we're admitting lord that we are hungry and thirsty lord for you for your presence we know god that you can open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there's not room enough to receive or you can open the windows of heaven and step down and manifest your presence and your power in such a way god that you revive your church you revive us where we're dry and struggling where we're dead where we're we're not as passionate and alive as we should be and and you can also move upon the lost and upon the backslidden and lord god we've seen god as we read your word we've seen great times where your presence has come down and brought conviction of sin and you've opened eyes to see that jesus died on the cross for for for sin and that he rose from the dead and that he's the only way and the only hope and the only savior and the only one in this world worth following and worth obeying and lord god you made that so real to people that thousands thousands god on the day of pentecost fell to their knees under conviction and repented and were baptized and came to know jesus as their lord and savior and they were filled with the holy spirit baptized in the spirit and spoke in other tongues lord you've done great and mighty things god you've done great revivals down through history great revivals great moves of the spirit where you where you opened heaven and poured out your spirit lord and thousands upon thousands even hundreds of thousands were saved in in finney's revivals lord god in with wesley and lord we just we know god what you are capable of the azusa street revival or the welsh revival lord god the mighty brownsville revival lord nothing is too hard for you and lord so we pray now for our city and for our region and for oh lord god this place for auburn and opalica in this region we're praying god for true revival to come for you to step down and show your mighty hand in power lord to convict hearts to open blind eyes to break off chains to set captives free father in the mighty name of jesus we ask you to anoint us we ask you to stir us to pray we ask you to stir us the fast we ask you to stir us lord to to turn loose of every thing in this world and to truly make you and your kingdom and your gospel the priority in our lives father we pray that this morning in jesus name amen and amen i don't know about y'all but i felt that this morning amen hallelujah
how many of you know that it's the truth the absolute truth that the church of jesus christ is supposed to carry on the ministry of jesus christ i don't know why this is a foreign concept to most of the church world right he came to teach us what to do how to do it to be an example can i ask this question is jesus our example or not you see the church either acts like the pharisees and the sadducees or we act like jesus okay let me give you one example since we're going to be talking about demons today and casting out demons the pharisees sat in the religious authority and religious power they were the church of the day and let's understand something okay as we get into this study everybody wants to say well that was old testament this was new testament there are people that want to argue well jesus was operating under the old covenant i wonder how jesus who had the spirit of god without measure was operating under the old covenant we'll talk about that in a minute okay but the bottom line is jesus came to establish what the new covenant right but let's just understand something that the old covenant was still a covenant with god amen it was a blood covenant it was a covenant of faith and obedience to god it was a covenant that looked forward to the messiah coming the new covenant of course now with the better sacrifice of jesus on the cross we have a better covenant with better promises i'm not saying that but the bottom line is both covenants were fundamentally the same god wanted his children to love him and obey him and to do that to be forgiven and cleansed of your sin you had to bring animal sacrifices blood sacrifices and you had to obey god and exercise faith in god it was the same principle god was training his people for the day when the messiah the lamb of god jesus christ would come and shed his blood on the cross that's what egypt was about that's why they had to kill a lamb and put the blood on the doorpost so the death angel would pass over all that was foreshadowing what jesus would come and do okay but let's just remember god almighty has not changed from old testament to new testament okay let's just get that down to deal with sin you have to repent you had to repent in the old covenant you have to repent in the new covenant you have to you had to
have been covered by the blood in the old covenant you had to be covered by the blood in the new covenant amen god has not changed that's why the scripture says and we may turn there in just a second but first corinthians chapter 10 when it talks about them in the wilderness with moses it says there that they did all eat the same spiritual meat and they all drank the same spiritual drink because that rock that followed them was christ this is what we've got to get down in us that the mystery of the gospel of jesus christ is spoken of in the book of revelation when it talks about the lamb of god who was slain before the foundation of the world what see we have got to grasp this concept and quit going well that's old covenant this is new covenant no it's god that's why the verse that little ian here memorized this week about all scripture is given by inspiration of god and is profitable for doctrine for correction for instruction the reason that that is important is because within god almighty everything is accomplished before the foundation of the world see in him you have to understand this in god there is no such thing as time okay he is y'all understand what i'm saying see for him you know the bible says that the worlds were formed by by what basically by god's faith right hebrews chapter 11. see god so believes that what he says is going to happen is going to happen when he says it that it's already done you get what i'm saying because he ain't going to fail right so the lamb was slain before the foundation of the world that's why i believe that christ is god jesus christ is god he is eternal he is not a created being he did not have an origin he is an eternal part of the godhead right and we know that that the bible tells us that jesus appeared to abraham as melchizedek and sat down and preached the gospel to him because in john chapter 8 it says that abraham saw my day jesus said the book of galatians tells us the gospel was preached to abraham now i could go down this list i'm just bringing this up because we've got to we've got to get rid of these ideas that it's old covenant new covenant and that old covenant has nothing to say to us no let me remind you that the apostles now think about this y'all the apostles of our lord jesus christ peter james john thomas matthew all of them did they have a new testament when they
