Open doorways to demons and how to get rid of them, and also God willing in this series will deal with accursed objects that you bring into your possession and the effect that they can have on you even if you're a Christian. So this morning we're going to talk about, this is part two, demons and deliverance two, that's in Christians. So everybody if you want to take out your Bible, I'm going to review just a little bit from last week because I want to establish that I did cover a little bit of this issue, can a Christian have a demon last week? We're on slide two now. I don't know where, there we go, but anyway, this is Ephesians 4.27 and of course as I stated last week, Ephesians chapter 1 verse 1 says the book of Ephesians written by the Apostle Paul by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the book of Ephesians was given to the saints and to the faithful in Christ Jesus, that's who he was writing to. So Paul makes it clear in Ephesians 1 that he's writing to board again Christians to the church of Ephesus. And then in chapter 4 verse 27 he makes this statement, he says neither give place to the devil, that means don't give any place to the devil. So again, if a Christian could not give place to demons in their lives, why would the Apostle Paul warn Christians to not give place? And the word place here is topos, which we get our word topography from, which means space, space on the map, well the map we're talking about here, the ground we're talking about is spirit, soul, or body of the human being. If you give place to the devil, he will take it every time. Of course Peter warned, 1 Peter 5.8 be sober, be vigilant because you're adversary the devil as a roaring lion walketh about seeking whom he may devour.
So we're in a war, in Ecclesiastes, I shared this passage last week, this makes it very clear that anyone can break the hedge. Ecclesiastes 10.8 and it says this, he that diggeth a pit shall fall into it, and whoso or whosoever breaketh a hedge a serpent shall bite in. Now this is an important passage here because we know that Jesus revealed in Luke chapter 10, he referred to demons as serpents and scorpions, that's a symbol for them or two different symbols, serpents and scorpions. So this Old Testament passage here from Solomon is giving us a picture here that whosoever breaks the hedge a serpent will bite him. Now a serpent, if it bites you, it latches onto you, it's things going in you, and it leaves some poison inside of you to try to harm you or kill you. This is how Satan and the demons work, they wait for you to break the hedge and breaking the hedge can be done by ignorance, it can be done by will from sin, we're going to get into all those doorways next week in detail, I can't do it all today. But I just want you to see it says whosoever, and as I said last week, if a Christian can sin, then a Christian can break the hedge, open the door for a demon to latch hold of him and bring harm and been bitten by a water moccasin so I know how it works. Alright now let's keep going. This is a very important passage today that I want you to get ahold of. This is 1 Corinthians chapter 10, I don't want you having fellowship with devils, fellowship
with demons. Now the word in the Greek for fellowship here is koinonia, and it's the same word used when we talk about having fellowship with the Holy Spirit. It's an intimacy, it's a closeness, it's a spiritual thing, not just a physical thing. So I want you to just see that Paul wrote this, now think about this, he wrote this to the Corinthian church. This was 2 Christians, this was not 2 unbelievers, he said look the unbelievers they do all this stuff, but I'm telling you don't have fellowship, intimacy, spiritual interaction with demons. So that means folks for Christians it is possible. If you want to go into idolatry, if you want to play with idolatry, if you want to play with sin, you open the door to have fellowship with demons and they can come in, and I'm going to say this and I can prove this by scripture, they can come into your spirit, your soul, or your body, doesn't mean again that you're totally demon possessed or totally controlled, but they can come in and get a foothold or a stronghold in you and cause great problems. Now we're going to look back, look at Matthew chapter 8, 16, and 17 here. I covered this last week, but I wanted you to see it again. This is right after Jesus healed, rebuked the fever of Peter's mother-in-law, and she was healed, and he was at Peter's house that evening, it says, and when the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils, and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying himself took our infirmities and bear our sicknesses. Now I want to say this about this passage before I go any further, that what's interesting about this is it talks about Jesus, Isaiah 53, and Jesus bearing our infirmities and our sicknesses. Isaiah 53 also talks about, in verse 5, he was wounded for our transgression. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed. This is the same passage that talks about how Jesus paid for sin, for our sins. He paid for salvation, but it goes on to talk about how he paid for healing, and then it applies to this right here, where it says how he paid for deliverance from demons. The blood of Jesus has paid for these things, but listen to me, Christian, very closely this morning. Everything that Jesus bought and paid for doesn't come to you automatically. Everything must be received by faith, meaning you have to do some. For instance, to get saved, Jesus died for everyone. The Bible tells us this. First John, that Jesus took on himself the sins of all mankind. Jesus died for all, once for all. But does that mean all will be saved?
No, it does not mean all will be saved. Only those who believe, exercise faith, and then confess with their mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in their heart that God has raised him from the dead, and they're willing to repent of their sins, put actions with what they say they believe. Only those people are given the power to become the sons and daughters of God. Only those people get what Jesus paid for, and that is the forgiveness of sins, and the hope of eternal life in heaven. Right, faith must be exercised. Well, the same goes for healing or deliverance from demons. It's not automatic. It's not I get saved and I get everything, and I don't have to do anything, or speak anything, or act upon anything. As the book of James says in James 2, he says it several times. Faith without works is dead being alone. Faith has corresponding actions. Faith will always say something or do something. It believes it, says it, and then acts upon it. That's faith. So I want you to get that down in you. If you don't speak and repent, you don't receive salvation. If you don't speak and believe, you won't receive healing or delivery. If you don't resist the devil, he will not flee from you. If you don't bind him and cast him out, he's not going anywhere, even though Jesus paid for it. Now, last week we defined the words possession. This is, next one here is the Greek word for possession or possessed with devils. It's Dahimonizomihi, try to say that three times fast. It says to be exercised by a demon, have a demon, be vexed with a demon, basically to be controlled by a demon. As I said last week, the next word from Acts 10, to be oppressed of the devil, it's really the same word. Everybody gets all this bent out of shape. Well, Christians can be oppressed, but they can't be possessed. I'm sick of these games we play. The word oppression here from Acts 10, 38, again, says to exercise harsh control over. So I don't know which one sounds worse, possession or oppression. Either way, the devil has got a foothold in your life, whether you call it possession or oppression. Like I said last week, annihilation or destruction, whichever one you want to pick, two different words mean the same thing. Same thing with possession. It just means to be vexed, to be afflicted, to be pushed, to be controlled. And that the devil has a legal right, because you've given him a doorway, an opening, you've given legal right for Satan to do this, or a Christian does. Last week I shared with you that there are degrees of possessions or strongholds in people. We went through the scriptures, of course, the three passages, a daughter of Abraham
