 51 minutes, 19 secondshurt me and and continues to show bad behavior. Um I can just tell you that my 1:51:281 hour, 51 minutes, 28 secondsI guess the desires for self-satisfaction in the situation were not the the primary issue anymore. 1:51:401 hour, 51 minutes, 40 secondsMy desire began began to get focused on them being blessed, them being touched, 1:51:471 hour, 51 minutes, 47 secondsthem being helped than me being made to feel better or justified or vindicated or I don't know. It kind There was kind 1:51:561 hour, 51 minutes, 56 secondsof a switch. It was like no longer did I need to cuss them out or bless them out or correct them or jump on them or, you 1:52:051 hour, 52 minutes, 5 secondsknow, hit back and say, "Look, you know, I'm done." or whatever. Uh you you could just tell there's just a change in your heart, in your attitude toward them. Uh 1:52:141 hour, 52 minutes, 14 secondsyou find it easier to pray for them. You find it easier to if if you were going to be around them, you find it easier um 1:52:221 hour, 52 minutes, 22 secondsyou just you just find yourself at peace. You just know it's it's it's lifted off of you. It's like when you finally repent of a sin that you've been 1:52:301 hour, 52 minutes, 30 secondsstruggling with for a long time and you finally repent and you finally break that stronghold off and it and it lifts off of you and you just feel, "Wow, I 1:52:391 hour, 52 minutes, 39 secondsdidn't even realize how much that was messing with me." So, let's put it this way. As as some old 1:52:471 hour, 52 minutes, 47 secondspreachers used to say, if you can be saved and not know it, you could lose it and not miss it. Uh when you've truly forgiven somebody that you've had unforgiveness, you know it. It's just 1:52:551 hour, 52 minutes, 55 secondsjust an it's an inner revelation. It's an inner knowing from the Lord that it's done. And uh and if you're his if you're 1:53:031 hour, 53 minutes, 3 secondsif you belong to Jesus and you're walking with him and you don't do it, he's going to convict. He's going to deal with you. And conviction from the 1:53:101 hour, 53 minutes, 10 secondsHoly Spirit can be quite miserable at times. So, uh when when your peace is restored to you because you've dealt 1:53:171 hour, 53 minutes, 17 secondswith unforgiveness or hatred or bitterness, believe me, you will know it. 1:53:231 hour, 53 minutes, 23 secondsUh, on the other note, I will say this. 1:53:281 hour, 53 minutes, 28 secondsFirst Thessalonians, and I'm trying to remember where is it? 1:53:331 hour, 53 minutes, 33 secondsVerse 21. 1 Thessalonians 5:21, I believe. 209, 20, 21, somewhere in there. 1:53:401 hour, 53 minutes, 40 secondsIt says this. It says, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." I will say that I know there's a lot of 1:53:491 hour, 53 minutes, 49 secondscrazy situations out there in the world that people didn't intend to end up in certain financial problems and 1:53:571 hour, 53 minutes, 57 secondscertain situations. But um but I will say this um if you're a 1:54:051 hour, 54 minutes, 5 secondsChristian um even if if you have a a if you're a male and you have a female 1:54:111 hour, 54 minutes, 11 secondsroommate, I'm telling you that you nothing may be going on. Y'all may be like brother and sister, but you're not. 1:54:201 hour, 54 minutes, 20 secondsAnd um you might could tell everybody around you, hey, nothing's going on. 1:54:261 hour, 54 minutes, 26 secondsWe're just friends. we're just this is just a living situation, but it's still going to give the appearance 1:54:331 hour, 54 minutes, 33 secondsof evil. It's going to look like you're shacking up no matter how hard you try to make it look like you're not shacking up. So, 1:54:401 hour, 54 minutes, 40 secondsum, as Christians, we got enough difficulties trying to trying to show people that not only are we preaching 1:54:491 hour, 54 minutes, 49 secondsthe gospel, but we're trying to live the gospel. We're not just talking it, but we're living it. So, I would just say, look, it's time to uh as soon as you can 1:54:591 hour, 54 minutes, 59 secondsfix that situation, fix that situation so there's not the appearance of evil. 1:55:041 hour, 55 minutes, 4 secondsYou know, I mean, for that matter, I can talk about alcohol. Look, it's not a sin for me to have a beer, but if I go out here in this town and where I live and 1:55:121 hour, 55 minutes, 12 secondseverybody knows that I'm a pastor and I sit down at a at a restaurant and I have a beer, it may not be evil that I'm 1:55:191 hour, 55 minutes, 19 secondshaving a beer. one one beer, one drink is not going to do anything wrong. But people around