preach the gospel to the world no because you know what it is what the new testament is it's it's what they preach to the world it's a record of what god gave them after the resurrection but many years later so for those first 20 30 years do you know what they used to preach jesus to the world the old testament my god we've got churches now this basically says it's obsolete we can't learn anything from it that's old testament don't preach out of that don't teach out of that it's all nonsense we need it all amen did not jesus say that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of god right matthew 4 luke 4 he said that well you know where he was quoting that from deuteronomy right isn't that amazing matter of fact when the devil was tempting jesus and attacking him in the wilderness every scripture jesus quoted was old testament that's funny you know why because there wasn't any such thing as the new testament but yet the word of god was powerful enough to resist the devil face to face amen does everybody say this the old testament is the word of god amen and it's still powerful amen we learn many things from the old testament we learn many things that are principles in the old testament that show us pictures of the new testament now that's very important in many things you have to remember that much of the new testament is just the old testament quoted okay now as we get into this today i want everybody you know we said you know that the church and i stated this in the beginning that the church is supposed to carry on the ministry of jesus right well let's look at that now when jesus came to minister what did he do what did he do jesus came to minister he did mainly three things all right let me give you the three things jesus did in his ministry all right three things jesus did in his ministry number one is he taught the word of god he taught people the word of god actually i believe you could say jesus teaching ministry was his number one priority to teach the word of god to train and make disciples so that they could carry on his ministry his work when he left i'll show you that in a second this is vitally important because there's whole sections of the church
today that say that after the apostles that healing ceased and deliverance ceased casting out devils and miracles ceased and and the the gifts of the holy spirit ceased and this is all nonsense because that would contradict the very purpose of god and what jesus said that the church was supposed to carry on and it contradicts many scriptures but that is why the church world is not doing what it's supposed to be doing that's why they look more like the pharisees than jesus did the pharisees go out and heal people did the pharisees cast out demons did the pharisees teach the whole truth of god's word did they did they put their commandments of men and traditions of men above the word of god did they fight the true servants of god what's that sound like see jesus came casting out demons and healing the sick and teaching the whole truth of god's word and what did they do to him they attacked him they criticized him they said he was casting out devils by bills above they said he was healing by the power of the devil they said he was a sabbath breaker that he was a glutton that he was cursed that he was crazy oh i've been called all those things but it's funny that my life not perfect and i'm not trying to say i'm perfect i've made my mistakes and sins but i'm saying this that my ministry for 25 years has been about what trying to teach the whole truth of god's word healing the sick see i've seen some great miracles god do great miracles of healing just a few here but seeing god do some great miracles of healing but it's been a lot of casting out demons for 25 years and i have been criticized lied about slandered i've even heard of some recently it's amazing some of the things that are lied about which is probably one of the reasons a lot of people won't come to our church because they've heard some rumors some lie some slander but guess what if you're going to preach the whole gospel of jesus christ you're going to preach the word you're going to preach the word that they don't like you're going to preach against the commandments of men and the doctrines of men that rule these denominational churches and you're going to talk about healing the sick and casting out demons and speaking in tongues and operating in prophecy and operating in visions and if you're going to do that you are going to be looked at by them as crazy you're going to be criticized you're going to be called demonic you're going to be called you're operating on power the you you have to see the pharisee sadduceeical whatever you want to call it denominational christian world out there they're going to attack you just like they attack jesus and the apostles
there's no getting along with them okay you understand that we can love them we can try to share things with them and we should and some will listen once in a while but the bottom line is they're either going to choose to be like the pharisees and the sadducees or they're going to choose to be like jesus so this is what we got to choose and that's why this is an important subject now let's just look at a few verses because they try [Music] they try to teach again this go to matthew 28 this is after jesus's crucifixion and resurrection and after he appeared to them for forty days right before he ascended to heaven everybody with me i'll tell you what i feel the anointing of god today on this so pay attention pay close attention deuteronomy i mean uh deuteronomy matthew 28 i got deuteronomy 28 on my mind but matthew 28 let's verse look at verse 16. it says then the 11 disciples went away into galilee into a mountain where jesus had appointed them and when they saw him they worshipped him but some doubted and that amazing of the eleven still some were doubting and jesus came and spake unto them and saying all power or the greek word is exusia there's really two words for power we see two main words in the new testament one is exusia and the other is dunamis exusia is the right or the authority okay the ability dunamis is the actual power that carries it out a good example of that is a police officer i've shared this before but i'll share it again a police officer carries two things that gives him power number one is his badge that's his authority that identifies him his uniform his badge that's his right okay that's his that that that's his symbol of his authority that he has the right to do that he's backed up by the government by the city by the authorities but his power his dunamis would be his gun see what i'm saying sometimes now all he has to do is by that badge say something and people will obey it because they respect the authority but those who don't respect the authority had to get the power okay so that's the two words we deal with exusia and dunamis you'll see them used interchangeably at times and sometimes it's a significant issue but dunamis is the word that means miraculous power okay let me just say this do you know that the bible says just just a side note that casting out a demon is a miracle did y'all know that