had one demon in Luke 13, and again notice it says daughter of Abraham, meaning she was a blood covenant child of God. She had one demon, and Jesus cast that demon out of her and she was healed. Mary Magdalene in Luke 8 had seven demons. And then we see the Gadarene demoniac in Mark 5 had a legion of demons, which means anywhere from 2,000 to 6,000 demons, and I've run across each one of these different degrees of demon possession, oppression, strongholds in people, however you want to say it. And I want to tell you, you cast them out the same way. Whether it's one demon, seven demons, or legions of demons, you bind them in Jesus' name, you break their power, you pull down their strongholds, and you command them to come out of the person, to leave them in the name of Jesus Christ. Here it's important to understand this, and this is a verse we're going to come back later, or passage rather, Matthew 12, 43 through 45. Jesus says this, when the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, that means somebody cast it out, demons don't just leave, they have to be cast out through the power and authority of the name of Jesus Christ, there is no other way. When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he walked it through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. It's interesting, as I'm going to show you in a minute, the book of Enoch said the same thing. It says, then he saith, I will return into my house, from whence I came out, and when he has come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Now what makes this, the two things I want you to get from this passage are simple. The demons consider a human being a house, or a temple. A structure has many rooms, and also we discover that a person can go through deliverance, have the demons cast out of them. But if their house is empty, they don't have Jesus, the Holy Spirit. They don't have the house full of the Holy Ghost, full of the Lord Jesus Christ. If they don't have the house full, then they will not be able to stay free. In fact, they're going to be worse, which is one of the reasons why you are not supposed to cast demons out of unsaved people. I mean, the church world has it completely opposite. They think we only cast demons out of the unsaved, and it's only the unsaved that have demons, when the other way around is, no, the only people who are candidates for deliverance are people who are born again following Jesus, truly repented of sin, don't want to live in sin, don't want to keep opening the door, giving the devil place. That's the person that we can cast demons out of, and the demons go, and then the house has Jesus and the Holy Ghost in there. Now, I am going to address the big argument that's always around, what
about light and darkness? Do I look in the same place at the same time? I'm so sick of hearing that. I've heard it for 30 years, and it's so easy to deal with. But I want you to see, as we shared, I illustrated this last week. Some people love my little structure I built. I'm no architect, but it works. I did this in PowerPoint years ago. But there's your one demon in one room. You've got spirit, soul, and body. There's your seven demons. There's Mary Magdalene. She had a few more. And there's your gathering demoniac. So you see there's degrees of this stuff. Just because I start talking about a Christian needing deliverance, I don't mean that you're Linda Blair, and you're going to float off the ground and head spin around and vomit pea soup and kill a priest. No, none of that. All right? When we get to that point, we talked about last week the two cleanseings. Again, for Christians. And how the illustration from the Old Testament, from the Tabernacle of Moses, how when the priest came into the outer court, the first place they had to go to was the brazen altar where the blood sacrifice was given. So there's the cleansing of the blood. Then they had to go to the brazen lava that had the water in it and wash before they could go into the holy place. And of course, the high priest had to do this before he could go into the most holy place in the back. So there's two cleanseings. What are they? Well, in the New Testament reality, that's an Old Testament type and shadow. In New Testament reality, 1 John 7 through 9 says, if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship well and other than the blood of Jesus Christ, his son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and it cleanses us from all unrighteousness. So the first cleansing is confession of sin, repentance and the blood of Jesus. Then he said though, there's a second cleansing, two Christians. And again, speaking to the Corinthians, and how many, you want to know why the Corinthians had so many issues and Paul had to address these things? Because the Church of Corinth had to deal with in their city, on top of a hill, there was this huge temple to Aphrodite. And it is said that there were some 1,000 temple prostitutes. And this was a naval town. So all the drunken sailors would come in town and to go and worship Apollo or Aphrodite or Venus, they had all their different names for this goddess of lust. But they would go up to the temple and they would pay to have sex with one of the priestesses of the religion. And that was them communing with the god of the temple. But they had so many others. So this place was full of idolatry, immorality, sacrificing to demons,
sacrificing and offering food to demons. And Paul had to tell the Corinthians who were still having a problem with fordication, drunkenness, immorality, and we're talking about Christians now. Paul tells them, and this is his second letter to them. He says, having therefore these promises dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. So what's he talking about? Spiritual uncleanness. What did Jesus call demons? What are the names? Unclean demons. So Paul was telling these Corinthian Christians, yes, it's one thing to have your sins forgiven. It's another thing to cleanse yourself from unclean spirits. There's two cleanings you have to do before you're fit to really serve the Lord in his tabernacle. Now as we get into this this morning, there's three things that I want you to understand. And please, please, I want to go through these kind of slow because these are so very important. All right, there's three things as we study this this morning, as I break this down, we're going to be in the Old Testament and the New Testament. It's important that you understand, number one, that the things that happened under them in the Old Testament are examples unto us in the New Covenant. All right, just remember that we're going to read the passage in just a second from 1 Corinthians 10. The second thing you need to understand that many things that actually happen, real events in the Old Testament are types, shadows and allegories of New Testament truth, i.e. like the first Passover. The third thing I want you to realize and understand is that the Lord Jesus was ministering under the Old Covenant or Old Testament as he was establishing the New. So when Jesus ministered to Israelites, he was ministering to blood covenant children of God. Now if you say any different, you're going against what the Scripture says. See, because I got some psycho lady out there trying to tell me that, you know, Christian can't have a demon and it's not in the New Testament. Well, I'm going to show you, it's in the New and the Old, but you've got to understand that some of the people, Jesus, you remember Jesus making the statement, I'm not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel? It's a reason for that. The New Covenant, the New Testament was not fully initiated until Jesus died on the cross. So Jesus was operating under the Old Covenant as he was establishing, fulfilling and establishing the New. So that's why sometimes we get confused of these things. But anyway, I hope you got those three things. Now I know some of them are kind of hard to see. The last one, the Lord Jesus was ministering under the Old
Testament as he was establishing the New. So when Jesus ministered to Israelites, he was ministering to blood covenant children of God. Not the Gentiles, not those outside the covenant, or what we would call the unsaved. Now let's read 1 Corinthians 10, 1 through 6 first, we'll probably read a few more verses after that, but moreover brethren, he says here, everybody turn there, I want you to see it. 1 Corinthians 10, 1 through 6, if you take a note, you can just write it down or you want to watch up here, it's fine. But he says this, moreover brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant. So who is he talking to? Unsaved people? I just love to keep pointing this out. Moreover brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant now that all our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through the sea were all baptized under Moses in the cloud and in the sea and did all eat the same spiritual meat and did all drink the same spiritual drink for they drink of that spiritual rock that followed them. And that rock was Christ, but with many of them, God was not well pleased for they were overthrown in the wilderness. These things were our examples. Everybody hear that? These things are examples unto us to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And then he continues, 1 Corinthians 7 through 12, neither be ye idolaters as were some of them, as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. Now, what did we learn from 1 Corinthians 10 a little further down? Remember a minute ago, verse 20, if you're an idolater, you are doing what with demons? Fellowshipping with demons. You're opening the door to demons. So he's saying here, the Israelites were opening the doors to demons by their idolatry and also by their fornication. So he says, neither be idolaters as were some of them, as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication if some of them committed and fell in one day, 3 in 20,000. So people died. And then I find this interesting. He says, neither let us tempt Christ as some of them also tempted and were destroyed of serpents, serpents. Remember the serpents that were biting them? Because of what? Their sins of idolatry and fornication. They were tempting God. And he says, the serpents were biting them, many of them dying. What is that a picture, a type, a shadow, an example of to us? If we open the doors to demons through idolatry, fornication, sexual immorality, we open the door to demons that we're going to be attacked. And yes, some even die. And then he says, neither murmur, yet some of them also murmured and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for examples. And they are written for our admonition, correction, instruction, teaching, upon whom the ends of the world are come, wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.