me are not going to know. 1:55:261 hour, 55 minutes, 26 secondsThey don't know if that's if that's beer one or six or 12. They don't know. And the next thing you know is they're going 1:55:331 hour, 55 minutes, 33 secondsto say, "Hey, I saw Pastor Dean, you know, drinking a, you know, a beer at the restaurant. Oh, 1:55:411 hour, 55 minutes, 41 secondsreally? He must be okay with that." And that might cause somebody else that is weaker to think drinking's okay and that 1:55:481 hour, 55 minutes, 48 secondsChristians can drink and and so you know again it's the appearance of evil. It can cause other people to stumble and 1:55:561 hour, 55 minutes, 56 secondsyou just don't want to do that. You don't want to be a stumbling block. 1:56:021 hour, 56 minutes, 2 secondsSo one more question before we close out. Uh how do you deal with people that have unforgiveness towards you? 1:56:111 hour, 56 minutes, 11 secondsWell, you know, and that's that's a good question. Um, the the scripture says, and I and I have to go back. I believe it's Matthew 5. Let me see if I can flip 1:56:201 hour, 56 minutes, 20 secondsthere. I know we we're really short on time here, but uh Matthew 5, it does say, "If your if if you know your 1:56:271 hour, 56 minutes, 27 secondsbrother has an offense against you, if he has something against you, go to him." Um, and let me see if I can 1:56:361 hour, 56 minutes, 36 secondsI'm I'm pretty sure it's Matthew 5. Let me see. 1:56:391 hour, 56 minutes, 39 secondsUm yeah, here we go. Matthew 5 and we'll just read from verse 21. You have heard it that it said by them of 1:56:481 hour, 56 minutes, 48 secondsold time that thou shalt not kill and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. But I say unto you that whosoever is angry with his brother without a call shall be in danger of 1:56:561 hour, 56 minutes, 56 secondsjudgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother Raqqa shall be in danger of counsel. But whosoever shall say thou fool shall be in danger of hellfire. 1:57:061 hour, 57 minutes, 6 secondsTherefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has ought against you, leave the 1:57:141 hour, 57 minutes, 14 secondsgift before the altar and go your way and first be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift. So, 1:57:221 hour, 57 minutes, 22 secondswhat Jesus is saying, if you you're you're going to church, you're going to worship, you're going to the altar, you remember you know that a brother or a 1:57:291 hour, 57 minutes, 29 secondssister or a person has something against you. He's saying, "Hey, go to them and say, 'Hey, I I know you're offended with 1:57:371 hour, 57 minutes, 37 secondsme over something. What is it?" Or you may know what it is. Try to talk to them. That's all you can do is try to talk to them about it and say, "What's 1:57:461 hour, 57 minutes, 46 secondsup? Why is it why do I feel like there's something between us, you know, or or just try to resolve the problem." That's what he's saying. So, if you know 1:57:541 hour, 57 minutes, 54 secondssomebody has something against you, go to them. Um because a lot of times they're not going to come to you. 1:58:001 hour, 58 minutesThey're just not going to do it. I sadly so many Christians there are more Christians that are more comfortable talking about you badly behind your back 1:58:081 hour, 58 minutes, 8 secondsthan they would be to actually come to you and say look I got a problem with you I don't agree with you about this or I don't like you said that or you said this and hurt my feelings. I really 1:58:161 hour, 58 minutes, 16 secondsappreciate people who have come to me and said, "You know what? That hurt my feelings or um you know after we talk a minute, oh that was just a misunderstanding." You know, we just 1:58:251 hour, 58 minutes, 25 secondsdidn't didn't quite understand what you were saying or what you meant and and you can cl a lot of times just go a short conversation can clarify something 1:58:321 hour, 58 minutes, 32 secondsthat could end up turning into some big huge thing if we would just go talk to each other. Um, I do like that about our 1:58:401 hour, 58 minutes, 40 secondsour church is that uh people will go and say, "Hey, is there a problem between us?" I like that. We need to do that more often. More Christians deceive themselves about hatred and unforgiveness in their hearts than anything else. And those who do admit that they have these problems don't know how to deal with them correctly. We confronted some specific situations and by God's grace, we explained how to truly forgive from the heart and walk in love toward those who did you wrong.