jesus equated casting a demon out as a miracle i'll we'll look at that in a minute but jesus said this verse 18 all power or authority is given unto me in heaven and earth then he says go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost now look at verse 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever i have commanded you and lo i am with you always even unto the end of the world now see this is something that's very important because jesus said i've been all power and authority has been given unto me in heaven and earth now i'm sending you and i'm sending you to teach people to observe all things hear me all things that i commanded you what did jesus command the apostles to do did he command them to wait until they were filled with the holy ghost did he command them to be filled with the holy ghost did he command them to cast out demons heal the sick cleanse the lepers raise the dead and preach the gospel so whatever he commanded them they were to go forth and to teach everyone else the same thing i don't understand why the pharisees and the sadducees or i could say the baptist method presbyterian you hear what i'm saying why they don't address these things all things all right now go with me to luke 22. i'm sorry y'all i love them but you know what all is fair and loving war isn't it they want to criticize us i can criticize them they want to criticize me for casting demons out i can criticize them for not casting them out amen they want to criticize me for believing in healing i can criticize them for being dead and dry and in unbelief amen they want to call me a nut i can call them a pharisee you know what i'm saying call a spade a spade right love them know some of them mean well some of them love god with all their hearts they've been taught wrong they've been deceived they've been lied to they don't read their bibles for themselves and they're locked into doctrines of men and here's the problem you know some of those doctrines of men are going to damn people's soul to hell but some of those doctrines of men are just going to leave people bound up with demon spirits and sicknesses and disease and things that they don't have to have because jesus came and paid the price and he's given us authority
in his name to help people all right now let's look at this i told you to turn to luke 22 right this is right before jesus went to to be crucified he was um this is the the last supper as some call it and i'm trying to find my spot here all right here we go let's go over to verse 24. and he says there was also this is during the last supper he says there was also a strife among them which of them should be accounted the greatest and he said unto them the kings of the gentiles exercise lordship over them and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors but ye shall not be so but he that is great among you let him be as the younger and he that is chief as he that doth serve for whether is greater he that sitteth it but either him that he that serveth or he that serveth is not he that sitteth at me but i am among you as one that serveth now look at verse 28 he said you are they which have continued with me in my temptations and my trials he said i appoint unto you a kingdom as my father hath appointed unto me now this is important that you grasp this when jesus said i appoint unto you a kingdom as or just like my father appointed me it's interesting the word here in the greek the word appoint you know what it means the channel of an act so what he's saying here is just like my father channeled the kingdom through me i'm going to channel it through you everybody see that let me show you something else everybody knows this verse come here marlene you're gonna be my my helper everybody knows this verse you know the verse i want you to stand on that piece of paper rather we're gonna let marlene be jesus for a minute [Music] all right everybody knows the verse in john 14 right i go to prepare a place for you right now we've all thought that's jesus going up to heaven to build us mansions now the bible says jesus went up to heaven and seated at the right hand of the father never lives to make intercession for us i don't believe he's building mansions because see we missed something here when jesus said i go to prepare a place for you he wasn't
talking about building mountains when jesus was on earth he was standing in the place and the authority of god he was the channel or the riverbed of the kingdom of god okay he didn't i just read that to you my father appointed me a kingdom or channeled through me a kingdom what did jesus say when he said what he came preaching repentance he said the kingdom of god has come none unto you he said and we'll look at it in a second in matthew 12 he said if i cast out demons by the spirit of god then the kingdom of god has come nigh unto you and he talked about the kingdom of god the kingdom of god is what god was doing through jesus the teaching of the word the preaching of the word the the ministry of healing the ministry of casting out demons but when jesus said i go to prepare a place for you what did he what was he saying he was the channel he was the act so he was telling the apostles and he was telling the church in the future i'm going to prepare a place for you see while jesus was on the earth i could i couldn't be in his place go you can go back i said he goes back to heaven he let he go he went to prepare me a place so i could do it you see our thinking is wrong i think jesus up there building mansions no he's not he left so we could do he left us his spot on the earth all right that's what he's saying here i'm going to channel my kingdom through you just like my father channeled it through me and if you have any doubts of that look what jesus said in john 14 12. everybody all know this this is this is an important verse to remember you will be tested on this so put a star by it matter of fact all of this this is part of the class you better take good notes john 14 12. now see we can read verse 1 and then verse 12 makes more sense now that you know that right all right because look i can prove it that jesus is not building mansions because he tells you they're already there look at verse 1. john 14 verse 1 he says let your heart let not your heart be troubled you believe in god believe also in me in my father's house are many mansions wait a minute they're already there in my father's house are many mansions if it were not so i would have told you i go to prepare a place for you and if i go and prepare a place for you i will come again and receive you unto myself that where i am there you may be also see the promise was i'm going to