So he's clearly talking about sin and demons. Now here's the Greek definition for the word example here. And I love this, down here it says two posts. It means a die, a stamp, a scar, a shape, a statue, a style, a resemblance, a sampler, a model for imitation, for instance, for warning, a pattern. So God is saying that these things that happened unto them were examples, patterns, for our instruction. So again, we live under the new covenant, we don't live under the old covenant, but we still learn from the examples and we put them into a new covenant context. I'll give you an example. Now here's a type of shadow and example. Let's just look at the first Passover. Everybody ought to know what this means. This is Exodus 12, verses 12 and 13. God said, for I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment, and against all the gods of Egypt, rather, and I am the Lord, and behold, and the blood, rather, shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. So we see that the Passover, and as many will say, you know, of course, 1 Corinthians 5 talks about Christ, our Passover. Jesus became our Passover lamb. He was crucified on Passover. So Jesus becomes our Passover, and it's the blood that has to be applied to our lives. The blood of Jesus has to be applied to the doorways of our lives, so that death and destruction and eternal damnation will pass over us. But remember, it says, we read it a minute ago, 1 John, if we walk, if, if we walk in the land, as he is in the, then the blood. Remember, the Israelites had to do something. It wasn't just automatic. Oh, I'm an Israelite, so therefore, I don't need to put the blood on my doorpost. No, no, no, no, no. You better put some actions to that faith. You better get the blood of the lamb and the hyssop, and you better put it on your doorpost. Again, that faith has actions. So, but what is the Passover is a type or shadow of what to us in the New Testament? Salvation, when we receive the blood of Jesus to wash our sins away for salvation, and God delivers us from Egypt a type or shadow of the world. Now, this is commonly accepted within Christianity that this Passover, it was a real event, but it also is an allegory, a type or shadow of what we experience in the New Testament through the blood of Jesus or salvation. Everybody with me? The next thing we see, and we're gonna read
1 Corinthians 10, one through two again. He says, moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant how that all of our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through the sea, and thus were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea. So when they went through the Red Sea, when the pillar of the cloud of God's presence came to them to lead them through the wilderness, to protect them from Pharaoh as God was dividing the sea. As the cloud of God's presence came, and as the sea was parted and they went through the sea, God is saying this is a type or shadow of two baptisms that we experience as believers. Water baptism and the cloud of God's presence, and who is that? The Holy Spirit, exactly. So you see that, two baptisms, that's why we have a perfect type or shadow from the Old Testament about salvation, then water baptism, then the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Each their own thing. Now, I heard for years when I was a young person going to church was that going into the Promised Land was a type and shadow of going to heaven. Could not be further from the truth. Let me explain something to you. The 40 years, remember, we have the Passover, them coming out of Egypt, the world, sinned by the blood of the lamb. Then we have them being baptized in the cloud of God's presence, the Holy Spirit, and through the sea, water baptism. And then they go into the wilderness. Now, their wanderings in the wilderness, what is that a picture of? Oh, brother, that's the picture of us in this weird world. No, it's not. Let me tell you what's a picture of. They could have went into the wilderness and straight into the Promised Land, but something hindered them. Disobedience, sin, whining and complaining against God. When God told them to go into the land, they didn't go, and God said, okay, fine. You're gonna wander in this wilderness until all these whiners and complainers are dead. Say, I'm in the wilderness, brother. No, you're in the wilderness. You better check and find out where you've been disobedient. Because the obedient Christians move into the Promised Land. But what is the Promised Land? If the Promised Land is not a type and shadow of heaven, and you say, well, Pastor Dean, that's why I've heard that my whole life. They taught that in the Baptist Church, in the Methodist Church, in the Assembly of God Church. That's what I heard. The Promised Land, they got hymns about it. No, it's not.
Because the Promised Land had one little problem. It was full of giants, Nephilim, strongholds of the pagan heathens. Let's read this. This is Numbers 13, 27 and 28, and 32 and 33. Gonna read this right here. Numbers 13. Moses had sent them into the land to some spies to go in. And when they came back, two said, we can do it. Caleb and Joshua, 10 said, we can't do it. And this is what they told him. It says, and they told him, it said, we came into the land, whether thou sent us. And surely it would floweth with milk and honey. And this is the fruit of it, nevertheless. Nevertheless. No, there's no nevertheless with God. You do what he says. Nevertheless, the people be strong that dwell in the land and the cities are walled and very great. Strongholds. Sound familiar? He says, the walls, the cities are walled and very great. And moreover, we saw the children of Anak there. Who are the children of Anak? Giants. What were the giants? The half-breeds of the fallen angels and human women. Very evil, powerful entities. And they were men and women of great stature. And they brought up an evil report of the land, which they had searched under the children of Israel, saying the land through which we have gone to search it is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants. And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers and so we were in their sight. So they tell us the Promised Land was full of Nephilim, giants. The fallen angel half-breeds, half-human, half-fallen angels. So if the Promised Land is full of these evil beings and their strongholds, how can it be a type of shadow of heaven? There's no evil beings, demonic strongholds, heathen, pagan, wicked people in heaven. Got to get our types and shadows correct here. What was the command that God gave to Moses and then to Joshua? It was to go into the land, drive out these evil inhabitants, destroy them, remove them, tear down their houses, their cities, their idols, drive them out. What is that a picture of, folks? Deliverance. Going into the Promised Land and fighting against the giants, the Nephilim and the demons and the strongholds, this is a type or shadow of picture of us going into our land. Remember, it's our land. Your spirit, soul, and body is yours.
It belongs to you. You're a temple of the Holy Ghost. But while you were messing around or while you were ignorant, the devil brought in his strongholds. He brought in the wicked. He brought in the unclean. And the obedient Christian grasped behold to this and obeys the command to drive them out, to clean the land. That's what this is a type or shadow of. Somebody out there, amen? Amen or old me, right? Now see, Israel failed to drive out the Canaanites. This is from the Book of Judges. Judges 1, 28, and then Judges 2, 1 through 3. It says, and it came to pass when Israel was strong that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out. Oh, this is a problem when you leave these Nephilim, these giants, these demon fallen angel creatures in your land. You don't drive them out. Here's what happens. Judges 2, 1 through 3. And the angel of the Lord came upon Gilgal to book him and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt. Salvation, I brought you into the land, which I swear unto your fathers. And I said, I will never break my covenant with you. And you shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land. You shall throw down their altars, but you have not obeyed my voice. Why have you done this? Wherefore, I also said, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall be as thorns in your sides and their gods shall be a snare to you. God's speaking to his own people. And he said, because you didn't obey me to drive these things out, I'm not doing it for you. He even said, I'm not doing it. I'm not driving them out. Isn't that what Jesus said? He said, in my name, you will cast out the demon. I'm not doing it for you. In my name, you cast them out. You clean the house. You, brethren, you cleanse the house of all filthiness and flesh. You do it. You sit on your butt and you don't. God's not doing it. And what's going to happen? The demonic strongholds that you leave in your land, they're going to be a snare to you. They're going to be thorns in your sides. And they're going to cause you to fall and stumble. The word snare, stumbling block, to fall, to trip up, to trap. Demonic strongholds in you, Christian, they're a time bomb. They're a ticking time bomb. They're like a sleeper cell. It's interesting, the Book of Enoch talks about this. And yes, I believe the Book of Enoch is legit because Peter and Paul and Jesus quote from it, word for word. I'm talking about the Enoch One found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, found in the Ethiopian Bible in the 1700s, then found in 1947 in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Here's the interest. This is Enoch 15, eight through 11.