give you a place of authority and power on the earth to channel my kingdom through but i'm going to come back and get you i'm not leaving you i'm going to come back and get you right now that that makes sense now we go on down and we read verse 14. i'm sorry not 14 verse 12. and then this makes sense verily verily i say unto you he that believeth on me the works that i do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do because i go into my father what is he saying he's saying whoever believes on me so did that limit it to just the apostles did that limit it to the first century absolutely not but he confirms what i just got through saying to you because what does he say he said verily when i say to you he that believeth on me the works that i do shall he do also so the same kingdom works everybody think the same kingdom works that jesus did he said he that believes on me will do these and greater works why because i'm stepping out of the way so that the whole church can do this not just one not just 11. think about that all right so is there any question now if there's not let's go to mark chapter 16. mark 16. everybody all know this this is good stuff let's start reading in verse 14. so this is new testament christianity this is what i always mess with the with the jehovah witnesses when they come to my door because even in their new world translation mark 16 here about 14 through 20 it's in there it's in their bible right and so i get them to turn to it they're standing at the front door i get them to turn to it and we read this all right but i'm just going to say what i pick on the jehovah witnesses a little bit when they come to the door with this but i can pick on baptist too methodist presbyterian lutheran any of them that say this nonsense that the church is supposed to be dead and powerless and that's the way jesus left us is ridiculous well here's what it says let's look at verse 14. and afterward he appeared jesus appeared unto the eleven as they said it meet and he upgraded them now that's a nice king james word for saying that he basically
blessed them out for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen and you know why he was so angry with him about not believing is because he told them i'm going to die and three days later i'm going to rise again he told him that on more than one occasion and so when people came reporting it they still didn't believe so he didn't like that but look at what he said verse 15 and he said to them here's the command go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned and these signs shall follow them that believe in my name they shall cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues they shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover and so then after the lord had spoken unto them he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of god not in building mansions and they went forth and preached everywhere the lord working with them confirming the word with signs following all right now the first thing jesus said what these signs shall follow them that believe now here's the thing they're a bunch of liberal nuts out there and theologians that say that mark 9 through through 20 or whatever is not supposed to be in the bible guess what who you going to believe either we got god's word today or we don't right i believe we have it does this contradict anything that jesus has already said did he not say the works that i do he shall do also so what are they going to do throw out john 14 2 right didn't he say the works i do you shall do also and even greater works because i'm getting out of the way and letting you have my spot right why is that see jesus here's here's one guess what in the area of casting out demons i can say and this will probably get me in trouble i'm gonna say it i've probably done greater works than jesus in this area why he did it for three and a half years i've done it for 25 years i'm not saying i'm greater than jesus or anything like that i'm saying this is what his verse says jesus we have recorded that he only raised a few people from the dead there are ministries that that came along like smith wigglesworth and some others like david hogan's ministry down in the jungles of mexico they've raised hundreds of people they said it was it's documented that smith wigglesworth raised 20 something people from the dead
you see what i'm saying there are people who had healing ministries that didn't last for three and a half years they lasted for 30 years 40 years you see what i'm saying that's what jesus was talking about greater works really just more more of what you're going to do more of what i did you're going to have more time amen now when it says here he that what these signs shall follow them that believe remember you think i forgot but what you know what i say to the jehovah witnesses and this is what i'll say the baptist next time you get invited to a baptist church a methodist church one of the churches you know that don't have anything to do with casting out demons or healing the sick or speaking in tongues or rebuking the devil next time somebody invites you say well let me ask something get your bible i want to ask you a question and have them turn to mark 16 15-20 and read that to them and then ask them this question it's what i asked the job of a witness i said do these things happen in your church they look at me and go no i said well they do in mine so why would i want to go to yours why why would i want to go backwards why would i want to live an unbelief why would i want to live in powerlessness why would i not want to be part of setting people free amen see i rejoice that marlene set free i rejoice that patrick set free i rejoice in seeing people set free from stuff you know what i'm saying how many of you you know before you went through deliverance and got those demons cast out of you were struggling with stuff you were struggling with stuff and you were bound up and you were messed up and you were tormented and guess what somebody came along and shared the truth with you that in jesus name you're supposed to cast those demons out and then somebody prayed with you and cast them out your life got better you can't counsel a demon out of somebody you can't medicate a demon out of somebody you got to cast it out in jesus name amen this is and here this is what blows my mind this is one of the most important ministries jesus spent a great portion of his time doing it most pastors today have never cast a demon out of anyone most church members today have never even seen their pastor cast the demon out of anybody and probably most of them never will because they don't believe the bible it's just that simple now go back to mark chapter one y'all don't mind me getting strong do you and please and let it be for the record i love baptist folks i love them
i was baptist at one time but it doesn't matter what you are if you're wrong i'm not trying to offend somebody on purpose but if you're wrong you're wrong i don't care what label you put on yourself there's a lot of pentecostals that are wrong about this they don't even know what they're doing right there's a lot of them wrong all right but i'm just today just laying this foundation if jesus spent so much time doing this what in the world are we doing and and and can i say this just straight up in the beginning do we not read these signs shall follow them that believe right did it say just the pastors who believe did it say just the apostles or prophets who believe did it say just the evangelists who believe did it say just the deacons or elders that believe no see i believe firmly that every christian who is born again and is walking with jesus in a right relationship has the power and the authority from god to cast out demons and should be doing it it's not just pastor dean's job if pastor dean's only one around here does it pastor dean is going to go to heaven early and i know this from doing too many in the past and i'm feeling pretty ragged right now right so everybody ought to be doing this this is what y'all don't get i was a 19 year old newly dedicated newly baptized in the holy ghost believer and i led a girl to jesus led this young lady to jesus she told me she had been a witch led her to jesus what do you do after you lead somebody to jesus they're born again they get on fire for god for a little while and then you hear out of a teenage girl a growling male voice screaming at you my name is lija well you don't really ask a lot of theological questions at that moment you just better cast it out and it didn't bother me that she was already a christian right the issue was she had a demon you sadducees and pharisees that sit up in these ivory towers you call first so-and-so and church or whatever and y'all want to debate theology guess what no time to debate theology no time to debate theology when a 15
year old girl in my youth group when i was a youth pastor comes in screams runs out of the service demons scream through her she runs out of the service the the youth come in and get me and say you need to come in here and take a look at jamie something's going on with her i go in there she's curled up in the corner hissing and growling like a like a cat and then i look into her eyes with youth all around me looking to her eyes and they look like cat's eyes well at that moment it's not time for a theological debate this young girl who was a christian went out and played with a ouija board over the weekend with her friends and guess what the demons came in and took over and were talking through her and a couple of big guys were trying to hold on to her before i got in there and they she was throwing them around like they weren't nothing oh you see what i'm saying but i just told you a couple of extreme situations but here's the thing there's so many christians that walk around who never you never hear the growling voice out of them their eyes never turn into cat's eyes but they're just as messed up and bound up on the inside as anybody else amen let me show you something about that this is why i want to say it's important to set the captives free go with me to the gospel of john as you're turning there i'm going to give you a little statistic 25 years of casting demons out of people 99.9 percent of them have been born again christians every demonic manifestation that you could name from people throwing up to being thrown across the room to growling spitting hissing screeching convulsing every one of them have been born again christians except for maybe two or three see this is why we don't get demons out of people and y'all know this already and i'm i'm not going to cover this all day but there's something i want you to see here this is a remember the bible reveals things to us john chapter 11 anybody that knows the bible here i don't know what this is a story of right this is the story of lazarus jesus's friend right matter of fact jesus is probably his
closest friends and believers that were the most full of faith and his friends was lazarus and his two sisters mary and martha okay jesus frequently when he was near nearby he would stop in their town of bethany and he would eat with them and he would stay with them i mean these are people that was here his dearest and closest friends and disciples okay now we everyone knows the story that jesus is off ministering somewhere else and he gets word that lazarus is sick now jesus loved lazarus and mary and martha the bible was very clear he loved them dearly they were some of his closest friends and closest disciples and yet it says jesus waited two days delayed i love this i mean this story you could preach on for a while right sometimes jesus delays we don't know why he doesn't always answer immediately he doesn't run he doesn't panic when we're in trouble he's got it under control right but anyway what happens we know that lazarus dies and by the time jesus gets there he's been in the grave for four days and they even said by now lord he is stinking decaying all right let's let's pick up the story then verse 18 it says now bethany the town was nigh unto jerusalem about 15 furlongs and many of the jews came to martha and mary to comfort them concerning their brother then martha as soon as she heard that jesus was coming went and met him but mary sat still in the house and then said martha unto jesus lord if you had been here my brother had not died but i know even now whatsoever you will ask of god god will give it thee and jesus saith unto him your brother or thy brother shall rise again and martha say i know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day and jesus said unto her i am the resurrection and the life he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die believeth thou this she said yea lord i believe that you are the christ the son of god which should come into the world they were totally in faith okay but they were struggling with this death of their brother now let's go on down to verse 32 i guess then when mary was come where jesus was and saw him she fell down his feet say lord if my brother had if you had been here rather my brother had not died and jesus therefore saw her weeping and the jews also weeping which came with her and he groaned in the spirit and was troubled and said where have you laid him and they they said unto him lord come and see and jesus wept then said the jews