Listen to what he says here about the giants, because this even makes more sense when you realize that demons and fallen angels are not the same thing. Everybody look at me. Do you hear what I said? Do you hear what I said? Everybody assumes the fallen angels and the demons are the same thing and not at all. The Bible bears that out and the Book of Enoch bears that out, but let's look at it. This is Enoch 15, eight through 11. He says, and now the giants who are produced from the spirits and flesh shall be called evil spirits upon the earth and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies. See the evil spirits, the demon spirits, are the spirits of the dead Nephilim, the dead giants. So even more so is the connection of the Promised Land representing, and the giants and the children of Enoch representing the demons. This is even more concrete and clear now. He says evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies because they are born from men and from the Holy Watchers is their beginning and their primal origin. And they shall be evil spirits on the earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth, which were born upon the earth, and the earth shall be their dwelling. This is where we get the ghost stories from, you guys. It's not human beings, spirits that are still here. It's the dead giant spirits that are still here. He goes on to say, as for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth, which were born upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling, and the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth and cause trouble. Sounds like demon spirits, right? They cause destruction and they cause trouble. They take no food, but nevertheless they hunger and thirst. Remember, Jesus said, when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, they walk in dry places seeking rest, satisfaction, peace. They only find that when they get in you. The only semblance of peace these unclean spirits find is when they get in you. Give them any. He says they shall cause offenses and these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women because they have proceeded from them. So because they're half fallen angel and half human, they come after us. You say, well, Pastor Dean, wait a minute now. That's the Book of Enoch. How do you know? Because the Bible tells us this, that the demon spirits and the fallen angels can't be the same thing. You know why? Because the fallen angels are chained until Judgment Day.
And this is what the Bible says. We'll give you two passages. And here's what's interesting. I'm gonna give you two passages, one from 2 Peter and one from Jude, but you're gonna find out that Peter and Jude are quoting Enoch. The angels that sinned are chained. 2 Peter 2, 4 through 5, for if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell. And delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment. And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, the preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. So God spared not the angels that sinned. Well, you say, well, that's just, is that just the ones that sinned with women? Or did he just say the angels that sinned? What angels sinned? The ones who followed Lucifer, Satan, out of heaven. Jude makes it clear, also Jude 6, and the angels which kept not their first estate. Well, who would that be? The ones who didn't stay in heaven, right? And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation. He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Everybody say this with me. Everlasting chains. Pretty much means forever, unto the judgment. So it's not fallen angels running around, possessing people, oppressing people, afflicting people. Everybody hear me? It's the dead spirits of the giants. And let me tell you something else. Remember this, that the Nephilim, the giants, the descendants of the half breed, the fallen angels and human women from Genesis 6. Remember, there were male giants and female giants. So when they die and their spirits leave their bodies and are made to roam the earth and they're looking for someone to possess, remember, one's a male spirit and one's a female spirit. I think there's some of these female spirits getting in to men is why they can act so effeminate and become homosexual. Some of that homosexuality is a demon, people. It's a demon. It's interesting, here's the book of Enoch. This is Enoch chapter 10. The book of Enoch was here before the New Testament. And the apostles and the Lord Jesus were very, very familiar with this and actually quoted it and taught principles within it quite often. Now look at this. Talking about the angels that sin and these angels that defile themselves with women. Here it is. And the Lord said unto Michael,
go bind some Zaza and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, the clash of the titans is what that was. That's not mythology, that's true. This happened. Bind them fast for 70 generations where in the valleys of the earth till the day of their judgment and of their consummation, the deep places of the earth, till the judgment that is forever and ever is consummated in those days shall they be led off to the abyss of fire and to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined forever. And it's interesting. The book of Enoch said, what? The angels that sinned, Michael, go bind them. Put them in the deep places of the earth and tell the judgment exactly what 2 Peter and the book of Jude has to say. You got a problem with Enoch, you got a problem with your Bible. Just gonna tell you that right now. Now let's get to this light and darkness question. Let's go to 2 Corinthians chapter six, 13 through 18. Let's just answer this. Light and darkness, Lord, have mercy. Can I just say that within creation, we have light and darkness at the same time every day. You know, who was it? Jimmy Buffett, five o'clock somewhere, was it him? Well, guess what? Right now, it's daytime where we live. On the other side of the world, it's nighttime. Day and night, light and darkness at the same time over our creation that God gave us. So you got that picture, but that's just one. But let's read this, 2 Corinthians six, 13 through 18. This is what the people who say, oh, Christian, can I have a demon, light and darkness? Can light and darkness dwell in the same place, same time? Yeah, guess what? It's dark up underneath this carpet, but this room's light. I mean, I could just do this all day long, right? Now, for a recompense and the same, Paul says here, I speak as unto my children. Whoa, whoa, who's he speaking to? Many people, he led to the Lord. He called himself a father in the faith, and the people that he led to Jesus that were born again through his travail of prayer, he called them his children. So he's speaking to Christians as if we needed to point that out. But as speak as unto my children, be also enlarged, be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? Now, first of all, let me say this. He's saying, be not unequally yoked with unbelievers. He's telling them this because they were already doing it. And he says, what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? It's not that they weren't or weren't able to do it.
They obviously were. He was pointing out, you can't live in both worlds. You can't do both. You're gonna have to make up your mind. Righteousness or unrighteousness? He says, in what communion hath light with darkness? He's saying again, what communion? What fellowship? And he's talking about spiritual light and spiritual darkness, because he's talking about righteousness and unrighteousness. Same thing. He says, what communion? What fellowship? None. You shouldn't be having both. You can't be a double-minded person. And then he says, in what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement? Half the temple of God with idols. For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said, I will dwell in them and will walk in them and I will be their God and they shall be my people. And then he says this, wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, sayeth the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing. Well, if he's having to tell Christians to come out from among them, that means they were doing these things already. He says, come out from that. Come out from what? Unrighteousness. Come out from darkness. Come out from Belial. Come out from being with the infidels and acting like an infidel. Come out from the idols. So he's telling them, come out from that stuff. Touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you. And I will be a father unto you and you shall be my sons and daughters, sayeth the Lord Almighty. So just the fact that Paul has to tell them, come out of this stuff, means they were doing this stuff. They were trying to live in light and darkness at the same time. They were trying to live in righteousness and unrighteous at the same time. They were trying to live with Jesus and the devil. Like I tell people all the time, you follow Jesus, you break up with the devil, you give him back his stuff. But they were trying, how many? This is the reality of many Christians now in our time trying to hold on to both worlds. Paul said, come out from that. And then this verse is followed by, this is the end of chapter six. And of course we already covered it, but seven verse one says, having therefore these promises. Dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and the spirit. So saying that light and darkness can't dwell at the same place at the same time, when you're speaking about spiritual darkness, Satan, demons. What they're saying is Satan and demons couldn't dwell in you as a temple if the Holy Spirit and God's in you. Well, guess what? We see that happening all the time. Let's look at it. I pointed this out last week, but I'm gonna cover it in detail right now. Y'all stay with me. Now God is omnipresent. That means he's everywhere all the time. If light and darkness could not exist in the same place, then Satan and his demons could not exist at all anywhere. We're gonna go to Job one and two in a minute. But look at Psalm 139, seven through 12 says, whether shall I go from thy spirit? This is him speaking to God. And whether shall I free from thy presence?