behold how he loved him and some said could not this man which opened the eyes of the blind and caused that even this man should not have died and you know there's always critics around all right well look what he says that jesus therefore again groaning in himself coming to the grave and it was a cave and a stone laid upon it and jesus said take ye away the stone and martha the sister of of him that was dead said unto him lord by this time he stinketh for he hath been dead four days and jesus said unto her said i not unto thee that if you would believe you should have see the glory of god then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid and jesus lifted up his eyes and said father i thank thee that thou has heard me and i knew that you always that you hear me always but because of the people which stand by i said it that they may believe that you have sent me and when he had thus spoken he cried with a loud voice lazarus come forth and he that was dead came forth bound hand and foot with grave clothes and his face was bound with a napkin and jesus saith unto him loose him and let him go now i want to stop right there because i want you to see something in this story it's very interesting but lazarus was i believe a believer but we don't even have to make this point or not i believe he was saved already he was a believer he had faith in jesus as the christ the son of the living god i believe he had saving faith but there'll be people that argue that man but the point i want to make here is this even if you don't believe that what is the picture we get here lazarus died he was in the tomb for four days they had him wrapped in grave clothes that means he was wrapped up like a mummy even around his face and he was wrapped up in these now if you know jewish law jewish customs the law of the old testament was that if you even touched a dead body or anything that had been contact with a dead body it was considered unclean so the the very fact that that these grave clothes that these cloths wrapped around lazarus were wrapped around a dead body someone had been dead for four days these cloths represent uncleanness they would have been unclean to the jews if you would have touched them if the jews would have touched one of those things it says they would have been unclean for seven days minimum just from touching them okay that means they couldn't go into the synagogue they couldn't go into the temple they had to they had to wait until that that seven days of purification and cleansing right just one of god's laws you like it not like it that's the way it is right that's what he said but here's the story jesus comes up to this dead man's tomb roll the stone away he calls him forth and he raises him back to life now this is a picture to me even if you don't want to say you know he was already saved but this is a picture to me of where the bible says in
ephesians 2 that we were dead in trespasses and sins right but what happens when we get saved the bible says that we get cleansed from our sin and literally we get regenerated our spirit man and our soul are regenerated we come back to life we are raised to spiritual life that's what the book of romans talked about in romans 6 about baptism we're buried with him in baptism when we come up we're raised in what the newness of life right so the picture of the new birth is a resurrection right now here is something beautiful we see this jesus comes on the scene and so you know even our calvinist brothers would agree with this is that we say you know what we can't save ourselves god draws us right god came on the scene jesus came on the scene his holy spirit moved he called lazarus forth he came up out of the grave alive god did a supernatural work we could say he was born again he was made alive he was resurrected he was brought to new life yet after he was raised after he was saved he was still standing there alive in jesus alive through the power of jesus but still bound by those grave clothes still wrapped up by something unclean here's what's interesting i love this jesus didn't walk up and start unloosing him jesus pointed to the people nearby and said you loose him and let him go oh hallelujah see this is a picture folks so we've got a lot of christians out there they're born again they've been raised to new life they've been saved their spirit man has been resurrected to life they've been called up out of the tomb by the power of jesus they are saved but they're still wrapped up bound up tied up in those demonic unclean grave clothes of death from their former life see remember he was still wrapped up by something from his life his previous life when he was in the tomb among the dead well this is so many christians y'all now let me ask you something if he doesn't get unwrapped from those grave clothes where he can start living a normal life and eat normally and drink
normally and go to the bathroom and all those things if he stays in those grave clothes for any amount of time and doesn't eat and doesn't drink and doesn't you know take a bath what happens to him he will eventually die again you hear me this is why so many christians are falling away why so many christians are living in sin it's because they're still wrapped up tied up tangled up by these demon these demons we'll call grave clothes okay and jesus has given authority and that's what the authority binding and loosing is all about what in the world was that binding and loosing because you see what we bind or take authority of demons and we loose people you see that with what jesus did with the woman who had the spirit of infirmity in luke so i want you to see there's just a little picture now there'll be people that'll argue with me but we're going to cover that more but i hadn't taught about that about lazarus since we've covered some of these issues and it's just a beautiful picture now that we know that let's go back and we're going to finish up here with luke chapter 4. luke chapter 4. i know we were gonna go back to mark one but i guess we're running out of time here luke chapter 4 so here's the ministry of jesus and so here's what we're supposed to do right let's look what jesus said luke 4 verse 16. this is after jesus came out of the wilderness and the power of the holy spirit he went to nazareth verse 16 and he came to nazareth where he had been brought up and as his custom was he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up for to read and it was delivered unto him the book of the prophet isaiah and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written the spirit of the lord is upon me because we could all say this look if you're saved and filled with the holy spirit the spirit of the lord is upon you because he wants you to do something the spirit of the lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and the recovering of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are bruised and to preach the acceptable year of the lord now jesus preached this and i want you to look at it first he said to preach
deliverance to the captives those of you who are going to try to begin to minister to people who need deliverance you got to first be able to preach it to them through the word their faith has to be in the bible you can't just say to somebody oh you need deliverance and they don't even compre most of them don't even know what you're talking about right you've got to explain this he said so you got to preach it first and why do we have to preach it first why do we have to explain it first because the bible says in romans 10 verse 17 that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of god people cannot have faith for something that they have not heard preached or taught what does he say how can they hear without a preacher somebody's got to preach it listen most people are just ignorant i know i've been given the denominational world a hard time but most people just don't know so that's why we got to preach it to them this is what you've got to equip yourself to do you've got to be able to preach it and teach it and explain it to them because you're going to run into people they are messed up there are people that we i would love to sit down and and pray with them and get the demons out of them and get them set free get those grave clothes off of them but they have no concept of it they don't believe it they don't understand it and they wouldn't be able to stand if you did it right so you've got to be able to preach it you've got to be able to teach it interesting that jesus put a difference between preaching the gospel he said you're going to preach the gospel to the poor and preach deliverance to the captives it's two different messages preaching the gospel of salvation how to get saved repenting of your sins believing in jesus christ that he died and rose again getting forgiveness by confessing your sins and turning away from them that's preach that's the gospel to get them saved but after that notice he said it after he said that preach the gospel to the poor and then what preach deliverance to the captives so the church world that doesn't do this that if they only preach the gospel which most of them don't even do that right but if they only preach the gospel and get people saved guess what they're not setting the captives free and let me just give you this i shared this with paul one day the word captives here in the greek check me out look it up if you want to the definition of this word captives in the greek means a prisoner of war now let me ask you something if you're already in the devil's camp if you're unsaved if you're serving the devil if you're dead in trespasses and sins and you've never been saved would you be considered a prisoner of
war no if we have a prisoner of war he's from the other side right if the devil has a prisoner of war it's someone that's on our side hint hint right prisoner of war meaning they're not supposed to be there right there are christians out there who are prisoners of war and it's our job to preach deliverance to the captives and then look what he says after he says preach deliverance to the captive and i love this recovering of sight to the blind many people think this is this is only literal about causing the blind to see no it can mean both can you preach deliverance to the captives to do what to get their eyes open to the truth of the word of god the truth of what they where they stand i love that that that poem of that girl i'm not going to say what the name of it is but the poem of that black girl and that black church but one of the things she said about one one of the ladies who who helped run the underground railroad was that she freed a thousand slaves but she could have freed a thousand more if she could only convince them if they only believed that they were slaves most people just think it's normal life to not be able to live a holy life they think it's normal that's why they make up false doctrines like you got a sin every day no you don't they make up these doctrines so they so that they can be okay with being bound by pornography being bound by adultery being bound by homosexuality listen we got a lot of secret homosexuals in the christian community i mean christians who live in homosexuality secretly because they don't know even know how to be free how to get free they want as many of them want to be free but they've only received the gospel and they're wondering why they're not free and they just come up with with ideas like well you know i know god loves me and i'm eternally secure or or you know some form of calvinism and they they they feed themselves these things so that they can feel okay when they're miserable because yes they're a christian but they're so bound up from the the grave clothes of their sexual molestation they suffered in the past or their sexual sins that they opened the doors to all these demons and they're bound up by those demonic grave clothes and there's no christians setting them free very few matter of fact y'all know what i'm talking about and i've talked to some of them about it and then they got preachers that talk them out of it that talk them out of deliverance this is why you got to know how to preach it you got to know how to teach it you got