If I ascended to heaven, thou art there. If I make my bed in hell, behold thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall hold me. And surely the darkness shall cover me. Even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness heighteth not from thee, but the night shineth as the day and the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. He's saying, if I go to heaven, you're there. If I go to hell, David is saying, there's nowhere I can go to escape your presence, oh God. So if David can't go anywhere to escape his presence, then Satan and the demons can't go anywhere to escape. Meaning that God allows his presence and the Satan and the demonic realm to exist at the same time in the same space called our earth and our nice little dome we have. Now let's look. Some people say, again, demons and God can't be in the same place at the same time. You're ridiculous. You're ridiculous. You haven't read your Bible. Job one, verses six through 12. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord. Who? The sons of God, who are the sons of God? That's a reference to the angels in the Old Testament. So the angels come to present themselves before the Lord and Satan came. Everybody say, and Satan. And Satan. What? The angels are coming to present themselves before the Lord and Satan slips in among them. Where are they? Where's the Lord? Seated upon his throne in heaven. In the third heaven. And the Lord said unto Satan, whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord and said, from going to and fro in the earth. I like that. And walking up and down in it. And the Lord said unto Satan, hast thou considered my servant Job? That there is none like him in the earth. A perfect and upright man. One that feareth God and escheweth evil. Then Satan answered the Lord and said, doth Job fear God for naught? Hast naught thou made a hedge about him? And about his house and about all that he hath on every side? Thou has blessed the work of his hands and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now and touch all that he has and he will curse thee to thy faith. And the Lord said unto Satan, behold all that he hath is in thy power only upon himself put not thine hand, forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. From where? Well, wait a minute. You armchair theologians, I thought that Satan and demons couldn't be in the same place at the same time. Got too many armchair theologians is what we got. They know not what they speak. So this light and darkness thing, you know, like I made me a little Satan at the throne of God just illustrated.
You know, like it ain't gonna say, okay buddy, your time's up. It's time to move on. But this is the book of Job right here. This is what was happening. Satan was standing in the presence of the Lord at the throne with the holy angels making his petition and request for Job. So don't tell me Satan and demons can't be in the same place where the presence of God and the spirit of God. I mean, anybody say there might be a little bit of the glory and presence of God at the throne. Why would God do that, Pastor Dean? God allows Satan to exist and do what he's doing for this time period because he is allowing him to be the instrument to try and to test and to prove mankind who will serve God from the heart and who will serve Satan. He's allowing Satan to weed the world out. Now let's go to Solomon's Temple. What's that? The Wheat and the Tares, exactly. In the same field. Let's look at the temple, Solomon's Temple. Everybody remember this? This is an elaborate thing that was built here by Solomon. Took 46 years in building it. No, I'm sorry, that's the other temple. I can't remember how many years. Took a few years. But the dedication of the temple, and that's what we'll go to, I want you to see this, was in 964 BC under the time of Solomon. I want you to see this because the presence and glory of God comes down and fills Solomon's Temple at the dedication in 964 BC. And this is from 1 Kings 8, 6, and then 10 through 11. And the priest brought in the Ark of the covenant of the Lord unto his place, into the oracle of the house to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim. And it came to pass when the priest were come out from the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord. The cloud, what is the cloud? The manifestation of God's presence, his spirit, the Holy Spirit. The cloud descended and says, the priest could not stand to minister because of the cloud for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord. So Solomon obeys God, obeys his father's, David provided everything he needed and David provided the building plans that God gave him. And Solomon obeyed and built it. And Solomon was faithful in his early days. And Solomon prayed in the day of the dedication and the glory of God comes into the temple. Now, are we the temple of the Holy Ghost? When you're born again, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you. If you have not the spirit of Christ, you are none of his.
The Holy Spirit comes in you as salvation. Now there's a baptism, an infilling, an overflowing that comes that can come later. But we all receive the Holy Spirit in measure at salvation. So our temples receive the glory of God, the presence of God. Just like the temple. Not too many decades later, Second Chronicles 33, one through seven, the temple began to be defiled, meaning the wicked King Manasseh began to bring in idols, statues, paganism. Let's read this. Manasseh was 12 years old when he began to reign and he reigned 50 and five years in Jerusalem, but did that which was evil in the side of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel, where he built again the high places, which Hezekiah, his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baal and made groves and worshiped all the hosts to heaven and served them. Now this is bad enough, but Manasseh took it a step further than a lot of the kings did. It says also he built altars in the house of the Lord. This is the house of the Lord right here. We're not talking about the outer court. It says that King Manasseh, the evil son of Hezekiah, built altars inside of this house. Now if you build altars to pagan gods, to worship pagan gods, what are you inviting in here? Demons, exactly. It says he built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said in Jerusalem, shall be my name forever, and he built altars for all the hosts of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord. Everybody say in the two courts. That means out here and in here. See, the temple of Solomon and the tabernacle of Moses had three places. Had the outer court, that would be our body. Had the inner court or the holy place, which would be our soul. That's the place where they had the altar of incense and the showbread. But then there was the most holy place. There was the third compartment. And that was where the glory and the presence of God, that would be our spirit, okay? So here we have him. Somebody tell me, hey, listen to me. Somebody tell me, where's he putting these altars and these images outside the house? In the house. Has the glory of God left the house? Not yet. Oh, we got another type and shadow here, don't we? Paul, Kevin, Patrick, Trey. Another type and shadow, another example. All right, let's keep reading. It says that he caused his children
to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom. And he observed times and used enchantments and used witchcraft and dealt with the familiar spirit and with withers. And he wrought much evil on the side of the Lord to provoke him to anger. And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made in the house of God. Everybody shakes their head at Manasseh. But you do it. If you're born again Christian, full of the Holy Spirit, and you go pray to Mary, what'd you just do? You bow to a statue. You got a Buddha in your house. You're doing yoga, bowing to the sun every day. You're putting idol in the house. And if you put idol in the house, you put a demon in the house. It's the truth. Now let's look at the book of Ezekiel. We're going forward almost a hundred years past the time of Manasseh. And there had been times when the temple would be cleansed and times when it would be defiled again on and off and on and off and on and off. The glory of God never leaves until we see the Babylonian captivity. And I wanna show you what finally made God and his presence leave the temple, his temple. He put up with a lot of crap from a lot of people. He let his temple be defiled and he never left. And then in a picture of his mighty patience with you and me, how he comes in and his Holy Spirit dwells there and then we slip back into some sin or we fall or we backslide or we become lukewarm. And how God will stay with us and he'll try to get us to repent and he'll try to work with us. Patience. But if you don't repent, if you just leave it, just keep in sin and let the demons stay in your temple. Finally, one day, God's gonna leave. As they say, the Holy Spirit comes in like a whirlwind, but if he leaves, you'll never know him. Cause you'll be so far off by then you won't even grasp it. But this is Ezekiel 8, 3-6. Ezekiel says that God put forth the form of a hand and he took me by the lock of my head. He grabbed me by the hair. And the Spirit lifted me up between earth and the heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that look at toward the north whereas the seat of the image of jealousy which provokes to jealousy. So God brings Ezekiel to the temple in Jerusalem. He's in Babylonian captivity. God takes him in the spirit to Jerusalem, brings him to the door and he sees the idol set up at the door in the inner court there of jealousy. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there according to the vision that I saw in the plane.