to know how to explain it and if you think i'm crazy i know i said we were only going to turn here go to go to isaiah 42. these are critical by the way to your test you may have a pop quiz on this at five o'clock isaiah 42 don't shout me down when i'm preaching good now mighty quiet out there in this pentecostal church sorry i'm a little excited this morning i won't go into the whole read the whole chapter because it takes a little bit but i want you to see this chapter is quoted in matthew chapter 12 when about jesus's deliverance ministry and and the whole debate and we may get to that at five o'clock but the whole debate about is jesus casting out demons by beals above and that's what he talks about first buying the strong man and he will spoil his house and he was having a little fuss with the pharisees over the deliverance issue right this verse is quoted in matthew 12. so the context of isaiah 42 is primarily the ministry of jesus and primarily deliverance and this is what he said and this this pertains to us today and boy are we ever there but let's just see he talks about verse one he says behold my servant whom i uphold mine elect and whom my soul delights i have put my spirit upon him and he shall bring forth judgment to the gentiles says he shall not cry nor lift up nor cause his voice to be heard in the street a bruised reed shall he not break as smoking flax he shall not quench and then it just goes on to talk about great light springing up among the gentiles in verse six and look at verse seven he says he this servant speak this is a prophecy of the messiah jesus coming he will open the blind eyes and bring prisoners out from the prison house and then that sit in darkness from the prison house so we see he's talking about deliverance right jesus ministry coming and healing and getting the prisoners out of the prison house right everybody nod at me give me a little half-hand pentecostal wave if you got it all right now let's go on down in the same chapter he's still talking about that go down to verse 21 still talking about jesus when he comes in his ministry it says the lord jehovah is well pleased for his righteousness sake meaning what the only who's the only righteous that can please god the righteousness of jesus right so he said he is well pleased for his righteousness sake he will magnify the law and make it honorable but look what he says here but this people what the people that jesus has come to minister to this people he said this is a people robbed and spoiled they are all of them y'all underline this they are all of them snared in holes and
they are hid in prison houses they are left for a prey and none delivers them none delivereth they are for a spoil and none saith restore who among you will give ear to this who will hearken and hear for the time to come boy here is jesus came back in verse seven and eight to open the blind eyes to bring out the prisoners from the prison he said the lord said he will magnify the law he will make it honorable but this people are robbed and spoiled they are all of them snared in holes all of them are hid in prison houses y'all want to know why i believe everyone needs deliverance to some degree is because of this verse this people they're robbed they're spoiled they're hidden prison houses and nobody says deliver them and then he asked the question who is going to listen who is going to hearken and hear this important aspect of the kingdom of god and help get these people out of these prison houses listen nancy had a dream a while back that this church was like a navy seal team like a little special forces team okay let me tell you why that's interesting because it's usually not an entire division of soldiers sent in to deliver some captives some people that are taken hostage it's usually a secret strike force that sneak in under the radar and start taking out the enemy and start leading people out of these prison houses quietly secretly covertly till you finally hear about it later you get enough listen you get enough people set free we start getting enough people set free it'll turn this city upside down i mean marlene's already stirring up the whole baptist crowd with her deliverance story can you imagine a few more let's go get some prisoners of war free amen that's some people messed up messed up mixed up hurt depressed beat up can't turn off the porn can't get out of the sexual sin can't get out of the homosexuality can't get out of the depression
they're christians christians i know one guy that i ministered to was was going to commit suicide because he couldn't get free he was a born-again former baptist minister who had been molested when he was five years old stood strong for jesus for many years preached the gospel in his church he said the power of god would come on him when he preached many people get saved he ended up getting caught finally falling and getting caught in a homosexual affair with his youth pastor of course he got thrown out of his church i met him many years later long story behind that but bottom line he told me i've done everything i know and i cannot get free and i looked him straight in the face god sent me 700 miles to texas to find this man and i looked him straight in the face i said you have demons that's why you can't get free he goes it and he knew it went against his theology it went against his beliefs but he said i just know what you're saying is right and i reached over and laid hands on his head and i bound the demons of homosexuality and molestation and perversion and commanded them to come out of him and he got up and ran to the bathroom and threw his guts up several times and come back and we prayed three or four more times there that day and every time he would go and throw his guts up but the demons were leaving him left and right a few days later he went to uh he finally went to church he wasn't able to worship he wasn't able to pray he wasn't able to read his bible he was miserable he told me he tried to many times he thought about driving his car off the road into a tree to kill himself because he was so miserable that he could not live the christian life he wanted to but he could not do it as a prisoner of war he'd rather commit suicide than go through the torment any longer and that's why god sent me 700 miles to find him because he couldn't find anybody that would tell him the truth but he got set free he was also a medical doctor he got set free and i heard about him years later doing seminars about getting people getting free from demons and from homosexuality it was it was kind of funny because i sat down to counsel another guy and i told him this story and he goes i think i know you're talking about amen that man after he got delivered from those demons is one of the happiest people i'd ever seen in my life a concern a conservative educated baptist former baptist preacher and
medical doctor jumping up and down in church like a crazy pentecostal but he got free amen so let's pray this morning father in heaven we thank you lord for your word that your word is truth we ask you god to let us not just hear it god but absorb it and be able god to give it back and share it and preach it and teach it to other people lord we have so many captives that need to be set free lord we ask you to bless this first session in our series on dealing with demons and casting out devils and setting captives free but we don't care if the pharisees and the sadducees want to criticize us lord we know people will be set free in the mighty name of jesus through the mighty power and authority of jesus lord we thank you for the truth and we ask you lord god to just use us in a mighty way in jesus name amen