Then he said unto me, Son of man lift up thine eyes now way toward the north. So I lifted up my eyes by way toward the north and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry. And he said further to me, he said, Son of man seeest thou what they do? Even the great abominations that the house of Israel committed here that I should go far off from my sanctuary but turn thee yet again and I will show you greater abominations. God saying I haven't left my house yet but I'm about to. But let me show you what they're doing in my house. Ezekiel 8, seven through 14 and he brought me to the door of the court. And when I looked behold, a hole in the wall and then he said unto me, Son of man dig now in the wall. And when I had digged in the wall behold the door and he said unto me go in and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. So I went in and saw and behold every form of creeping thing an abominable beast and all the idols of the house of Israel portrayed on the wall round about. They had put graffiti of their idols and their demons and the creeping things on God's temple. I don't know that might be folks getting these tattoos. Oh, I'll skip that for now. He said so they put their eyes. So what happens when you draw a symbol that's a demonic symbol? You bring a spirit to that point. We're gonna cover all this in the cursed objects in the days ahead. Well let's keep going. And he says in there stood before them 70 men of the ancients of the house of Israel and in the midst of them stood Jezaniya the son of Shefan. With every man his censer in his hand and a thick cloud of incense went up. And then he said unto me son of man hast thou seen with the ancients the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark every man of the chambers of his imagery. For they say the Lord seeth us not the Lord has forsaken the earth. He said also unto me turn thee yet again and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do. Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the Lord's house which was toward the north and beheld and behold there sat women weeping for Tamiz. Y'all know that's a 40 day time of weeping, fasting for the God Tamiz. That's what Lent is. You Roman Catholics don't even know that that's what that is. But Ezekiel 8, 15 through 16, he said if that wasn't enough a bunch of women here weeping for Tamiz in my court. Then he said unto me hast thou seen no son of man, turn thee yet again and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. And he brought me into the inner court. Everybody say inner court. Of the Lord's house and behold at the door of the temple of the Lord between the porch and the altar were about five and 20 men with their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east and they worshiped the sun toward the east.
They were worshiping the host of heaven that God told them to ever do that. Pagan worship, idolatry in the house of God meaning that uncleanness, spiritual uncleanness was in the house of God. This is Ezekiel 8. These give you a little idea why Jerusalem was destroyed just the four things here. There was an idol in the entrance of the temple. There were 70 elders worshiping reptiles and beasts. There were women praising Tamiz, 25 men worshiping the sun. That's what yoga is. Yoga, every position in yoga, folks, is a bow to the sun God. I don't care if you call it exercise but they're doing it in churches now all over the place. You are worshiping the sun and it's not the sun of God. You're worshiping the sun and it's demonic and it's opening doorways to demons. Here's a little schematic that somebody did showing where these different things were. The women weeping for Tamiz, the animal images on the wall, the 25 men worshiping the sun. This is just showing you that God tolerated demonic defilement in his temple for a long time before his presence and glory left. The glory of God leaves in chapter 10. I mean, we see this. Ezekiel sees the glory and the presence of the Lord within his temple in Ezekiel 8.4. The glory of God is seen at the doorway of the temple in 9.3. He's starting to move out and the next the doorway moves and he moves onto the eastern gate. God leaves. The presence of God leaves. You keep on wanting to sin. You keep on wanting to let your demons dwell in you and have a heyday in your life. Eventually, God will leave. Just ask the story of Esau in Hebrews 12. Now let's go to another Old Testament example here. Everybody see that? Everybody get the point I was making with the Temple of Solomon? Now let's look at this. Remember Old Testament? What examples to us? Types and shadows, right? This is gonna be a little long today. We got a little bit more to do. We're gonna look at Saul here. This is 1 Samuel 10.1. It says, then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head, Saul, who became king Saul of the tribe of Benjamin, and kissed him and said, is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance? So Saul is anointed to be king, handpicked by God to be king, because he's humble. In the beginning, he was humble. Godly young man. 1 Samuel chapter 10 verses six and nine through 11 says, then the Spirit of the Lord, is what Samuel said to him. And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee and thou shalt prophesy with them the prophets that he was gonna run into.
Now listen to this. Samuel says, and thou shalt be turned into another man. Now folks, if a prophet tells you that the Holy Spirit is gonna come upon you and it's gonna turn you into another man, well, doesn't that sound New Testament? That sounds New Testament to me. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. All things have passed away. Behold, all things become new. You may all prophesy one by one, as Paul said. There you go, you become a new man. Then he goes on and says, and it was so that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel that God gave him another heart. Why doesn't that sound New Testament? I will give them a new heart. To know me, says the Lord. This is good stuff. So the Spirit of the Lord comes upon Saul. God turns him into another man, gives him another heart. A true type shadow picture of our salvation experience. Receiving the Holy Spirit as we're saved and then baptizing the Holy Spirit. And it says that all those signs came to pass that day when they came thither to the hill. Behold, a company of prophets met him and the Spirit of God came upon him and Saul prophesied among them. And it came to pass when all that knew him before saw that. They said, behold, he prophesied among the prophets. Then the people said one to another, what is this that is coming to the son of Kish? It's all among the prophets. It was such a transformation that everybody was, boy, doesn't that look at somebody? That's the way it was when I got saved. Everybody was like, whoa, what has happened to Dean Odell? He doesn't want to drink beer anymore. He doesn't want to fight anymore. He don't want to go to bars anymore. What has happened? God turned me into another man and gave me another heart. Spirit of God came upon me and filled me, changed my life. Sounds very similar, doesn't it? Didn't take very long. In fact, I've looked at this. It was about a year later that Samuel gave Saul a job to do and he didn't do it, he disobeyed. And then it was such a serious, now listen to this. It was to go and destroy the Amalekites. Listen to me closely on this. The job he was given was to go kill all the Amalekites, men, women, children, everything. Everybody thinks that God is genocidal and that's crazy. No, the Amalekites were the descendants of the giants, the Nephilim. So again, what God is telling Saul to do is to finish what Israel didn't do a long time ago and drive out the demons out of their land. Saul doesn't do it. There's a lot of people I know I've told go through deliverance and they don't do it. Well, that's gonna be on you.
But let's keep reading. This is 1 Samuel 15.23. God tells Saul to not do this, to not deal with your demons, to not obey, to disobey God and not deal and drive the demons out of your land. He goes on to say, for rebellion is the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. You've been told to cleanse your land but you don't do it. You're in rebellion and you might as well be a practicing witch. And if you're a practicing witch, what are you doing? You're opening doors too. And if you're in idolatry, you're opening doors too. Exactly. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry because thou has rejected the word of the Lord. He has also rejected thee from being king. That's pretty serious. First Samuel 16, then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him anointing David when he went to pick the new king. And the spirit Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Rama. But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. Now some people say, oh, well he was just oppressed. Really? I'd say it's probably a little more when you start picking up javelins to kill people. But let's just keep reading. And it came to pass when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul that David took a harp and played with his hand. And so Saul was refreshed and was well. And the evil spirit departed from him. I hate to say that this is what happens. This is what church is for a lot of folks. A lot of folks go through all their week tormented and controlled by demons because they have so many open doors and they won't drive them out. They won't cleanse the house. They won't cast them out. They won't deal with sin and the demons. And so though they'll come to church though and they'll worship with the music. They'll worship God. They'll hear the word of God and they'll feel a little better. And then they go back to the same old habits and issues all week long. This is what happened. This is why so many people struggle with the same things for so long. And church and worship and religious activity just becomes kind of a band-aid on a gunshot wound. It never really fixes it, never really heals it. First Samuel 18, 10 through 12. And it says that it came to pass on the morrow that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul. And he prophesied in the midst of the house and David played with his hand as at other times. And there was a javelin in Saul's hand. And Saul cast the javelin for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice and Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him and was departed from Saul. See, this is a picture folks. If it's a type in shadow when Saul was turned into another man, given another heart and the Holy Spirit came upon him and the gifts of the spirit began to work through him. But because he wouldn't deal with the Amalekites, the demons, the descendants of the giants,
he wouldn't deal with that. Guess what? He became afflicted, tormented and possessed and controlled by one of their spirits, one of the evil spirits. So much so that he had hatred and fear and murder, not just in his mind and in his heart, but he was acting upon them. Come on, Christian. One thing if it's in your mind and your heart, that's bad enough. But if you're acting on it already, you're being controlled. You're being controlled. Better get free. Where did King Saul end up? Right before his death, God would not speak to him anymore. Don't tell me I can't hear from God. I don't hear from God. Maybe you need to repent. Maybe you need to get rid of the demons that are blocking you from hearing God. This is why people end up in occult stuff. Horoscopes, Ouija boards, fortune tellers. God's not talking to him. Let me tell you, if Jesus is talking to you and Jesus said, my sheep will hear my voice. They will know me. I know my sheep. They'll hear my voice. They'll follow me. Holy Spirit will come. He'll speak to you. He'll show you things to come. If he's not, something's wrong. Something is wrong. And then what people do to fill that spiritual void when God's not talking to him and ministering to him, what they'll do is they end up with, you know, horoscopes and Ouija boards and yoga and everything else. Meditation, Buddhist meditation, blanking the mind, chanting, ohm and all this stuff they do. That's why so many Christians are substituting. I mean, we know Christians, my wife and I, we know Christians that are going back to like the Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox Church because they've got this idolatry to worship icons and statues and they have a spiritual experience. Well, why are they hungering after an idolatrous pagan experience? It's because the Holy Spirit is not talking to them because at some point they chose to disobey and they won't deal with the demon strongholds in them. And so it's a snare to them. You will end up, a lot of people end up after this, they end up dead. I'm convinced to this day that my mom, before she got saved, my mom, I led my mom to the Lord in 1987, December, right after Christmas, 1987, I led my mom to the Lord. Well, 1986, my mom went to the doctor feeling fine and they found a tumor the size of my fist in her chest. She had Hodgkin's, had cancer and it was so serious. They said had she waited just a few weeks longer, she would have been dead because it would have went through her whole body. So my mom had to have chemotherapy, radiation and this is before I'm following the Lord, she's not following the Lord, she's drinking and partying and smoking and just living like a haven.
Well, why am I getting to this? I'm convinced, cancer does not run in my family. So it wasn't a hereditary thing. And I thought, why did, I thought a long time ago, I said, why did my mom get cancer and nearly die from cancer? And the Lord spoke to me and said that from the time I was a little boy, even before we lived in California, I lived in California when I was in third grade for a year, but I remember my mom and my aunt, my uncle, who was a cop right outside of San Francisco, I remember the two of them constantly when we lived in California, going to fortune tellers and mediums. And then I remember, my mom even got a word of prophecy from a fortune teller that basically she would divorce my dad and marry someone that they described and it was eventually became described in detail. My stepdad, that was never supposed to happen. And I am convinced that my mom opened the door to this demon of cancer and death in her life because of her continual disobedience. Now she got to say, she went through chemotherapy and radiation and my aunts, my great aunts and my great grandmother, I've told the story, they prayed for her. Sometimes my grandma would stay up all night interceding for God to have mercy upon her and heal her that she would not die. But my mom, oh, she loved horoscopes and psychics and mediums and honestly, we never, I never, even though I talked to her about it, she would never, after she got saved, and she got saved and she started walking with the Lord, she didn't do that stuff anymore, but she would never deal with the demons in her life. And I believe that's another reason that we lost her early there and then we should. But I know she made it to heaven, but not a good situation. Now let's go to this story. Matthew 15, verses 21 through 24, I'm almost at the end today. We're almost there. I hope you guys can stay with me there watching. It's important. We're going back to the New Testament here. This is the story of the Canaanite woman or the Syrophoenician woman that came to Jesus asking for deliverance for her daughter, for demons to be cast out of her daughter. Now let's read this. Matthew 15, 21 through 24, then Jesus went thence and departed into the coast of Tyre and Sidon. This is two cities of pagan, heathen, not Israelites, outside the covenant, Gentiles. And says, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coast and cried unto them saying, have mercy on me, oh Lord, the son of David. My daughter is grievously vexed with the devil. But he answered her not a word. This story better get your attention.
What is this woman asking for? Deliverance. She's asking for Jesus to cast the demons out of her daughter. She's begging him, have mercy on me, son of David. She's even recognizing that he is the Messiah. Have mercy, help us. Now for those out there that think, oh yeah, cast demons out of the unsaid, not what Jesus did. Remember Jesus, this is before the cross, before the resurrection. Jesus is operating under the old covenant. So he doesn't answer her a word. Because what does Jesus know? I can't do this. And probably his heart was torn because he wants to help the woman. But he can't because if he casts the demons out of her daughter, she's gonna end up worse. What he's gotta do is get this woman saved. And that's why he ignores her. It's amazing if God, a lot of times God ignores people so they'll get desperate and really seek him. A lot of times we're just seeking him for relief from our problem. He wants us to seek him until we're saved, until we're born again, until we repent. Not just until he fixes our problem. Amen. So he didn't answer a word and his disciples came and besought him saying, send her away. She cried after us. And then Jesus said this statement. But he answered and said, I am not sent but into the lost sheep of the house of Israel. So what he's saying was, I can't do these things, especially deliverance, casting out, unless you are in Israelite, unless you are under the blood covenant, unless you are a child of God, I cannot do this for you. Everybody see that. But this woman changes the equation. So she went from just asking for her need to be met. A lot of people just want Jesus to help him. Help him out of a financial situation. Help him out of a sickness. Help him out of a jam of the kids. But Jesus doesn't answer her word. He's gonna find out. I'm gonna find out how sincere she is. I'm gonna find out if she wants me for me. So I'm gonna keep walking. Listen, sometimes I do that. Sometimes I ignore people. Just see if they'll pursue it. I have people all the time saying, I want you to disciple me. Okay, you know what I do? Just keep walking. I'll see if they wanna be discipled. They'll start following. They'll start pestering me and asking questions. And you know, I'm not gonna chase them after them. But then came she and worshiped him, saying Lord help me. She worshiped him. Now what, her worshiping him. See, she says have mercy on me son of David. That's easy. We can say, oh okay Jesus, you're the son of David. You're a descendant. You're a man. I can acknowledge that you're the man part of the Messiah.
But when she comes in, she worships him. Only God is to be worshiped. And she worships him. And that's the point where she is declaring, okay, I submit, you are God. You're the creator. I'm gonna worship you. You ignored me. You know, a lot of women would get their panties in a wad and get upset. And yes, I said it. Worst thing you can do to a woman that's got an attitude is ignore her. They actually want you to fuss, right? That's the worst thing you can do. Women hate being ignored. I'd rather talk for 12 hours, not be ignored though. But this woman didn't get offended. See, this is the key. She didn't get offended with Jesus. Gave her an opportunity though. He's kept walking. And then she comes and she worships him. She says, okay Lord, you're God. I worship you. You know what's best. Even though you ignored me, I'm still here. Somebody says, some of you, you give up too soon. You don't get God to answer you the first time you ask or you give up. Oh, God's not answering my prayer. No, he didn't want to see persistence. Well, this'll preach all day long. But Jesus made a statement that's probably one of the most important in the New Testament concerning the deliverance ministry. He answered and said to her, it is not meat or it is not right to take the children's bread and cast it to dogs. Oh, good Lord, he just went from it. One offending action to an offending statement. These snowflakes today would have a meltdown. He said, it's not right to take the children's bread. What are we discussing in the entire context of this passage? Deliverance for her daughter, the casting of demons out of her daughter. And Jesus calls the deliverance ministry, casting demons out of people, the children's bread. It doesn't belong to the unsafe. It's not for them. You could give it to them and they can't even maintain it. He said, deliverance is for the children's bread. It's the children's bread. Don't give it to the unsafe. They can't keep the demons out. And she said, truth, Lord. And the word dogs, and let me back up. The word dogs was a term used for the Gentiles. Those outside the covenant. So Jesus said, I can't take the children's bread, deliverance, the casting out of demons, and give it to those outside the covenant. Can't do it. Not because he doesn't want to, it just wouldn't work.
And she said, truth, Lord. Well, I love that. The best thing to do when God tells you something in the scriptures, or he speaks to you, they say, yeah, you're right. Truth. Then she says this, yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table. Meaning, I'll just take the crumbs. Humility. Not allowing yourself to get offended and upset at God. So many people are upset at God. They're not upset at preachers, they're upset at God. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, woman, great is thy faith. Can I say that Jesus never said this about his own apostles? He said, oh, woman, great is thy faith. And what does it take to be saved? Grace and faith. So at the moment this great faith brought her, what faith is she talking about? Faith in him. Faith in his wisdom. Faith that he is God, she worshiped him. And he says, woman, great is thy faith. So that moment, that Gentile woman went from being outside the covenant to in the covenant by faith. Because remember, even Ruth the Moabitez decided that she was not gonna be a Moabitez anymore. She was gonna come in to the faith of the Jews. And her action was leaving her people and leaving her idols and leaving her gods and going with Naomi into the land of the Jews even in the time of famine. He says, great is thy faith. Be it unto thee, even as thou wilt and her daughter was made whole from that very hour. The difference is the children's bread. It is for Christians, born again Christians who are really living the life and for them only. Now there are, I said last week, there's a couple of exceptions where I will cast demons out of an unsaved person. And they're extreme exception. Number one is if a person is completely demon possessed like the Gatorine Demoniac, fully manifesting, not in their right man, you can't even talk to them. I will cast the demons out of them so that they can get a moment of sanity and freedom and peace to hopefully accept Jesus. I've done that for people and they've chosen to not accept Jesus and they have gone back into worse. But that should be very, very rare. And then of course I've done it for children. Children you can pray over. You just have to have the parent's permission and the parent's faith. You say, well that child's not saved yet. Well child, until they reach the age of accountability, they're innocent and they are under God's salvation and under his covenant. So you can cast demons out of small children but you have to have their parent's permission and faith.
Other than those two exceptions, you do not cast demons out of an unsaved person. I fought this battle for a long time. Let me give you one more picture and then we'll go. And again, that's why it says when the unclean spirit's gone out of a man, he walked through dry places seeking rest. He finally done his side, returned to my house and the house is empty, swept in garden. You just can't do it. You cast demons out of somebody and the house is empty. He's coming back with seven more. But look at the story of Lazarus and I'm gonna finish with this one. If you want another picture of deliverance. Lazarus was made alive but he was still bound. Let's read this, John 11 41 through 44. Then took, they away the stone. Jesus told him, take away the stone. Lazarus had been dead four days. He says, they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid and Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, Father I thank thee that thou has heard me and I knew that thou hears me always. But because of the people which stand by I said it that they may believe that thou has sent me. And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus come forth. And he that was dead came forth bound hand and foot with grave clothes and his face was bound about with a napkin and Jesus saith to them, Loose him and let him go. Well, if you ever had a picture of salvation but then the need for deliverance, you have it in this story. Now this story was real. This was an actual story, this was an actual event. But Jesus again, he was always teaching. There's always multiple layers of teaching and illustration. So Jesus comes in, the guy's dead. Doesn't the Bible say in Ephesians two that we are dead in trespasses and sins before we get saved. And what happens at salvation is literally our dead spirit that's separated from the life of God. When we believe the gospel, when we believe the cross, when we believe the blood, when we believe the resurrection, it says the Holy Spirit comes in and we are quickened. We are made alive, spiritually alive. We're reconnected with God. So salvation is a resurrection of a dead spirit that's separated from God. It's resurrected to life and the life of Christ comes in. But so many, just like Lazarus, Lazarus came out of the grave. Listen, he didn't walk out of there. Think about this folks, the power of God. When Jesus said, Lazarus come forth, Lazarus was bound up like a mummy. He didn't walk out of there. He didn't hop out of there. The power of God that raised him from the dead through Jesus' words, literally not only raised him back to life and caused his decomposing body to be made new, it snatched him out of that grave and stood him up in front of the grave. Now you would say, okay, if the power of God's that strong to raise him from the dead, to fix his decomposing body
and give him a new body again and to snatch him out of the grave, stand it up. Why didn't Jesus just snatch the grave clothes off? Why didn't Jesus just go poof, grave clothes gone? Teaching you a lesson, teaching me a lesson. He tells the people standing beside, loose him and let him go. He saved, he's alive, he's resurrected. He's made new, but he's still bound up. That's Christians right there. So, so many. If you've never been through a thorough deliverance process and dealt with all of your pasts from childhood on up, every single sin, every single doorway, then this is you. You might be saved, you might be born again, you might be alive in Christ, but you're still bound by Satan, by demons, by the grave clothes of death. I hope today I've answered your questions. Can a Christian have a demon? Absolutely. As I heard one preacher years ago say, a Christian can have whatever they like. You want more of God, you can have that. You want healing, you can have that. You want freedom, you can have that, but there's a way you gotta walk to get it. There's things you have to do, there's a place you have to go, there's scriptures you have to get in you, there's things you have to speak, there's things you have to believe, there's actions you gotta take. Christianity is not sitting a passive thing. You don't just sit there and do nothing. So, I think I've covered enough today, don't you think? Well, Pastor Dean, you know, if you missed last week, folks, go back and listen to last week. This week, I can't cover everything. I've done an hour and a half. I can't cover everything. Next week, we're gonna cover the doorways, the openings, the things that we open, and I'm gonna give you a lot of examples, and I'm gonna go through the process of how to do deliverance, and a lot of you are not gonna be able to find someone to help you, so you're gonna have to do self deliverance, and we'll talk about all of that, but this is so vitally important that we learn how to fight demons and get free from them. I tell people all the time, going through deliverance is not the answer to all your problems. You're still going to have the flesh to deal with. You're still going to have the demons attacking and tempting you from the outside, but you know, I'm an old fighter. Trey, you know about this. Old street fighter. Now, let me say, this is why we always used to say, let's take this outside,
because if it was inside and it really got on, it was gonna tear up all kind of stuff, right? Well, let me tell you, any fight you're gonna have, if you're gonna fight demons, it's a lot better that they be outside your house than in your house. Makes the fight a whole lot easier. Still a fight, mind you, but fighting them outside of your temple is better than trying to fight them constantly inside, because they're hiding in closets and under the beds and you think you got one whip and it jumps out. Well, I hope you learned something. We're gonna sing a song before we leave this one, I hope. We don't have the words. That's all right. If you don't know the words, you just worship for a minute. Fair use, Facebook, fair use, YouTube. We claim fair use, but this song is a good song to close out the day. This is Zach Williams and is it Song of Deliverance? Huh? Songs of Deliverance. So let's stand and sing this and worship the Lord and then we'll be dismissed this morning. Those of you watching and listening, sing along with us. You may know it. It's an easy song to catch on to, but it's just talking about getting free in Jesus' name. Amen? Just forget it. I don't know what in the world's going on. That's horrible. They'll be able to please you today.
We thank you, Lord, for deliverance. We thank you for freedom that we can find in the name of Jesus and through walking into your word and doing what you instruct us to do. While I ask you to bless your people, those that have been watching and listening, those that are here today, Lord, we thank you that we can be delivered and set free, that there is hope for Christians out there struggling. There's hope and there's a way. So we thank you for it in Jesus' name we pray. Amen and amen. All right, before we dismiss this morning, just a couple of announcements.
